00:00Our only choice was to list him or take him home on hospice.
00:02I'm literally holding my child's heart in my hands.
00:06You okay, buddy? Huh?
00:08These tubes right here connect into his stomach and they run all the way up to his heart.
00:14And that's what keeps it leading him.
00:16And it's connected to this machine, which keeps it running.
00:21That's keeping him alive.
00:23But if he wants any chance at a life outside the hospital, what he needs is a donor heart.
00:28Abram was born with a condition called HLHS, which is hyperplastic left heart syndrome.
00:33Usually they can reroute the baby's heart with three open heart surgeries to work from the right side.
00:37But Abram's heart was so underdeveloped, they couldn't do that.
00:40So our only choice was to list him or take him home on hospice.
00:43And hospice wasn't an option.
00:45They visit him in the hospital every day, knowing that the only way they'll be able to take him home
00:49is with another baby's heart beating in his chest.
00:53Yeah, you're doing so good.
00:56Yeah, just my mom.
00:59Yeah.
00:59Did you smile?
01:01What?
01:02Oh, you're giving me kisses?
01:03Yeah.
01:04There's some kisses.
01:05Yeah.
01:06What?
01:07Is that right?
01:09She's five months old today.
01:11Yeah.
01:11Who's five months old today?
01:14Yeah?
01:15Look at you.
01:17You're doing so good.
01:20He's a big boy.
01:21I know you are.
01:25I know.
01:27Abram's rocking in his chair.
01:30This is Berlin.
01:31This thing is huge now.
01:32He had a smaller one.
01:34That's his heart.
01:34It's literally pumping.
01:36There's arrows.
01:37One goes up.
01:38One goes out.
01:39Okay, buddy.
01:40All right.
01:40All right.
01:46He's a gimme-go.
01:49Hold on, buddy.
01:50Hey.
01:53Hey.
01:53Hey.
01:54Hey.
01:55Hey.
01:57Hold on, buddy.
02:00Hold on, buddy.
02:02Hold on.
02:03You're almost on hand.
02:04After an agonizing wait, they finally got the news they were hoping for.
02:08In 10 months, we got that call.
02:10You got a stone in our heart.
02:11I know, baby.
02:13Mom, it's right here.
02:15I'm so sorry.
02:17I love you.
02:19For Mom, the weight of what another family sacrificed to save her son was indescribable.
02:29Oh, goodness.
02:32So beautiful.
02:34And finally, after 11 months in the hospital, he was able to leave for the very first time.
02:43Finally got to walk out of that hospital with him instead of having to leave him.
02:47The first time he felt sunshine, felt the air.
02:50Like, it was wild.
02:52Been waiting to make this for a long, long time.
02:55This is his Berlin.
02:56The one that he had that kept him alive for so long.
02:59And that's because of a donor that gave me the most priceless gift you give anybody.
03:08till the end.
03:08But then he got to walk out of that hospital.
03:12He's about to walk out of that hospital for some friends and
03:16and everybody.
03:17So wonderful.
03:17And I love that I have already known that all of him is going to be in forest.
