00:01Almost two weeks ago, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump tested positive

00:05for COVID-19.

00:07As increasing cases spread within their inner circle, from Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany

00:12to former White House advisor Kellyanne Conway, the president's young son, Barron Trump, appeared

00:17to have escaped contact.

00:19Unfortunately, on October 14th, Melania Trump revealed that Barron had tested positive for

00:25COVID-19.

00:26In a statement, Melania revealed that after receiving her own diagnosis, she feared for

00:30her son.

00:31"'Naturally, my mind went immediately to our son.

00:34To our great relief, he tested negative.

00:37But again, as so many parents have thought over the past several months, I couldn't help

00:41but think, what about tomorrow or the next day?'

00:44Unfortunately, Barron's next test came up positive for COVID-19.

00:48Melania continued,

00:49"'Luckily, he is a strong teenager and exhibited no symptoms.

00:54In one way, I was glad the three of us went through this at the same time, so we could

00:59take care of one another and spend time together.'

01:02He has since tested negative."

01:04In light of Melania's statements reporters asked the president for an update on Barron,

01:09Trump answered that Barron was, quote, fine.

01:11In the past, Donald Trump has downplayed the risk of COVID-19 presented for young people,

01:16according to The Washington Post.

01:18She incorrectly claimed that, in some states, the virus affected nobody.

01:22"'Below the age of 18, like nobody, they have a strong immune system.

01:28Who knows?'

01:29In the same statement where she confirmed Barron's positive test results, Melania Trump shared

01:34inside information about her own struggle with the coronavirus.

01:37While her case wasn't severe enough to warrant moving to the hospital, as her husband did,

01:41it seems her case was still hard to endure.

01:44The first lady said,

01:45"'I experienced body aches, a cough, and headaches, and felt extremely tired most of

01:50the time.'"

01:51However, while the president opted for a cocktail of experimental drugs, the first lady, quote,

01:57"...chose to go a more natural route in terms of medicine, opting for more vitamins and

02:01healthy food."

02:03According to the first lady, her recovery was a time of reflection.

02:07She said,

02:08"'It was an unfamiliar feeling for me to be the patient instead of a person trying to encourage

02:13our nation to stay healthy and safe.

02:15It was me being taken care of now, and getting first-hand experience with all that COVID-19

02:20can do.'"

02:21Trump also thanked Dr. Conley and his team, and expressed her admiration for caretakers

02:26and first responders.

02:27As CNN notes, Melania recorded several PSAs encouraging mask-wearing and observing social

02:33distancing guidelines.

02:34However, she has appeared at a number of events without a mask, including the first presidential

02:39debate and, of course, the super-spreader event in the Rose Garden where many were infected.

02:44When Donald and Melania Trump initially released their positive COVID-19 test results on October

02:492nd, the First Lady's chief of staff, Stephanie Grisham, reported that Barron had tested negative.

02:55It's unsurprising that the Trumps waited to share Barron's later positive test until after

02:59his recovery, considering that an emphasis had been put on the 14-year-old's privacy since

03:04soon after his father assumed office.

03:06A statement released in January 2017 read,

03:09"'It is a long-standing tradition that the children of presidents are afforded the opportunity

03:13to grow up outside of the political spotlight.

03:16The White House fully expects this tradition to continue.

03:19We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.'"

03:22The statement came after a number of commentators joked about Barron's appearance at his father's

03:26inauguration, including a Saturday Night Live writer who was suspended for her tweet.

03:31The quest to ensure Barron Trump's privacy has acquired some unlikely allies, including

03:35former first daughter Chelsea Clinton.

03:38Though Clinton has been a vocal critic of Donald Trump's politics, she has been a staunch

03:42advocate of the press and public keeping Barron out of the fray.

03:46Shortly after the inauguration, Clinton wrote,

03:49"'Barron Trump deserves the chance every child does.

03:52To be a kid.'"

03:53According to Melania Trump's statement, the whole family is on the mend from their brush with

03:58COVID-19.

03:59The president has already returned to the campaign trail, making an appearance in Florida.
