00:00El Camino, a Breaking Bad movie hit Netflix over the weekend, and if you watched, you know that
00:11spoiler alert, Bryan Cranston makes a surprise cameo during a flashback scene in the film about
00:16Jesse Pinkman. Here's how the producers kept it top secret. During late 2018, the producers of
00:21El Camino had just 36 hours with Cranston. At the time, Cranston was appearing in eight
00:26performances a week of Network on Broadway, with Mondays Off. Their plan was to fly him out
00:30Sunday night after his show, shoot all day Monday and in the morning on Tuesday, and rap just in time
00:36to get him back to New York for his Tuesday night performance. The production crew snuck Cranston
00:40into Albuquerque on a loaned private jet. But because of his limited time, they couldn't take
00:44him to a remote spot and had to shoot at a location in the middle of a busy intersection right in town.
00:50While filming at the diner, they blocked the set from view using screens and vehicles.
00:56Another hiccup involved Cranston having a full head of hair for his Broadway show in contrast to the
01:05signature shaved skull of Walter White. The production team made a special bald cap, but given
01:10that his hair was stuffed under it, it didn't create the signature silhouette White became
01:13known for. The crew fixed the problem digitally, and as a result, nearly every shot in the diner
01:18scene is a visual effects shot. However, Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan was able to achieve his
01:23key goal of keeping the existence of the movie and the legend of Walter White's return to his
01:27hometown a secret. For more on El Camino, head to THR.com. Until next time, for The Hollywood
