Nothing short of public service, Berhampur Police have transformed their reception area into a reading zone - creating Odisha’s first library inside a police headquarters.

00:35inspiring biographies science and sports books wildlife collections and even spiritual texts

00:41like the ramayana mahabharata and the four vedas this unique idea comes from a simple question

00:50why should waiting time be vested when it can become learning time people coming here for various work

00:57citizens officials and even police staff can now spend their waiting period reading something

01:02meaningful we felt that visitors spend a lot of time waiting at the sp office

01:11so with utkal free library we decided to provide books that can enrich them during that time

01:18the spark for this initiative came from the utkal community library

01:22founder biswajit mishra shared how he once saw people sitting idly in the reception some glued to

01:29the mobile screens while others talking loudly or simply staring around that movement he says made

01:35him think of bringing books into the space we proposed keeping books here so people could use their time

01:43productively the sp immediately supported the idea the books are changed every 10 to 15 days from then

01:52on the project took shape quickly shelves were built books were selected and the waiting launch quietly

01:58transformed into a small reading zone and the response overwhelmingly positive with readers appreciating

02:05the initiative plans are already being considered to expand the model to other major offices in the district
