Daniel Wales reports on England Women Head Coach Sarina Wiegman, as the Lionesses’ boss made clear that there is no current update on her contract situation at the FA, which runs out in 2027. Wiegman, who has guided England to two European Championship victories and a World Cup final added that she is still very much enjoying her role though.
00:38Sometimes it's crosses conversations where we're, like, not really in content.
00:44But I'm always like, you know, 27 is coming.
00:48We have, I'm still really enjoying the job.
00:50I think the team is still enjoying that I'm around.
00:52I think that's really, really important too.
00:55And let's see what the future will bring.
00:57You seem very relaxed about it.
00:58I'm very relaxed about it, yeah.
01:00I don't look forward.
01:02Like, I don't plan, maybe that looks like it, I don't plan my career a lot.
01:07I just know what I really enjoy.
01:09And I always want things to be fit for my side and the other side.
01:13And then we'll see what comes on my path.
01:16Ahead of the Lionesses' next game against Ghana, Wiegmann confirmed one injury update for her squad.
01:23No, not everyone's available.
01:27Unfortunately, Grace Fisk picked up a small injury, so she will not be available for tomorrow.
01:33Losing Wiegmann would be a bitter blow for England and the FA, but her legacy here would be massive, given what she has worn with the Lionesses, making the role of whoever would come in after her an incredibly huge task.
01:45Of course, Wiegmann and the FA may well extend her current deal beyond 2027, which at present, at least, would be in the interests of both parties.
01:55But much will likely depend on how England perform at the next World Cup.
02:00Given what they have already achieved, nothing less than the semi-finals or even the final would likely be the minimum expectation.
02:06That is for the future though, and for now, England are focusing on their next match, a friendly at St Mary's against Ghana.
