00:00la palabra el señor Pete Hexet, secretario de guerra de los Estados Unidos de América.
00:18Bueno, President Abinader, Mr. President, thank you for greeting us today.
00:23Thank you for welcoming us to your beautiful country and this beautiful room.
00:28President Trump would love this room, by the way.
00:33I'm glad to be in Santo Domingo with you here today and reaffirm our strong partnership and
00:39cooperation.
00:40We had a fantastic meeting, both countries.
00:44We have an incredible ambassador here.
00:45You have a wonderful staff.
00:46I look forward to meeting more extensively with your minister of defense, but it's a great
00:52partnership and a long-standing one between the United States and the Dominican Republic.
00:58And I want to thank the Dominican people for their tremendous hospitality.
01:03My wife and I realized we were here about six years ago visiting your beautiful location.
01:08We'll have to come back again.
01:11And I was reminded that when I served in the New York and New Jersey National Guard as
01:17a young lieutenant, I served with a lot of troops that had come from the Dominican Republic.
01:22And they were always some of the most wonderful human beings, with the best and biggest personalities,
01:28who were great soldiers, so I have a great affinity.
01:37The United States and the Dominican Republic share several things, many things in common.
01:42First, like the United States, the Dominican Republic understands the importance of border
01:48security to national security, that if you do not have a secure border, a sovereign country,
01:54you don't have a secure nation.
01:57President Trump talks about that, your president talks about that, and never hesitates to do what
02:02is necessary to protect his citizens.
02:06In America, we call that America first.
02:08I'm not sure if you call it the Dominican Republican first, but you should.
02:13But it's never been America alone for us, nor is it for you.
02:17Partner nations that are willing to do the same should work together.
02:21And that's what today is all about.
02:22Second, the Dominican Republic also understands the importance of standing up to narco-terrorists
02:29and narco-traffickers who flood our countries with drugs and violence.
02:34We must meet narco-terrorists and their illegal activities with strength and swift action.
02:41It's the only language they understand, strength and swift action.
02:46To keep our citizens safe and ensure that our countries continue to prosper.
02:52And when it comes to drugs, as you know, as we know in the United States, it's about
02:56saving lives as well.
02:57It's about ending violence and saving lives.
03:00Tens of thousands of American lives will be saved because of the efforts of President
03:05Trump, our military, your country, and this partnership.
03:09And third, the Dominican Republic has made itself a regional leader, a regional leader ready
03:15and willing to take on hard challenges.
03:18That's why I'm here today.
03:20That's why we decided to come here first, because we recognize the leadership of your
03:25president and this country.
03:27Of course, that includes as well standing up to predatory practices from other nations and
03:42leading international coalitions to improve security in Haiti, which is also something
03:47we discussed.
03:48The Dominican Republic has stepped up.
03:52And so we look to the Dominican Republic to continue to lead in the fight against narco-terrorists,
03:57which the president laid out so clearly and so well.
04:01The president of the United States, President Trump, has designated these as foreign terrorist
04:06organizations, designated terrorist organizations, narco-traffickers, hell-bent on bringing violence
04:13and drugs to countries in the region and to the American people.
04:17But I want those watching who see the narco-terrorist drug boats blowing up to understand that we're
04:25deadly serious about this mission.
04:27But we're also deadly serious in the way that we undertake it.
04:32We have the best intelligence, the best lawyers, the best process, so that we know inside
04:39these networks and these organizations where they're leaving from, where they're going,
04:43what they're bringing, what their intentions are, and who they represent.
04:46And in understanding that, in waging this war on narco-terrorists, we're willing to go
04:52on the offense.
04:53Go on the offense in a way that changes the dynamic for the entire region and we think can
04:58bring safety, stability, and security to our partners.
05:01So I want to thank you, Mr. President, for supporting what is a temporary deployment of U.S. service
05:07members and aircraft conducting Operation Southern Spear.
05:11Small footprint, temporary, fully respecting your sovereignty and your laws and all the dynamics
05:17here in the Dominican Republic.
05:19It's a great partnership and truly a joint effort between our two countries against narco-trafficking
05:28and narco-terrorism.
05:29I think a model for the region, a model we hope to build upon with other countries that
05:34want to lock shields and arms with us to ensure that the narco-terrorists who have terrorized
05:40our organizations in our countries, they're the ones put on notice.
05:44We're partnering together with more assets and more partnership to ensure they are stopped.
05:49The Department of War will stand by your side, working with you for mutual benefit.
05:57And I think that's an important difference of how we operate.
06:00It's not just about what you need or what we need, it's what can we do together, aggressively,
06:07using the assets and advantages that we have to address the issues of our time.
06:13We stand ready with you, Mr. President, to meet this challenge and to defeat this threat.
06:18And I'd be remiss, you know, my wife and I started this day today in prayer.
06:24I would be remiss if I didn't make an appeal to God in the process as well.
06:30I would note that the Dominican Republic, I didn't know this, but I found out on the way
06:34here is the only country with a cross and a Bible on its flag.
06:46And as a Christian, I love that.
06:48And you know, the left will always want to deny it in our country that America's founding
06:54generation and founding principles came from Christianity, from the Bible.
06:59We were founded as a Christian nation.
07:02George Washington appealed to heaven.
07:04Our soldiers appealed to God and his providence.
07:07At the Pentagon, we started a weekly, excuse me, monthly Christian prayer service.
07:12We're not afraid of recognizing the role that faith, that our Christian faith plays in the
07:19conduct of what we do.
07:22So we join you in this effort, a righteous one, I believe, with an appeal to God that
07:27we may do it right and that we might do right by our populations as well, who deserve good,
07:32strong, clear, constitutional leadership.
07:36So thank you for your meaningful conversation today, Mr. President, and the partnership that
07:42we are able to undertake.
07:43God bless you and your great country.
07:44Thank you.
07:45God bless you and your great country.
