Madelyn Cline Talks Surprising ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery' Ending and ‘Outer Banks’ Season 3

Madelyn Cline spoke with The Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet of the ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ premiere.

00:00What did you think when you first got the call for this?

00:02Oh, it wasn't a call.

00:04It was an email, and I stared at it for like a minute straight,

00:08and I was shitting my pants.

00:10I was so excited and so incredibly nervous,

00:15and I knew that I was going to fight with absolutely everything I had in me

00:19to try and at least just get a call back.

00:23I just took it step by step.

00:24I was like, okay, if I can get a call back,

00:26then maybe I can get a director session.

00:27You know, it was just, and, well, here we are.

00:32What was that first day on set like with this cast and shooting in Greece?

00:36It was absolutely, I mean, it was breathtaking.

00:41My call time was really, really early.

00:43I got on the little water taxi from Porto Halle to Spetsis,

00:52and so we got to see the sunrise from a water taxi,

00:56and I was actually in the taxi with Catherine,

01:00and I was so nervous because I'm such a big fan of hers,

01:04but I didn't know what to say, and I didn't know what to do with my hands.

01:08And we were walking, and we were just talking about what a grand,

01:11like beautiful place we got to shoot in,

01:13and it was only the second day of filming,

01:15and we had the next two and a half months ahead of us.

01:20And as soon as I got onto set and then we started playing,

01:23everything, all that fear kind of washed away.

01:26But I still, even, I still to this day kind of pinch myself a little bit.

01:30I got to have this experience.

01:32And I heard that you guys found out the killer and everything

01:35before you started shooting,

01:36which I know some directors kind of hold on to that.

01:38What did you think when you kind of first read that ending?

01:43I, well, I was really surprised

01:47because the whole time that I was reading it for the first time,

01:51for the script, I was trying to figure it out.

01:54I was trying to do the puzzle in my head while I was reading it,

01:58and I think that's what's so amazing about Ryan

02:01is that, like he says, watching it is a ride, not a puzzle.

02:06And it's an experience.

02:09And reading it for the first time, it was the same way.

02:14So I was incredibly surprised.

02:16And then I read it back a second time,

02:17and I was like, oh my God, it all makes so much sense now.

02:21And Outer Banks is coming.

02:23What can you say about season three?

02:25How does it kind of compare to the last two?

02:27Well, God, it's even higher stakes,

02:30more action, more adventure than the last time.

02:33I didn't think we were capable of achieving it,

02:36but we have.

02:38And even crazier locations

02:42and, you know, really, really wonderful,

02:46wonderful work from my co-stars.

02:48I'm really, really proud of them.

02:50And I'm really, really excited for everyone

02:52to watch this new season.

02:54Yeah.
