00:00Luigi Mangione is back in court today for a hearing that could make or break his state case.
00:05Remember, there are three different cases against him. This is one of the murder cases,
00:10and it's going to be the first one that's going to trial. A Manhattan judge will hear arguments
00:14around Luigi's claim that his rights were violated when police officers searched his
00:18backpack without a warrant after arresting him at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
00:23Today's hearing will also look into whether or not he was questioned by police before
00:27being read his Miranda rights. If the judge agrees with the defense, it would pretty much destroy the
00:34prosecution's case. The contents of that backpack are the strongest evidence that they have at
00:41putting the alleged killer behind bars. The 3D printed pistol used to murder United Healthcare
00:47CEO Brian Thompson, the notebook explaining the motive, and the fake ID Mangione is said to have
00:53used to check into a New York City hostel when the crime was committed. Today's hearing will include
00:58an unusually high number of witnesses called to testify, a whopping 28 of them, and prosecutors
01:06also intend to play hours of body cam footage as part of the proceedings.
