02:00you are
02:07i don't think i've realized how upscale and how big it is absolutely mental it was amazing i think that was
02:14our first taste where we went okay we can see what we're getting ourselves into there are about 200
02:22million fans worldwide and the industry is estimated to be worth five billion dollars
02:31i think we'll be on a growth trail i think for the next seven eight years hopefully more so
02:36it was mind-blowing the vocals were flawless the dance moves were precise the performance was just
02:52incredible it sort of set the buyer very very high standard
02:59we went backstage to get some tips from some of the k-pop idols who had performed starting with the
03:04incredible prize we'll do our official greeting cool how did you come up with rise as your name our name
03:20is kind of like a combination of the words rise and realize and kind of have like a team bottle sort of
03:29like to rise and realize our dreams in a way cool nice yeah it was cool
03:38and then the legendary 10 from waving came to see us so what was your first experience performing at
03:44like sm town i'm very nervous at first and then with a year after i debuted i become more like comfortable
03:52like on stage so it gets like easier as you go on yes you learn the tips and the tricks after like you
03:58perform like one after another so i feel like you learn along the way yeah definitely one of the most
04:10full-scale concerts i've seen in a while
04:12i'll put it next uh taylor sweat huge huge it was amazing
04:29as we came out we met some fans even though you know we didn't even know it was possible to have
04:34fans before we'd even really started
04:40made i'd say probably all five of us very happy
04:46that was amazing we've met some of our first fans what can we say
04:49on the drive to the house we actually got to uh see soul on the way through it was like something
05:02out of a batman movie
05:09the lights were just insane there's so much life in the city it's amazing but it was also
05:15quite daunting because i haven't actually lived this far away from home before during the time
05:21in korea the boys will be living together in the fashionable soul district of ittawan
05:28okay here we go oh my look in the kitchen yo oh my god yo wow i think i know which room i want already
05:39oh my god the house is so sick downstairs we've got like games room mirrors so we can practice our
05:48dances i'm on the next level hi i'm dexter i'm 22 i've been a performer ever since i was a little
05:58kid and i've been dreaming about doing something like this that's super cute room so i want this one
06:04i can't lie i would say i'm an attention seeker but when i'm performing i definitely want everyone
06:08to look at me yeah i mean who doesn't love loads of people applauding you
06:15it's just fun
06:19ah do you remember this one i was just so proud of you this is how i'd like you to dress all the time
06:26i love the like tank top with the smart trousers
06:29last time in south korea i'll probably miss my mum the most i see her every day in london you
06:33know i live with her spending my time with her so it'll definitely be hard but it's worth it
06:41let me show you what is that wait is that actually someone at the door just looking around the house
06:46and the doorbell rang a lovely lady arrived called joy our translator and she was going to tell us what
06:52was going to be happening over the next 100 days every week you guys are going to prepare a performance
06:56different performance every week and you guys will be evaluated by heejun the head of training
07:01and every trainee goes through her but i do have to let you know that it's not guaranteed that
07:07everyone's going to be there at the end of the program not everybody makes it through the program
07:12yeah wait we're not going to make it because this is going to be cut well i can't really say much
07:20because he's just going to be in charge of evaluating you guys you guys are going to meet her at the end
07:24of the week for your first evaluation what she said about not all of us will make it i'm not feeling
07:31too great wait one of us one of us we're not all we're not going to be one of us we could all be
07:36calm blaze definitely took the news the hardest but that is the business at the end of the day you
07:40know if you if you can't keep up you get cut and that's that's how the industry works indeed it does
07:45the first thing any boy band needs is a sound can you feel the vibes i'm checking how i'm speaking of
07:52sm entertainment believe this song will work for them speaking body language we both understand can
07:58you feel the vibes and this is the choreography they'll be learning to accompany the song
08:09okay let's go
08:14k-pop is technically difficult as the choreography needs to be in perfect unison teaching them the
08:20skills to achieve this is sunshine park
08:28absolutely honestly i'm i am slow at picking up choreo and channel done
08:37i'm james i'm 23. i'm from huddersfield in the uk around sheep and cows let me try that one again
08:44let me run that one around i have a twin brother called lewis we post dance videos online and we
08:50create our own dance trends i think standing now on our main page we have 5.6 million followers
08:59this opportunity is huge i want to learn that's what i want to do i want to learn i want to soak up
09:04everything i can for me dance it's my main discipline which means i can really really appreciate the
09:15sort of intricacies of the movement five and six and seven and eight i'm not super good at picking up
09:26dance i come from all like a singing modeling background one more time sorry
09:33yeah you got it you got it okay yeah um we'll see step and slide off roll and roll kick
09:46right from the start i found the choreo tough free styling is my forte because i struggle to follow
09:51direction i'm very do things on my own kind of a guy i felt a little bit bad for our choreographer
10:08on the first training day i don't think he really worked with a group of boys like us before
10:13our coordination wasn't wasn't great it's about looking like a team and looking the same because
10:18we all have a bit different flavors it's definitely hard um i'm gonna have to put in the work but
10:23yeah it's fun hi i'm ollie i'm 20 years old and i'm from sunderland i went to school in derring
10:31cathedral so i sung in the choir there i've always grown up with just my mom my nana my granddad
10:37look after yourself right now i know that this is your dream yeah you know you'll work hard i think
10:43performing was passed on to me from my mom she used to do a lot of modeling when she was younger and
10:47dancing and you know that we both gotta miss you like soul mother everything all of her acted in
10:54sang danced i was all i'm not bragging but he's good lucky you know and i'm so proud of you always

12:42yeah how about that i can see it you see that gap just there let's go three two one here we are okay
12:50now let's go to another spot
12:54in korea photo booths are a cultural phenomenon fueled by k-pop that works that works yeah that works
13:01fans have limited opportunities to take photos with k-pop idols
13:09so photo booths are the only way to get a snap with their favorite stuff
13:15everywhere you look in the soul there are these photo booths the people here love them it's like a
13:19massive social thing it's a trend worth millions and thousands of booths have opened across south korea
13:25in the last 10 years across town in young goo is hiker an interactive experience that allows fans to make

15:39raise your hand the winner for this dance challenge is
15:50i'm a very competitive person so winning a dance challenge in the first week as a cleanup
15:54crew was a very nice thing to happen i feel like it was deserved i was gutted i was i was absolutely
16:00gutted yeah
16:05but the boys break from training is short-lived over the next few days their rehearsals become even more
16:12intense
16:17being a trainee is basically a full-time job and the only time you're not training is when you're sleeping
16:23i have never been so tired in my life this was absolutely relentless
16:31drop it
16:33but despite their hard work they're still struggling to crack the choreo
16:38the only you go on to get to liquor step step
16:49no no no
16:51god you go kick step step to count to the one and two that's the count one and two one
16:58and two okay well that's right that's right as ollie struggles in the dance studio reese is struggling in
17:06the vocal room with coach wumin jun wave of the energy when we go on in together is the way we move and the night is
17:16lean and lean
17:18yeah
17:19yeah
17:19yeah
17:19but when you're singing the face you're singing the voice like this
17:24yeah
17:24yeah
17:24yeah
17:25but this is
17:26can you feel the voice
17:28this is not a song
17:29just

17:32yeah
17:32yeah
17:33yeah
17:33yeah
17:34okay
17:54okay
18:00It feels different yeah, I
18:19Became a performer from the age of four five. Oh look at you there
18:23When I perform I feel like I can properly be me
18:34Throughout my school life
18:35I've always had a little bit of you know the haters comments or it made me carry on and keep pushing to to get where I want to be today
18:44I've been a cruise ship dancer for the last eight months, but a boy bands always been a dream of mine
18:53K-pop is one of the biggest industries now in the world the fame the lifestyle is you know crazy good
19:00So for us, you know five lads coming out of college into this extraordinary experience is you know once in a lifetime and it is amazing
19:08I
19:19With just days to go until their evaluation the band are still failing to dance in unison
19:26All right
19:33Oh my god
19:37The birds
19:41Does that mean very bad
19:43Yeah
19:49I feel a little bit stressed
19:51It's not like perfect and perfectly down still making stupid mistakes
19:55Eight and one and two and one and two okay
20:01Synchronization can be very challenging good communication is really crucial
20:04And you really need to remember that you're working as a part of a team and that just comes from experience and practicing together
20:14After a tough few days of training the boys are being given a night off to have a night in
20:20Hello, we're shindong from k-pop group super junior
20:25He's been performing at the very top for 20 years
20:28And tonight he's given these new trainees a lesson in Korean culture
20:37So, I'm going to prepare for Korean food
20:44Macaulay is a rice wine that's traditionally drunk alongside a main meal
20:51You just want one shot
20:53Oh, it's good man
20:54It's good man
20:55When you look at the kids eating the food
20:58When you look at the kid, they turn the one to the other
20:59Then they turn the one to the other
21:08Oh, another trip
21:11This game is Ba-Ni-Ba-Ni

21:50You know the rules.
21:51Is it what I
22:10With just two days to go until the heat on unit valuation
22:15Choreographer Sun Quan Kim has been drafted in to help them crack synchronization
22:21Oh
22:23They should be
22:25To be honest to them
22:29We have no time for time
22:31So, we can see what they are playing in the background
22:33Look at each other, go in a circle
22:35We are one team
22:37We are one team
22:39I will know what I am doing

22:47Let's go out there
22:49There is a lot of people in the background

22:53There is a lot of people in the background
22:55Let's go, let's go

23:37Funny for your body like electricity
23:42Can you feel the fire?
23:45I'm blaze and I am 19. I first started performing when I was about seven
23:55My mom always say I was really talented at a young age
23:59I don't think I was I could not sing when I was younger. I could not dance either
24:04Addition for the Brits school. I went there from age 14 to 18 and I loved like every second of it
24:15This is my dream to be performing on on massive stages in front of massive audiences
24:20I'm expecting a lot of long hours from the training the standards are gonna be like very very high
24:27Which is slightly daunting but very exciting
24:30And when you know you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, so
24:35Or you'll soon 있겠지만 그냥 한번 시도해 볼래 근데 웃으면서 빅살이 나면 돼
24:40Blades is quite a low speaking voice. So I'd say he's more of a bariton, but the k-pop songs have quite high vocal
24:49Can you feel the vibes?
24:52Can you feel the vibes?
24:56Okay
25:00Yeah
25:02With some band members struggling with the different aspects of k-pop training wellness coach genie chang has been brought in to help
25:10Them cope with the daily emotional and mental challenges. Hello. Hello guys. So excited to meet you
25:17I'm here to check up on you guys
25:20Just to make sure you're doing good, you know, so how was your first week? How's it been?
25:24Um, it's been really good. It's been very intense. And you say that with a smile. Yeah, well, okay
25:29No, it's been in a good way because I mean we're training with like the best people
25:33It's a little mind-blowing training in SM. They're working with like the biggest names in k-pop and I'm like, oh, wow
25:40Like yeah, this is kind of crazy. Okay. It's also like they ask us what our favorite like k-pop idols are
25:45Of course, they're gonna ask that we say someone and they're like, oh, yeah, they're my student
25:51Who is your favorite? I'm just curious. I
25:57Mean I'm looking forward to seeing how good we get and like what SM are gonna create us into yeah
26:05We're already really good, but just becoming that like so slick and sick. How are you guys getting along?
26:10Yeah, good. I think we've all become really close because of how
26:14Intense the training has been of course
26:16We're all gonna have to have each of his back because sometimes like for me example like I'm
26:21Not getting a move and I'm a little slower at choreo and these boys like you're at man. Oh
26:26To me that's really important because you guys have to lean on each other. You know, that's the whole k-pop thing the group mentality
26:32On that note, I guess I want to know do you guys know each other's strengths or your favorite things about each other?
26:38Reese he's got the most amazing voice you are such a handsome man. He goes about life as if he's in a photo shoot
26:49Let's talk about blaze he's a little quiet over here
26:52Blaze i'd say is our little dancer
26:54From day one the little's just unnecessary just calling me a dancer is nice
26:59I like the way he scratches his hair
27:03Okay, is that gonna be the signature look
27:05Yeah
27:08Okay, let's talk about james james is very mature and he's also a very very kind person and an amazing dancer
27:14Yeah, what do you enjoy about me? What do you enjoy about him?
27:17Oh, he's got the best laugh. You've got a really beautiful sunshiny energy about your dexter. Thank you james
27:22But that's great. So he radiates he has a great laugh
27:26Okay, that's awesome. Let's go to ollie ollie tries hard always
27:31Um
27:34So i was gonna go on to say
27:36Yeah
27:37He doesn't call himself a dancer
27:38You don't call yourself a dancer?
27:40No
27:40No, no
27:41You know i've danced for a long time but i just don't have the connection in my body
27:45I'll just say i admire how he's not afraid to put himself out of his comfort zone
27:49Yeah
27:50Like if that was me i would be very uncomfortable
27:53I'll be i'll be stressing
27:55Okay, so you have your assessment okay?
27:57Yeah
27:58So what's that gonna be like?
28:00Feeling the pressure a little bit
28:01It's not easy to take criticism right or like feet like that feedback of like this isn't good
28:06I'm not intimidated
28:07I think we will be nervous when we actually go to do it
28:09I mean i think that's normal
28:10We'll get real once we walk in
28:15Oh
28:19Evaluation is just a day away
28:26This is the last chance for the routine to be perfected with vocal coach jinyin jen
28:32And everything appears to be in tune
28:41However
28:41Can you feel the fire?
28:44Oh, good
28:45Can you feel
28:46Feel
28:47Blaise
28:47That
28:48That
28:48That
28:49That
28:49That
28:50That
28:50That
28:51Can you feel
28:51Can you feel
28:51Can you feel
28:52Can you feel
28:53My position was horrible
28:54That
28:55First was bad
28:56Can you feel the fire?
28:59We're looking towards tomorrow with performances we just need clean up vocals clean up dancing
29:04There's a little bit of a disconnect between the two i'd say at the moment
29:08We'll just get better let's just get better
29:12You wouldn't think we're fingers that's for sure
29:15We're a unit of five and so if anyone's struggling with one thing we're all struggling with that one thing
29:24Tomorrow's going to be intense
29:26We finally just got to go in there and give everything we've got
29:28One week into their a hundred day training regime and it all comes down to this yeah you never
29:39A little bit boys it's good to be nervous there's definitely some no's and some
29:44A lot of thinking of what ifs and everything obviously everyone is a little bit nervous but i think i'm a little bit intimidated i'm a little bit like
29:50No i think it'll be all right so it's gonna happen yeah we're gonna need it look all we can do is
29:55Our very best put our all into it whatever we leave in that room is left in that room that's that
30:04Just want to get it done now yeah man the anticipation is killing me
30:11You're nervous yeah you're doing yeah your vocal warm-ups i'm there i mean you're pacing me no i'm not
30:20No no no i'm not nervous but i'm not nervous i'm excited
30:26I'm not really that worried i think i'm pretty confident in all of our abilities
30:35Heejin yoon has more than 20 years experience creating and nurturing some of k-pop's biggest stars
30:42She has unbelievably high standards and any who fail to meet them risk being cut from training
30:51The
31:02I'll show you right
31:05Come on boys
31:21I can feel my heart see sparks when I'm with you
31:28I feel it in my soul, yeah, you know what we gotta do
31:33Your labyrinth's so bright, gotta put on shades
31:38Baby, come along, watch me take it away
31:42Somebody turn up louder
31:46To get down for an hour
31:50Just you and me out on the floor
31:52Let's go a little longer
31:56It's getting stronger, and stronger, and stronger
32:01Can you feel the vibe?
32:04Every time you move a little closer to me
32:06You're walking through your body like electricity
32:08You're sitting there and everywhere you're hitting to the beat
32:11Can you feel the vibe?
32:13I'm shaking and I'm sticking and I'm flicking me next
32:15So come on over, come and closer, give me a hand
32:18Speaking about your language so you won't understand
32:20Can you feel the vibe?
32:25Can you feel the vibe?
32:30Can you feel the wave of the energy when we all want to live?
32:34Together with the way we move?

34:35I think it's going to be a good point for you to be able to do it in a certain way.
34:48I think it's going to be a good point for 100 points.
34:52I think it's going to be a good point for you.
34:55I guess 65, I know I could have given more and cleaner with everything.
35:03For me, I think it would be like 35, 40.
35:11About 70%, 65 to 70%, I'd say.
35:17I would say about 70%.
35:23I'd say 50.
35:29I think I got the base of it down.
35:31There's a lot of details and things to make sure it's all perfect.
35:34That I missed out.
35:37I'm very worried.
35:44The more worried is that people think about this point.
35:50Can I be a singer?
35:53Like this?
35:54It's not going to happen.
35:59What kind of confidence?
36:00Why do you think it's going to happen?
36:06The passion.
36:08What kind of confidence?
36:16By the way I can do it, it's the most careful.
36:18What kind of confidence?
36:21Yes.
36:22The moment is once a year that dance is the most important, it's the most important thing.
36:26I can't understand the situation in my opinion.
36:30I have to do it hard.
36:34But I have to do it hard.
36:38But I have to do it hard.
36:42I have to do it hard.
36:50I don't have to do it hard.
36:54I can't hear it hard.
36:56I can't hear it hard.
37:02And you're doing this, you're not a dance.
37:06It's just like students doing it.
37:14I've never heard this before.
37:20I think it's too late to see the face of this.
37:27If you see the next scene, it's better to see the face of this.
37:38Did you understand?
37:39Yes.
37:41No camera.
37:50All right, we carried them down.
37:57Heejin has called an emergency meeting with the management team.
38:11That was horrifically negative.
38:14Yeah.
38:16I didn't think it was a basic little choreo, though.
38:19That was basic level here in Korea.
38:22I can only speak for myself, but that, like, got kind of real.
38:26The all-round feedback for us was that we were terrible.
38:31We got ripped into in there.
38:34We expected something like this, just not this brutal.
38:38I think we've all worked hard this week.
38:40I've seen us all working hard.
38:43I think if anyone took it harder than anyone today,
38:47it would probably be Blaise.
38:50The standard here is, you think the top standard in the UK,
38:55what that is, imagine that times, like, a thousand.
38:58Yep.
39:00We can walk away from this just knowing the standard,
39:02knowing how hard we have to work now.
39:04I don't know what to think of, like, what she said to me.
39:08What did you agree with her?
39:09Well, that I was the best singer and the best dancer.
39:11Because I, like I said, I don't agree.
39:14So it's like...
39:15Hmm.
39:16I genuinely wasn't expecting that today.
39:18Mainly because, like, through college, like, in my training,
39:22I've always kind of been that guy in the back.
39:26I was never, you know, that front-center guy
39:28that they loved and they thought was amazing.
39:30Don't put yourself down about it.
39:32In this situation, she said that you were the best in both aspects.
39:36Hmm.
39:37In K-pop.
39:38I've got very different ideas of a performer and an artist
39:44than what is idolised here.
39:47From that, we can all gauge what it means,
39:52what she's looking for in a K-pop idol.
39:55I'm pretty confident in my perception of performance and abilities.
40:00And I know that, at heart, I'm my own artist.
40:04Should we go back to what she said?
40:06She said that you guys were terrible.
40:08We need to rethink this.
40:09Even if you don't agree, like, what she says is fact.
40:11We're in her territory.
40:12Oh, she hates us.
40:13Oh, no.
40:1650 minutes later, Dawn and Russ from management return.
40:24Wow.
40:25Wow, yeah.
40:26Yeah.
40:27Yeah.
40:30Well, how did you think it went?
40:33Bad.
40:34Bad, yeah.
40:35Yeah.
40:36Yeah.
40:37I think that's been a reality check.
40:39Yeah, it was hard.
40:42We've got to go away, re-evaluate everything.
40:46The ultimate goal here is to impress Heejin.
40:50And one of her notes back to us was,
40:52I didn't go so hard because I didn't want to make them cry.
40:55And Blaise, um, look, she doesn't feel that you've listened enough to her today.
41:04She's so important that when you are asked or told something to do, you really take her on board.
41:09We're not going to sugarcoat anything because there's a lot at stake. There's a lot at stake here.
41:19Mediocrity doesn't cut it.
41:22Unless you're the best, they won't put their name to you.
41:26You have to try harder.
41:27Harder, harder.
41:28Harder, harder.
41:32Next time.
41:33I'm just gonna show you what I mean.
41:35I'm not going to cry.
41:36I'm not going to cry.
41:37I'm not going to cry.
41:38I'm not going to cry.
41:39But the feeling of being angry.
41:40So we'll be getting angry.
41:41I won't be able to make a decision in the future.
41:48For me, this is terrifying.
41:50500 school kids, eyes on me.
41:54What have we got, bro? Is it tonsilitis?
41:56It's contagious.
41:58My big insecurity is that I'm not wanted here.
42:01If you listen and say,
42:03I don't think that's right, but I don't think that's it.
42:06It's just like this.
42:07If you say this,
42:08I don't have to do this in Korea.
42:38It's aandovery commentary on the show.
42:50The Definitely Dimensions
42:53zu replaced music 강ноzu.
42:57Probably not from one of my favorite bosses,
42:59but from the diamond team,
