The Real Reason Regina King And Malcolm-Jamal Warner Split

00:00Most celebrity relationships come and go in the blink of an eye.

00:04Case in point, Regina King and Malcolm Jamal Warner,

00:08who only had a two-year run before ending their romance in March 2013.

00:12When they were still an item, they lived together with King's son from her previous marriage.

00:17The former child stars knew each other back in the 80s,

00:20when King starred on the sitcom 227 and Warner portrayed Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show.

00:30Although they had been friends for several decades,

00:37King and Warner didn't start dating until 2011. The next year,

00:41she told Parade that the romance had come about at just the right time. As she put it,

00:46I believe the universe has a plan, and we probably wouldn't have been ready years ago.

00:51We both had to do whatever we had to do to be ready for each other now.

00:55Although their relationship certainly made headlines,

00:58it was their breakup that really caused a commotion. So why did they call it quits?

01:03According to Us Weekly, Warner called things off totally and completely out of the blue,

01:08and the move left her stunned. Right then and there, he allegedly asked King and

01:13her son to promptly move out of their shared home, too. A supposed insider told the magazine,

01:18She thought this would really last for good. They were so close as a family. They knew each other

01:23forever, and then out of nowhere, he dumped her. She's still confused and hurt and doesn't know what

01:29happened. As to why Warner ended things, the source only told the magazine that,

01:34he wasn't feeling it anymore. He later opened up about the split to Sister to Sister magazine,

01:40saying that,

01:40"...all relationships have their share of obstacles, and you just try not to have yours

01:45plastered everywhere. I mean, you try not to date in the spotlight. Unfortunately,

01:50our breakup got more coverage than our being together, and that kind of sucked because we

01:55spent so much time trying to keep it out of the public eye."

01:58Meanwhile, the same Us Weekly source claimed that,

02:01King is still really disappointed that it ended and with how Warner did it.

02:05And honestly, we can't blame her. Whatever happened, it sounds pretty bad.

02:09Us Weekly caught up with King in January 2015, two years after Warner reportedly ended their

02:15relationship. King revealed to the publication that an ex once dumped her on Valentine's Day.

02:21Here's how she told the cringeworthy tale,

02:23"...someone broke up with me on Valentine's. D**k. Yeah, I'm serious. Then he actually sent me

02:29flowers that said, I still love you. And I threw the flowers in the trash,

02:33and he was upset that I threw them in the trash, and I was like, f**k you."

02:37King didn't name names, but she hinted that readers could probably guess

02:40exactly who she was talking about. She told the publication,

02:45"...they'll know. I love flowers, but he thought that was right. What an a**, right?"

02:49That sounds like a seriously wretched way to end a relationship, doesn't it?

02:54Even though King seemingly blasted Warner in that Us Weekly interview, it sounds like he has no hard

02:59feelings. He even congratulated her when she won an Emmy for her performance in American Crime.

03:05Taking to Twitter, he wrote,

03:06"...thank you for representing and affirming that integrity,

03:10dignity, and success can co-exist."

03:12When he spoke to Sister 2 Sister magazine, Werner seemed to imply that he was at least on

03:17good terms with King's son, Ian Alexander Jr., telling the publication,

03:22"...we're all very cool."

03:23Judging by her remarks, King might have a different take on things.

03:27Of course, we highly doubt she's still dwelling on her former relationship with Warner these days.

03:33She's probably much too busy collecting award statues. On top of winning two Emmys and a slew

03:39of other awards over the years, her performance in If Beale Street Could Talk won her an Academy

03:44Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2019. That means that, as of the making of this video,

03:50she's halfway to an EGOT. Who needs Valentine's Day anyway?
