The Hollywood Reporter style consultant Andrew Weitz offers the 'Westworld' actor five looks to choose from.
Transcript
00:00I'm Andrew Weitz, and we work with men and women who work in fields where their professional image has a direct impact on their success.
00:09Today we're meeting first-time Emmy nominee Jimmy Simpson from the mega-hit HBO series, Westworld.
00:15We are going to take his red carpet game to a whole other level.
00:22The first step, a consultation with Jimmy to get a sense of his personal style.
00:26Jimmy, what's up, my man?
00:29Good thing, now that I'm hugging you.
00:31Yeah.
00:32It's been a bit.
00:33Last time I hung out with you really was 2013.
00:36You were working at my agency.
00:38Yeah.
00:39And you had this sparkle in your eye about style.
00:43That was one of my defining moments.
00:46Still being an agent, I said to myself, I'm meant to do this.
00:51We're going to talk a little bit about the red carpet Emmys.
00:54I would say in general, classic lines and tailoring.
00:59I have a hard time buying slacks because everything, there's like this towards the bottom.
01:03Taper.
01:04Taper, thank you.
01:05Yeah.
01:06It's not for me.
01:07I see you the same way you do, but I also see you busting out into something very cool, very different.
01:16We are going to have a selection and we're going to try on some things.
01:20Oh my God.
01:21And let's just have fun with it.
01:22Thank you, man.
01:23There's a lot more.
01:24There's a lot more to do.
01:25Cut!
01:27See you in a week.
01:28I can't wait.
01:29We now have a good idea of Jimmy's style, so let's go to Beverly Hills and see what we
01:33can find.
01:34This is great.
01:35I love this.
01:36And then you can play with bow ties.
01:37Definitely that.
01:38This is really nice.
01:39I want to have that as an option.
01:40And this too.
01:41And this three.
01:42Why not?
01:43Right?
01:44After a great day of prep, I selected several black tie options for Jimmy to try on.
01:59Andrew.
02:00Jimmy.
02:01How are you feeling?
02:02I feel really good.
02:03I feel excited.
02:04Yeah?
02:05To have your skill set draped over me.
02:07What we're going to do is I'm going to show you some of the pieces that I showed you on
02:11the iPad during the consultation.
02:12You know, check out.
02:13See how it feels.
02:14And I'm going to show you other options.
02:15Let's have fun.
02:16And that's as sharp as a razor blade what you're wearing right up there.
02:18Please.
02:19Please.
02:20Don't touch it.
02:21Don't touch it.
02:22Don't cover it.
02:23I wouldn't touch it.
02:24Thank you very much.
02:25Thank you very much.
02:27See me after.
02:28I'll help you.
02:29Okay.
02:30Should we start?
02:31The first look is a Brioni Jacquard dinner jacket, which I paired with a black tuxedo
02:37pant, patent leather shoes, and a wingtip tuxedo shirt with no bow tie.
02:44The second look is a double-breasted chocolate brown velvet smoking jacket from Brunello Cuccinelli.
02:50We paired that with a black pant, tuxedo slippers, and a black satin bow tie to complement the
02:56lapels.
02:57The first two looks are great options, but Jimmy and I decided on the third look as the
03:03winner.
03:04All right.
03:05How do you feel?
03:06I feel ready.
03:07Try this jacket.
03:08Okay.
03:09I want to make sure that we are showing some cuff.
03:11The pant we want tailored.
03:14A hand-tie bow tie is the way to go.
03:16Come on.
03:17I'm sure it is, but I'm from rural New Jersey.
03:20That's okay.
03:21I'm going to teach you, but I'm not going to do it right now.
03:23What I want to do is just kind of give you the look.
03:25This is a pre-tie from Brioni.
03:28I will probably want a velvet bow tie to match the lapels.
03:33Now, for shoes, I'm going to go with these.
03:36They're from Todd's.
03:37Okay?
03:38Tassel, velvet, leather.
03:42Pocket square could be a nice touch.
03:44We could go this way and just...
03:46I don't even know what you just did.
03:47Look, look, look, look.
03:48Look at this shit.
03:49What?
03:50Gone.
03:51Gone.
03:52It's in there.
03:53You have a little bit of a poof.
03:55Or we do a flat look, but slightly messy.
03:58I've made my own pocket squares out of socks.
04:03So then, go ahead and button this jacket.
04:05You can do a no-show sock.
04:07So when we put on the shoe, there's ankle showings.
04:10That's not a look that's close to my heart, but I would do it if that was essential.
04:14Well, for this look, it's not essential.
04:16I feel like a man's place to shine is often in his socks.
04:21You would, but that was eight years ago.
04:24We're doing a little something different now.
04:25You can't.
04:26Yeah.
04:27Am I eight years behind?
04:28Welcome.
04:29I'm going to finish this look off.
04:30Okay.
04:31You wear eyewear.
04:32I think for this, a nice black frame.
04:36This is really beautiful.
04:37This is great.
04:39I love this look.
04:40Once we tailor it up, this is what you're going to look.
04:43I think this is the look, Andrew.
04:44Well done.
04:45What?
04:46You're red carpet ready, my friend.
04:47That's me up there?
04:48Yeah.
04:49You're looking so, so sharp.
04:50I love it.
04:51I have such a smile on my face.
04:52Let's crush it.
04:53And good luck.
04:55Jimmy and I love the Giorgio Armani charcoal tuxedo with black velvet lapels.
05:00Paired with a velvet and leather tassel loafer from Todd's.
05:04Have a good one.
