00:00From many a moment you didn't realize was entirely made up on the spot, or not as it later became known,
00:07to mind-boggling mistakes leading to an entire feature being redubbed.
00:11It's time you discover the secrets every other Star Wars diehard has already had their minds utterly blown by.
00:18Gareth here from WhatCultureStarWars and here are 10 Star Wars Secrets Everyone Knows But You.
00:2410. Many A Celebrity Cameo You Missed
00:27It has become an adventure in its own right, unpacking precisely which well-known stars of stage and screen
00:33have managed to wiggle their way into the various space-aged locales seen in whatever latest slice of Star Wars goodness is being pumped onto our screens.
00:42Most recently, Zach Braff's unexpected cameo, whilst buried deep in prosthetics as the double-crossing Freck in Disney Plus' Obi-Wan Kenobi,
00:50acted as the latest well-known celeb getting in on the Skywalker Saga action.
00:54But he merely joins the likes of Joseph Gordon-Levitt playing slow and low,
00:58Tom Hardy and Daniel Craig rocking up as stormtroopers,
01:02and Simon Pegg as Unkar Plut, to seriously name but a few,
01:06in making a subtle mark on a series each of the stars clearly hold very dear to their hearts.
01:11Said cameos aren't strictly confined to famous actors either,
01:15with music sensations like Ed Sheeran and Nick Godrich,
01:18both appearing in Rise of Skywalker at various points too.
01:21Number 9, Ewan McGregor hasn't always been a huge fan of the Star Wars experience.
01:27Time has a way of healing all wounds,
01:29and luckily it found a way to help Ewan McGregor recover from his prequel-inflicted ones,
01:33just in time for him to rediscover his Obi-Wan Kenobi mojo for Disney Plus.
01:38Yet while McGregor has been quick to note how refreshing it's been in more recent times
01:42to come into contact with the younger folks they made the prequel films for,
01:45The Scottish star hasn't always been a huge admirer of the all-round Star Wars experience
01:51he's found himself at the centre of.
01:53Claiming that he'd not actually come into contact with any genuine fans of the galaxy far, far away
01:57for the most part back in 2014,
02:00McGregor would claim,
02:01The people I meet are the effers who want me to sign Star Wars photos,
02:05so they can sell them on the internet,
02:07or the people at premieres who are crushing children against barriers
02:10to get me to sign their effing picture of Obi-Wan Kenobi.
02:13They're not fans, they're parasitical lowlifes and effing w-ers.
02:17Thankfully, those kids who were likely crushed against said barriers
02:20found a way to bring Ewan back to the light side in the end.
02:23Number 8, Return of the Jedi's fake production title helped the shoot.
02:27It's become pretty standard practice in this day and age to disguise the filming
02:31of one of the hottest incoming features the movie business has to offer
02:35with the gifting of a fake production name to said project.
02:38See Avengers Infinity War and Endgame's codename of Mary Lou, for example.
02:42But some three decades or so before Robert Downey Jr. and co. were going under the radar,
02:47the folks trying to bring the eagerly awaited original trilogy,
02:50including Return of the Jedi,
02:52opted to head down the secret title route
02:54to ensure the studio wouldn't be priced out of using certain locations
02:57just because there was an eye-catching Star Wars feature coming to town.
03:01Blue Harvest was the title eventually landed on,
03:04with said fake feature having the backstory of being an incoming horror flick,
03:08with the artificial tagline of Horror Beyond Imagination.
03:11This also helped keep unwanted attention from the general public to a minimum
03:15when shooting on location,
03:17with next to nobody giving a damn about a title
03:19that would soon go on to become the catalyst
03:21for a family guy corner of the galaxy in its own right.
03:24Number 7, Han Solo's I Know wasn't completely improvised in the moment.
03:28For the longest time, it was largely believed that,
03:31being the lovable maverick fans knew him to be,
03:33Harrison Ford had decided to cheekily go off script in the heat of the moment,
03:37with Han Solo's utterance to his beloved Princess Leia of I Know
03:41on the back of her declaration of love towards the smuggler.
03:44In actual fact, though, said line, while not in the original script,
03:47wasn't actually entirely improvised on the fly by Ford there and then.
03:51Thanks to recordings from the set of The Empire Strikes Back
03:54now being made available to dive into,
03:56and Vulture later providing confirmation on the matter,
03:59it was later revealed that the actor actually discussed
04:01replacing the previously planned response of
04:03Just Remember That Cause I'll Be Back,
04:05with director Irving Kirshner on set.
04:07Then, after some typical Ford persuasion tactics
04:10that consisted of him feeling I know better fit the sequence,
04:13and Solo in general,
04:14Kirshner eventually granted Ford this request,
04:17and an instantly iconic one-liner was emphatically born.
04:20Just with a little prior planning first.
04:22Number 6.
04:23How much did the galaxy's feature players make?
04:26It certainly pays to be a part of one of the biggest pop culture franchises
04:29to have ever existed in this particular galaxy,
04:32but just how much?
04:33Well, to begin with,
04:34Harrison Ford was said to have pocketed a cool $10,000
04:37for his work as Han Solo in A New Hope.
04:39With the likes of Mark Hamill and Sir Alec Guinness
04:41being said to have come away with $650,000
04:44and $3.3 million respectively for said first outing.
04:49Carrie Fisher's salary wasn't officially disclosed, however,
04:52though it's been reported that she earned a quarter of a percent
04:54of the flick's total profits,
04:56which is not too shabby.
04:58Jumping into prequel territory,
04:59Hugh McGregor reportedly earned $7 million
05:02for appearing in Revenge of the Sith alone,
05:05with the Scottish star likely earning a pretty penny
05:07from his new spin-off show too.
05:09Rounding out the pay packets,
05:10newcomers Daisy Ridley and John Boyega
05:12were both able to land between $100,000 to $300,000
05:16for their work on The Force Awakens,
05:18with said salary no doubt rising for the subsequent entries,
05:21which is something that can probably apply
05:22to the rest of the people on this list.
05:24And the likes of Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver,
05:26being slightly more high-profile names at the time,
05:28were able to secure mid-to-high six-figure deals
05:31upon making their Star Wars bows in the same flick.
05:34So simply put, they got PAID!
05:365. Who Needs a Script
05:38Despite the aforementioned iconic delivery of I Know
05:41not actually coming out of nowhere,
05:43that's not to say this galaxy far, far away
05:45hasn't played host to its fair share of previously unexpected
05:48and unscripted beats over the decades.
05:51Proving that sometimes the most charming Star Wars utterances
05:54have been known to come in the heat of a moment,
05:56Chirut Imwe actor Donnie Yen would admit
05:58that his declaring of,
05:59are you kidding me, I'm blind?
06:00upon having his head bagged in Rogue One,
06:02was completely made up by the actor on the day of shooting.
06:05Mark Ammo was also not exactly shy
06:07about adding the odd bit of dialogue or action
06:10into a scene should he feel the urge,
06:12with his A New Hope line of,
06:13I can't see a thing in this helmet,
06:15and kissing of Carrie Fisher's head
06:16during their exchange in The Last Jedi,
06:18both not being in the script
06:19before the director called action.
06:214. Harrison Ford Soared Up The Millennium Falcon
06:24Before he became known for playing perhaps the single most recognisable smuggler in the galaxy,
06:29you may be aware of the fact that Harrison Ford was actually very much immersed in the field of carpentry.
06:34However, coming equipped with the ability to master all things wooden isn't always a great thing,
06:39when you find yourself on the set of an incoming blockbuster, that is,
06:42as Mark Hamill would hilariously recall to Empire.
06:45Apparently, on one particularly stressful day,
06:48Ford took to literally sawing his beloved Millennium Falcon to bits,
06:52on the back of production on an original trilogy flick,
06:55leaving him rather frustrated.
06:56As Hamill would explain,
06:58people were coming up to me going,
06:59you've got to stop Harrison,
07:00he's sawing up the Falcon.
07:02It was made of wood and he just took a saw to it,
07:04I love Harrison.
07:05In that same conversation,
07:06the Luke Skywalker actor would also recount a tale of Ford
07:09jigging his way into his dressing room
07:11to the sound of Andrea True Connections,
07:13more, more, more.
07:14Only to completely no-sell the antics the minute someone arrived at Hamill's door.
07:18Give us more, more, more of this Ford, please.
07:213. What Goes Into Green Milk
07:24Despite sitting as perhaps one of the most jarring scenes ever committed to the Skywalker saga as a whole,
07:29you'd be lying if you said you weren't even just a little bit curious as to what in the world
07:33the recently harvested green milk Luke Skywalker was seen consuming in The Last Jedi tasted like.
07:39Well, wonder no more,
07:40as Mark Hamill himself eventually shed some light as to what Tala siren green milk,
07:44actually consisted and tasted of via his Twitter account.
07:48As it goes, if you're a fan of regular coconut water,
07:50then are you in for a treat the next time you squeeze the tea to the Tala siren chilling by the Actil water?
07:56And in order to give the liquid its unmistakable green aesthetic,
07:59Hamill would also note how this effect was actually remarkably added into the scene in post-production.
08:05So there you have it, you can rest easy knowing said unsettling scene isn't as entirely disturbing as you previously thought.
08:11Still pretty weird though, right?
08:122. All of Attack of the Clones Was Redubbed
08:15For years, the vast majority of Star Wars fans have often lumped George Lucas' seemingly soulless Attack of the Clones
08:21near the bottom of many a rankings list when it comes to the Skywalker saga.
08:25Now sure, there are some admitted highlights in the form of some particularly compelling lightsaber duels,
08:30battleground skirmishes, and staggering CGI.
08:33But the entire endeavor often feels weighed down by dialogue that feels entirely unnatural,
08:38and disconnected from the living beings actually delivering the words.
08:42Well, as recently revealed by Obi-Wan Kenobi actor Ewan McGregor,
08:45the fact the entire film was said to have been redubbed likely didn't help Episode 2
08:49when it came to its routinely clunky and lifeless verbal exchanges.
08:53As McGregor would note at Slashfilm,
08:55the cutting-edge cameras used for this groundbreaking prequel entry were actually rather noisy,
09:00with the actor admitting it was so noisy,
09:02and when in post-production they realized at the end that the noise they made was exactly the frequency of the human voice.
09:08So we had to ADR every single line of Episode 2.
09:11None of the original dialogue made it through because of that,
09:14because the cameras were like, so new.
09:16So it turns out Hayden Christensen was forced to complain about San both on location
09:20and within a recording booth later down the road.
09:22Poor soul.
09:241. Finn's Familiar Stormtrooper Number
09:26I'm finishing off with a rather satisfying secret hiding in plain sight
09:30that went completely overlooked by the vast majority of folks who filed into cinema screens
09:34for the record-breaking return of all things Star Wars in 2015.
09:38Bursting onto the Force Awakens scene like a Stormtrooper possessed,
09:41John Boyega's Finn, aka FN-2187,
09:44instantly captured fans' attention from the second he was spotted questioning his allegiances
09:48to the big bad First Order early on in J.J. Abrams' flick.
09:51However, what most weren't actually quick to spot upon taking an interest in Boyega's Troubled Trooper
09:56was the fact that his original First Order title, before being charmingly rechristened by Poe Dameron,
10:01was actually a callback to a particularly adored princess.
10:04Jumping all the way back to 1977,
10:07a new hope saw Carrie Fisher's lair being held captive on the Death Star in cell number,
10:12you guessed it, 2187.
10:13And this initial reference was actually in odd to a short film called 2187 by Arthur Lipset,
10:19which actually inspired George Lucas to create the feature THX-1138
10:23and the concept of the Force as a whole.
10:25In short, 2187 is a rather significant number in this corner of the galaxy.
10:31And that's our list!
