00:00Look, you want to save the world?
00:10You're the great humanitarian.
00:11Take the good.
00:21I woke up one morning wondering what's wrong with me.
00:24I'm in my mid-40s.
00:25I have kids.
00:26I have a job.
00:27But I refuse to stop skateboarding.
00:30And I refuse to stop going to live punk shows.
00:33None of my old friends do.
00:35They have all but one grown up and pronounced the scene dead.
00:38The only friend that I know of from the day 77 or 80 or 82 is an ex-hippie.
00:43He's now 60.
00:45He doesn't skate, but he never turns down an offer to go to a show.
00:49Whether it's some dingy warehouse or club set in a mini mall, he's game.
00:53I don't play an instrument, so I thought I'd ask the hippie this question.
00:56And I asked him, what's wrong with us?
00:58And he said, well, we aren't dead yet.
01:03So this is really an exploration and sharing with my favorite local band.
01:17I decided to ask them a bunch of questions that might help me come up with an answer.
01:23This motherfucker moved from Brooklyn to start an LA hardcore band when LA hardcore was not happening in LA at all.
01:49In 2001.
01:50In 2001.
01:51In 2001.
01:52Yeah.
01:52And I joined in the summer of 2002 when we were called The Problem and there was, these two guys were in it.
01:59He joined in the summer of 2006.
02:01Yeah.
02:02All right, Philippe, vocals.
02:04And we've been together for three years.
02:08Three years.
02:08Three years.
02:08Three years.
02:10Chad Miller, Battle Flask.
02:11Three years.
02:13I'm Timmy and I play guitars.
02:15The Franklin W. Bullochili.
02:18Bass.
02:20Two years now.
02:21Drew, Drew, been in the band about a year and eight months.
02:27Donnie.
02:28Hello, my name is John Foddy.
02:31Chavez.
02:35Guitardo.
02:36I'm Tim.
02:37I play drums.
02:40Yes.
02:40Children.
02:4114 years.
02:42What year is it?
02:4314 years.
02:44Ninety.
02:44Ninety-nine-five.
02:45He's checking your mouth.
02:47He is.
02:48He is.
02:48It's nineteen ninety-five.
02:49Dave Drive, drums.
02:52Kid Spike, guitar, mic, manifold, bass, and Axel.
02:55Axel was looking for his girlfriend.
02:58Thirty years.
03:00On and off.
03:01Yeah, there's been some lapses, but.
03:04And there's Axel.
03:04I was born in Florida.
03:05So was I, so.
03:07And we had decided we'd start a band called The Skulls, so we did.
03:10And that was in 77.
03:11Very short-lived scene at The Mask.
03:13And here we are now in 2009, almost 2010.
03:17And in 2007, I put together a band, The Billy Bones, with my good friend here, Mr. Alex Gomez.
03:23I played with several different bands, The U.S. Bombs, The Authority, The Livingstons.
03:29My name is Drew Milford, and I'm playing with Billy Bones.
03:34Four of the Stitches started in 1993.
03:37I'm Skibbs.
03:38I play drums.
03:38I'm Johnny, I play guitar.
03:43My name is Mike, and I sing.
03:45My name is Mike.
03:46Like a Huckleberry Chance.
03:48My name's Pete, I play bass.
03:53Okay, get ready for some of the baddest motherfuckers ever to come out of Highland Park.
03:57The Gears.
03:58The first time I saw The Gears was at the Santa Monica Civic.
04:04They played with X in the Blasters.
04:06It's 1981.
04:08They've been one of my favorite bands ever since.
04:10Just good fun.
04:12Beating all around, don't give this a moment another you're welcome.
04:35Even though I was too, even though I was too.
04:36Even though I was too, even though I was too.
04:39Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
05:09Don't you come around, I don't even want you to come on
05:29Don't you come around, I don't even want you to come on
05:35Don't you come around, I don't even want you to come around
05:41Don't you come around, I don't even want you to come around

06:08And if I don't want to move into the world I'm not yours

07:53Are you ready to last day out?
08:02I'm super, I'm super, I'm super
08:07You're ready to finish up, I'm super, get out of here
08:11I'm super, I'm super, I'm super
08:18I'm super, I'm super
08:21I'm super, I'm super, I'm super
08:23I'm super, I'm super, I'm super
08:27I'm super, I'm super, I'm super
08:31I'm super, I'm super
08:33I'm super, I'm super
08:35I'm super, I'm super
08:37I'm super
08:39I'm super, I'm super
08:41I'm super
08:43Today's your birthday
09:04That's right
09:04That's right
09:05That's right
09:07Care to say how old you are?
09:0938 years old
09:10Are you going to keep playing until you're 70?
09:13That depends on whether or not I move to Bishop or not.
09:17If the Gears can keep playing, we sure can.
09:20Yeah, that's true, that's true, and you know what?
09:23That's right, we just played with them last night.
09:25Just last night we played.
09:27They're our measure. When the Gears quit, we'll quit.
09:30Exactly the same amount of time after.
09:33Personally, I think I'm going to die next week, or actually on the 30th if I'm dying.
09:37How many more gigs we got?
09:39One gig on the schedule.
09:41We got two more gigs, so after that we don't know.
09:44We're up for a higher if anybody has a good party.
09:46Yeah, but if we got a backyard party we can play.
09:50How bad we'll travel.
09:55If I live till 70, I will play punk rock till 70.
09:58Absolutely.
10:00I don't know what.
10:02That's like two great kids away from me.
10:04It's not a put up contest on that shit right now.
10:07We'll be dead before that, hopefully.
10:09I try to quit like once a week, but Johnny tells me I owe the band too much money, so I can't quit.
10:15Like Charlie Harper?
10:16Charlie Harper from UK subs.
10:18We were just having this discussion.
10:19Who's the oldest?
10:20Who's the oldest?
10:21I would do it even if I didn't get paid.
10:23Like I've been doing it for like six years now, since I was like 14.
10:28Actually you do do it and you don't get paid.
10:30Yeah, I've been doing it and not getting paid for years.
10:32Just for the record.
10:33And the only thing that stopped me is if I was in bed and I couldn't move.
10:38Like I had some kind of weird disease where my arms and legs fell off or something.
10:42If I had the energy, if I'm still alive when I'm 70, I'd have the energy.
10:47If I'm like Billy Bones and I can still jump around and do punk rock, I definitely will.
10:54I'm going to do music for as long as I can.
10:58And what works for me is punk rock.
11:01So in whatever way that I do do it, I am going to keep doing it.
11:05And yeah, when I'm 70, yeah, why not?
11:09If I'm healthy and I can do it, why not man?
11:12There's no reason to stop.
11:14You know what?
11:15It's what keeps you alive.
11:17Music is a universal language, as cliche as that sounds.
11:20But it's so true man, it keeps you alive.
11:22It's something to look forward to.
11:24New music.
11:25Old music.
11:26Yeah.
11:27No, I will do this until you'll bury me with playing music.
11:30Okay?
11:31That's the way it is man.
11:32Absolutely.
11:33Ditto.
11:34Let's see what we're doing here by the animals.

16:28How do you teach? I'm nippin' down. I'm nippin' down. I'm nippin' down. I'm nippin' down. I'm niggin' down. I'm nippin' down. Shine me up without me. I'm nippin' down.

22:46to make it from Silver Lake to Grasso Park at about four o'clock in the morning with a trigger
22:54in about an hour and a half. It was really cool. It was a longboard.
23:04The stitches play at Billy and Christina Bones' 30th wedding anniversary.
23:10Every anniversary. We got it. We got it. We got it. We got it. We didn't sit together another 30 years, but maybe like 27 and a half.
23:26It wasn't that long.
23:28We got it.
23:35Give it up!
23:37Mmmmm.

24:42You're ready to play
24:47I'll own you, I'll own you
24:50Fuckin' the world and I'm
25:15Fuckin' the world and I'm
27:59Why do you guys play punk rock instead of, say, metal or rap or country?
28:16It's a lot more fun.
28:17And we're not trailer trash, shitkickers or gangbangers.
28:20Speak for yourself.
28:23I'd love to be trailer trash.
28:25I'm so choked trailer trash.
28:26Just the energy of punk music, you know, what it creates.
28:30So, yeah, I wouldn't do anything else, you know.
28:32I'm always going to do, whatever I do is going to be with an edge anyway.
28:35So if I was to do country, I'd have an edge to it.
28:37That would be interesting.
28:38I play rock and roll, you know what I mean?
28:40I don't really categorize it as punk, thrash, whatever.
28:44I play punk rock because that's kind of what I grew up with.
28:48Punk is just, you know, just basically singing your complaints in society, you know.
28:53It's just worth it.
28:55It's just what you feel.
28:57It's just what you feel, exactly.
28:59Oh, hell yeah.
29:00That's what we like.
29:01It's what's in our repertoire.
29:05It's the only thing to skateboard to, you know, like, can't skateboard to country.
29:08No, I've skated to jazz, dude.
29:10I've skated to jazz and it's pretty badass.
29:12But it's just what's in our repertoire.
29:14It's like, well, we can play.
29:15That's what we know how to do.
29:17That's what we're trained at.
29:19That's what we feel like playing, you know.
29:21It's just like musically, lyrically, the scene, just like, that's what we want to play.
29:28I play it because it's what I listen to and what I grew up on and what, you know, changed
29:36my life when I was a kid.
29:38Hardcore and, like, punk is just like, it talks about real things happening to real people
29:43and it's not, you know, fake.
29:46Bad reaction.
29:47From Los Angeles, California.
29:49Bad reaction.
29:52Bad reaction.
29:53Wow, what a band.
29:54Simply, my favorite hardcore band rap.
29:58Awesome.
29:59Harsh, but awesome.

30:25The Nazi.
30:25The Nazi.
30:26I and I'm praying to you within my life since I'll be Tape shut
30:30How are you A-Rig한다! I am God, I am!
30:33How are you driving me to me, Ah-Oh, God!
30:41Big Hermede, T recite your breath,
30:48oh no, oh no, oh no, oh oh!
30:52Genetic heart, cannot come on!
30:54The peace of mind, the spirit of the world, the spirit of the town
30:57But I'll be doing it, I'll be doing it
30:59Yes, I won't
31:00I should show up for the hope of my freedom
31:03Yes, I won't let us
31:05And it's true that everyone wants to enjoy
31:08Everyone wants to make a song
31:10Everyone wants to make a song
31:11Everyone wants to make a song
31:12Everyone wants to make a song
31:14That's my song
31:15Ah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha
31:21Don't ask her
31:28Every if I understand the way you go
31:30Every if I do
31:32Go the wrong
31:51Oh man, I was behind the head, I was so so
31:56Nice, nice baby, I was so nice
32:00I was so nice, nice, nice, nice
32:05I was so nice, nice, nice, nice

32:19Yeah!
32:20Yeah!
32:21Yeah!
32:22Yeah!
32:23Yeah!
32:24Yeah!
32:25Yeah!
32:26Yeah!
32:27Yeah!
32:28Yeah!
32:29That's on you, motherfucker!
32:36I'm going to go next?
32:37Alright, alright.
32:40Who wants to cover?
32:42Oh.
32:46Oh, these guys are old now.
32:49This is what a Greer
32:51I think I don't want to quit
32:52They're not real cheap
32:54We are
32:56Blackize Your Born
32:59Blackize Our Men
33:00Blackize Your Born
33:02Let's land you to the street
33:04Cornけ لي to gate
33:06And kill me, throw me
33:07This is Water
33:08Blackize Your Born
33:11Blackize Your Born
33:13Blackize Your Born
33:19Oh
33:49I hate you more, I hate you more
34:19I played Safari Sam's about an hour ago
34:24We just played Safari Sam's, they tried to cut us off the fucking bastards
34:29We didn't get a show at the Knitting Factory, that was solid
34:32Yeah, we usually play like the same Knitting Factory
34:35Showcase Theatre, we've done House Blues, the Key Club
34:38Fitzgerald's, yeah, I think Fitzgerald's
34:42Mr. T's, all the major clubs
34:46Cobalt Cafe, before then we were playing at Rock and Roll Pizza
34:51We used to play at the Malino Inn, and probably back in Lowe's
34:54D. Piazza's
34:56The Airliner
34:58D. Piazza's
34:59Where?
35:00Winter Stencil's parking lot
35:02Popeye's Pub in Peekskill, New York
35:04Peekskill, New York
35:05It really pisses me off that these owners, club owners and stuff
35:09are like making kids sell tickets to play in their venue
35:12and they're making a fucking fortune
35:14That's happened for years
35:15Yes, and I think it's just ridiculous, man
35:17You know?
35:18You've got a talent, you should be able to put it out there
35:20You shouldn't have to pay to show what you've been working so hard to do
35:23to get somewhere
35:25I mean that's just me, and I'm sure Alex probably feels the same way
35:29Absolutely
35:30You know, we're musicians, we don't like to see people taking advantage of
35:33Clubs that take advantage of bands that want to make good music
35:37Pay to play
35:38Yeah, pay to play type stuff
35:39That, that's for me, that's my pet peeve
35:42That should never happen to anybody
35:44If a band shows up and there's people paying, they should get paid accordingly
35:49The Knitting Factory was almost going to get closed
35:52Then there was like, the clinic got closed down
35:54The cops came down on the showcase
35:56Like all the cities that have venues in them are starting to come down on the venues
36:01I don't know why, but we had the clinic
36:04And uh, little by little more kids would show up and get into it
36:08And uh, and the clinic at the end of the last show I played there
36:12Um, there was all local bands, all new bands
36:16And uh, there was like 200 almost, there was like 250 kids at least
36:23So guys
36:34It's your dad
36:36You're a very small team with dad
36:38It's just to him, you are a good man
36:41You have a good dad
36:42I first met Felipe at a party in Van Nuys
36:45Years before he founded Battle Flask
36:47People were jamming, doing covers
36:49And Felipe is out there singing any song someone from the room shouted
36:53I asked my friend Mikey
36:55Who's this French guy who knows all these old LA Punk songs?
36:58It was amazing
37:19I asked my friend who knows all these guys
37:23If you could have a good dad
37:24It was amazing
37:25I'm like something you can't get
37:27No!
37:28It was amazing
37:31It was amazing
37:34It was amazing
37:35It was amazing
37:37It was amazing
37:38It was amazing
37:40I enjoyed this show
37:42I enjoyed this show
37:43It was amazing
37:44It was amazing
37:46It was amazing
37:47Andras

38:39Oh, Murray
38:41My son, I'm on
38:43Oh, Murray
38:46Now I'm talking about
38:49So
38:50Hey, hey, hey
39:13Go!
39:26Oh, my God
39:28I'm going to cry
39:29Oh, I'm going to cry
39:31Hi!
39:32No, no, no, no, no
39:34Oh, Murray

39:40Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
40:10Oh, oh, oh, oh

41:10A word I was born
41:12A ghost I got born
41:13In the south.
41:14High
41:14To the south.
41:16In the north.
41:17To the north.
41:18There's a hideout
41:19A grave
41:20To the north.
41:20In the north.
41:24To the south.
41:27You're on the edge
41:28Now I'd rather be.
41:32Hard to escape
41:34My life is lost.
41:37I'm reaching
41:38See you next time.
42:06They do that every single time. Like, is the scene dead? It's been dead the whole time.
42:10Absolutely not. Look at these guys. They just started.
42:14These guys right here, put the camera on them. This is the scene right here.
42:18And this is on the real.
42:21Fucking... There are better bands now.
42:24I'm fucking older than all these little pussy motherfuckers right here.
42:28There are better bands now than there have been in the whole fucking time I've been listening to punk
42:32for the last 20 fucking years of some bullshit.
42:35There's always somebody else coming out with something new and different and cool and stuff.
42:39And there's always going to be, you know, the cats like myself, man,
42:45that just want to keep it going because we love what we do and we just keep doing it, you know?
42:49No.
42:50It just smells funny.
42:51Shit's not dead, dude. Shit's not dead. That's it.
42:55No.
42:56I hope not. That's us.
42:59Definitely not.
43:01Fuck am I doing, man?
43:02Definitely not.
43:03It's just changed. It's not dead. It's just, I mean, every five or ten years or so it goes
43:07through a change.
43:08It's basically just the natural process of it.
43:11It's not like there's a lack of inspiration to be, to write songs that are punk lyrics.
43:20But things have definitely changed. People are, the kids are different from who they were
43:26back then and people can decide whether or not they like that.
43:30And it really doesn't matter though because things change. You just have to accept that.
43:35That's the way it is.
43:36It's still around. It's just not exactly the same as you meant to remember it.
43:40And if you're 40 years old or 50 years old and you, like, if you were there when it started
43:45and you don't like the fact that it changed, well, tough shit.
43:49It's dead once it gets loud and out of control in the urinal.
43:54Fallujah 71 reminds me of when I was a teenager going to all those shows.
44:00Most of the bands I went to see, the band members were still in high school, just like these guys.
44:05Fallujah 72 is what you want.
44:24Oh, never.
44:26No, never.
44:28No, never.
44:30I go never, there is a line about the rights
44:35I go never, a strong point is, and I get the time
44:41I go never, now and always I don't like to be
44:46I don't know you, do you, do you, do you, do you, do you, do you
44:49I go never, you know what it's about to speak
44:55I go never, I'll wave as you just said
45:00I go never, now and always I don't like to be
45:06I don't know you, do you, do you, do you, do you
45:09I go never
45:25I don't know you, do you, do you, do you, do you, do you
45:55I go never
46:05Alright, this is our last song
46:08The first one I would like to thank
46:10G Club, Agent Orange, and of course Fear
46:13For putting this whole thing on
46:17And, we would like to thank this song to Billy Bones
46:21Who are going in for helping us
46:23Get our new album approved since I was waiting on World of 3
46:26It'll be coming out soon
46:29This is the title track
46:31It'll be coming out soon
46:39Now we'll be right there
46:41Let us know your song
46:42We had this taunty chasing again
46:44Out and out of the world's exiles
46:46Falling monsters
46:48Didn't lie Kallinger
46:50Only this time
46:51One more time
46:52about 2, two, three, six, five time
46:56About 2, three, four, five, four, six, five
46:58On the beat sex
46:59About one time
47:00Only this time
47:01Let's go
47:02Without set
47:05About one time
47:06From the beat
47:07First time
47:08No, We did look
47:08Everything
47:09The amount
47:10Ofшill
47:11Never alone
47:13We are worthy
47:15We are worthy
47:19We are worthy
47:27I am just
47:41Played out 100
47:43I am just
47:45Played out one hundred
47:47I'm just waiting on what was it?
47:51I'm just waiting on what was it?
48:01Go to work.
48:02Nothing.
48:03Then go check out a taekwondo form class.
48:07Maybe run by the CVS because of Twelver.
48:11I'll hit Ralph's because I'm going to have to get some kind of Johnson's spicy Italian sausage
48:16or a head of lettuce.
48:19Maybe a white onion.
48:22Maybe a stock of green onions.
48:24Just cook some kind of dinner for two spas for kids.
48:29And cap it off with some History Channel.
48:35Six or seven bong hits, three beers, and stare at some shit in my garage.
48:41Have we got a grocery store?
48:42I'm a stage hand, which basically means Tuesdays I wake up on Cassius' couch.
48:49Watch a little, maybe put together a stage for Warrant or some bullshit.
48:56A Warrant Union show.
48:58Wasp.
48:59Warrant.
49:01White Snake.
49:03White Lion.
49:04I work in the basement of a big Hollywood agency that I run the video of.
49:10Yeah, we all work our fucking asses off.
49:13We pay the bills.
49:15We're not bums.
49:17I'd chill down to be literate and not be fucking retards.
49:21With the hope that they won't blow the earth up.
49:23Yeah, a typical Tuesday night, probably be out on the town.
49:28I'd probably go to an establishment called The Green Door.
49:33They have a nice jazz night on Tuesdays.
49:36And I would probably get myself Stella and Jameson.
49:41Yeah, but you know, we're actually real punk rockers.
49:46We work sloppily and stuff.
49:48Go in late.
49:50Talk back to our bosses.
49:51We're trying to be as punk as possible.
49:53Still at this old age.
49:55Well, all the kids went home, it looks like.
49:58I mean, the little kids.
50:00So we get nasty.
50:01Well anyway, the f-

50:27Oh, so there are one-hields, right.

50:52I want to get tired of you tonight
51:00I want to get tired of you tonight
51:04I want to get tired of you tonight
51:06I want to get tired of you tonight
51:10I want to get tired of you tonight
51:12I want to get tired of you tonight
51:14I want to get tired of you tonight
51:20I want to get tired of you tonight
51:24I want to get tired of you tonight
51:26I want to get tired of you tonight
51:28Beep, I feel like I'm being the one
51:32I'm not looking for you to be mine
51:34I'm not looking for you to be mine
51:37I'm not looking for you to be mine
51:58You might be wondering what's up with us.
52:15We got a condition.
52:17We got a condition.
52:19We're older and sicker tonight.
52:23We're still stuck inside the teenage brain.
52:28We're still stuck inside the teenage brain.
52:41We're not being stuck inside the brain.
52:45We're still stuck inside the brain.
52:50We're still stuck inside the brain.
52:52We're still stuck inside the brain.
52:54We're still stuck inside the brain.
52:55We're still stuck inside the brain.
52:57We're still stuck inside the brain.
52:58We're still stuck inside the brain.
52:59We're still stuck inside the brain.
53:00We're still stuck inside the brain.
53:01We're still stuck inside the brain.
