00:00The Cannes Film Festival has officially banned voluminous outfits and nudity on the red carpet.
00:05Ahead of the start of the 2025 edition, the festival has issued an updated red carpet dress
00:10code that effectively bans full nudity and quote voluminous ensembles. According to the festival
00:15on its official charter, nudity is now officially prohibited on the red carpet as well as in any
00:20other area of the festival for decency reasons. And voluminous outfits, in particular those with
00:25a large train that hinder the proper flow of traffic of people and complicate seating in the
00:29theater are not permitted. The festival's charter states, the festival welcoming teams will be
00:33obligated to prohibit red carpet access to anyone not respecting these rules. The Hollywood reporter
00:38reached out to the Cannes press office for additional comment and a festival rep confirms that the
00:43charter was just updated to reflect quote certain rules that have long been in effect. According to
00:47the Cannes rep, the goal of the update is quote not to regulate a tire per se but to prohibit full
00:52nudity on the red carpet in accordance with the institutional framework of the festival as well
00:57as French law. Many stars have worn sheer dresses at Cannes in recent years, but in 2022 a topless
01:02woman was escorted off the red carpet after she removed her dress in a pro-Ukraine protest.
01:07It's not immediately clear if there was one specific instance that led officials to update the
01:11charter. The update to the Cannes rules begs two questions. How strictly will the dress code be
01:15enforced and will A-list stars and or models be booted for flouting the rules? The 2025 Cannes Film
01:21Festival runs May 13th to May 24th. For more on this story, go to THR.com. This is the Hollywood Reporter News.
