00:00Britney Spears is responding to the incident Wednesday night involving San Antonio Spurs player Victor Wembenyama
00:06following reports that she was slapped by his security team after approaching the player.
00:12Spears posted a response to her Instagram stories confirming the incident and detailing her experience.
00:19I recognized an athlete in my hotel lobby as I was heading to dinner.
00:23I later went to a restaurant at a different hotel and saw him again.
00:26I decided to approach him and congratulate him on his success.
00:30It was really loud, so I tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention.
00:33I'm aware of the player's statement where he mentioned I grabbed him from behind, but I simply tapped him on the shoulder.
00:39His security then backhanded me in the face without looking back in front of a crowd.
00:44Spears described the incident as embarrassing, but said it was important to speak out, quote,
00:48to urge people in the public eye to set an example and treat all people with respect.
00:53She also shared that she had yet to receive a public apology,
00:56but thanked the Las Vegas Police Department and their detectives for their assistance.
01:01I get swarmed by people all the time.
01:03In fact, that night I was run by a group of at least 20 fans.
01:07My security team didn't hit any of them.
01:09Following the incident, the NBA player spoke to press saying the singer, quote,
01:13grabbed him from behind, not on my shoulder.
01:16And as far as he knew, security pushed the individual away.
01:19I don't know with how much force, though, but security pushed her away.
01:24He also shared that he did not know it was Spears who had been reaching out to him.
