Transcript
00:00I have people all the time come up to me and be like, oh my gosh, I love your work.
00:03I mean, I'm team Conrad, obviously, but I love your work.
00:06And I'm like, I don't know if I really want to continue talking to you.
00:09Oh, jeez, man.
00:11I'm totally kidding.
00:13The cast of The Summer I Turn Pretty is opening up about season two
00:16and settling on if they're team Conrad or team Jeremiah once and for all.
00:21Season two of the Amazon Prime series picks up as Belly finds her heart still pulled between Conrad and his brother Jeremiah,
00:27all while the cousins' beach group grieves the loss of Conrad and Jeremiah's mother, Susanna.
00:33It almost feels like these kids are forced to grow up and become young adults,
00:38but at the same time being like, we are still in the same world.
00:41It's sort of like a journey to rediscover that magic and that world
00:46and the fact that these are all the same people that she's known forever.
00:51The show, based on the novels by Jenny Han and its stars, broke out onto the scene last summer,
00:56earning themselves a massive fan base, something the cast says they're still wrapping their heads around.
01:02I mean, I remember just like scrolling through TikTok and being like, oh, people are, oh, this is like,
01:07and, you know, my friends would call me and be like, I just, you just popped up on my TikTok.
01:11When it came out, I went to Boston to go to a Red Sox game with my girlfriend.
01:16And I was there like the day it came out and we were like just walking around and like,
01:23some people were like following us and I was like, are people following it?
01:27Like, it never happened anything like that.
01:30I remember the day the trailer came out, I was playing volleyball at my spot down in Texas.
01:35And all of a sudden, all of these teenagers and high schoolers,
01:41and they started like lining up around where I was, where I was playing and all like yelling my name,
01:47having my, not even my name, just, they said, just Jeremiah.
01:50And they were all recording me and yelling at me.
01:52And it was just so weird.
01:54It was such a different, um, I was not prepared.
01:58This season also welcomes two new members to the cast,
02:01Kira Sedgwick and Elsie Fisher, both of whom play characters that were not part of the original books.
02:07I am, um, Susanna's half-sister, Julia.
02:10We have the same father.
02:11What's great about the character is that you get to see siblings who have a very different version of their childhoods.
02:18And I think that's something that's, we really don't explore a lot on television or movies.
02:23And I think that that often is the case in a family.
02:26I was very impressed initially because I remember finding out that you like,
02:29she like pitched a bunch of like wardrobe stuff.
02:32Like, yeah, I did.
02:34I put together a mood board.
02:36I had the playlist.
02:37It's nice that it was, uh, that I came in in season two because there was already sort of this like world that was like a foundation.
02:44And like, I knew what all the other characters were like.
02:48So it was kind of trying to build someone who definitely came from outside that world, but would mesh well with everyone.
02:54Being that the show dives into the trials and tribulations of young love, the cast also opened up to THR about the biggest lesson they learned from their first love.
03:03Love, especially in high school, like, and I just think that it's something that can't be forced.
03:09And when you know it, you know it.
03:11I have so many things, but I'd say be selfish in love.
03:16If you put all of your weight and importance and basically reason of existence onto somebody, they're bound to let you down.
03:25So you need to find something else that is, is more stable and consistent because everyone screws up.
03:34Right?
03:35Yeah.
03:35Yeah.
03:36He's like, oh, you okay, buddy?
03:38I'm doing great.
03:40This is very genuine answers.
03:41I think it's not a decision that you can just make with your brain, like a logical decision.
03:46I've had relationships that have been awesome and it has simply been wrong place, wrong time, you know, like nothing went wrong.
03:55And for some reasons it just still ended and I think it's a very like tough mentality to have, but just that everything will be all right.
04:04Um, and if you do find a certain somebody who you do really share a genuine connection with, it will be all right.
04:12I learned about what I don't want, you know, with other relationships.
04:16I was like, I need not that, not that, not that, not that, I bet.
04:21And finally, while the characters in the show may be choosing sides, the stars also shared whether they're really Team Conrad or Team Jeremiah.
04:29I think I'm Team Jeremiah.
04:31I'm strongly Team Conrad as well.
04:34My girlfriend's like sort of Team Jeremiah from the books, at least, and she's supportive of me and my career.
04:39So that has changed, but upon reading, she was like, I have people all the time come up to me and be like, oh my gosh, I love your work.
04:47I mean, I'm Team Conrad, obviously, but I love your work.
04:50And I'm like, I don't know if I really want to continue talking to you.
04:53Oh, jeez, man.
04:55I'm totally kidding.
04:57Team Jeremiah, Team Jeremiah, he kind of won me over in the first season.
05:02Season 2 of The Samurai Turned Pretty premieres on Amazon Prime Video on July 14th.
