00:00page in which she says and i'm quoting the biggest insurance for women is to save your eggs because
00:06then you can choose when to get married when you want to have kids on your own terms but that
00:12statement now seems to not have gone down well with very many for various reasons doctors have
00:18slammed upasana saying that egg freezing process is a costly exercise and it cannot be untaken by
00:24most women zoho co-founder sridhar vembu has also countered upasana's claims advising youngsters
00:32to marry and produce children in their 20s upasana khanadella remember later has also gone on to
00:37clarify and say that egg freezing gives women control over marriage and also children
00:43because then you can choose when to get married when you want to have kids
00:52on your own terms when you are financially independent today i stand on my own feet
00:58i earn a living for myself i'm proudly financially independent this security made me strong and
01:06confident to make bold decisions in my life two things that work the best for you before you
01:12reach your 30s have your goals ready have your career path set and know how much you're going
01:18to earn at every different point in your life earn wealth wise health wise and relationship wise
01:26if you're clear about your vision goal and role in life you become unstoppable the biggest insurance
01:34for women is to save your eggs because then you can choose when to get married when you want to have
01:40kids on your own terms when you are financially independent today i stand on my own feet i earn a living
01:48for myself i'm proudly financially independent this security made me strong and confident to make bold
01:55decisions in my life two things that work the best for you before you reach your 30s have your goals ready
02:04have your career path set and know how much you're going to earn at every different point in your life
02:11earn wealth wise health wise and relationship wise if you're clear about your vision goal and role
02:18in life you become unstoppable the biggest insurance now pastor has gone on to say that she's happy to start a
02:27conversation and definitely she has started a conversation and also a lot of controversy with
02:32the statements that she's made to carry forward that very conversation we have two very uh special
02:38guests who are joining me on the broadcast suzy bain shah who's an advocate is with us and also isha
02:43jeswal a content creator is joining us on the broadcast misha coming to you first when upasana ramcharan's
02:50wife goes on to claim that a woman's biggest insurance is that she goes on to freeze her eggs
02:57what are your views on the statement i think uh whatever good afternoon to everyone and thank you for
03:03having me on your show it is this statement has definitely stirred a debate but debate for a very
03:10few you see the lady i believe her name is upasana comes from a very privileged background has the
03:17financial stability and the ability to promote and propagate the concept of egg freezing but that is for
03:24a privileged few no it does not apply to most of the indian women and therefore i think the the the
03:32the concept is not only it's not well developed and it's an option it's not an option available to
03:38all if you want to choose your career stability i i do believe that there is no conflict on for for
03:45having a timely motherhood and having your career it is the option that you have to choose and the
03:51options are available to most of the women it is up to them whether to choose them or not having said
03:57that i would also say that the word insurance i think it's a very very wrongly used word because
04:03insurance gives you guarantee in egg freezing thereafter preceding with ibf procedure there is
04:09no 100 guarantee of you being a mother so therefore to call call it up insurance is misguiding and
04:17certainly egg freezing is no no silver bullet there are financial implications there is it affects the
04:24health of a woman there is also the the the the hormone imbalance which which is created because
04:31of this ibf treatment so i think i think it requires a awareness debate and it is indeed for a very
04:40privileged few women absolutely do you agree it cannot be all unicorns and rainbow as upasana goes on to
04:48put it and uh uh misha is making that point that it's not a silver bullet there are pros and cons with
04:54this entire egg freezing argument as well in fact health care advocates even doctors have gone on record
05:01to say that it's not a hundred percent proof that you eventually is are going to bear a child if you
05:07in fact go ahead freeze your eggs for later and then comes the cost do you think that upasana is either
05:14completely oblivious to that socioeconomic reality of very many of the indian women uh that they cannot
05:22bear that extensive 5 to 12 lakh rupee cost of not just freezing the eggs but also the embryo transplant
05:28that comes along with it yeah so good afternoon everyone thank you for having me on the show first of all
05:35see first of all upasana other thing which upasana has said is something very sensitive
05:40this differs from woman to woman what she has said is definitely fitting in the background from which
05:46she is she has come from a very high profile society and uh the cost and the technology which is in
05:54involved in this entire process of freezing eggs is some is something which she has been like she has
06:01grown with that because she comes from a farmer giant company so what i think that what she has said is
06:06completely not going with the uh woman the society from which i come from 90 percent of the indian woman
06:13actually uh can't bear this much of cost because it takes lakhs of rupees plus there's all again a mental
06:20uh very mental stress when it comes to freezing eggs first of all i think that uh what she has said
06:28that if uh the female uh society of us freeze the eggs i think that gives them a ladder to success but i
06:36think uh on a different front i think uh i gave a birth to a baby girl two months back and from my
06:43pregnancy journey of nine months to two months postpartum i never felt that i have uh given up
06:49my career or there's some hindrance i've been facing my entire journey correct i i was i can i regularly
06:56created content i was traveling i was speaking at different seminars so i didn't think that this is
07:02creating a hindrance i think everything goes smoothly when you have a particular good support from your
07:08partner from your parents from family and from the society and i think women don't have to go through
07:15medical procedures just to get the success i think if we go back to 30 to 40 years back many of the peers
07:22the women in our society were not encouraged to work but right now i can see my my mom me going out and
07:29working being financially independent and i think the the the society in which we live in 90 percent
07:35plus of the society the so the indian society is progressing but we don't have to go through the
07:40medical procedure and uh freeze our eggs i really want to understand further isha and first of all
07:46congratulations you are a new mother uh she has come up with a retort she's also followed up uh that
07:53tweet of us and she is wanting to engage in the criticism that is coming her way by making a
08:00comparison and she's put out two slides saying that this is what was encouraged for women but this is
08:05what i have done and then she goes on to claim that you know i married at 27 i froze my egg for
08:11completely health reasons at the age of 29. uh and if she says that is marrying late and that is her idea
08:17of marrying late like i have an example i got married when i was 32 so to each their own like isha you
08:23said and like uh misha you mentioned so to each and everybody comes from that certain threshold and
08:28what their idea of having a career at what time having a baby at what time and eventually and before
08:34that of course marriage at whatever time whichever way or have a way maybe without marriage i mean it
08:40totally depends on a woman if she's talking about the autonomy and a choice that a woman needs to come
08:47with that's totally each her own and that is something that we must be discussing why why talk
08:52about freezing eggs only in particular okay so i think that yeah freezing is is not the entire thing
09:01if that the the thing that i want to have kids later in my life or if i don't want to give kids at all
09:09i want to have kids at the age of 23 24 this completely depends from each uh female to female
09:16i i think no one is there to put that pressure you have to go and freeze your eggs and then only you
09:21can succeed i think she gave her opinion because she came from that society she's uh she she is from
09:27the family of apollo hospital so definitely she has seen that particular technology building up in her
09:32family so she can definitely afford that but i think the family which i come and most of the indian
09:38women come uh this is something which is very expensive so definitely uh this
09:46absolutely emisha you know she's also talking about females returning into the workforce and she's
09:50talking about the female labor participation but she's also seems to be rather oblivious to the data
09:56because we even though we boast of a very very robust working environment here in the country we still lag
10:02behind very many of our g20 peers when it is about female participation in the workforce so we have
10:09bigger ladders to climb before we get to let's say a very very elite concept of freezing eggs
10:15and also very privileged at that yes it gives you gives you kind of a feeling that you know elitist
10:22kind of a statement and also i would not run away from saying i would i would also give it a thought that
10:28maybe she's from that line where apollo hospital has the option of freezing eggs for women maybe she
10:33was promoting so she was endorsing okay that is also an argument she's she's chosen to take on and she
10:40in fact loves uh uh you know it out by that that follow-up tweet that she has put out but she's clearly
10:46getting that backlash and people are uh they can't help but make that comparison considering she uh you know
10:53associated with the health care health chain otherwise what was the reason there was no reason
10:59whatsoever there are so many debates so many conversations where most of us including all
11:04the three participating in this uh in this debate have participated in increasing women's workforce
11:10participation but we would never mention it because she has an excess she knows that particular hospital
11:18maybe has this uh egg freezing uh facility but maybe underutilized so maybe she was she was making
11:25a point out there that it should be used by women well it is an option it is an option for women
11:31available to them but it is certainly and absolutely not an insurance it is a very misleading statement
11:39and the woman the women whom you propagate they should be aware about the pros and cons
11:44i don't think she's given any negative side of this story and therefore it should be treated as
11:50such and it should be there out there an option available but i don't know how many of us will be
11:55using it absolutely check with your healthcare providers know the pros and cons and see if you
12:00have the funds to support such a decision if you do decide to make it but miss cha and isha jeswal
12:05thank you so much for joining us on the broadcast and uh let's now talk about one major criticism that has
12:11come in from uh for upasana that is uh by the zoho co-founder sridhar vembu now in october 2025 cnn news 18
12:21spoke to zoho's co-founder mr vembu about child care for working parents in early marriage this is what he
12:27had to say back then i'm here in your campus it's a buzzing campus and lots of young people i see a lot of
12:37young women working here and interestingly when i was coming at the reception i saw this elderly lady
12:43taking care of almost a newborn child and it felt nice to see that somebody could you know the
12:49reception had made space for them how would you describe uh zoho corps campus and its culture the
12:55company's culture so we are here we look at ourselves as an extended family that's how well
13:01describe it that's why you saw the kids we do take care of the child care because it's no working
13:07parents both uh and a father and mother they can work more at peace if they know that their child is
13:12in a safe place i also i want to add this today we have a demographic you know bust everywhere particularly
13:20in the south but all over india so i encourage our own employees get married have children and what
