This is the sixth film Jones has worked with Guillermo del Toro on.

00:00You may not know it, but you are looking at the star of the most nominated film, 13 nominations, Doug Jones.

00:07Thank you so much for joining us. Can you explain how you transformed into a very different creature?

00:14It was a combination. I call a suit something you slip into and zip up the back.

00:18And a makeup, something glued onto you or airbrushed on you or painted on you.

00:21So it was a combination of both. I was glued in, I was zipped up the back, I was mechanical bits that made my gills.

00:27Many working pieces and parts and some CG enhancements afterwards to make the eyes move and articulate.

00:33How does it feel to be under all that?

00:35Exactly how you think it would. It is hotter than you want, it's heavier than you want.

00:39I don't have my own hands, I got webbed fingers, I can't use a phone, I can't get my own snacks.

00:43No, you become a nursing home patient, but when you see the finished product it's like, oh, now that's why I made all the sacrifices.

00:50Well, another reason though I would guess why you made all the sacrifices is that you go back with Guillermo del Toro,

00:56all the way to, I think, Mimic?

00:58I have been so blessed the last 20 years and doing six movies and a TV series with that man.

01:04He keeps coming back around for me, so he can answer better than I can.

01:08I can't say, well, the reason he loves me in his movies is because I'm just so hot and awesome.

01:13I can't say that, but he is a collector of people that he loves working with.

01:20And thank heaven I've just been part of that.

01:22And it's not just loyalty, he gathers people around him that he trusts.

01:27And he loves actors that bring something to the table of their own.

01:30And apparently he must think I do that, so God bless him for that.
