00:00Former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte will remain in detention in The Hague following a unanimous ruling by the International Criminal Court.
00:08The Appeals Chamber has rejected his appeal for interim release while the investigation into his government's war on drugs or illegal drugs continues.
00:18The court dismissed all three grounds put forward by Mr. Duterte's legal team, his humanitarian claims, legal objections, and procedural arguments.
00:27The Appeals Chamber appell the pre-trial chamber's finding that Mr. Duterte poses a risk under Article 58.1b of the Rome Statute,
00:37including the potential to compromise the preservation of evidence, the integrity of proceedings, and his attendance at future hearings.
00:46It also confirmed that the pre-trial chamber was right to reject the guarantees offered by the state willing to receive him,
00:52as these did not adequately ensure compliance with ICC conditions.
00:58The court further ruled that the pre-trial chamber had appropriately considered humanitarian grounds
01:03and that the arguments presented by the defense were insufficient to justify interim release or any conditional liberty.
01:12The Appeals Chamber stressed that the defense's claims did not meet the required threshold for temporary release,
01:19particularly given the need to protect the integrity of the proceedings,
01:24preserve evidence, and secure the accused appearance at subsequent hearings.
