00:41In a statement posted to X, the State Department said it had immediately paused visa issuance
00:48for individuals traveling on Afghan passports, adding that officials are taking, quote,
00:54all necessary steps to protect U.S. national security and public safety.
00:59The announcement came Friday, as U.S. immigration authorities separately confirmed
01:05that all asylum decisions are being halted for the foreseeable future.

01:23The sweeping move followed a deadly attack near the White House on Wednesday, when 20-year-old
