Algeria, China deepen energy ties with major Arzew refinery upgrade
Transcript
00:00At the heart of Algeria's industrial coastline, the Arzu refinery is set for its most significant
00:12transformation in years.
00:14Sonatrack's deal with Sinopec is a critical upgrade designed to modernize production and
00:20meet rising domestic demand.
00:22The Chinese contractor Sinopec is a strategic partner of Sinotrack for midstream activities
00:30recognized as a major player in EPCC-type projects.
00:34It has extensive experience in the engineering and construction of oil and gas facilities
00:38in China and internationally.
00:42Under the contract, Sinopec will construct the new unit over a 30-month period.
00:48Once operational, Algeria's gasoline output is expected to jump from 550,000 tons to 1.2 million tons per year.
01:00We express our deep gratitude to the Sonatrack team for their constant support and close collaboration,
01:06which gives us great confidence in every project.
01:09We will mobilize our best resources and make every necessary effort to ensure the success of this project.
01:15This agreement follows an earlier $850 million exploration and development contract
01:21ordered to the Chinese company for work at the Hassi Birkan North Perimeter.
01:27The project is widely viewed as a strategic boost to energy security across the Mediterranean basin and Europe.
01:35Algeria is an important energy player in the Mediterranean basin and a key energy supplier for Europe.
01:41The Chinese-Algerian cooperation is expected to significantly strengthen Algeria's energy sector,
01:48especially in the recently discovered basins, as well as in exploration, drilling, and even production.
01:56Energy experts point out that Sinopec is only one of several Chinese companies now expanding their footprint in Algeria.
02:04There are also other projects between the two groups, Sinopec and CNPC, in joint ventures in Sonatrack.
02:13This is what has made Chinese companies among Algeria's most important petroleum partners.
02:17With the global oil demand holding steady and regional markets evolving,
02:24Algeria is betting on foreign partnerships to expand its infrastructure and secure long-term energy security.
02:31The latest deal with Sinopec underscores their strategy, combining international expertise with national priorities.
