00:30The plane has crashed into one of the towers of the World Trade Center.
00:50You're talking about a large passenger commercial jet.
00:54The plane was slightly on its side.
00:55It came in like a spear.
00:57It just speared through the building.
00:58Holy smoke, the building I'm supposed to be in is on fire.
01:03Suddenly, there was a second war that came out of the sky, and another plane barreled into
01:08the other power.
01:12Today, we've had a national tragedy.
01:16Two airplanes have crashed into the World Trade Center.
01:21There was smoke everywhere, and people are jumping out the windows.
01:24Over there, they're jumping out the windows, I guess, because they're trying to see themselves.
01:28I don't know.
01:29There has just been a huge explosion, a cascade of sparks and fire, and I can't, I'll tell
01:36you that I can't see that second tower.
01:38September 11th, 2001, changed the world forever.
01:44As we watched in horror, the terrorists attacked the World Trade Center in New York and the
01:48Pentagon.
01:50United Flight 93 was headed for Washington, D.C.
01:54It's target was the White House.
01:58If it were not for the heroic actions of a few men, such as Tom Burnett, 36, who gave his
02:05life, hundreds more would have died.
02:08The first person to get word that that Blaine was in trouble is my guest this morning, when
02:21she got a telephone call from her husband.
02:25Nina Burnett, the widow, is a mother of their three children, two twin girls and a younger
02:32child.
02:34Welcome her now, please, with me.
02:38Tell us about Tom.
02:49What kind of a man was he, Dina?
02:52He was a remarkable man.
02:54He had heartfelt compassion.
02:58He was funny.
03:01He was an intelligent man who was intuitive.
03:05And analytical.
03:08He was a leader.
03:10He loved his family.
03:11And he had great faith in God.
03:14You okay?
03:15Can I get you anything?
03:18I don't want to take this flight.
03:20It just doesn't feel right leaving town right now with you not feeling well and the baby.
03:26You know what?
03:27I am going to be just fine.
03:31Wait and see.
03:35I love you, sir.
03:37I love you.
03:3860, even 100 times more.
03:46I understand he was probably one of the first to make an outside telephone call from the
03:52plane.
03:52Can you tell us about that?
03:53Yes.
03:54The children and I began our morning very early that day.
03:57It was about 6 o'clock when we woke up.
04:00And I immediately turned on the television to check the weather and saw that the World
04:04Trade Center had been hit by an airplane.
04:07And I was very concerned about Tom knowing he was in New York City.
04:11At 6.27 that morning, a phone call came in from Tom's cell phone.
04:16Hello?
04:16And because it was on his cell phone, I thought that he was fine.
04:20And my first words to him were,
04:22So good to hear your voice.
04:23Dina, our plane's been hijacked.
04:25Listen to me, Dina.
04:26There's no time.
04:27And he began going into detail about what was taking place on the plane.
04:32Something's wrong.
04:33What the hell is going on with that?
04:35Stop breaking it!
04:36It's happened right now!
04:40I love you.
04:41I love you.
04:42Tell the voice I love you.
04:43They told me they had knifed a guy, that there was a bomb on board.
04:46You've got to let the authorities know.
04:49I'll call you back as soon as I can.
04:52Tom!
04:58He hung up, and I called 911 and was connected to the FBI.
05:04He called three other times that morning.
05:08Tom?
05:08Each phone call lasting about one minute or less.
05:11The news will say that two planes just crashed into the Twin Towers.
05:13And he shared that information with the people around him.
05:16He began asking questions, analyzing the situation, assessing the problem, and trying to solve it.
05:23Looks like my husband's on the...
05:23Hold on, hold on.
05:25Tom?
05:26Did you get hold of anybody?
05:28Yes, I'm on the other line with them right now.
05:30Let them know these jerks are planning to crash this plane, too.
05:33Trying to make a plan.
05:35Baby, are you okay?
05:36We're gonna have to do something soon.
05:38We're heading towards the White House as far as we can tell.
05:42Tom!
05:42They're gonna crash the plane!
05:49You've gotta do something!
05:51And on the fourth phone call, he let me know that they were waiting until they were over a rural area before they were going to act.
05:58It's the three of us who are about to make our move.
06:00Tom, you've got to know and prepare yourself.
06:03It looks like we're going to die.
06:09Don't say that.
06:10Just know that no matter what happens, I love you.
06:13Tom!
06:13I asked him if there was anything else I could do.
06:17Tom, what can I do?
06:20What?
06:22He said pray, Dina.
06:27Just pray.
06:30Pray, Dina.
06:32Pray.
06:34Tom!
06:35Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
06:41God!
06:42The kingdom come, and thy will be done on earth.
06:46She doesn't have it.
06:50Okay, let's roll.
06:53Ah!
06:53Ah!
06:54Ah!
06:55Ah!
06:55Ah!
06:56Ah!
06:56Ah!
06:57Ah!
06:57Ah!
06:58Ah!
06:58Ah!
06:59Ah!
06:59Ah!
07:00Ah!
07:00Ah!
07:01Ah!
07:01Ah!
07:02Ah!
07:02Ah!
07:03Ah!
07:03Ah!
07:04Ah!
07:04Ah!
07:07When you heard about the plane crash, how did you hear that?
07:17The police were there.
07:19The fire department was there.
07:20The FBI was there.
07:22They were reporting another plane crash.
07:32Miss Burnett.
07:33I have bad news.
07:34My husband was on a plane, and I doubt he was going to kill you.
07:38And I turned to the policeman and asked if that was Tom's flight.
07:44And he said yes.
07:45He was going to kill you.
07:47Where is he going?
07:48No.
07:49He was going to kill you!
07:50Here he said yes, he was going to kill you.
07:54He was going to kill you!
07:54He was like 20 to month not to kill you!
07:55But how did he do that?
07:57Oh...
07:57He was second.
07:58No!
07:59I understand!
07:59Twin girls, six years old.
08:02A friend picked them up from school,
08:04brought them home about five o'clock that evening.
08:07I sat them down on the bed.
08:09What's wrong, Mommy?
08:11Where's Daddy?
08:13Where's Daddy?
08:14And we prayed that God would give us strength
08:20and allow me to answer their questions.
08:23Maybe they were some bad guys on Daddy's plane.
08:26And they crashed it.
08:31And everybody died, honey.
08:35And Daddy, too?
08:38Yeah.
08:41And they began to cry.
08:43They knew what death meant.
08:46And they began to ask questions.
08:49They wanted to know where he was.
08:53Daddy's in heaven.
08:54And I told them he was in heaven with Jesus
08:57and that that was a good place to be.
08:59Daddy wants to be with Jesus instead of us.
09:01They asked if they could send him a letter.
09:04They asked if they could talk to him on his cell phone.
09:07Oh, dear.
09:09And I explained to them that he was helping God now
09:15and that his work was very important
09:18and that we were here on Earth to carry on God's plan for us
09:22and that someday we would see him again.
09:24What a beautiful, perfect faith.
09:30Thank you, Jesus Christ, for being his Savior and yours.
09:37Day of Miracles is not only about those who miraculously survived this horrific event, but why.
09:45The building escort, who had never missed a day of work in his entire career,
09:49suddenly comes down with a fever.
09:51What do you think you're doing?
09:56I have not missed a day of work in ten years.
10:00I'm not about to.
10:02Just because of a little fever.
10:04And besides, I have to be there when the dignitaries arrive.
10:08What do you think you're doing?
10:12Get back up here.
10:14You're in no condition to go anywhere.
10:17You can't be around others.
10:18You might be infectious.
10:20Just stay here.
10:31You had been doing a Bible study now for several years at the World Trade Center.
10:36At the Bible study a week before the tragedy, the Bible teacher was Dick Arthur.
10:43There was eight men there.
10:45And they said, what's the Bible study about, Dick?
10:47And he said, the rapture.
10:48And four of the men that were young said, I'm ready to go.
10:53And the other four were like older, my age, and had grandchildren.
10:57The four that said they were ready to go died.
10:59He got them, gathered them together, and he told them, if you accept Jesus as your Savior, you'll be in heaven in a few minutes.
11:08How do you know this?
11:09Because after they accepted Christ, he told them to call their families.
11:14In the moments remaining, go to the phones.
11:16Call your dear ones.
11:17And be not afraid.
11:18And tell your dear ones, be not afraid.
11:20And not to sorrow, for we go to a glorious reunion with our Creator.
11:25The timing of these prayers is particularly important and dear to God, because this morning will be remembered by millions to the entire United States as one of the disasters of all time.
11:40Hi, I'm Cal Bramer.
11:42For many people, prayer is a personal conversation with God.
11:45A plea for God's help in making something they're desperately wishing for come true.
11:51And for many of those same people, prayer is often a last resort when tragedy strikes.
11:56Few of us know what it is to cry to God from the depths of our hearts when all else has failed and to hear God answer.
12:03And often, it takes a terrible tragedy to bring people to a belief in the power of prayer.
12:09One person who lived through tragedy and cried out to God in prayer is Janelle Guzman.
12:15My whole life is flashed right before me.
12:26I knew to myself, I honestly felt that I wasn't going to get out alive.
12:34I knew exactly where I was going.
12:40And I was, you know, going to hell, because I knew I wasn't right with God at that time.
12:46Janelle Guzman lived life on the wild side.
12:49She would be the first to admit it.
12:51I loved to party, loved dancing, loved dressing up sexy, going out there, you know, being the center of attraction.
13:00In fact, the morning of September 11, little did she know, her life was about to change forever.
13:07Without any warning, the building just started to shake.
13:11And I wasn't really scared at that time, because I thought it probably was an earthquake, you know.
13:17So I just stood there, not moving, I just stood there and wait until it finally stopped.
13:22And when it did stop, I just went over to the window and I saw bits of debris and stuff, you know, falling down.
13:30Once she found out that Tower One had been hit by a plane, she started running down the 64 flights of stairs.
13:37I stopped on the 13th floor and without a warning or a sign or anything at all, I just felt an explosion.
13:48And the place went completely dark and dusty.
13:53I was feeling so helpless.
13:55I couldn't move, so I just stood there, face down, with the thought that I'm going to die.
14:03This is it for me.
14:05Janelle was trapped and buried alive under the rubble of the collapsed tower.
14:09I thought I was dreaming.
14:11When I woke up, I was like spitting on dust and I said, oh my gosh, this is not a dream.
14:18This is really happening.
14:20This is real.
14:21And still, I didn't pray.
14:24Unable to move and hardly able to breathe, she knew she was dying and there was only one place for her to turn.
14:32And then, my whole dilemma just changed right there and then and I said, God, I don't want to die, you know, give me that second chance.
14:42You know, save my life, I need to be with my family.
14:47Under the fallen building, alone and exhausted, Janelle began talking to God in a way that was entirely new to her.
14:56I just take a deep breath and I said to myself, oh God, give me the strength to pull my head out from the concrete pillar.
15:05I just pulled it with all my might and I just yank it out and I could feel a hair and my head is ripped out.
15:15But I was feeling this burning sensation in my heart and I was like, really wanting for him to hear me.
15:22Janelle wondered if she would get out a lie and she turned to God in desperation.
15:27I was asking him for a miracle.
15:29You know, I was there and I was just giving my all to him and I was saying, you know, God, you can do miracles.
15:36I heard that you've done it before.
15:38You know, why can you show me a miracle today?
15:40Show me a sign.
15:41Show me that you hear me.
15:43You know, I'm calling all out to you and, you know, just answer me.
15:47Sometimes we underestimate the power of prayer.
15:54Give me meaning in my life.
15:57On this particular morning, there were hundreds of prayers heard and answered and hundreds of prayers since then.
16:05Janelle was caught in the middle of the crashing towers and prayed for God to help her.
16:10The next day, she was the only one found alive.
16:13When they rescued her, she was found standing up, asleep.
16:17Janelle didn't know who was with her, but his presence was calming.
16:26I felt the person said, Janelle, I got you.
16:30My name is Paul.
16:32And I had a smile on my face and I said, oh, thank God.
16:36And I kind of drift out of sleep and then I wake up, you know, very fast.
16:40And I tried to look at the person to see his face because he was still holding my hand.
16:44And he said, you all right?
16:45You know, they're going to get you out of here.
16:47You know, hold on this.
16:48I'm going to hold your hand through it all until, you know, until the guys get here.
16:52After being buried for 27 hours, Janelle Guzman was conscious when she was pulled from the rubble.
16:57She was the last survivor rescued, taken to the hospital.
17:01Her first request was to meet and to thank Paul.
17:05So which one of you held my hand?
17:07They said, they didn't hold my hand.
17:10No one was holding my hand, talking with me.
17:12They said, no, no one on the team was named Paul that day.
17:19Even the firemen that rescued Janelle said there was no Paul on their team.
17:24Convinced that she saw an angel, Janelle knew she had to change her life.
17:29And when I saw Roger and he came to my bedside, I said, honey, we have to change.
17:34We have to get control of our life and be right with God.
17:38I can't go back to live with you, you know, not being married.
17:42Roger agreed, knowing in his heart that only God could have saved Janelle's life.
17:47He was more than willing to live differently, and they were married in June of 2002.
17:52Now, instead of looking forward to weekends of wild partying, their first priority is their relationship with God.
17:59I really believe that there's no way anything or anybody is going to come between my family,
18:06as far as Janelle, my wife, and I are concerned, because of that center foundation that we have that is so strong, which is God.
18:15Today, Janelle is able to walk along the streets of Ground Zero and realize she doesn't need a tragedy to motivate her to pray.
18:22Instead, she relies on daily prayer to help her in all areas of her life.
18:27I know prayer is the answer to all things.
18:30When we think it's impossible for things to happen, prayer beats it all.
18:36Janelle Guzman McMillan believes it was prayer that kept her alive through the worst terrorist attack the U.S. has ever seen.
18:45And she knows now that God hears and answers our prayers.
18:49She is lucky to be alive. She is one of the survivors of the Twin Towers.
18:58What were you doing in the Twin Towers on September 11th?
19:01Well, it was my first time actually there. I was visiting one of my really good friends from college,
19:06and she had just gotten a job as a trader at Cantor Fitzgerald.
19:11And we had breakfast at Wild Blue, you know, attached to Windows of the World.
19:16And really moments before, I had said my goodbyes to Stacy and headed down the elevator,
19:24and the elevator just started shaking a lot. The sound was unbearable and didn't really have any concept of what was happening.
19:36It just happened so fast, it really didn't get a chance to analyze it too much at that moment.
19:42When did you first realize there was an airplane that had crashed into the building?
19:47Not until later after I was revived.
19:51There was a lot of debris and kind of scratched and clawed my way out.
19:56You know, it was covered in soot and things.
20:02There was a man in the elevator with me, and he didn't make it out.
20:14I don't understand. I'm only going to be gone for the day, and what's bothering you?
20:19I just really don't have a good feeling about this trip.
20:23Besides, you promised me that you'd never travel without me again.
20:27I know, I promised, but I can't help it.
20:29They have an emergency meeting, and I've got to be there, so I can't help that.
20:33But hey, I feel great. I've never felt better.
20:36And the heart, I haven't had any problems with it for a long time.
20:40And if I need it, I've got medicine I can take with me, which I am.
20:44And I've got the little, you know, the little phone.
20:49Cell phone?
20:50Can you hear me? Yes.
20:52So it's important that you know that I'm there, and I will always be with you.
20:56All right. Well, you promised me a really big wedding.
20:59I promise you a big wedding.
21:01Will you get a text while you're in New York?
21:03And I promise I'll get a text.
21:04Oh, good.
21:05So...
21:08Come here.
21:15Mmm. That should keep you safe.
21:17You know, I love you very much.
21:20You're my whole world.
21:22I don't know what I'd do without you.
21:24You just wouldn't.
21:25No.
21:30Go, you've got a plane to catch.
21:31All right. You... I'll call you.
21:34Bye-bye.
21:35Bye, baby.
21:44I see a light.
21:50With the help of some paramedics and real heroes as far as it goes, I remember kind of looking down, and the paramedics were trying to resuscitate me, and I could see myself.
22:17And I'm thinking, why are they working so hard? I feel fine.
22:20You know, I was...
22:22I was watching it all happening, and I didn't feel any...
22:25any physical pain at that time, although I know I was in pain as I was trying to get out, but I was just praying.
22:31I was a silent observer, and I remember hearing them pronouncing me dead.
22:36You know, she's gone.
22:38I didn't feel much of anything other than just kind of peace, and...
22:43as I kind of felt my, I guess, more ethereal, or my spirit going and watching this all happen, and them working so hard, and me not being in pain.
22:53And then I felt a lot of light and love around me.
23:02Also, you know, my grandparents.
23:04They would pass when I was young.
23:06I saw them, and it was almost like I was coming home.
23:11And there was an angel, and I felt very small next to him.
23:15You know, it seemed...
23:17I had no sense of time or real space.
23:19It was really strange and beautiful.
23:24You know, it was just a real feeling of peace and universal love.
23:30It was just warm.
23:33And I remember saying, Lord, if I'm here, if you want me, take me.
23:39And it seemed as if no sooner than that, I was...
23:44I was...
23:45He was sending me back and, you know, leading me into service.
23:50I was there, and I was surrounded by spirits of those that I love.
23:55And I felt so safe.
23:57And when I came back into my body, it was, um...
24:03How can I say?
24:04It was, uh...
24:05It was like I was plunged into a pool of ice.
24:13Oh, my God!
24:14She's back!
24:15She's back!
24:16It's a miracle!
24:17She's back!
24:18She's back!
24:19She's back!
24:20She's back!
24:21She's back!
24:22Yeah!
24:23Oh, my God!
24:24She's back!
24:25It was like, for moments, know where I was or really how I got there.
24:27And it was, um...
24:28Yeah, I didn't necessarily want to be back at that moment.
24:29I feel really blessed and fortunate.
24:32And, um...
24:33And, I think that, um...
24:36You know, I'm just trying to share that with others.
24:39And see how I can help.
24:41I know that it wasn't my time.
24:43And, um...
24:45and and I know that now I'm not afraid of death at all anymore you know
24:52thinking about it for and seeing others that have gone before me and but now I
24:55have a sense of peace and knowing you know forget at least getting a glimpse of
25:00the feeling of you know what they're experiencing and but there's so much to
25:05do here so many so many women lost their husbands and so many children lost their
25:12parents and well that's that's you know somebody needs some comfort the people
25:21who survived we have a lot to be thankful for and I hope that you know we're you
25:29know I feel good about being able to help those that did survive because there's
25:34so much there's so much grief and you know but there are so many miracles that
25:38happened that day too. Amber the young businesswoman was trapped in the
25:44elevator when power went out of the tower. Somehow she escaped the elevator only to
25:52find herself on a terrifying long journey to safety.
25:59I see a light.
26:29I hope you feel that reflexive.
26:59When she was taken to the ambulance, she died.
27:12She left her body and found herself in heaven.
27:30God told her to go back to earth to help those still in need.
27:34She was guided by a beautiful, angelic being.
27:48She's back!
27:53You're my glory, and the lifter of my head.
28:08We have assembled in this room the leaders of the armed forces, all of the armed forces.
28:15And before us, we see four beautiful windows developed and designed by a gifted artist
28:24from Fredericksburg, Texas.
28:29Windows that symbolize what our country is all about, countrymen who had read the Psalms
28:35as they gathered together in their houses of worship from the thirteen colonies.
28:41Brazened on these windows are the words that every uniformed member and every Department
28:49of Defense civilian says as an oath of office, I will support and defend.
28:58How can I support and defend the Constitution of the United States?
29:04For the help of God.
29:09It's fitting that this flag will serve as a powerful reminder of the bond between freedom
29:16and those who are willing to fight for freedom.
29:20We shall not forget the sacrifices of those Americans who died in the service of their country,
29:26whether it was here in this very place, or in New York City, or in Afghanistan, or in Iraq,
29:34or all the other sacrifices that people have made in the name of freedom of this nation.
29:42Mr. Speaker, we thank you for the gift of this very special flag.
29:47We thank the gifted designer and, I might add, most generous donor of these magnificent windows,
29:55Mr. Dennis Roberts, for helping to create a place of beauty and a place of peace.
30:02Thank you very much.
30:04And may God bless all of you.
30:09Psalm 147, verses 1 through 6.
30:12Praise the Lord.
30:14How good it is to sing praises to our God.
30:17How pleasant and fitting to praise Him.
30:20The Lord builds up Jerusalem, gathers the exiles of Israel.
30:24He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
30:28He determines the number of the stars and calls each of them by name.
30:33Great is our Lord and mighty in power.
30:35His understanding has no limit.
30:37The Lord sustains the humble, but casts wicked to the ground.
30:43And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.
30:47No longer will there be any curse.
30:50The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and His servants will serve Him.
30:54They will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads.
30:58There will be no more night.
31:02Day of Miracles is not only about those who miraculously survived this horrific event, but why?
31:16Because this morning will be remembered by millions to the entire United States as one of the disasters of all time.
31:25The Lord's Prayer is not only about those who miraculously survived this entire War.
31:31The Lord's Prayer is not only about those who miraculously survived this entire War.
31:34The Lord's Prayer is not only about those who miraculously survived this entire War.
31:34Okay, ladies and gentlemen, turn the page over one more page.
31:39Then look at item number three, and then we'll continue to compare with the chart.
31:46And we'll start with item number one.
31:47Excuse me, Cole.
32:01Item number three.
32:07What?
32:12Captain, assemble the Joint Chiefs.
32:16Ladies and gentlemen, an aircraft that just crashed in at the World Trade Center.
32:20For the monitor.
32:24We might be under attack.
32:27Wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute.
32:30We don't know that yet.
32:32God help us.
32:33God help us.
32:39Oh my God, oh my God, a plane just crashed into the towers.
32:43What?
32:43What should I do?
32:44All right, look, calm down.
32:45Let's get the sect up on the line.
32:46Do you understand?
32:47What?
32:48Go, go.
32:48Go.
32:49Go, go, go.

34:59Let's go.
35:01Let's go.
35:03Let's go.
35:05Let's go.
35:07Let's go.

35:13Let's go.
35:15Let's go.
35:17Let's go.
35:19Let's go.
35:21Let's go.
35:25Let's go.
35:27Let's go.
35:29Let's go.
35:51Let's go.
36:18There was nobody left alive after that first day.
36:20It was pretty unbelievable.
36:24We really did expect to find some people alive.
36:27You know, it was just chance that I was at that spot,
36:31and we happened to really find him there.
36:36You know, I came down from the precinct as soon as we heard,
36:41and it was just a mess, and like I said,
36:44I almost didn't think we'd find anybody alive.
36:46I could never express the feeling of that day.
36:51It's just being down there,
36:53and I was going in and out of consciousness,
36:56and I would hear voices, and then I wouldn't hear anything,
37:00and it's just amazing.
37:04Then, all of a sudden, I heard Red's voice,
37:08and he's talking to me, and I thought I was gone.
37:13I really thought I was gone.
37:16When I heard his voice, for some reason,
37:18I knew he was going to be the one that was going to get me out.
37:21To me, at least, it was a relief
37:23to know there was someone alive down there.
37:27But, you know, you feel so helpless.
37:29I mean, this is your job is to go out and, you know,
37:32try and protect people, but, you know,
37:33against this kind of destruction,
37:36there's just, there's nothing you can do.
37:38No way you can go through this
37:39and not have a tremendous amount of love and respect.
37:44I really didn't think I was going to be able to get him out.
37:47So, you know, thinking back about it now,
37:50it, it, uh, it's pretty amazing.
37:56I mean, the hole that I was talking to him through was only,
37:59you know, maybe eight or ten inches to begin with,
38:02and we really had to bust it open quite a bit.
38:05And I, I had no idea.
38:06I just, I kept talking to him and trying to encourage him.
38:12Here we are a week later, and I was, you know,
38:16it was, it was jagged sharp all the way through the rubble field.
38:22There was, uh, you know, bits of steel and, you know,
38:25you really, you couldn't make your way one way or the other.
38:28And I saw one area that looked like a little bit of a, of a pyramid,
38:33uh, of a shape.
38:35And I thought, you know, it looked like there might be something there.
38:38And I, I got closer and I realized that there was an air pocket.
38:42There was a hole, you know, again, maybe eight or ten inches.
38:45And, uh, I called down there.
38:47Um, as soon as I found it, I thought there's gotta be someone down there.
38:52And, uh, you know, and Sonny called back and I said, you know, who are you?
38:56I said, you know, what's your name?
38:58I was just trying to, you know, find out who it was.
39:01And he said he was a cop.
39:03And I was like, boy, that, that just really made me feel good.
39:22Within that first, within that first few hours, we were, it was hectic there.
39:32And, uh, there was really no resources at the time.
39:36But I did see one fireman, uh, probably a hundred yards away.
39:41And he had a, uh, he had a sledgehammer.
39:43And, uh, I asked him if he could come over.
39:46I said, I thought I had someone trapped.
39:48And we weren't really finding that many people.
39:50So he came over with the sledgehammer and we started busting open this hole
39:54from about eight to ten inches.
39:55And we got it up to about maybe fifteen inches, uh, maybe seventeen inches.
39:59And that was enough to start making an effort, uh, to get him out.
40:04For this is a calling.
40:09And we know that the war rages on.
40:14So we go, we go on because...
40:19Before we did, we asked if he was okay.
40:20Was he, you know, did he have any broken bones or anything?
40:22Uh, apparently his legs were hurting.
40:25Very much.
40:26So, you know, it was just, I didn't know if we were even going to be able to get him out.
40:30I didn't know if he was, if he was, uh, you know, trapped, uh, or anything.
40:34Because he kept saying he couldn't feel his legs too well.
40:36Right.
40:37I didn't know if it was, you know, it was an issue.
40:39Was he, was he just losing his circulation or was his legs crushed?
40:42I can't understand why that after all this death and destruction, I was able to come out.
40:57That I, I can't, I can't understand why I lived and so many other people didn't.
41:05The only thing I can say is for some reason, I think the Lord has something he wants me to do.
41:13And I'm on a quest to find out what that is.
41:16I want to know.
41:30The two police officers were trapped in a pyramid-like cave that had very little air.
41:35We've got two people down here.
41:37One of them had his legs crushed underneath a huge piece of cement.
41:41We've got two down.
41:43We've got two down.
41:44We've got two down out here.
41:55Oh, yeah, yeah.
41:56We've got all the crits, too.
41:58He's leaving after all this.
42:00This is the worst man.
42:07Ow!
42:09Because of the lack of air, they both experienced surreal feelings, and the officer had a vision
42:14of Christ bringing him water.
42:16And, I...
42:17Wow!
42:18That's...
42:19And...
42:21And.
42:22I've...
42:23I...
42:24I...
42:25I...
42:56I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.
43:21Then there was the newlywed.
43:24Sujo John of Teaneck, New Jersey, started his new position in April 2001 with high expectations.
43:32He had an excellent sales job with a firm in the World Trade Center.
43:36I work at the World Trade Center on the 81st floor of World Trade One.
43:41I just barely, you know, got on my seat when this loud explosion goes up.
43:45One part of our office caught in flames and there were small flames all through.
43:53There were shrieks and a manager asked us to come down and said we should all head to the stairway.
43:58We thought that the worst was over and people, you know, everyone was saying stay calm.
44:05And so from every floor people were rushing into the stairway.
44:08And I began the descent with a very heavy heart.
44:11Very heavy because my wife works in World Trade too.
44:16Sujo made frantic cell phone calls to his wife without success.
44:20About the 40th floor, that's when I saw all these firemen and cops coming up.
44:25There were hundreds of them climbing up and we all said, God be with you.
44:28Our prayers are with you.
44:29At some point during Sujo's 40-minute descent from the 81st floor, another explosion rocked the building.
44:37Sujo had no idea a second plane had just flown into World Trade Center number two.
44:45Because Mary's subway train arrived just moments after the second jet had crashed into the World Trade Center number two,
44:52she was never allowed to enter the building.
44:54She spent all of that morning calling out to God to protect her husband, Sujo.
45:00When Sujo and thousands of others finally reached the lowest level of Tower One,
45:05rescue workers directed them across the mall that connects the two buildings
45:09and pointed them to the exit at World Trade Center number two.
45:13I had a few people in front of me and around me and there were thousands behind me or hundreds, I'm not sure.
45:19That's when the whole World Trade 2 collapses.
45:21I'm sure the Holy Spirit led me to the wall of World Trade 2, the wall on the lower level.
45:28And we were huddled, men and women.
45:30I think of the 12, 13 of us, we were huddled together.
45:33If you fell on the ground, you are huddled in the pool.
45:35I had no faint of hope that I was going to live.
45:39So I knew that if I was going to die, I'm going to heaven.
45:42But like I wanted the others to make you to heaven.
45:44And so I said, only Jesus can save.
45:47Start saying Jesus.
45:48Start, you know, start taking the name of Jesus.
45:51All of them, I told them, each one of them, start taking the name of Jesus.
45:54Start taking the name of Jesus.
45:55It's only the name of Jesus that can save us.
45:57And by saving us, I didn't mean, you know, we were going to get out of that situation.
46:02And then eternity, heaven or hell, we just faced everyone there.
46:06And I could hear them cry Jesus behind me, you know, repeating those, repeating the name of Jesus.
46:11You know, I could hear that for at least three, four minutes.
46:14Surrounded in darkness, he thought he had been buried alive as he pulled himself up out of two feet of gritty dust.
46:21Choking on the ash and flying debris, Sujo was walking blind.
46:25It's not your time yet.
46:38Don't give up.
46:49So I picked him up and said, I said, you need, do you know Jesus?
46:53Do you know Jesus?
46:54He said, yes, Jesus, Jesus.
46:56I said, it's not saying Jesus.
46:57A flashing red light from a crushed ambulance directed the two men to safety.
47:02They walked out of the debris field together, saying the name of Jesus through the darkness.
47:08They found one other man alive as they stumbled out of that cloud of death.
47:13He said, here's your phone.
47:18So this phone isn't working.
47:20My wife, she's on the 71st floor.
47:23It's not possible she's going to make it.
47:24Well, let's try your phone.
47:28I think I've got something here.
47:29Oh, my God.
47:32Is that you, honey?
47:34I've been trying you all day.
47:36I've called so many times I couldn't get through.
47:40I'm so glad that you're alive.
47:41You know, I tried to go in to search for you, but this kind woman pulled me out and said
47:50I needed to think about the baby.
47:51Hours later, his cell phone rang and he ran as fast as he could to the New Jersey ferry.
47:59I saw my wife, saw my wife next to Jacob Javitson and I was standing there just waiting for me.
48:07And we couldn't believe it.
48:08Because both of us had given hope that we would ever see each other.
48:12I had absolutely no hope that I would be alive in the first place.
48:15The second place that I would ever see my wife.
48:17Same with her.
48:18And then we see each other.
48:19We hug each other as if, like, this is not real.
48:24This story is not just about those who died, but also about those whose lives will be changed forever.
48:31It's given me a wonderful opportunity to share my faith and the faith that Tom had.
48:40And I think if anything positive and wonderful can come from a tragic and horrid situation,
48:47than it is the fact that we can, in the midst of a tragedy, find God and the strength that he can give us.
48:57And know that if we trust in him, then we'll be just fine.
49:04I know prayer is the answer to all things.
49:08When we think it isn't impossible for things to happen, prayer beats it all.
49:14If you know Jesus, that's all the name you need to take.
49:16That name is so powerful.
49:18It's more powerful.
49:19It's like I can't compare it to any other name.
49:22It's like if the enemy thought that the bomb was powerful or that plane was powerful.
49:26Oh, my God, just this name, Jesus, that's more powerful than any scheme of the evil one.
49:31At this hour, Sujo and Mary are so grateful to the Lord for life, for their love,
49:38for the simple joy of having each other and a baby on the way.
49:43But in their joy is a deep sense of loss.
49:46I'm happy in a way that my wife and I are alive, and, you know,
49:49and my families and our families are not going through what thousands upon thousands of families
49:54are going through in this country.
49:55But the only thing that keeps coming to mind day in, day out, like the last two days,
50:00has been, like, those innocent firemen, those policemen, all that volunteers,
50:06they had no reason to be in that building.
50:08They just came up through the doors of those buildings just to save people like us.
50:14And today, they are not in their homes.
50:16Their loved ones have no clue where they are.
50:19They're frantically running all over the hospitals in Manhattan,
50:22and, you know, trying to reach, trying to reach, you know, trying to see the face of their loved one.
50:28And some of them are never even going to get their bodies.
50:31That thought just breaks my heart.
50:33As we look over the landscape of lower Manhattan,
50:36we're torn between the incredible stories of God's deliverance
50:39and the tragic stories of unimaginable grief.
50:44The Word of God tells us to rejoice with those who are rejoicing
50:47and weep with those who are weeping.
50:50This is an hour when we will certainly do both.
50:53What is also certain but unseen is the rejoicing voices in heaven
50:59of those 12 people who huddled with Sujo John
51:03as the World Trade Center Tower number two collapsed.
51:08Their names are unknown to us, but not to Jesus the Christ.
51:13With their last breath, they called upon His name,
51:17the only name under heaven that has the power over eternity.
51:22Over 90% of the Tabernacle Choir were miraculously absent
51:26from their offices in the World Trade Center on 9-11.
51:29God Almighty, God Almighty, God Almighty,
51:38God Almighty, God Almighty, God Almighty, God Almighty.
51:46If you believe you'll always have tomorrow.
51:53If you believe dreams can all come true.
52:02Deep in your heart you know it's faith that you must show.
52:10If you believe there's nothing you can't do.
52:16And in this world of art the hero will be you.
52:24All my life, all my life, I've always known, always.
52:39The man upstairs is watching over and his faith that he wants you to show.
52:51If you believe there's nothing you can't do.
52:52If you believe there's nothing you can't do.
52:53If you believe you'll always have tomorrow.
52:58If you believe dreams can all come true.
53:06If you believe dreams can all come true.
53:08If in your heart you know it's faith that you must show.
53:14If you believe there's nothing you can't do.
53:21If you believe there's nothing you can't do.
53:22And in this world of art the hero will be you.
53:27The hero will be you.
53:31The hero will be you.
53:41You are my glory.
53:54And the lifter of my head.
54:02You're my glory, Lord, and the lifter of my head.
54:18For Thou, O Lord, art shield for me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.
54:48You're my glory, and the lifter of my head.
