Patrick Shanley breaks down 'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom' and gives insight on what adventures may be in store for the next film.

00:00Hello friends, Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom is finally out, and so it's time to speculate
00:04about where the franchise will go next.
00:06This week on Heat Vision Breakdown, we look forward to everything that could happen in
00:09the future of the Jurassic franchise.
00:11Be warned, this video contains spoilers.
00:13Oh no, it's a Spoilersaurus Rex!
00:20Fallen Kingdom builds upon an idea introduced in 2015's Jurassic World, that dinosaurs could
00:25be weaponized.
00:26Thanks Chris Pratt, you just had to get all chummy with raptors, didn't you?
00:29The film sees shady characters from all over the world bidding on dangerous dinos, and
00:33while the animals don't ultimately end up in the hands of said shady characters, unless
00:37they somehow took them away before all hell broke loose at that auction, they do end up
00:40free to roam the world.
00:42As Jeff Goldbloom's Ian Malcolm says in the final moments of the film, the Earth truly
00:46has become Jurassic World, that's the title of the movie, a world where dinosaurs and
00:50humans will now be forced to interact, or at least that northern California neighborhood
00:54Blue seems ready to make her new home.
00:55A post-credits scene also sees pterodactyls flying around a recreation of Eiffel Tower
01:00on the Las Vegas Strip, so it's clear some of the swimming and flying dinosaurs from the
01:03island made it to other parts of the world as well.
01:05And then after being stuck on an exploding volcanic island, they're looking to lounge
01:08by the pool at the Bellagio and taking a Cirque de Salatio.
01:10Regardless, Fallen Kingdom's ending is a big step forward for the franchise, so the logical
01:16question is, what's next?
01:18Jurassic World helmer Colin Trevorrow, who wrote Fallen Kingdom with writing partner Derek
01:22Connelly, will return to the director's chair for the third installment, Hitting Theaters
01:25June 11, 2021.
01:27This time around, the franchise is getting a female perspective, with Pacific Rim Uprising
01:31screenwriter Emily Carmichael penning the script with Trevorrow, a much-needed addition
01:35considering the hoopla raised by Claire's high heels in the original film.
01:38Dr. Malcolm's worrying designation of a new Jurassic World shouldn't be taken literally.
01:42The Earth is not about to be overrun by dinosaurs, considering only about a dozen of the dinosaurs
01:46actually escaped, all of them different species and all of them female, so they likely aren't
01:50going to be mating to produce more dinosaurs that will eventually overrun the world.
01:54Though for a franchise that has really leaned into the whole dinosaur hybridization angle,
01:58maybe the idea of a T-Rex and a Triceratops having a love child isn't that far-fetched.
02:01What would it look like?
02:04It seems more likely, however, that Jurassic World 3 will further explore the notion that Dr.
02:08Malcolm suggests.
02:09The war of the future will be fought with genetic weapons.
02:12Pandora's box has been opened, and the technologies that made dinosaur resurrection popular may
02:16spark an arms race that fundamentally changes the world.
02:19We also saw that it's not just dinosaurs that are being genetically engineered.
02:22As the character of Maisie is, brace yourself, a clone.
02:26Listen, if you have issues with genetically engineered humans being weaponized, I have some bad news
02:32for you about Captain America.
02:33Dr. Henry Wu, the scientist with a capital G god complex, played by BD Wong, escapes with
02:40untold amounts of knowledge, again, like he does in every single movie.
02:44And he will undoubtedly be using it to create more genetically enhanced dinosaurs like the
02:48Indominus Rex of the first Jurassic World and the Indoraptor of Fallen Kingdom.
02:52It's almost guaranteed a third hybrid dinosaur will be introduced in the next installment.
02:56My guess is they'll lean full tilt into product placement and just call it the Jimmy
02:59Buffett Margaritasaur.
03:00There's also an intriguing opportunity for Jurassic World to take a play out of the recent
03:04Planet of the Apes trilogy, in which the apes actually became the protagonist, not the humans.
03:09Who's the real animal?
03:10Fallen Kingdom establishes Blue as perhaps the most valuable living organism on the planet,
03:14save maybe BD Wong, who can create life as easily as most of us make microwave nachos,
03:19both because of her intelligence and groundbreaking ability to empathize.
03:22She could be exploited and forced to raise and lead an army of dinosaurs, but perhaps she
03:27could also be used to help usher in a society of peace-loving velociraptors, similar to
03:31how Andy Serkis' Caesar shows the apes their true potential.
03:35Or maybe she'll just partner with Chris Pratt and we'll get a buddy cop movie.
03:38Fallen Kingdom managed to make its audience empathize with dinosaurs in a way not seen since
03:41Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park made audiences tear up with the sick Triceratops in the original.
03:47Director J.A. Bayona explored Blue's adorable upbringing and her empathy, and also highlighted
03:51the pathos of what a second dinosaur extinction would mean with a shot of the final dinosaur
03:56waiting for its death on the dock as our hero sped away on the final boat off Island Nublar.
04:00Continuing to emphasize the unexpected humanity of dinosaurs would be a way to keep the third
04:04installment fresh.
04:05Goldbloom's Malcolm asked an unintentionally meta question at the end of Jurassic World
04:08Fallen Kingdom.
04:09How many times must we see what happens when humans play God with dinosaurs?
04:13Indeed, after five movies, audiences may be asking themselves the same question.
04:17If there is one common theme in all the Jurassic films, it's that dinosaurs and humans do not
04:20get along, and also that being eaten is a really unpleasant way to go out.
04:26Fallen Kingdom showed hints of moving the story forward, something few other Jurassic titles
04:29have done.
04:30And the third installment, if it plays out on a more global scale, may have something new
04:34to say after all.
04:35Because in the words of Ian Malcolm, I sure hope you remember to wash your hands before
04:38you eat anything.
04:39Also, life finds a way.
04:41Words to look like.
04:43What do you want to see in Jurassic World 3?
04:45Do you want to see a buddy cop movie with Chris Pratt and Blue?
