"He's been my friend, and I really feel for the woman. I identify with all the women in these situations. Even if it's my friend, I don't go, 'Oh, but he's a good guy.' I think, 'What would it feel like to have been her?'" Schumer said.

00:00Amy Schumer opened up about her friend Aziz Ansari's recent sexual misconduct
00:04allegation for the Katie Couric podcast on Thursday, where she also addressed the
00:08MeToo movement. Earlier last month, an unnamed woman, identified only as a 23-year-old
00:13photographer based in Brooklyn, alleged that Ansari attempted to coerce her into
00:18sex without her consent while at his home. The woman later texted him to express how
00:22uneasy his behavior made her feel, and he apologized for misreading the situation.
00:27Ansari addressed the allegation, explaining that he took her words to heart and took
00:31the time to respond privately with her. The allegation, made in an article on the
00:35website Babe.net, has become controversial with some women, including journalist
00:39Ashley Banfield, who questioned whether what happened could indeed be considered
00:43sexual misconduct. Schumer told Couric this about the claims against the master of
00:48Nunstar.
00:48I don't think anyone wants to see Aziz's career ruined or his life ruined or anything
00:52like that, but that's where people's minds go. They go, does he deserve this? And
00:56it's really not about that. She added, I think it's about expressing and showing
01:00women that that behavior is not okay. And not only can you leave, but you need to
01:04leave, because then the women who come after you, you're leaving a mark for them
01:08too. Schumer went on to say, he's been my friend, and I really feel for the woman.
01:12I identify with all the women in these situations. I kind of, my mind doesn't go
01:16right, even if it's my friend. I don't go, oh, but he's a good guy. I think, what would
01:21it feel like to have been her? During the interview, Schumer also addressed the
01:24Me Too movement, explaining the importance for women to stand up to anything that makes
01:28them uncomfortable. She said,
01:30If you have a doctor that makes you uncomfortable, or you get a massage, or you have a date with
01:34someone and they coerce you in a situation like the Aziz one, I don't think there's any
01:38sort of criminal charge, but I think that it's good for everybody to learn that that
01:42behavior's not acceptable. It's not a crime, but it's not cool. And it can still really
01:47mess with a woman. The actress, who admitted to Couric that she was raped when she was a teenager,
01:51explained that every woman has experienced some form of harassment and abuse. She said,
01:56But there are so many other kinds of sexual misconduct. We've all, every woman I know,
02:01every woman in this room, we've all had these experiences.
02:04And I think in some ways, this current climate, it brings these things up and you go, God,
02:10none of that was okay.
