00:00Congratulations on a great run.
00:02Didn't want to do this. Couldn't do this show
00:03without you after Friday.
00:06How do you feel on this
00:08Monday, you know, 72
00:09hours or so removed from the big announcement, the emotional
00:12evening? How is it all
00:13sinking in?
00:15I feel pretty good.
00:18I feel not too bad. I feel comfortable
00:19with the decision.
00:22You know, I did tell myself that
00:24like you said, in
00:25these next four fights,
00:28I got to get a title shot.
00:29I got to win a title. That didn't happen.
00:32But if at any point I
00:33lose, you know, that'll probably
00:35be it. If I lose, probably
00:37won't get another title shot.
00:39If I'm there, if I lose
00:41at any point, I probably won't get to a title.
00:44I did get to a title shot.
00:46I lost that one.
00:47About that time.
00:49Now, you said this after on Friday,
00:51but correct me if I'm wrong, you didn't make that public.
00:54You didn't tell us this before
00:55the fight, like this scenario that if
00:57you lose, was there any particular reason
00:59for that? You just didn't want that added
01:00pressure? You didn't want people to bother
01:02you about this? Any reason?
01:05No, no, no reason.
01:06No one never asked me.
01:08Ask me.
01:08Okay.
01:09I don't, you know,
01:10certain things,
01:11I don't always go out of my way
01:14to give my opinion on and
01:15talk about this, talk about that.
01:17No one ever asked about it,
01:18so I just never brought it up.
01:20But it was no secret.
01:21It was no
01:22mastermind plan or nothing like that.
01:25Did you feel
01:26any more nervous on Friday
01:28going to the fight,
01:29knowing if this doesn't go my way,
01:31and let's be honest,
01:32that guy is incredible.
01:33Like, you know,
01:34there was a chance, right?
01:35Did you feel like any emotions
01:37about this could be it,
01:38this could be the last walk,
01:39this could be, you know,
01:40the end of it all?
01:42No, I would say the last couple
01:43fights, knowing that I was
01:45nearing the end of my career,
01:47I had a much more appreciation
01:49for everything,
01:50for talking to the media,
01:51for doing interviews,
01:53for the walk,
01:55and all that stuff.
01:56But going to the fight
01:57on Friday night,
01:58I felt pretty confident.
02:00I felt like I was going to
02:00leave that cage,
02:01the belt were on my way,
02:02so I was happy,
02:03I was excited.
02:04I go, man,
02:04finally it's here,
02:05finally it's my time
02:06to finally get that third belt.
02:08I promised my wife
02:09a third belt,
02:10so I was going to get
02:10her a third belt.
02:11So I was excited,
02:12I was happy,
02:14I was ready to go,
02:15I was in the zone.
02:17It was just, you know,
02:18not my night.
02:19Usman got me.
02:21How good is Usman
02:21and Amarga Madoff?
02:25He's pretty good.
02:26Not too many people
02:27are able to hop on my back
02:28and finish me.
02:29Damian Meyer was on my back
02:30for 15 minutes or so.
02:33Yeah.
02:34Usman, you know,
02:35he did a good job.
02:36He had a good question mark kick.
02:38Pretty advanced technique,
02:40not the question mark kick
02:41itself,
02:42but the rear leg
02:42question mark kick,
02:44not going with a teep,
02:45not a fake teep
02:46to the question mark kick,
02:47but he went from a body kick
02:49inside leg kick
02:51into a body kick,
02:52take that to the question mark kick.
02:54That is a little bit more
02:55advanced of a technique
02:57to hit.
02:58I didn't see coming at all.
02:59Woke up,
03:00he was on my back,
03:00I was like,
03:01oh,
03:02something bad happened.
03:02Kind of replayed my head
03:03a little bit.
03:03I was like,
03:04I think it had to be
03:05a question mark kick
03:06as he's punching me
03:07from all my back
03:07and stuff.
03:08I was like,
03:08oh,
03:08I'm pretty sure
03:09it was a question mark kick.
03:10Man,
03:10I didn't see it at all.
03:12And then he was able
03:13to finish the rear naked.
03:14That's,
03:15it's not easy to do on me,
03:17you know?
03:17So I think he's pretty good.
03:19I think he's pretty solid.
03:2017-0 for a reason.
03:22I was wondering out loud
03:23at the top of the show
03:25if he's a top five
03:26lightweight of the world
03:27regardless of promotion.
03:28I think he is.
03:29Do you agree with that?
03:32I'm not going to disagree with you.
03:33Yeah.
03:33I leave it,
03:34I never begrudge
03:35anybody their opinions.
03:36Yeah.
03:36The biggest mistake
03:38in this world
03:38that we all have our time with,
03:41our society as a whole,
03:42is begrudging somebody
03:43their opinion.
03:44If they don't like
03:45these pancakes,
03:46if they're not the best pancakes
03:47in the world,
03:47I don't think so.
03:48Oh,
03:49I'm going to kill you now.
03:50Well,
03:51I think it's split it
03:51kind of quickly.
03:53Uzman being top five
03:54on the planet,
03:55sure.
03:56No problem.
03:56I'm not going to argue.
03:58If someone says
03:58he's not top five,
04:00sure,
04:00I'm not going to argue with you.
04:01I think he's pretty good.
04:02I think he did a great job.
04:04You know?
04:05I think he did a great job,
04:06you know?
04:08I think he's tough as hell.
04:10I think he had
04:10the greatest skill set
04:12in wrestling,
04:12kickboxing.
04:15A lot of guys
04:16have that kind of
04:16skill set that he has.
04:18Yes.
04:19By the way,
04:19how many kids
04:20do you have now?
04:20Three?
04:24I got four.
04:25Jeez Louise,
04:26four.
04:27This is unbelievable.
04:28I remember when you had
04:29no kids.
04:30I remember when you were
04:30just about to have
04:31your first.
04:32I know.
04:33Crazy.
04:33How long ago?
04:35Who's this?
04:37This is Cub.
04:39Cub.
04:39How old?
04:40This is Cub Arthur.
04:42No.
04:43He's five.
04:44Five.
04:44Unbelievable.
04:45And what's the age range?
04:48I got my seven-year-old.
04:50He just lost his
04:51two front teeth.
04:53I'm 13.
04:54My five-year-old.
04:56My baby brother.
04:57My three-year-old
04:58and the two-year-old.
04:59Nice.
05:00I love it.
05:01I love it.
05:02And so now you're just
05:02like a stay-at-home dad.
05:03You're just like a regular dad
05:05picking up your kids,
05:06going to things.
05:07That's it.
05:09That's the mommy.
05:10Yeah.
05:11Stay-at-home dad now.
05:13Going to do all the
05:14dropping the kids off
05:15from the school in the morning.
05:18Yeah.
05:19Before.
05:21Dropping the kids off
05:22from the school in the morning.
05:24Pick them up.
05:25We're still going to have
05:26our nanny social.
05:27Our nanny will still help out
05:28quite a bit.
05:29She helps them a lot.
05:30But, man,
05:31I'm going to start doing it all.
05:34And coaching.
05:35My wife said it.
05:36And coaching.
05:36And coaching, of course.
05:37And we'll get to that in a moment.
05:38But I was talking about
05:40November 18, 2006.
05:42You fought on
05:42Midwest Championship
05:44fighting Genesis
05:45against someone named
05:46Dan Gregeri.
05:48And you beat him
05:49in the first round.
05:50And then you think about
05:51the road
05:52and the places
05:53and the venues
05:54and the fights
05:55and the opponents.
05:56That kid,
05:57could he have ever imagined this?
05:58Like, was this even
05:59in the cards for you?
06:00Or you were just out there
06:01having a good time?
06:01Like, could you have ever
06:02pictured this?
06:04Not at all.
06:05Not even close.
06:06I didn't picture
06:07none of this at all.
06:10Like, I was never
06:11really badass
06:13cherry tough nuts
06:14in school.
06:15I was never like,
06:15oh, that kid's going to be a fighter.
06:17Oh, he's super tough.
06:18He's really good.
06:19I was never the fastest,
06:20never the strongest,
06:21never the best,
06:21never the most aggressive,
06:22never the
06:23Terry tough nuts guy
06:25walking around.
06:26I was just,
06:27you know,
06:28the skinny geek
06:28who was pretty good at wrestling
06:30who just wouldn't stop.
06:32And then that turned into this.
06:34Unbelievable.
06:35And at one point,
06:36like, when did you believe
06:37that you could actually
06:38make a career out of this?
06:40Like, even in those first fights,
06:41did you believe
06:41that this could be a thing
06:42or did it take
06:43you getting to WC?
06:44Like, when did it start
06:45to feel like
06:46this is an actual thing
06:47that I'm really,
06:48really good at?
06:50I think
06:50right out of college,
06:54I got hired
06:54to the Omaha Police Department
06:55and the Denver Police Department.
06:57I was deciding
06:57between the two
06:58when I took that fight
06:59in 2006
07:00when I took that fight.
07:02And then
07:03I decided then
07:04that I was going to
07:04give it a shot.
07:05Like, ah,
07:06I think I could be
07:07pretty good at this.
07:08We'll see.
07:09I at least wanted
07:10to give a shot
07:10at being a professional athlete.
07:12So I
07:13packed up
07:14all my stuff
07:15and I moved
07:15to Denver, Colorado
07:16to trade with
07:17John Crouch
07:17and Alvin
07:18Kidd Robinson.
07:21But it wasn't
07:21until
07:22a year later
07:24from then
07:24they all
07:26moved down
07:26to Phoenix, Arizona
07:28to change
07:29this fancy new
07:30state-of-the-art gym
07:31called the MMA Lab.
07:32And I tagged along
07:33with them.
07:33I was like,
07:33hey,
07:34I want to come too,
07:35guys.
07:35I want to keep fighting.
07:36I think I can take
07:37this seriously,
07:38you know?
07:38So I tagged along
07:39with those guys
07:40and it was in Arizona
07:42that I decided,
07:44I think I have to do
07:45this long-term.
07:46I think it's going to be
07:46a career type of thing.
07:48But it wasn't until
07:49I got to Arizona
07:50and I realized
07:50how much larger,
07:52how much more support
07:53I could have.
07:54It wasn't just me
07:55doing this and that
07:56but also the support
07:57of my gym,
07:58my coaches,
07:59my training partners,
08:00having to all
08:01kind of come together.
08:02It wasn't just
08:02faith in myself
08:03but faith in my gym,
08:05my corners,
08:05the people around me,
08:06people helping me out,
08:07that kind of stuff
08:08where I realized
08:08I actually could,
08:10I think,
08:10make this a career
08:11type of thing.
08:12My favorite,
08:13and there's a lot
08:14to choose from,
08:14but my favorite
08:15fight of yours
08:15probably is the
08:17October 2009 fight
08:18against Donald Cerrone,
08:19WC43 in San Antonio
08:21because that to me
08:22felt like you took
08:22that next step
08:24and also the things
08:26that you were doing
08:26with your body
08:27and that's where
08:28we started calling you
08:29Bendo and I know
08:30you never really
08:30loved that name
08:31but it was just
08:32unbelievable.
08:33It was just
08:33an unbelievable fight
08:34and then the rematch
08:35was very one-sided
08:37and rather quick.
08:39We were all kind of
08:39buckling up for another
08:40five-round classic
08:41and it ended.
08:42For me,
08:42that was my favorite.
08:44Can you just
08:44indulge me for a moment?
08:46What do you remember
08:47from that night?
08:47Because it really felt
08:48like that was the night
08:49that you kind of
08:50arrived on the scene
08:51like, wow,
08:51the WC Lightweights
08:52are as good
08:53as the UFC Lightweights.
08:54This guy is as good.
08:55You know what I mean?
08:56What do you remember
08:56from that night?
08:59First thing I always
09:00popped in the head
09:00for that fight
09:01was Donald's upkick
09:04and I remember thinking
09:05afterwards,
09:06years later,
09:06the upkick's
09:07a dangerous thing.
09:08I could be
09:09an instant fight ender
09:10that changes
09:11the whole course
09:11of yada yada.
09:12Luckily,
09:13he landed the upkick
09:14with about like
09:15seven seconds left
09:16in the fight.
09:17But if that had been
09:18like one minute earlier,
09:19if that would have been
09:19like in the first round,
09:21if that would have been
09:21at any other time
09:22of the fight,
09:23that probably would have been
09:23the end of the fight.
09:25I couldn't have fought
09:26after that.
09:27So that's why
09:27I got the idea
09:28of upkicks
09:28of them being dangerous
09:30weapons,
09:30dangerous things.
09:31That's the first thing
09:32I popped in my head.
09:33The next thing
09:33I popped in my head
09:34about that fight
09:35is that was when
09:36I knew,
09:37because I had done
09:37wrestling my whole career.
09:39I was never,
09:39again,
09:39the best.
09:40I was never the best
09:41technician.
09:41I was never
09:42asked as a strongman.
09:43I was never any of that stuff.
09:45But I always knew
09:46I could win in wrestling
09:47because I was going
09:48to push a pace.
09:48I was going to get
09:49the guy tired.
09:49I could always
09:50sell out
09:53and get my hand raised
09:54knowing that I'm going
09:55to get the other guy
09:56exhausted.
09:56I'm going to get him
09:57so tired.
09:58And I could really
09:59give all of myself.
10:00I can let everything go.
10:01I can give all of myself
10:02in a wrestling match.
10:04I didn't know
10:04if I could do that
10:04in an MMA fight.
10:06I wasn't sure.
10:07I didn't know.
10:08In the Cowboy fight,
10:09I knew that I could
10:10literally give all of me
10:11inside that fight.
10:12I could go out there
10:13and open my heart,
10:14bear my soul.
10:16In the Cowboy fight,
10:18I think I had to do that.
10:19If I would have held
10:20anything back,
10:20if I had any reservations,
10:22if I would have just let
10:22literally all of me
10:23go in that fight,
10:24I would have been
10:25carried out of the cage.
10:26If I would not have to be
10:27carried out of the cage,
10:28I would have lost that fight.
10:30And that fight is where
10:31I realized,
10:31oh, hey,
10:31I can do this in MMA.
10:34I can lay it all out there.
10:36I can bear my soul.
10:38And if I can do it once,
10:40I can do it again
10:41and again and again
10:41and again.
10:42And that's what I knew.
10:43I started to have more
10:44belief in myself that,
10:47hey,
10:47I'm going to win
10:48every single fight
10:49because I can do this.
10:50I'm going to win
10:50every single fight
10:51because I can
10:52bear my soul
10:53and not hold anything back.
10:55What's your favorite fight?
10:58I don't really have a favorite.
11:00You don't?
11:01No.
11:02If anything,
11:03it's always the memories
11:04and what the extra stuff
11:07around the fights.
11:09I'll probably say,
11:09you know,
11:10Gilbert,
11:11San Jose,
11:12being able to propose
11:12to my wife afterwards.
11:14I am a little more
11:15of a private person.
11:16I don't like
11:16being out there
11:18with everything
11:19of my personal life,
11:20you know?
11:20So being able to share
11:21a private moment,
11:24being able to share
11:24something small
11:25and special,
11:26being able to propose
11:27to my wife,
11:27being able to share
11:28on the world,
11:29big stage,
11:30a couple of million
11:30people watching,
11:31that was very special
11:33to me.
11:33That's something
11:33I'm always going to remember
11:34until the day I die,
11:36you know?
11:37Yeah,
11:37these young kids
11:38don't remember you
11:38fighting with a toothpick
11:40and that's like,
11:41it's so long ago now,
11:44it still blows my mind
11:46that against Diaz,
11:48you had the toothpick,
11:49right?
11:49For a lot of fights,
11:52I have a toothpick,
11:53yeah,
11:53for a lot of fights.
11:53It was just a bad habit.
11:55I would literally
11:55go out to lunch
11:57or dinner
11:57or breakfast,
11:58whatever,
11:59and you have a toothpick
12:00in a restaurant.
12:01I would just have it in,
12:02I would practice,
12:03I would do whatever.
12:05I'd leave it in for fights.
12:07But after my first kid,
12:11seeing him at two years old,
12:12three years old,
12:12run around with a toothpick
12:13in his mouth
12:14because he sees me
12:15with toothpicks,
12:15I had to cut it out.
12:16Was it hard?
12:17Was it hard to let go of it?
12:20Not as hard as I thought
12:21it would be.
12:21Not as hard as it would.
12:22I just started chewing gum more.
12:23Okay.
12:24I would just,
12:25you know,
12:25instead of a toothpick,
12:26I would just have a piece of gum
12:28so then I started chewing gum
12:29way too much
12:30but it wasn't that hard.
12:32And you never got injured,
12:33right?
12:34With the toothpick.
12:36No.
12:37I never got injured.
12:39I was,
12:40I graduated high school,
12:43I graduated college
12:44and I went home
12:46to surprise my mom
12:48and she was,
12:50I surprised her,
12:52she was coming down the stairs
12:53and I had a toothpick in
12:54like I always do
12:55and I was,
12:57I was a little bit older,
12:58I was mature enough
12:59to realize how dumb that was,
13:01how not smart that was,
13:02how crazy that was
13:03but I scared her
13:04and I swallowed my toothpick.
13:06Oh no.
13:06And she was like,
13:07she was,
13:08she was scared
13:08and I just come down the stairs
13:09and I went,
13:09ha,
13:10or boo
13:10and then I scared my mom,
13:12a little short,
13:13four foot nine,
13:14career woman
13:15and so she was like,
13:16oh,
13:16and then she saw me
13:18swallow my toothpick
13:18and then she got really scared
13:20like then she got like,
13:22the level of frightenedness
13:23on her face was,
13:24it was hilarious
13:25and it was super funny
13:25because I started laughing
13:27as I'm choking on my toothpick,
13:28I started laughing even more
13:29and I swallowed the same thing
13:31but then I,
13:33you know,
13:34I choked her and I was like,
13:34ah,
13:35I was laughing even more
13:36and I ended up swallowing it
13:38and I don't think anything happened.
13:40I don't think there's no permanent damage.
13:41I was like,
13:42am I okay?
13:43Is there anything wrong with me?
13:44I went in the mirror
13:45and checked my mouth out
13:46and I was like,
13:46ah,
13:47I think I'm okay
13:48and my mom would hit me
13:50like,
13:50what are you doing?
13:51Oh my God.
13:54And then you fought with it
13:55like a crazy person.
13:57Unbelievable.
13:57Yeah.
13:58A couple of times,
13:59a couple of times.
13:59Yeah,
13:59a couple of times.
14:01Just a couple other things
14:02I wanted to ask you about.
14:03Is it weird for you
14:04that like you spend more time
14:06with Bellator
14:06than you did in the UFC
14:07but it still feels like
14:08for some bizarre reason
14:09like you're always associate,
14:10maybe because you won the belt there,
14:12even WEC.
14:13Does that blow you?
14:14Like,
14:14are you surprised
14:15when people tell you that
14:16or because I saw someone
14:18share the numbers on Friday
14:19that like the days,
14:20the amount of days
14:21you spent in Bellator
14:22as opposed to UFC
14:22and I was actually
14:23kind of surprised.
14:24I was like,
14:24holy shit,
14:25time has flown.
14:26You were actually in,
14:27you know,
14:28Bellator longer than the UFC.
14:29Yeah.
14:30No,
14:31I think the amount of success
14:32inside WC,
14:34UFC underneath
14:34the Zufa Corporation,
14:36I think I was on,
14:38you know,
14:39UFC put me on Fox
14:41two,
14:42three times.
14:42Yeah.
14:43So whenever you're on,
14:44you know,
14:45like primetime,
14:45primetime television,
14:47on Fox,
14:49like I think a lot more
14:50of my like bigger fan base
14:52came from those,
14:53you know,
14:54that Fox exposure,
14:55you know,
14:55and even now still replays,
14:57they see Fox like,
14:58oh,
14:58it's like a,
14:59you know,
14:59bigger,
15:00big,
15:01bigger platform,
15:02whatever.
15:02But I think that has to do
15:03with a lot of it
15:04and then the success
15:05to having the belts,
15:06never had the belt in Bellator,
15:07I fought for three times
15:08in Bellator,
15:08but I never had the belt.
15:09So I think,
15:10I think that plays into it
15:11a little bit.
15:11Yeah.
15:12I saw you get emotional
15:15on Friday night
15:16talking about Mike Hogan
15:17in particular.
15:18Was it Mike Hogan
15:19or was it everything?
15:20I mean,
15:20I know Mike,
15:21he's not exactly a teddy bear,
15:23lovely guy,
15:23but like a real straight shooter.
15:26Why,
15:26why did you get emotional
15:27in that moment?
15:28Uh,
15:29Mike's a good guy.
15:30I think it was Mike,
15:31but I think it was all of it.
15:32I think Mike,
15:33uh,
15:34for me,
15:34captured,
15:35uh,
15:36just a moment,
15:37everything.
15:38Uh,
15:38but he's,
15:38he's been an awesome guy.
15:39He,
15:39he's a great guy.
15:40He is a straight shooter.
15:42He'll tell you if he doesn't like you,
15:44he won't,
15:44he won't sugarcoat it too much either.
15:46No,
15:46I don't really like you.
15:47You're kind of annoying.
15:48I've,
15:48I've literally heard him say to people,
15:49I was like,
15:50oh,
15:51Mike,
15:51that's a,
15:52kind of brutal.
15:53Like,
15:53yeah,
15:53that's kind of brutal.
15:55He probably could have sugarcoated that a little bit,
15:57man.
15:58Uh,
15:58but if he doesn't like you,
16:00he'll,
16:00he'll tell you.
16:00It's not that big a deal.
16:02Um,
16:03but yeah,
16:04I have a great relationship with Mike.
16:06Um,
16:06he has helped me out a lot.
16:08Uh,
16:08a couple,
16:10you know,
16:10words of wisdom,
16:12just,
16:12you know,
16:12drop a sentence here,
16:13drop a sentence there.
16:14And it was profound to me.
16:15It clicked.
16:16It made sense.
16:17Um,
16:18I think,
16:18I think he's just a great guy.
16:19I do love him to death.
16:20And he's helped me,
16:21helped me out a lot,
16:22uh,
16:23through all the,
16:24my entire time through,
16:25through Bellator.
16:26He was my main contact.
16:28Um,
16:28a lot of tears on Friday.
16:30Like when you,
16:30when you went back to the hotel,
16:32when you were with your family,
16:33was there,
16:34you know,
16:34was it emotional?
16:36Uh,
16:37I would,
16:38I would say,
16:38more tears reading all the text messages.
16:41I got,
16:41you know,
16:42a thousand text messages,
16:43uh,
16:43reading all the,
16:44uh,
16:45uh,
16:45messages online.
16:46I,
16:46I,
16:46I do the online stuff too much,
16:48but I peruse online real quick a little bit.
16:51Uh,
16:51but man,
16:52like the,
16:53all the messages from my buddies,
16:54from,
16:54from people I love,
16:55people I care about.
16:56I had some strangers,
16:58not,
16:58not strangers,
16:59but people I,
16:59I didn't really know.
17:00I didn't expect such deep and kind words from.
17:04I was like,
17:05Oh,
17:06uh,
17:07okay.
17:09Okay.
17:10Uh,
17:10so yeah,
17:11it was,
17:11it was,
17:11uh,
17:12well,
17:12there was a good amount,
17:13a good amount of tears.
17:14I'd say Friday night.
17:15Um,
17:16but I don't know.
17:18I don't think it's to be expected.
17:20Yeah,
17:20of course.
17:20I think it was okay.
17:21No,
17:22it was cool to see all the love that you were getting,
17:23the respect,
17:24especially from the fellow fighters.
17:25Was there one really unexpected one that hit you right in the heart that you,
17:28you mind sharing?
17:30Uh,
17:31there were a bunch of them,
17:32man.
17:32I got like,
17:33just from like fighters,
17:34UFC,
17:36former UFC,
17:37Bellator,
17:37former Bellator fighters,
17:38just from like,
17:39maybe like 30 or so messages from,
17:41from different fighters.
17:42Wow.
17:43And a lot of them,
17:44like I just feel,
17:45I wouldn't really expect to hold me in such high esteem to have,
17:50uh,
17:50such,
17:51you know,
17:51nice things to say about me and,
17:52and how much I meant to them and yeah,
17:54that,
17:54yeah,
17:54like that kind of stuff.
17:55Like,
17:55oh man,
17:55it was deep.
17:57Yeah.
17:57I appreciate it,
17:58dog.
17:58Thank you for the,
17:59you know,
17:59I appreciate the words,
18:00appreciate the kind of words that that means a lot to me.
18:02Thank you that they would,
18:03you know,
18:03go out of the way and take two minutes to send me a message.
18:06Even,
18:06you know,
18:06that it means a lot.
18:08Yeah,
18:08for sure.
18:08Uh,
18:09do you care about this?
18:10Do you want to be in the UFC hall of fame?
18:13Would that mean something to you?
18:16Uh,
18:17uh,
18:19I would definitely appreciate it.
18:21Uh,
18:21my man said,
18:22if you live for the acceptance,
18:26you're going to die from their,
18:27from their rejection.
18:29So while it would be nice to have that,
18:32like any sort of accolade you get,
18:33like,
18:33it's cool.
18:34It's nice.
18:34It's awesome.
18:35Like,
18:35it's not bad at all.
18:36It shows that people,
18:38uh,
18:38the organization that they appreciate,
18:40what you've done and what you've accomplished,
18:42but at the same time,
18:43it's not something that you should live for.
18:44It's not something that you should,
18:45uh,
18:47be all about.
18:48If they don't give it to you,
18:49then it's going to,
18:50it's going to eat you up.
18:51You'll,
18:51you'll die from the rejection.
18:52So,
18:52uh,
18:53I think that,
18:54you know,
18:54if I ever work to get in the UFC hall of fame,
18:57that'd be awesome.
18:58I'm going to,
18:58I am all about it.
18:59That'd be great.
19:00Show up there in a suit and tie and say,
19:01thank you guys,
19:02you know,
19:02that kind of stuff.
19:03Uh,
19:03but it's not something I'm going to campaign for.
19:06It's not something that,
19:07you know,
19:07I'm going to hold out on and cross my fingers,
19:11hold my breath,
19:11that type of thing,
19:12you know,
19:12but yeah,
19:13for sure.
19:13I would have much respect,
19:15much appreciation for,
19:16for,
19:17for that kind of,
19:17uh,
19:18acknowledgement.
19:19I'll campaign for it.
19:20You should be in there.
19:21If,
19:22if my vote mattered,
19:23it doesn't,
19:24uh,
19:24I would,
19:25uh,
19:25I would campaign for you.
19:26You should a hundred percent.
19:26You don't vote for the,
19:27who,
19:27who,
19:28who votes for the UFC hall of fame,
19:29by the way,
19:29there is no vote.
19:30Is there a,
19:31there's no vote.
19:32No,
19:33it's just them.
19:34Just,
19:35just the one,
19:35the one,
19:36just the one guy.
19:37Yeah,
19:37pretty much.
19:38Maybe a couple other people weigh in,
19:39but,
19:39uh,
19:40yeah,
19:40I mean,
19:40that's why there's some people who aren't in,
19:42and you know,
19:43some people are faster,
19:44you know,
19:44who,
19:44who,
19:45who would you say is the biggest,
19:46uh,
19:46snub?
19:47No.
19:48Yeah.
19:48Who's the,
19:48who's the biggest.
19:49That should be in the hall of him right now.
19:51Probably Frank Shamrock.
19:54You know,
19:54it was,
19:55it was,
19:55Frank's not in there,
19:55huh?
19:56Frank's not in there.
19:56Frank's not in there.
19:56Frank's.
19:57Yeah.
19:57He's a legend.
19:58Uh,
19:58Jen's.
19:59I,
19:59I,
19:59I saw him.
20:00I met him for the first time.
20:01I shook his hand for the first time when Fader fought,
20:04uh,
20:05Vader the last time.
20:06I geeked out.
20:07I got my phone.
20:08I took a selfie.
20:09I was like,
20:09Frank,
20:09I never do this.
20:10I'm not,
20:10I'm not that kind of guy.
20:12I love you.
20:13I shook his hand.
20:13I took a selfie with him.
20:15I love,
20:15I'm a huge,
20:15huge Frank Shamrock.
20:16Yeah.
20:17Um,
20:17I wish he wasn't in there.
20:19A pioneer,
20:19but you know,
20:20like Jen's just got in,
20:21he should have been in a long time ago.
20:23And now it gets a little weird because there's like,
20:25you know,
20:26these young,
20:26you know,
20:26obviously DC and Habib,
20:28those are hall of famers,
20:29but them getting in before an Anderson is weird to me.
20:33And Anderson Silva,
20:33like Anderson's not in there.
20:34You know,
20:35that seems a little bit strange.
20:37So he's not in the hall of famer.
20:39No,
20:39no,
20:40no,
20:40no,
20:40no,
20:40no,
20:42no,
20:42no,
20:42no,
20:42no,
20:42no,
20:42no,
20:42no,
20:43no,
20:43no,
20:43no,
20:43no,
20:43no,
20:43no,
20:43no,
20:43no,
20:43no,
20:43no,
20:44no,
20:44no,
20:44no,
20:44no,
20:44no,
20:44no,
20:44no,
20:44no,
20:44no,
20:44no,
20:44no,
20:44no,
20:44no,
20:44no,
20:45it's a weird thing.
20:46So you're going to transition now to your wife.
20:48Your wife is going for this.
20:49Like,
20:50she's not just like,
20:50I'm going to pop up here.
20:51Like she wants to go and make a career out of this.
20:53She's going to go on a run.
20:55She,
20:56she wants to make a career,
20:57but she wants to be the best one 15 pattern on the planet.
20:59There's for me,
21:01for us,
21:02we don't fight for,
21:04for fun.
21:04We don't fight for celebrity.
21:07We don't fight to be famous.
21:08We don't fight for,
21:09we don't fight for money.
21:10I wanted to fight for money.
21:11I still fight for Bellator.
21:13I got,
21:13there's no way better way to prove it and say,
21:15I don't fight for money.
21:15I don't fight for money.
21:17I have two more fights on Bellator cards.
21:18Like I make another good amount of money.
21:21I don't,
21:21I don't fight for money.
21:22My wife doesn't fight for money.
21:23We fight to be the best on the planet.
21:26Once I really,
21:26you know,
21:27came to the realization that,
21:29Hey,
21:29I'm probably not going to fight for the belt again.
21:31And you know,
21:31I'm good.
21:33My wife is the same way.
21:34She wants to be the best on the planet and she's going to get there.
21:37And I'm going to,
21:37I'm going to help her every step of the way.
21:39I love it.
21:40Well,
21:40I wish you guys the best.
21:41Good luck.
21:42Congrats,
21:42man.
21:43Congrats on a great career.
21:44I always get a little emotional when,
21:46when,
21:46when guys from your era say goodbye,
21:48because you know,
21:50you were the ones that spoke to me when no one,
21:52you know,
21:52like we kind of came up together and you were always very great and always
21:56gracious with your time.
21:57And it was amazing covering your fights.
21:58It really was an honor and a privilege.
22:00All your fights were great.
22:00So much love and respect to you.
22:03And,
22:03and I'm glad to hear you're still going to be around.
22:04And I can't wait to see what your wife does as well.
