00:00to prove that cricket wasn't just for the elite.
00:02It's who this, isn't it?
00:04By creating a team like no other in his hometown of Preston.
00:07What has he got us wearing?
00:09Well, that's a shot, man.
00:10Over the course of a turbulent season...
00:12Seriously, I'm getting off with you.
00:14..and an overseas cricket tour to India...
00:16We're all going to find out something about ourselves, me included.
00:19Freddie changed the lives of his unlikely team in more ways than one.
00:23We can do this, all right? Yeah.
00:25We're all here for you.
00:26Inspired by the success of the lads from Preston...
00:29Are you messing?
00:31Freddie now wants to see if he can expand the project...
00:33That's a shot.
00:34..and begin a Field of Dreams cricket league...
00:36That's safe, yeah.
00:37Yeah, get a sense out of your depth.
00:39..with the hope of reaching even more kids across the UK.
00:42No, no, no, no, no!
00:43Not one bit of that is fun of.
00:45So far, he's started to build a girls' team in Blackpool...
00:49I see why my mum fancies Freddie.
00:52Why?
00:54No, no, no, no!
00:55..and a struggle to control his boys' team in Liverpool.
00:59Oi, oi, oi, oi, oi!
01:01You can't do that. Seriously, you can't do that.
01:03But despite the challenges, Freddie threw them into their first-ever cricket match...
01:07What a small thing!
01:09Right!
01:10..which they lost to the lads from Preston.
01:13What happened there?
01:14If we can just keep him engaged, then he's got a chance.
01:19But it could all fall apart just as quick.
01:27Plan for tonight.
01:28Everyone will bowl, everyone will bat.
01:30Yeah?
01:31Yeah.
01:31With two clubs already on the go,
01:35Kyle is running tonight's training session in Liverpool.
01:38Oi, do you two want to get your pants on?
01:41Why have you got your jacket on?
01:42It's not going to give you any extra protection.
01:44Need a bigger coat, you lad.
01:45What I've seen on the training pitch...
01:54..the boys have got some naughty potential.
02:00We're definitely different to your average cricket team.
02:03Right, Stevie, do you want to bat next?
02:05Yeah.
02:06Just the best, aren't we?
02:08No-one's like us.
02:09What do we need to wear?
02:11Get all the pants, gloves, everything on.
02:14Have you got a box?
02:16Definitely need one of them on.
02:18**** that cup.
02:20If I ever get this in the balls,
02:21then it'll be in the **** feel like that.
02:24Stepping up to face the hardball
02:26is 16-year-old Stevie,
02:28who's choosing to follow his own rules
02:30by not wearing all of the protective kit.
02:33You're in!
02:35Stevie's going to whack this one.
02:39That's why he wears a cup.
02:45Do you have a cup in, Stevie?
02:47It doesn't look like it, that one.
02:48Why's he not got a box on?
02:50He's got tools to put all the kit on.
02:52Oh, ****.
02:53Did you get it in the dick?
02:55Yeah.
02:57Oh, my kids aren't going to be happy in the future, you know.
03:02Right, get a tennis racket, get a ball,
03:05you go and take the lads for some catching practice.
03:07Right, put the cricket balls on the floor.
03:10Stevie, Stevie!
03:13It's hard work tonight.
03:15I think after the game,
03:17I thought they'd come with, like,
03:19a good attitude, wanting to try and get better,
03:22and it just shows out when
03:23Ryan and Stevie are not interested,
03:26it just brings the whole group down.
03:29No, no, Stevie!
03:31What are you doing?
03:32This is so much effort, lads.
03:34Everyone's fans are a bit boring,
03:36coming back to doing normal training.
03:38I think everyone wants to get back to playing games
03:40against other people,
03:41because I think they find that more enjoyable.
03:44Oof.
03:45You want to help them get them better, but...
03:47Oh!
03:48You know, if they're not interested,
03:50you're just banging your head against a brick wall.
03:51I've missed you.
03:52Thank you, I've missed you, mate.
03:53Good to see you again.
03:54I'm due.
03:55After a successful try-out session,
04:11Freddie's girls' team have started training
04:13at South Shore Cricket Club.
04:15You seem energetic, I look for it.
04:17I get a car!
04:18Girls!
04:19With word of a new team in the area spreading,
04:23more players are turning up for practice.
04:26Hi, Maddie!
04:27We've got a new girl tonight, Maddie.
04:29Has everyone met Maddie?
04:30Yeah, mate.
04:31Molly, are you already getting terrorised?
04:32How do you know each other?
04:34School.
04:34School?
04:35Worst luck.
04:37Yeah.
04:37Yeah, there's a bit of history here, I think.
04:39I just don't like her.
04:42I've never liked her to be far.
04:44Maddie!
04:45Come on, shall we go and have her back?
04:47LAUGHTER
04:47Yes!
04:49Yes, bro!
04:50Oh, this is waddling!
04:51That's funny!
04:53Oh, my God!
04:54Ah!
04:56Ah!
04:59Do you want to take this one, Kyle?
05:00No, that's you.
05:00That's one.
05:01Batting coach.
05:02It's not the easiest coaching.
05:04I'm not the type of coaching I'm used to.
05:05Keep your eye on it.
05:06Watch your eyes.
05:07Here you go.
05:07Up.
05:08Yes, Molly!
05:09APPLAUSE
05:09Run, Molly!
05:12Run!
05:12Not sure when they're going to play against sides or when we can step it up, but they're keen, aren't they?
05:18That's the biggest thing, and they're smiling and enjoying it.
05:20Can't ask for it much more than that.
05:23I'm scared to run at knees.
05:25As long as they're doing that, we've got a chance.
05:30What are you doing?
05:31Shut up.
05:34Cut, knees!
05:34Gloves are giving me weird feelings.
05:36New girl, 17-year-old Maddy, has grown up in Blackpool and has lived in care since the age of 11.
05:44I'm scared.
05:45What do I do?
05:49Oh, that one!
05:52So, currently, I'm not in no education.
05:54I'm not working.
05:56I did have a job, but I quit that because I didn't like it.
06:00Because if I like something, I'll stick to it, but if I know I don't like it, yeah, I'm gone.
06:04Yes, Maddy.
06:08Oh, great!
06:09Yes!
06:12Maddy, that's amazing.
06:13Are you sure you've not done this before?
06:14No.
06:15Josh.
06:16I'm being serious.
06:16Seriously?
06:17Yeah.
06:18Natural.
06:20Come on, Mad.
06:22Oh, this.
06:25Go!
06:25I need your back.
06:26I need your back.
06:27No, someone else can have that.
06:29Pissing me off.
06:30Can't hit the ball.
06:31I can get irritated really fast if I can't do something right, and if it doesn't go my way.
06:39It takes time to get used to.
06:41Someone else go back for a minute.
06:44My confidence goes down because I just don't believe in myself.
06:51Maddy.
06:52Give us a minute, please.
06:53I've been in care since the age of 11, and I think because of the way I've grown up,
07:01I'm very cautious about letting people in.
07:05You've just got to leave me alone, and just, I'll be back.
07:10You obviously play a bit of sport, don't you?
07:13What did you do?
07:14Football.
07:14Who for?
07:16Blackpool.
07:17Did you?
07:17In Lancashire.
07:18Really?
07:19Yeah.
07:19What, still?
07:20No, gave up without.
07:21Why?
07:22Got bored of it.
07:23So, what do you do then?
07:24Nothing.
07:26Sleep.
07:26Eat.
07:27School?
07:27No.
07:28You don't go to school?
07:30Got kicked out of it.
07:32For what?
07:32Messing about.
07:34What type of stuff?
07:35Mess, just calling teacher names and everything.
07:38Really?
07:38I'm not going to lessons, scything.
07:39So, what do you want to do?
07:42I don't know.
07:43Do you want to play football?
07:44No.
07:45Now you're done with that?
07:45Yeah.
07:47Enjoy being around the girls?
07:49Yeah, it's been all right.
07:50All right.
07:52Meeting new people.
07:53Not a big fan of it, mate.
07:55Can't lie.
07:57Yeah.
08:00Nice conversation.
08:01Yeah.
08:02Not giving me much, are you?
08:04No.
08:04No?
08:05Bit too awkward yet.
08:06Really?
08:07Leave it for another day.
08:09Come here, Maddy.
08:12Put your front foot here.
08:13I think she's got real potential.
08:16So, with this one, point where you want it to go.
08:19And as that comes down, just bring that other one straight over.
08:22It's obvious she's played sport before.
08:23And she's kicking the ball around, doing keep-ups with cricket balls.
08:27Oh, ****.
08:28It just seems like she's got no real direction.
08:31Hopefully we can help her with that.
08:34Oh, this is heavy.
08:35You know what?
08:36Maybe through this, we can inspire her to get back into sport.
08:39You ready for it to go over there?
08:41Yeah.
08:41OK.
08:42Stand there.
08:44Molly.
08:44Come on, Maddy.
08:45Keep going.
08:46Molly.
08:47Because if she smacks the ball...
08:48If she hits it and you're still there, it'll hurt you.
08:52Diddons.
08:53You're just not too cocky.
08:55Prick.
08:56Wanker.
08:57Yeah, I already knew her.
08:58I think it'll be quite interesting to see how me and Maddy get on
09:03over the next couple of weeks.
09:05Right.
09:06Come on.
09:07In we come.
09:10How are we all feeling about the girls' team?
09:13Enjoy that?
09:14It was all right.
09:14It was all right?
09:15You all right?
09:15Yeah.
09:17I can see the new Maddy and Molly clashing.
09:20You could tell there was something going on.
09:22Yeah.
09:22I think they're fighting for top spot, aren't they?
09:24Yeah.
09:24All right, there's a couple of problems.
09:26But I can see how this club could be the start of something quite good.
09:31Yeah.
09:32And hopefully, for women's cricket in the wider area,
09:35keep coming, keep improving, organise some games,
09:38keep practising, keep working hard.
09:41They're willing to listen, they're willing to learn,
09:43so I think we've got a chance for these girls.
09:45Right.
09:46Well done, well done.
09:47Everyone, let's tidy up.
09:50So far, we're in good shape.
09:52We've got a boys team in Bootle who've played the first match
09:54and done all right.
09:56We've got the girls team in Blackpool,
09:58but I want to do another one.
10:01I want to do a third team.
10:03How nice would it be
10:04if we could get all the teams playing against each other?
10:09I don't know if I'm a pioneer or I'm stupid.
10:12But we'll find out, aren't we?
10:16On the hunt for a third club to add to his cricket league,
10:19Freddie's heading to his adopted hometown of Manchester.
10:22The reason for three is we did one and we showed that could work.
10:26And moving forward, if we do three and we get them right,
10:31we've created somewhat of a blueprint,
10:32which can be carried forward to anywhere in the country.
10:36Irrespective of your postcode or how much money you've got
10:40or what your parents are to do, cricket should be for everyone.
10:46Four miles north-east of the city centre,
10:49Newton Heath has a rich sporting history,
10:51with its football club going on to become the world-famous Manchester United.
10:55Established in 1859,
11:00Newton Heath Cricket Club used to be the hub of the community,
11:04hosting famous sporting legends,
11:06with the likes of Sir Bobby Charlton even playing on its ground.
11:10But over the last few years,
11:12the 165-year-old club has seen a steady decline in interest.
11:17Oh, aye.
11:18He's in a terrible stare.
11:19And its ground has been left to rack and ruin.
11:22Doesn't really look like a cricket club, does it?
11:24As it stands now, it just looks a mess, doesn't it?
11:31Fred is meeting Graham, the team captain,
11:33who's been struggling to keep the club afloat.
11:36So what teams have you got now?
11:38Just one.
11:39One senior team.
11:40Just one senior?
11:40No youth, no women's, yeah, just a one.
11:42No kids?
11:43No kids.
11:44There's not been a kids' team since probably about 2000s, early 2000s.
11:49Yeah.
11:49Oh.
11:50Yeah.
11:51Not one, not like a...
11:52So no kids come down here and play on a Friday night or...?
11:56No.
11:57No?
11:58No, nothing.
11:59How many members you got?
12:00We've got about nine or ten.
12:02It's not a team, that.
12:03Not a team.
12:04Do you feel you've done well to get...
12:05Yeah.
12:06...keep it open?
12:07Are you sure there's your hands?
12:08Yeah, yeah.
12:08So this is our main function room.
12:11Yeah.
12:13Seen better days, but, yeah.
12:15Not too many weddings in here at the minute.
12:16Not in a minute.
12:18So if you come through, we've got cobwebs.
12:21Yeah.
12:21You've got cobwebs.
12:22The changing rooms.
12:24No electricity.
12:26Electricity being cut off?
12:27Partly for danger.
12:28Yeah.
12:29Cost as well.
12:29Yeah.
12:32Yeah, there's water there.
12:34You're on the floor.
12:35Oh, aye.
12:35And then through here, we go off.
12:39This gets a bit more real.
12:41So we've got showers, toilets, as you can see.
12:44Oh, wow, look at this.
12:50It's a job, isn't it?
12:52Yeah.
12:52It needs money, and do it not?
12:55Not if I want to, but should we go and have a look at the ground?
12:57Yeah, can do.
13:01Well, you come from this, like, it's a big place, isn't it?
13:03Oh, it's massive, yeah, yeah.
13:04It's one of the biggest grounds in the Northwest.
13:07I can kind of picture what it could be.
13:09He was immaculate.
13:10You know, he's one of the best wickets in the league.
13:12He had crowds all around.
13:14You know, it was thriving.
13:17I'm guessing, looking around here, there's a load of houses and things,
13:21but these people aren't engaged in coming here.
13:24No.
13:25No.
13:25So, as it stands now, then, there's nothing happening?
13:30No.
13:31Unless there's an injection or something, that's how it's going to stay.
13:33That's how it's going to stay.
13:36It's not nice to see, is it?
13:38It's a place where kids should be coming and playing,
13:42and it should be the hub of the community.
13:44But you look at it, and you can understand why people aren't coming, can't you?
13:48The doors are shut, the gates are locked.
13:50There's no pitch.
13:51There's no teams.
13:52But it's really sad.
13:55In the city of cricket, it's dying, isn't it?
13:57And we've got to do something, don't we?
14:01Because if something's not done very quickly,
14:04this place is going to disappear like a lot of others.
14:08And when you put it in those terms, it's hard not to try, isn't it?
14:11And have a good crack at it.
14:13Imagine what I'd turn around this would be for a local area.
14:21If Freddie has any chance of saving the club,
14:23he needs support from the local community.
14:25I'd have to go to old school here, haven't I?
14:28I'd knock on doors and walk around the streets and drum up support.
14:32You know, we want to do it.
14:32We want to get a cricket club thriving again.
14:34We want people coming down, we want kids playing.
14:36But it'll be dictated by if that's what the people around this place want.
14:42Hiya.
14:43Hi.
14:43Sorry to bother you. I'm Fred.
14:45I'm doing some work at the cricket club behind at Newton Heath.
14:49I'm just trying to get people in the local community coming out
14:51and helping us clear it up a bit, because it's in a bit of a state.
14:54I'm not surprised.
14:56Nothing's gone on there for such a long time.
14:58I don't think anybody's given it any second thought.
15:01Well, I wish you every look in the world.
15:03Hopefully we'll see you down there.
15:04We'll get you down there at some point.
15:05You never know.
15:06This whole project depends on the community.
15:10Getting involved and wanting that cricket club to do well.
15:13I just have to keep trying, wouldn't I?
15:15Just keep knocking.
15:17Hiya.
15:18I'm doing some work at Newton Heath Cricket Club.
15:20Try to get all the teams going, get the cricket club back.
15:22Have you got any kids here who'd be interested in playing cricket?
15:25Yeah, I've got 15-year-olds.
15:26Well, bring him down.
15:27Yeah.
15:28Thanks very much.
15:28See you later.
15:29See you.
15:29See you.
15:29We need players.
15:33I just hope there's some sort of appetite.
15:37What's she on the bag there?
15:38You're just doing all right, aren't you?
15:38Yeah.
15:39You're from Newton Heath, eh?
15:40Yeah.
15:40I'm trying to get kids from this area playing cricket.
15:44I don't think it's a good idea.
15:45No one's going to go.
15:47Are you all right?
15:47I want to get that club going again.
15:49I'm going to get teams.
15:50I'm going to get it thriving.
15:51Do you think it could work?
15:53No.
15:53No?
15:54No.
15:54Why?
15:55This is boring.
15:56It's just dawning on me, actually, the magnitude of what we're trying to do and how big a scale.
16:02And this is just one of them.
16:03This is Newton Heath.
16:04We're going to boot them in Blackpool as well.
16:06But I do like a challenge.
16:08But is this one that I've bitten a bit too much off here?
16:12I do, right?
16:13No problem.
16:13You're following me, mate.
16:14You and Fred.
16:14It's over there, yeah.
16:15Yeah, I'm Fred.
16:16Nice to meet you.
16:16You all right?
16:16Yeah, show me.
16:18Show.
16:19You're going to cut me off now, aren't you?
16:20Oh, here we go.
16:21He's going off now.
16:22He's going to burn me, isn't he?
16:24You're in the cricket club back here.
16:26Yeah.
16:27I'm trying to get it going again.
16:30It's got a lot of history behind it, but in recent years, it's just gone to the dogs.
16:33Yeah, it has, yeah.
16:33Well, you've got Michael Abbott, who's captain of England.
16:36Yeah, I've played with him, yeah.
16:37And I used to play there.
16:38Yeah.
16:38So.
16:40Oh, yeah, you and Ed's cricket.
16:41Yeah, I used to play a bit, yeah.
16:43OK, that's good.
16:44We're doing a clear-up if you fancy getting some fresh air.
16:47I'm going to go and start clearing it up a bit.
16:49Think about that.
16:49No, you're going to stick to your snooker and a pint.
16:52All right, I'll leave you to it.
16:53Cheers, lad.
16:53It looks like it's shut.
16:55No one knows anything about it.
16:57Hopefully through word of mouth it'll start spreading.
16:59Yeah.
17:00Thanks so much.
17:00I'll see you later.
17:01See you later, bud.
17:03It's a real reality check, you know, because it's gone well recently.
17:07And now we're just diving back in, even deeper.
17:12You know, he said, if they build it, they'll come.
17:14Something like that, innit?
17:16At the minute, we're not built now and no one's coming.
17:17It's a real reality check, you know, it's a real reality check.
17:22It's a real reality check.
17:23It's a real reality check.
17:23It's a real reality check.
17:24It's a real reality check.
17:25It's a real reality check.
17:25With Freddie and Manchester, 50 miles away in Blackpool,
17:29England cricketer Kate Cross is back to help Kyle
17:32try and train the girls into a match-ready team.
17:36I think tonight, maybe introduce a hard ball.
17:38What do you reckon?
17:39It'll be interesting to see how they cope with that.
17:41Because I know a lot of females get put off from cricket
17:43when it goes from softball to hardball.
17:45But if we're going to play some games,
17:47they're going to actually have to get used to a hard ball
17:49at some point.
17:50Right, Connor.
17:52Why did I lose my...
17:54It's OK, if you must.
17:54Well, my dreams will be green.
17:56But my lips will be red.
17:58I have four each.
18:00Well, these are the actual ones.
18:02It is hard.
18:02Do not throw this at somebody, whatever you do.
18:05It is hard.
18:06The first girls to face the hard ball
18:08are both newcomers to the game.
18:1017-year-old Maddie and 16-year-old Summer.
18:14Helmets, you need helmets.
18:15Can we have everyone watching the balls, please?
18:22Are you ready, kids?
18:24And if you get hit, you get hurt.
18:26Oh, no.
18:27Here we go.
18:31Oh!
18:33Ooh.
18:34OK.
18:36Mumma just got hit with a ball.
18:38You all right?
18:39Quite bad, actually.
18:40That was horrendous.
18:42No, no, I've been, that's nasty.
18:43You all right?
18:45Dangerous.
18:46It'll hurt for, like, 30 more seconds
18:48and then it goes.
18:51She got hit with a ball.
18:53No!
18:53I don't want to play.
18:56My leg hurts.
18:57I don't want to play.
18:58Ooh!
19:02I'm not playing.
19:04You all right, Summer?
19:06Just a bit of a sting.
19:08The first one's always the worst.
19:10Mm.
19:12Go on, then.
19:13These hard balls, oh, my God, they hurt.
19:17They hurt.
19:18Even catching it hurts.
19:23Um, yeah, maybe, I mean,
19:25I think we had to introduce a cricket ball to them
19:27just so they knew what it is.
19:30Don't hit me!
19:32Ah!
19:34Too fast on me.
19:35Too fast.
19:36If we're going to play a game,
19:37we're going to use a hard ball,
19:38so it's a tough one to know what to do, really.
19:40Don't kill me!
19:44Don't want to die today!
19:47Um, might have to rethink our...
19:48..rethink how we're going to approach it for next session.
19:53Summer!
19:55Hey, girly.
19:56What you doing?
19:58What you doing?
20:02Can you come and join me back, please?
20:04No.
20:04Please?
20:05No.
20:05Just bowling without you.
20:06I've got pay a chance to take.
20:08Well, we can do some bowling together.
20:10No.
20:11Bowling.
20:11It's not hurting.
20:12I'm good.
20:14Come and join.
20:18Come on, you're doing well, aren't you?
20:20No, you actually are, Summer.
20:23Come on.
20:25Me and Kyle or Freddie can say whatever we think's the right thing,
20:28but actually, if it comes from each other
20:30or comes from one of their teammates,
20:32they seem to listen a little bit more.
20:34I feel like the camaraderie in the team
20:36is actually what's going to drag them along.
20:39People, on three, two, one, we're all going to cheer.
20:50Three, two, one.
20:54Yay!
20:57Summer!
20:59Come on, Summer.
21:00Come on.
21:01Come on.
21:04Come on, Summer, mate.
21:05You've got this.
21:05I'm doing one ball, and that's it, right?
21:07Come on, you've got it.
21:08I'm doing one ball.
21:09You've got it.
21:13Well done.
21:14Well done, then.
21:15You brought her back from the dead.
21:16I know, mate.
21:17That was brilliant.
21:17What did you say to her?
21:19I don't know.
21:20I actually don't know.
21:22That's it.
21:23Bring the stomps in.
21:30Blah, blah, blah.
21:31Blah, blah.
21:33Watch the dog shit.
21:34Shut up, you absolute muppet.
21:46Absolute **** hole.
21:48It's never a dull day on Grange, is it?
21:50No.
21:51You stormed off, didn't you?
21:53Yeah, I had my moment.
21:58Because I thought I didn't want to do it,
22:00but at the same time, I do want to do it.
22:01Well, what's the main reason why you don't want to do it?
22:04It's just, like, really, like, boost my energy down.
22:08Knocked your confidence.
22:09Yeah, that would.
22:11I don't know if I do want to go back,
22:13but obviously, it'd more...
22:15It'll be the fact of letting Freddie down.
22:19Letting your emotions win more, like.
22:21Yeah.
22:27With confidence affecting the girls in Blackpool,
22:30in Manchester,
22:32where Freddie is hoping to create a third team,
22:34there's been some good news.
22:36Are you all right, pal?
22:37How are you? Thanks for coming.
22:38You're all right, thank you.
22:39Thanks for coming.
22:41After weeks of spreading the word
22:43about his plan to restore Newton Heath Cricket Club,
22:46some of the local community have turned up to help out.
22:50It's the start, isn't it?
22:51Everyone's just getting involved and mucking in.
22:56Makes you think, actually,
22:57we're doing something that people want.
22:59But despite progress being made outside...
23:01Good to see you, Fred.
23:03...one of the longest-serving members of the club,
23:05John is keen to show Freddie
23:07that things have got even worse inside.
23:10Oh, wow, look at this.
23:11This is the kitchen area now,
23:14which you can see the water egresses.
23:17I'm not sure that's going to get to help and safety.
23:18No.
23:19I don't think you can cook in there.
23:20No.
23:20Oh, man, look at it.
23:22So...
23:23Has this just happened at past three weeks?
23:24Well, this is a...
23:24Yeah, it's a...
23:25A bit of weather.
23:25It's a flat roof.
23:27Needs repairing.
23:28So I can see since last time I've been here.
23:30Yeah.
23:31It's got worse.
23:31Yeah.
23:32So what is the plan, then?
23:34What is the plan for the club?
23:35The plan is to get Cricket back on here.
23:38How, though?
23:39Well, we're depending on yourself, in many ways.
23:47Cheers, John.
23:47We want you...
23:51Well, I think, basically, we're on our knees.
23:57Really?
23:58We're on our knees.
23:59Sometimes, though, I found this in my career.
24:02You've got to hit rock bottom before you can start going back up.
24:05It sounds like this is rock bottom here now, isn't it?
24:08It is, I think.
24:08Look at the kitchen and the ground and everything.
24:10I think it would be criminal to let this facility disappear.
24:14I agree.
24:15I agree.
24:16Just need a start, don't we?
24:17Yeah, this is...
24:19Well, today, today, you've got all these people, haven't you?
24:21They're having a go on there.
24:24As well as volunteers, kids from the local area have turned up to help out.
24:28Well, Fred, nice to meet you.
24:29Dominic.
24:30Hi, Dominic, you all right?
24:31Thanks for coming.
24:31Go and join them.
24:33Fred.
24:33Nice to meet you.
24:34Nice to meet you.
24:35Go and mingle in.
24:36Thanks so much.
24:37Thanks for coming.
24:38You lads cricket us?
24:39No, football.
24:40No?
24:40It's your sport, just football?
24:42Football.
24:42What else do you do?
24:43I don't really play football that much, though.
24:45What do you do with yourself, then?
24:46Just go out, chill.
24:47Just go out.
24:48You say you're chill.
24:49What, doing what?
24:49What do you do when your mates do?
24:51Just go out in the street and...
24:52And do what?
24:53Just chill.
24:54It's a bit dead nowadays, isn't it?
24:55It's a bit dead?
24:56Yeah, it's just nothing to do nowadays.
24:59What's it like?
25:00Speak.
25:00No, I used to speak, man.
25:01Like, like, the youth and that.
25:04The youth?
25:04Yeah, yeah.
25:05What's wrong with them?
25:07What, are you rough?
25:08A couple of gangs.
25:08Yeah, a couple of rough stuff going on.
25:10Like, my boy got stabbed, like, seven months ago today.
25:13Did he?
25:14Yeah.
25:14Yeah.
25:14I knew the person that stabbed him and the person that died, didn't it?
25:18I was both close with both.
25:19Both friends with them and everything.
25:20So, that's a bit of bad.
25:21I was close with both of them.
25:22But it's just life, innit?
25:25Like, there's nothing you can do about it, seriously.
25:27Yeah, but it depends where you're putting yourself, though, isn't it?
25:29Yeah.
25:30If you're putting yourself in areas where you're susceptible to it...
25:32Yeah, but you're buying into the area.
25:34Yeah, but my thought is with this place is,
25:37if we create something where people can come,
25:39enjoy themselves and they're safe,
25:42good for everyone.
25:42Yeah, yeah.
25:44Do you fancy getting involved here?
25:46Could we get it going, joining the cricket team?
25:47It's semi-posh sport, though.
25:49Yeah, well, it was a posh sport, but trying to change it.
25:51I want everyone to play.
25:52Everyone have a chance.
25:53Yeah.
25:54Well, I'd love you to come.
25:56It's great to meet you.
25:57Hopefully we'll see you again.
25:59You're going to come, aren't you?
26:00Yeah.
26:00Bring your mates as well.
26:01Yeah, we are, don't worry.
26:02All right?
26:02Feel free to pick some litter up if you want as well,
26:04but you might not get much in your bag.
26:06No, no.
26:08All right, thank you.
26:09Cheers, boys.
26:10Have a nice day.
26:13Cricket's a tough sell for them.
26:16But that's the type of lads we want.
26:19You know, so give these boys a chance.
26:21The more I speak to people,
26:23this place is crying out for somewhere
26:24that people can go to.
26:26And it seems that cricket is...
26:29It's probably secondary.
26:30The cricket club is the hook.
26:33And then hopefully from there,
26:34it can expand into more of a social club,
26:38where they're safe.
26:39And we can get kids off the streets.
26:42There is a crack in the wall.
26:44Right.
26:44OK.
26:45Yeah.
26:45You can see where it's all coming down
26:47off the flat roof into the gutter.
26:48To give Freddie an idea of the work needed to restore the club,
26:52he's asked Manchester Council to come down
26:54and conduct a site survey.
26:56What have you found?
26:58We think we've got some subsidence along all the back walls.
27:01It recommended that we have an asbestos survey done,
27:04so they'll come in probably next week.
27:06And then also, we've got a flat roof connecting this part of the building
27:10into the function rooms, and that is leaking like a...
27:14It's gone to a sitting kitchen.
27:15Yeah, it's a mess, isn't it?
27:16Yeah, and it's quite dangerous.
27:18So that's...
27:19What's the cost, then, do you reckon?
27:21So we were looking in the region of about ÂŁ300,000
27:23for refurbishing what we've got.
27:26And then if we were going to demolish and start again,
27:29then it would be in the region of ÂŁ850,000, something like that.
27:33Yeah, you're at ÂŁ15,000, right?
27:35So what's your advice?
27:37We haven't got any money specifically,
27:39but this is about using contractors and reaching out to them.
27:42We need to identify all the needs and the requirements
27:44of what we need to do for the next few months.
27:46What sort of timeframes do you envisage?
27:51I think, to be brutally honest,
27:53we need two to three months to get a planning application together,
27:57and then we've got another three months to get the application submitted
28:01and hopefully approved before we should be put in...
28:04So six months before anything happens?
28:06If we're going to do a new build option, yeah.
28:10Right.
28:12So it's quite a long process, isn't it?
28:15It's a day to start, it's a start, but I'm very impatient.
28:20Very impatient.
28:24Thanks very much.
28:26I was hoping they'd give us a few solutions,
28:28but just give us six months.
28:30Six months and we can do something.
28:32It's a club on its knees.
28:34Something needs doing now and it needs doing fast.
28:37It has to happen before the end of the summer.
28:41Has to.
28:41With plans for his Manchester club looking more and more complicated...
28:48Keep your head down.
28:51Freddie's headed back to his boys' team in Liverpool.
28:55There you go.
28:56But only six have turned up for tonight's training.
29:01I reckon you can hit that harder.
29:03Commit to it, commit to it.
29:05Where's Ryan tonight?
29:06You've got to be doing anything.
29:08Him and Stevie.
29:09What?
29:10With Stevie.
29:11Sam, you can't be doing anything.
29:14One more.
29:14One more and swap over and Kevin can get a drink.
29:19There's not too many here tonight, is there?
29:23It is a disappointment.
29:25It would be nice if everyone was here.
29:27They are a team and they've played a game
29:28and they've been showing signs of improving.
29:31Yeah.
29:32It's hard, isn't it, because things are going to be against us,
29:34but I think it drives you on, doesn't it,
29:37to think this is important.
29:38You have to keep trying,
29:39just to give these kids a chance of playing cricket.
29:42Yes, lad!
29:44One of the oldest boys on the team
29:46who has turned up for training...
29:48..is 17-year-old local lad, Michael.
29:54Oh!
29:54It's a battle!
29:55That will follow that.
29:59You want your weight coming through.
30:00Yeah, so you want your weight forward.
30:01So it all starts with your head.
30:03Sheld.
30:05Nice one, Fred.
30:06Sport's always been a part of my life.
30:09Just keeping me in check a good few times, really.
30:11Just a safe place.
30:13Safe place to go, really.
30:16It's a shot.
30:18Do the nice thing about that, Michael,
30:19it's spun, but you've hit with the spin.
30:21Yeah, yeah.
30:22When I hit the bat, I felt the spin.
30:24You hit with it?
30:25Yeah.
30:26I felt the spin off the bat, as well.
30:29I've always lived in Bootle.
30:30It's just a mental place.
30:31But I'd say it is a rough little area.
30:34And the gang culture is a big, big thing in Bootle.
30:38Doing cricket and being with Freddie.
30:42Come at a good time,
30:43because I feel like the age you're at from 17 to 18
30:46is quite a hard year, I think.
30:49And I feel like it's been a bit of a distraction for me
30:51for just to be able to go and play cricket for an hour or two.
30:54That's what, Michael.
30:55Good one.
30:57There we go.
30:57That's bad.
30:59I'll take that from me last one.
31:01That was a good one, man.
31:01Great effort.
31:04Freddie's decided that after training,
31:06he wants to find out how being part of the team
31:09is helping Michael.
31:10Firstly, how are you finding the cricket?
31:14It was.
31:14You enjoying it?
31:15Yeah, yeah.
31:15How come you wanted to do it in the first place?
31:18It's just an opportunity, really.
31:20An opportunity to excel, wasn't it?
31:21So, take it with both hands.
31:23You're obviously from round here.
31:25Tell us a bit about...
31:27It's quite rough, like.
31:28Is it?
31:29In what way?
31:30I don't know, seven, really.
31:32Get caught in the long side of things.
31:36Been here quite deep, to be honest.
31:37Have you?
31:38Yeah.
31:38So, how does that all start, then?
31:41Just wanting to do better, really, you know what I mean?
31:44You think, oh, yeah, it's the high life,
31:45it's the good life, like.
31:47Out there smoking weed with your mates.
31:48And then, you're going home, and your man,
31:50she finds your bag of weed and stuff like that,
31:52it just causes arguments, and then it's...
31:54It's just a nightmare.
31:58Quite bad, really.
31:59And when you started doing this,
32:02what were you, mid-team, early-teams?
32:04Yeah, well, 13, 14.
32:0513, 14.
32:06Was it just...
32:07It doesn't even ruin your life.
32:08Like, you think it's doing good for you,
32:09but it's not.
32:10It's what it's doing to other people around here,
32:12you know what I mean?
32:12Like, you just hate me, man, big time.
32:15It wasn't really fair to me mum and dad,
32:17cos they've, like, took me in and looked after me
32:20from a baby, if you get to me, so.
32:22You said from a baby, so you've...
32:24Yeah.
32:25So, they're, like, not, like, biological, like, parents.
32:27Oh, right.
32:28Yeah, they're, like, me uncle and auntie, real.
32:31Me, eh...
32:32So, if you don't mind me asking, what?
32:33Yeah, me mum.
32:34Yeah, me mum.
32:35Me mum passed away.
32:37Like, when I was, like, six months old.
32:39Oh, no.
32:40She, like, killed yourself.
32:42Oh, I'm sorry, Mum?
32:43No, it's not like the money.
32:44I'm open, so...
32:45I didn't expect it to.
32:46Yeah, yeah, she, er...
32:47She stopped her own life, me mum.
32:50And then, I got put into care.
32:51What, when you was a baby?
32:52Yeah, when I was a baby, and then...
32:54Your mum and dad, now, we're, like,
32:56Oh, my mum and dad, my auntie and uncle,
32:58they've taken me in.
33:01So, doing all that to them, what I've done,
33:02was wrong, because it was, like,
33:04shit they've done for you, lads, you know what I mean?
33:07Yeah.
33:07You talk to your mum and dad now about your mum?
33:10As a kid, as a kid, I was quite, like...
33:13I feel like that's why I was a bit of a loose cannon
33:15and went down certain ways and stuff like that,
33:17because I didn't really know who I was myself,
33:19in a way, if you get to me.
33:21Because that was, like, a big question to me.
33:22Like, was it my fault or...
33:24You know what I mean?
33:25Just little, like, mad stuff like that, really,
33:27because it is quite a horrible way to go, really, isn't it?
33:31It is, it's the worst way to go.
33:33With suicide.
33:34Yeah, yeah, so, to understand me,
33:36but I was angry towards him,
33:37and I thought you...
33:39For doing it.
33:39Yeah, yeah.
33:40I think my opinion of, like,
33:44suicide's changed over the years
33:45for a few reasons.
33:47One, I've had friends...
33:48Me?
33:49..have done it.
33:50Actually, it wasn't quite a reason.
33:51Sorry to hear that.
33:52No, it's fine.
33:52Um, but...
33:55So, I struggle with my love.
33:56I struggle with depression.
33:58I had an accident 18 months ago,
34:00and I've been honest with you,
34:01like, I didn't want to kill myself,
34:03but I didn't want to be alive.
34:04Does that make sense?
34:05Yeah?
34:06I've been like that a few times.
34:07Yeah, you know what I mean?
34:08Oh, exactly what you mean.
34:09I didn't know if I had it in me.
34:10Yeah, it's just...
34:11And then, and then it also, actually,
34:12I've been quite reflective, actually,
34:14when we met recently,
34:15is that I always thought it was selfish,
34:19and I always thought it was a way out,
34:20but then, actually,
34:21I've come to understand it a little bit more now.
34:25If there's a level,
34:26which there is,
34:27underneath where I felt,
34:29and you can go lower,
34:31I actually really understand it.
34:33Yeah.
34:35So, what is it you want to do now?
34:39Just keep going,
34:39and just keep doing well for yourself.
34:42Yeah.
34:42But, yeah.
34:46You've got all these reasons to be successful
34:48and do well.
34:51I think the biggest one is for you as well.
34:53You know what I mean?
34:54Everyone, like, tries to please
34:55and do this for other people,
34:56but I think you need to do it to yourself.
34:57from what you've been through
35:00and what you've experienced.
35:01That's what I don't know.
35:01You deserve it, you know what I mean?
35:03You deserve it, you've got plenty to offer.
35:05So much.
35:05It's all for these.
35:06I'm totally.
35:07That's a scout for you, mate.
35:11He's dealt with so much in such a young life.
35:14He's only 17.
35:16And I think everyone is guilty of being judgmental,
35:21whether it's kids and their behaviour,
35:24or why kids hang around the streets,
35:25or they're doing some of the things that they're doing.
35:28And the more time we've spent with these lads,
35:30you realise, actually,
35:31there's reasons for people's behaviour.
35:33And that's the thing that needs to be tackled.
35:37You know, I think we've got positive role models for kids,
35:40show them a different way,
35:41show them the opportunities that they could have,
35:43which we're trying to do.
35:47By getting a group of boys or girls
35:49who believe they're a team,
35:51giving them confidence,
35:54a sense of belonging,
35:55and ultimately trying to apply them things into their lives.
36:01We've just got to prove it works.
36:03We've got to prove it's right and it does make a difference.
36:05Who's confident of practising with a hard ball?
36:14In Blackpool,
36:15Freddie's hoping the girls will soon be ready to play their first ever match.
36:20So, if you're confident,
36:21you can go in the net.
36:22But some of the team are still struggling to get to grips with the hard ball.
36:27Don't want them, you know,
36:28not coming to cricket because they're scared of getting hurt,
36:31but we also need to realise that if we're going to play a match,
36:33it's going to be a hard ball,
36:35so it's a tricky one at the moment.
36:37Right, get yourself a bat.
36:38I don't want to put them in a game against another team and embarrass them.
36:41I want them to compete.
36:42I want them to feel confident in what they're doing.
36:45If it goes well,
36:46it could bring some confidence out of them.
36:49But on the flip side of that, though,
36:50if it goes badly
36:50and embarrass themselves,
36:52it could be back to square one.
36:55Oh!
36:57My arse cheek!
36:59Ah!
37:00Oh, do you think I am a professional?
37:04It feels like we're not progressing at all.
37:06We're not.
37:08We were even better than this on the first week.
37:13But it's not just the hard ball affecting the team.
37:16Go on, Molly.
37:17No, do it properly.
37:18Oh, Molly, mate, do it properly.
37:19I beg.
37:19Oh, sorry.
37:21Don't get lippy, mate.
37:22Oh, shut up, Maddie.
37:23If you can't tell, I'm not in the mood.
37:25Oh, shut up.
37:27Go on.
37:28You know what?
37:28I can't be arsed in a bit.
37:30Don't be giving me mouth, please, mate.
37:31I can't be arsed.
37:33Can we just play a bit of cricket?
37:35Stupid ****.
37:36Hey, you're the stupid cow.
37:39I really just don't want to see him to fall apart.
37:43It's like a bitchiness and drama and girls and blah, blah, blah.
37:48When you're playing a game, you have to get on.
37:51Like, everyone has to get on.
37:52And right now, that's not happening.
37:54Well, I don't think we're a team at the moment at all.
37:57I reckon we just get rid of her.
38:01We don't need her.
38:03With the girls, it's different.
38:06A lot more emotional than the boys.
38:09And that seems to be surfacing quite a bit.
38:11They're struggling with a bit of confidence.
38:13But then one thing which is a bit more worrying is there's been a bit of falling out.
38:17Different friendship groups.
38:20People getting young with one another.
38:21That's the funny thing about sport, and in particular cricket.
38:25You know, even with England, you get put together a group of people
38:29that I reckon, unless you play cricket, you would never meet.
38:33But disrespect them, just learn how to get along.
38:36You don't have to be best of mates with people.
38:38It seems to be a bit of falling out.
38:43Is that fair?
38:45What is it about the two of you that clashes?
38:47You just don't like each other.
38:48Don't like each other, you don't try with each other?
38:52How can you solve it?
38:53Because the problem is, with you two, such strong characters,
38:57is if you're kicking off or not getting on,
39:00I think it's going to affect everyone.
39:03I don't actually know.
39:05You think there's a world in which the two of you get on?
39:08No.
39:08Why?
39:09We never get on.
39:10Why?
39:10I don't know.
39:13Well, try it.
39:15You don't have to get on best of mates.
39:18We can respect each other, can't you?
39:20Yeah.
39:21Try and not row.
39:23Kick off.
39:25Just be teammates.
39:27Yeah?
39:33I just can't keep going as it are, can it?
39:35We're meant to be trying to be closer as a team,
39:38so we can then play our matches and we can do more things.
39:41But if they keep kicking off with each other,
39:43that's not a possibility at the minute.
39:44With problems mounting in Blackpool,
39:50Freddie's headed back to Manchester,
39:52where he's hoping to create his third team
39:54and restore Newton Heath Cricket Club to its former glory.
39:58Yeah, it's been about a month since we were here.
40:01Last time, there was all sorts going on.
40:03We had the clear-up, didn't we?
40:04So people had turned out,
40:06there were people in bushes picking litter up,
40:08doing every little bit they can.
40:09Coming back, you can see nothing's been done.
40:15The ground just keeps growing.
40:17The clubhouse is just getting slowly worse.
40:19It's just been left.
40:21It seems at the minute,
40:22everything's just come to a halt at this place.
40:25Keen to find out what's been happening,
40:28Freddie's catching up with John.
40:29Hi, John.
40:30One of the club's trustees.
40:32There's a problem with the lease, Freddie.
40:35The lease has gone missing.
40:40We've spoken to solicitors,
40:41we've received advice off them,
40:43and we're going to act on that.
40:44What's the advice?
40:46Find the lease?
40:48Well, that's the first one.
40:50This is the original lease,
40:53which was from 1859.
40:55It's written in Old English,
40:57and it mentions sport in there.
41:00But it doesn't actually mention
41:02Newton Heath Cricket Club.
41:04So we need to find the lease.
41:09But you don't know where that is?
41:10At this moment, it's misplaced.
41:13Right.
41:14It's one thing after another, isn't it?
41:16If you don't get it resolved...
41:18No, it will be resolved.
41:19No, it will be.
41:20I don't say you won't, John.
41:22Yeah.
41:23But, again, it's time, isn't it?
41:25It is time, yeah.
41:27That's the issue.
41:29Yeah.
41:30The way I understand it is
41:31if we don't sort this lease out now,
41:35everything we're doing is in jeopardy.
41:37In some ways, it's not even a...
41:39It's a non-starter.
41:41Yes.
41:42We fully understand that
41:43and the need to get that sorted ASAP.
41:46We don't even know if we've got the ground.
41:50We don't know where we stand.
41:51You can't then go to people,
41:53ask them to help or give money.
41:55But why would anybody do that
41:57if you've not got a lease?
41:59Yeah, this is just becoming
42:00far harder than I ever imagined.
42:04It's just barrier after barrier.
42:06It's just obstacles everywhere.
42:09Also, as well,
42:10I'm going to go and try and get a team tonight.
42:13You know, we've put an open session out
42:14for people to turn up
42:16and come and try cricket,
42:18hopefully come and join the club.
42:19But what are they joining?
42:21With the clubhouse at Newton Heath
42:23still not fit for purpose,
42:25tonight's tryouts for Freddie's third team
42:28are being held
42:29at an established cricket club
42:31in North Manchester.
42:33Is it just us tea?
42:34No, it's going to be about...
42:35It's going to be more of you.
42:36No, I don't think they're...
42:37A couple more.
42:39Come on, lads.
42:40How are you?
42:40All right?
42:42Cheers, lads.
42:43You're welcome.
42:44The thing about this is,
42:46it's meant to be a tryout,
42:47but whoever comes is in.
42:50It's not like a trial.
42:51It's not how good you are at cricket.
42:53If you turn up,
42:54we'll have you.
42:56There you go.
43:00Yeah, I'm just looking up.
43:01There's another one now.
43:02You want to know?
43:02Yeah, I'll have him.
43:05I think with everything going on at the club
43:07and all the problems,
43:09I think this is probably
43:10even more important now.
43:12You know, if you're going to say,
43:13what, there's people waiting to play.
43:15You think I'll be the next Freddie Flintoff?
43:17LAUGHTER
43:18LAUGHTER
43:19LAUGHTER
43:20LAUGHTER
43:21LAUGHTER
43:22Nice to meet you.
43:25You too.
43:26Nice to meet you. You all right?
43:27Let's get out on grass.
43:28Come on, lads.
43:29LAUGHTER
43:30Great shot.
43:34Which one?
43:35Presley.
43:36Presley?
43:36What a name that is.
43:38Like Elvis, innit?
43:39My hero, Elvis.
43:40You all right? Thanks for coming.
43:41I'm Fred.
43:42You all right?
43:42You all right? Nice to meet you.
43:44You all right?
43:44Come join us, come join us.
43:45You coming?
43:45All right, first of all, I'm Fred.
43:48This is Kyle.
43:50I just want to thank everyone
43:51for turning up today and coming down.
43:52Throw yourselves into it.
43:54Whatever standard, whatever level,
43:55encourage each other and have some fun.
43:58It's not the hardest game in the world.
43:59You've got to throw a ball, catch a ball and hit a ball.
44:01All right.
44:02Kyle?
44:03Yeah, shall we get going?
44:04Shall we head over to the nets in the corner?
44:06We'll do a bit of batting and bowling.
44:08Use these balls.
44:09You know, they're quite soft.
44:10It's not going to hurt or anything.
44:12If you've never bowled before, think of a windmill.
44:15This bowling arm, imagine a windmill coming over.
44:18That's going towards the batter.
44:20Just have a go.
44:21Let's try it.
44:21See what happens, yeah?
44:22Does that have to bounce?
44:23Yeah, yeah, bounce once.
44:24Yeah, like this.
44:26Here he is.
44:26Come on, Hats.
44:27Look at what you've got.
44:30Boy, what is that?
44:31One more, one more, because that was nothing.
44:33Eleven boys have turned up for the tryout,
44:35but some have never even picked up a cricket bat before.
44:39One more, one more, one more.
44:42One up, down, over.
44:45It's OK, it's OK, it's OK.
44:49I can't control it, Wallah!
44:51It's so much harder than it looks, eh?
44:53I've got to control it.
44:55It's varying degrees of ability, but it's all foul.
44:58Come on, Presley, come on, Presley.
45:02They're trying the nuts off, aren't they?
45:05Freddie, chuck a ball for me, please.
45:07Yeah.
45:08Well, let's see what you've got.
45:1116-year-old Presley is no stranger to sport,
45:15but he's never been part of a cricket team.
45:17I'm pretty cocky in sports and stuff,
45:20but it's the way to be, you know what I mean?
45:21Confidence is key.
45:23Most important thing, please.
45:25Yeah, yeah.
45:26Watch it as hard as you can.
45:28Send it!
45:29My favourite thing to do is go fishing,
45:32because I'm not old enough to go out to a pub and have a pond,
45:34so that's my pub, the pond.
45:38I don't know.
45:40Teach me how to cricket.
45:41I'll teach me how to play fish.
45:44You ready?
45:46Here we go.
45:47I'm used to doing it with plastic than water, so it's more heavier.
45:53I'm blaming the equipment until I get better.
45:57Get yourselves a drink.
45:59I'm knackered.
46:00I'm dying now.
46:02Yeah, it's hard, isn't it?
46:03Freddie.
46:04Yeah.
46:04Honestly, I thought cricket was a lazy sport me until I played then.
46:07Oh, a lazy sport?
46:09Yeah.
46:09What do you usually do?
46:11You split a tiny?
46:12No, I was chilling at home.
46:13I go fishing now and then.
46:14What did you fish for?
46:15Cork.
46:16Yeah?
46:16Yeah.
46:17How big?
46:19Do you want to tell you a lie, or...?
46:20Tell me a lie.
46:21No, like...
46:23Catching decent, 10, 13 pounds.
46:25Have many of you played cricket?
46:27No?
46:27No.
46:29Is everyone enjoying it, though?
46:30Yeah, it's good.
46:31Yeah, yeah.
46:32Good.
46:33Fancy doing more?
46:34Yeah, yeah.
46:38Do you know what?
46:38The nicest thing,
46:39after the day I've had,
46:42going to Newton Heath
46:43and listening to John's Tale of War
46:45and leases and pitches,
46:48you know, I was expecting tonight nothing,
46:51but it was a good turnout.
46:53The nicest thing was,
46:55when you talk about putting a team together,
46:57you know, because you get a load of lads
46:59that have got nothing in common, really,
47:01and you're just lumped together.
47:02And sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't,
47:05but definitely from what I've seen tonight,
47:07that is the makings of a team.
47:10Do you want me to catch a carp, or...?
47:12No, I've caught roach, bream.
47:15I think it was brilliant.
47:18Everyone comes back,
47:19made a couple of mates,
47:21exchanged numbers and that.
47:22Well, Morgana told me always to kiss the fish for good luck.
47:26My breath must have stunk.
47:28Stop that snogging a fish.
47:32Hopefully everyone gets better
47:34and we'll just start being the best that we can,
47:38the dream team.
47:41There's so many things that need doing,
47:44there's so many obstacles,
47:45but when you see what's just happened there,
47:47you think, yeah, we'll have to have a go at this.
47:49We'll have to do it.
47:50Yeah, yeah.
47:51We don't have any confidence.
47:52We start getting all four brothers in this game.
47:59Does anyone know what we're doing?
48:05No.
48:05In Blackpool,
48:08Freddie's still keen for the girls
48:09to play their first match as soon as possible.
48:12So in a last-ditch attempt
48:14to bring them together as a team,
48:16he's taking them away from the cricket pitch
48:18and into the countryside
48:19to try and fix the rift in the group.
48:21One of the things we want from them
48:24is to become a team,
48:25a proper team and work together.
48:27I don't want to bond with any of you.
48:30I don't want to bond with root God.
48:32Hopefully when we leave today,
48:34they'll become closer as a team
48:35and we can take that into the matches
48:38and what lies ahead for us.
48:40It sounds very easy, doesn't it?
48:42Putting white suits on,
48:43building a raft,
48:44cold water,
48:45what could possibly go around?
48:48You all right?
48:49No.
48:50How was the bus trip?
48:52It was a nightmare.
48:53Come on.
48:54Where are we going?
48:55What are we doing?
48:56I'm seeing a lake.
48:58Look at this.
48:59How nice is this?
49:01Yeah, I'm going back.
49:01We'll do raft building.
49:03Are we actually?
49:04I don't like raft building.
49:06I'm not going in that.
49:07Oh, my God.
49:09One of the things I want to work on today
49:13is becoming a proper team,
49:15working with each other,
49:16communicating with each other
49:17and spending time,
49:18possibly with people
49:19you don't spend too much time with
49:21within the group.
49:22Go and get your wetsuits.
49:23Off you go.
49:24Oh, there's a snail on my coat.
49:26Ah!
49:28I already feel like there's going to be
49:30like so many dramas
49:31and I'm not in the mood for it.
49:34Hopefully it will benefit us
49:35and not make it worse.
49:36Right.
49:37Are you helping with this tarpaulin?
49:41Right, so under there
49:42is everything that you're going to need
49:44to build these rafts.
49:45What I'm going to do now,
49:46I'm going to split you
49:46into two different teams.
49:47What?
49:48Team A.
49:50Maddy,
49:51Summer,
49:52Amy, Carla,
49:53and Mila.
49:53I'm not happy with you.
49:54Right, come on.
49:55In your teams.
49:56I don't want to be in this group.
49:58It's interesting, isn't it?
49:59It's right away,
49:59Summer don't want to be in that group.
50:01It's not the people
50:01she knocks around with,
50:02but that's the whole purpose of today.
50:03Honestly,
50:07when I played,
50:07I hated anything like this.
50:11I didn't like building a raft,
50:12but then you've got to realise
50:13other people do
50:14and I didn't at times.
50:15We're in it together, aren't we?
50:16Yeah.
50:17Oh, there's poo!
50:19I'm a toad.
50:20Both teams have been given
50:22an hour to build their rafts
50:24before testing them out
50:25on the lake.
50:26Right over where?
50:27Yeah, like that.
50:28They're getting it wrong
50:28doing water.
50:29You've got to do it proper.
50:31There is a consequence
50:31to not getting involved here.
50:33Yeah.
50:33Right, are we lifting up
50:34a corner each then?
50:35Oh, Max!
50:37So, kick that one under.
50:39Thanks.
50:40We need to flip it.
50:43Look at theirs,
50:44they haven't flipped it.
50:45Yes, they have.
50:45Yes, they have.
50:46No, they haven't.
50:46Yes, they have.
50:48No, they haven't.
50:48Yes, they've flipped the thing.
50:50Look at the long one
50:51going across.
50:52No.
50:53It doesn't matter,
50:54they've flipped the thing.
50:56Oh, no, what's happened?
50:57I think there's a bit
50:58of a head clash.
50:59Oh, my God.
51:00I want to go home, mate.
51:01This is dead.
51:01I want to go home.
51:03One minute you're enjoying it,
51:05and the next minute
51:05it's just all going off.
51:07I'm bored.
51:09Molly's given up.
51:10OK, whatever.
51:11This is just a joke
51:12at this point.
51:14So much for a team,
51:15isn't it?
51:16Everyone's against each other.
51:19Oh, my God, no.
51:21You know, we're going to play
51:21the first game of cricket soon
51:23and we need everyone
51:24to be working together.
51:25Get back in, Molly.
51:26Come on.
51:27Oh, can you not just do this?
51:28Wait.
51:30Wait.
51:34It's not moving.
51:36Molly, we could use your help
51:37right now.
51:38Come on.
51:39Molly, mate,
51:39come over here, mate.
51:40We need your help.
51:42Bloody hell, Mo.
51:45Right, get that one.
51:46That can go in the middle.
51:48I'll lift you place.
51:50Right, you ready?
51:51Go.
51:52Go.
51:53How am I doing it?
51:54Well done, Molly.
51:55Go on, Mo.
51:55Get that corner.
51:58This looks like a team.
52:01Teamwork.
52:02Nearly done.
52:03Now how are we going to tie them?
52:05Right, pass me that in, man.
52:09There we go.
52:10Here we go.
52:11Yay.
52:12Look, we built a raft.
52:14See, we did it.
52:18Well done.
52:20It's going to tip over straight away.
52:24Mama's scar is going to run.
52:28We've all obviously got to help each other to get in without panicking.
52:36Woo!
52:38Nothing to see, just two 40-odd-year-old men.
52:41Right, shall we get in there?
52:42Let's get these rafts on the water.
52:44Oh, that's not seeing on.
52:46Oh, my God.
52:47Imagine that, wouldn't it?
52:48That's so safe, isn't it?
52:49Mate, we're having a right nightmare.
52:52Ah!
52:53This water's monkey, mate.
52:55No, wait, wait, wait.
52:56So cold.
52:57I'm scared.
52:58I'm scared.
52:58I'm scared.
52:58I'm scared.
52:59I'm scared.
53:00I'm scared.
53:00I'm scared.
53:01I'm scared.
53:01You're going to get paddling.
53:02You're going to get paddling.
53:03You're going to get paddling.
53:04You are.
53:05You're all.
53:06Doing so well.
53:07Yeah, I'm trying to win.
53:09Oh, no.
53:10Sorry.
53:11Oh, no.
53:12You're going to get paddling.
53:13Oh, no.
53:14You're going to get paddling.
53:15You're going to get paddling.
53:16Hey.
53:17No.
53:18Dilly.
53:19Everywhere we go.
53:21Hey.
53:22Oh, that got me.
53:24People want to know.
53:25People want to know.
53:26People want to know.
53:27Who we are.
53:29Who we are.
53:31Where we come from.
53:32Where we come from.
53:33So we tell them.
53:35So we tell them.
53:37We're from Blackpool.
53:38We're from Blackpool.
53:39We're from Blackpool.
53:40The mighty, mighty Blackpool.
53:41The mighty, mighty Blackpool.
53:42The mighty, mighty Blackpool.
53:48Today's been perfect.
53:51It was so fun.
53:54I think it's built our confidence back up from when the last time we all had drama.
54:00Yeah, we've gone a lot closer together.
54:05It was just hilarious.
54:06It was so good.
54:07It was incredible, wasn't it?
54:08They got in the water.
54:09They were enjoying it.
54:10Everyone's smiling.
54:11Everyone's laughing.
54:12Helping each other.
54:13Everything that we could have expected.
54:14That was me.
54:15It was a good day.
54:16Good day.
54:17Good day.
54:18Good day.
54:19Whenever there's probably a wonderful day.
54:20The sky.
54:21The sky.
54:22The sky.
54:23The sky.
54:24The sky.
54:25The sky.
54:26The sky.
54:27The sky.
54:28The sky.
54:29The sky.
54:30The sky.
54:31The sky.
54:34The came of pups.
54:35Come to save the day.
54:36I think it has helped us bond as a team.
54:50We've all got like more comfortable with each other so if we need any help we'll just ask for the help.
54:55To be fair I got on with Molly quite good today and I was quite shocked.
54:59It's all about team yielding to be fair innit and just getting on.
55:03I've really enjoyed it and I hope you have.
55:07Yeah, pushing you off, yeah, that was the best part.
55:11The pleasing part for myself and Kyle is that when you turned up off that bus you saw what you was going to do and there's so many people saying,
55:19oh, we're going there, I don't want to build a raft, I don't want to do this, that and the other.
55:24And then every single one of you bought into it and every one of you worked together.
55:30This is the first time I thought, actually, we've got a cricket team here.
55:34You were talking to people you don't necessarily spend a lot of time with within the team.
55:38And for me, I've got to say I'm so proud of you and you should be so proud of yourselves as well.
55:45I even managed trying not to smile again. Molly might crack one in a minute.
55:51We feel like a proper team right now.
55:58That is a team. Everything that we hoped for from today happened.
56:04And that'll put us in good stead going into a cricket match.
56:07They've come so far. They should be proud of themselves tonight.
56:10I think, you know, me and Kyle are definitely.
56:12We're the only two masked lesbians on here.
56:15That's you, not me.
56:17Are you joking? You're a masked lesbian.
56:18I'm not a lesbian.
56:20Yes, you are. I'm not a lesbian.
56:21There's no possible where you're straight, Molly.
56:23I'm not a lesbian.
56:25What is this?
56:27You're out.
56:30Oh, mate, fuming.
56:32Got to run, you hit it.
56:33Doing three hasn't made it three times harder.
56:36It's almost made it ten times harder.
56:38All we want is just a team to play with.
56:42Who are they after, please?
56:44Someone's getting niffed.
56:47How are you coming in here?
