00:00No, Europe is not selling anti-rape underwear.
00:07Far-right figures and other social media users are sharing a clip which they wrongly claim
00:12shows a new European-developed brand of anti-rape underwear.
00:16The ex-posts, such as this one by British far-right activist Tommy Robinson,
00:21attempt to whip up xenophobic sentiment by suggesting that Europe is bringing in the
00:25underwear to protect women from immigrants, rather than closing its borders or stopping
00:30migration from the third world. It says that the underwear was developed in the US and that a
00:35German company has launched similar products. In the corner of the video, we can see a logo for
00:41ARwear. A Google search of the company leads us to a page on the American crowdfunding website
00:47Indiegogo. We can see that ARwear launched a campaign in 2013 to eventually produce the
00:52underwear, amassing just under $55,000 in donations, but it's now closed. The company last posted an
01:00update in 2016, in which it outlined difficulties in the manufacturing process, and internet users
01:06have repeatedly posted unanswered comments in recent years, suggesting the product was never
01:10released to the public. We can also find the full original version of the clip posted on X.
01:16The Spanish subtitles in the smaller clip appear to originate from Spanish-language video service
01:21VIX, as we can see an older version of its logo in the top right corner. As for the German company
01:27mentioned in the clip, another Google search takes us to various articles written in 2017 and 2018
01:33about SafeShorts, a brand of anti-rape shorts created by a woman in Germany. The pictures of the
01:39product match the ones from the German company shown in the clip, but the Cube was unable to track
01:44down any website or contact details for the company suggesting that they're no longer available.
