00:03:02Hi, Greg.
00:03:03I am exactly on this 5G Express, linking Beijing and also Zhang Jiakou, which you just introduced.
00:03:11I'm now joined in the studio by Dong Jun, our sports commentator.
00:03:15And later I will also be joined by our reporters who are now scattered in different train carriages on this 5G Express.
00:03:23We are now, in fact, in Qinghe Station in Beijing.
00:03:26The train is officially in service today, carrying us on board for the very first trip.
00:03:32And this is the very first time in the world to do ultra high definition live streaming on a moving high speed train.
00:03:43So this is very special.
00:03:45Stay tuned with us because we're going to test all the technologies that are available here.
00:03:49And I'm staying in this 5G studio.
00:03:52Later, we're going to have experts to introduce to us what it means.
00:03:55But now, Dong Jun, it's good to see you since 2008 Beijing Olympics.
00:04:00Thirteen and a half years.
00:04:02Already.
00:04:03After so many years, we are still very crazy about the Olympics.
00:04:06Absolutely.
00:04:07I mean, after the Winter Games and also the Paralympic Winter Games, Beijing already hosted by then already five of the Olympics.
00:04:17Yeah, we have to say we're so lucky, you know, our hometown can host, can be the very first city in the world to host both.
00:04:24Yes, indeed.
00:04:25And we are staying on this 5G Express.
00:04:29In fact, we are having a whole train of reporters already with us today.
00:04:34So it's not just ordinary passengers.
00:04:37We are so lucky to have this exclusive privilege to be on the same train with those who are inside the closed loop.
00:04:47Yes, indeed.
00:04:48You can see we have quite a spacious place here.
00:04:52But in fact, in other carriages on this train, it is very crowded.
00:04:56A lot of reporters already begin to talk about the story.
00:04:59And now we want to go to our reporters at this moment.
00:05:05Zhao Yunfei and Chen Ziyuan have found their footages from different parts of the train.
00:05:11Let's hear what they had to say.
00:05:13I'm here in Qinghe railway station.
00:05:17I'm right outside of the 5G Express train.
00:05:20And it's only one of its kind here in China.
00:05:23What makes it special is because it has full 5G coverage.
00:05:27Now let's take a look at the pattern outside of the train.
00:05:31Look at this.
00:05:32This is a sports item.
00:05:34A winter sports item.
00:05:36Definitely skiing.
00:05:37So let me show you more about what does this train look like.
00:05:40This is a very cool model, right?
00:05:43So this train has a theme color of blue, which is a very wintry scene color and also has Olympic atmosphere.
00:05:52So this train is actually specially designed for the Winter Olympics.
00:05:57As I said, I'm here at the Qinghe railway station.
00:06:00This is a very pivotal transportation port that connects the Chinese capital with the northwestern city of Lanzhou.
00:06:07During the Olympics, it will serve the athletes and the spectators.
00:06:11So it has carried out a series of epidemic prevention plans.
00:06:16For example, during the Olympics, the athletes will enter the station from the north gate
00:06:21and the spectators will enter from the south.
00:06:23And that fulfills the closed loop management plan.
00:06:27Now I'm about to board the train and the train is about to leave.
00:06:31And the destination is Tai Zicheng Railway Station,
00:06:34which is quite close to the Olympic venues there at Zhangjiakou City.
00:06:39Now I'm about to board the train and take a ride to the Tai Zicheng Railway Station.
00:06:43I'll see you quite soon.
00:06:45It is the first of this kind to realize 5G coverage and 4K transmission on a high-speed train.
00:06:50Speaking of driving and operation of the train,
00:06:52it will also be the first time that the train can be operated under autopilot,
00:06:57reaching a speed of 350 kilometers per hour.
00:07:01It will only take about 30 minutes to travel from Beijing to Yanqing
00:07:05and another 30 minutes to Zhangjiakou, the third Olympic event zone.
00:07:09Among three trains traveling on the route,
00:07:11one has been transformed to serve the needs of the Olympic Games and Transit.
00:07:15In terms of the operation itself,
00:07:17the train is equipped with automatic driving
00:07:19and an emergency self-propelled driving function.
00:07:22The lead vehicle is equipped with a battery to enable start and stop capability
00:07:26when navigating a 30-degree curve.
00:07:29For more on operation of the train,
00:07:31I've spoken to Wang Haithao, the driver,
00:07:33on how they are working to ensure a safe and steady riding experience in the upcoming Winter Games.
00:07:38To ensure safe operation of the train during the Winter Games,
00:07:45we have taken classes on theory and practice.
00:07:48We have been trained on how to respond to blizzards and irregular operations.
00:07:52We have studied the route between Beijing and Zhangjiakou
00:07:55and have familiarized ourselves in the past two years
00:07:58so that we can drive the train more steadily
00:08:00and the passengers will have a comfortable riding experience.
00:08:04They have set up emergency plans in case of severe weather conditions.
00:08:08Even though the speed will be compromised,
00:08:10they say they hope everyone will have a safe and warm ride in the upcoming Winter Games.
00:08:21We're going to have more information for you about this very special 5G Express.
00:08:27But for now, let's go to the preparations about Games.
00:08:30Less than 30 days to go before the Beijing Winter Olympics.
00:08:33Earlier, I interviewed Zhao Weidong, who is a spokesperson of Bocock.
00:08:37He's been talking about safety facing the pandemic.
00:08:40He's also talking about how to serve the media in the best way.
00:08:45Take a listen.
00:08:47On September 30th, along with the IOC and the IPC, we announced key policies on epidemic prevention and control,
00:09:02which clearly state that tickets will not be sold to spectators outside China
00:09:06or those subject to epidemic control measures within China.
00:09:09In addition, we issued two editions of the playbooks on October 25th and December 13th.
00:09:17These two playbooks have set up all the specific measures for the prevention and control of the epidemic.
00:09:23For example, we have set up several key measures such as the remote prevention and control measures.
00:09:29In terms of remote control and prevention for inbound personnel, they have to carry out health monitoring at least 14 days before their departure for China.
00:09:39They need to report their health results on an app called My 2022 every day.
00:09:44They need to conduct two nucleic acid tests within 96 hours before their departure.
00:09:50They can only board the plane when the results are negative.
00:09:55Moreover, we believe that vaccines are an important means of epidemic prevention.
00:10:09So this time we have also clarified policies on vaccination.
00:10:13Except for a few medically-exempt athletes who can enter the closed loop management directly after being assessed by the experts,
00:10:20all other inbound personnel have...
00:10:23And that is Zhao Weidong, the spokesperson for Volcock for the year 2022 Beijing Winter Games.
00:10:44And now I'm sitting in the 5G studio joined by Dongjun and a new guest,
00:10:50who is a Qiyi engineer from the lab for 5G media application with CMG's Technology Bureau.
00:10:57It's so wonderful to see you.
00:10:59I'm very happy to meet you.
00:11:01Hello,é”æ–‡è€ćž«.
00:11:02Hello.
00:11:03Today we will talk a lot about technology.
00:11:08It is my great honor.
00:11:09We are looking forward to it.
00:11:11One minute ago from the launching of this express train,
00:11:16the express train is equipped with 5G technology.
00:11:21And not only the train, but also the stations that we pass through,
00:11:2511 stations along the way,
00:11:27all being equipped with automatic equipment and also guiding systems.
00:11:33In fact, in front of us, this is the beautiful model of the train.
00:11:40You can see on this table.
00:11:42And we are in the carriage number eight.
00:11:47There are eight carriages.
00:11:48We're almost at the end of it.
00:11:50This is called Rejuvenation.
00:11:53This is a very special train.
00:11:56And this is going to cover about 175 kilometers today.
00:12:02But overall, this train could ride about 350 kilometers every hour.
00:12:10It's very impressive.
00:12:12Dongjuan, last time in 2008,
00:12:15we never had the opportunity to take a train like this.
00:12:19We stayed in a never moving studio inside the building.
00:12:23Now we're mobile.
00:12:25Yes, indeed.
00:12:26But I know Mr. Qi, you've been here on this train several times.
00:12:30In fact, many times.
00:12:32You've been here on this train several times.
00:12:34You've done several times this train.
00:12:37Yes.
00:12:38How do you feel?
00:12:39So for the train itself, it's quite stable,
00:12:41especially when we're running in a high-speed railway.
00:12:43Stable.
00:12:44So you promise it to be stable.
00:12:45Yeah.
00:12:46So it's going to be live streaming,
00:12:49ultra-high definition on a moving high-speed train.
00:12:53This is going to be amazing.
00:12:55Indeed, because we are using the 5G network,
00:13:09so we want to provide the ultra-HD streaming.
00:13:14So this is the top priority.
00:13:18So now we are at the Qinghe Station.
00:13:20About one minute, I was earlier told that this express train
00:13:24is going to set off toward Zhang Jiakou.
00:13:28Why going to Zhang Jiakou?
00:13:30People are interested, Dongjuan.
00:13:33Why Beijing is co-hosting this Winter Olympics with Zhang Jiakou?
00:13:38Tell us more about how the venues are being located
00:13:42and how different categories are going to be taking place
00:13:45during the Winter Games.
00:13:47I think the consideration is both historical as well as contemporary.
00:13:52Contemporarily, it's becoming very, very popular and even fashionable
00:13:57for several cities collectively hosting one mega huge sporting event.
00:14:03It's becoming the fashion now.
00:14:05And historically, Zhang Jiakou, not so far away from downtown Beijing,
00:14:09has been hosting and generating and developing winter sports,
00:14:15especially snow sports for quite a while, several decades already.
00:14:19And now, finally, it grabbed the opportunity to prove its value.
00:14:27And also, Beijing can take this opportunity to develop the infrastructure
00:14:32of communications, build construction, as well as transportation.
00:14:37And it's beautifully reflected on this train, in fact, right?
00:14:40But, you know, when we talk about the ice and snow sports,
00:14:43in fact, there are three areas of the 2022 Beijing Winter Games.
00:14:48Oh, we are moving, aren't we?
00:14:51Wow, we are setting off toward Zhang Jiakou.
00:14:54As you said, it is stable.
00:14:56It is stable.
00:14:57It is, but it is very stable.
00:14:58Yes.
00:14:59It is.
00:15:00The faster stable.
00:15:03Faster, the more stable.
00:15:05Okay, we are looking forward to it.
00:15:06So, there are three zones, in fact, in Beijing, Zhang Jiakou, and Yanqing.
00:15:11Beijing is more ice sports.
00:15:14Ice sports or the snow sports?
00:15:1837 sports.
00:15:19Primarily, ice on ice.
00:15:21Okay.
00:15:22With only a few exceptions, the snow, big air.
00:15:25And also, Yanqing and Zhang Jiakou are mainly ice sports.
00:15:29And this train links three locations, from downtown Beijing to Yanqing,
00:15:34and then finally to Zhang Jiakou.
00:15:37You know, this train is actually going to run about 350 kilometers per hour.
00:15:44So, this is the specialty about this train, 5G Express.
00:15:49Not only that, the ultra-high-definition live streaming
00:15:54is going to take place continuously along this journey on a fast-moving express train.
00:16:01I am very fascinated by this.
00:16:03This is a clear day.
00:16:04Today's weather is really nice.
00:16:07Very good weather.
00:16:08We can see great visibility from the window of the train.
00:16:13I am sure we are going to cut off to some of those footage for you.
00:16:18We are passing through the Qinghe Station, which is the first station we are experiencing today.
00:16:24But along this long route, actually 11 stations.
00:16:28We are going to cover just part of it today, just to test the technologies.
00:16:33So, for the 5G technology, and this time we also have the 5G studio.
00:16:40And people are expecting, like, what kind of different experiences we will bring to us.
00:16:46Can you tell us more?
00:16:48So, actually in the studio, we have a 5G network in the Beijing Zhangjiaqo High Speed Railway.
00:16:57So, the train is in a moving state.
00:17:02So, from Beijing to Zhangjiaqo, during the travel, actually we are able to provide the production for the programs.
00:17:11And because of the bandwidth of the 5G network, then also, it is the first time for us to stream the Ultra HD videos.
00:17:24For now, I am joined by a reporter of ours, Zhao Yunfei.
00:17:28He is at a different carriage.
00:17:30Let's see what he has for us now.
00:17:33Yunfei, go ahead.
00:17:35Hi there, Tianwei.
00:17:36You know what?
00:17:37This is one of the most interesting live shots I have ever done.
00:17:40We are in the same train, but I am actually in a different carriage.
00:17:44I am going to show you what it is like in a different carriage.
00:17:47First of all, I want to show you the signal signs right above me.
00:17:50It says, next station, Tai Zicheng.
00:17:53Well, later on, it will be changed to, see, Chinese.
00:17:57So, a lot of the signs over here on this train are bilingual, Chinese and English.
00:18:02Because this train is definitely designated, designed for the Winter Olympics.
00:18:06So, there are a lot of English languages over here.
00:18:09Another thing, I want to show you the beautiful sights over here.
00:18:12You can get a very well-wintry view over here.
00:18:16So, where you have just get departed over here, and then you can see a beautiful scene right outside.
00:18:21Now, the Beijing to Zhang Jiakou Railway has a very historical background.
00:18:28It was the first self-developed train that China has ever made.
00:18:33It has a history of over 100 years old.
00:18:36So, definitely, there are many, many stories along the Beijing to Zhang Jiakou Railway.
00:18:41They have overcome many, many technical difficulties in the mountainous area.
00:18:47I want to show you this skiing equipment locker over here.
00:18:50Because, certainly, this train is designed for the Winter Olympics.
00:18:53So, it's also a very important commute tool for ski lovers.
00:18:57So, this is the place where, actually, they can put in their snowboards.
00:19:00Just like buckling up their snowboard like this.
00:19:04And there we go.
00:19:05So, for people who like skiing or snowboarding, certainly, this is a good place for them to store their belongings.
00:19:13And now, given the fact that this is the train for the Winter Olympics, a lot of the things really are visible.
00:19:22What I've shown you is something that's really visible.
00:19:24But what is being invisible is the full 5G coverage.
00:19:28The reason how you can see me doing a live shot, high-definition transmission, is just because of the 5G network.
00:19:35So, there are so many possibilities going on this train.
00:19:39And there's, see, there are many, many reporters passing by.
00:19:42And they have invited so many reporters on this train.
00:19:45Anyways, speaking of reporters, there is a press card.
00:19:50Later on, my colleague, Chen Ziyuan, is going to introduce more over there.
00:19:54All right.
00:19:55Too crowded.
00:19:56Back to you.
00:19:58Thank you very much, Yunfei.
00:20:00Certainly, a lot of fascinating stuff already there in the carriage where you are.
00:20:06Really appreciate it.
00:20:07Bring us more when you have it.
00:20:08You know, when it comes to the 5G technologies and how it is going to be done within this 5G studio,
00:20:15we have to go to the experts.
00:20:16So, Chi is still with us.
00:20:18So, I would like to know more.
00:20:19You know, 5G express 350 kilometers an hour.
00:20:23And we wanted to have the ultra-high-definition transmission live stream stable all the time.
00:20:32How will that happen?
00:20:34Well, for the 5G network, when we are building the 5G studio, we mentioned that we have to achieve the 350 kilometers per hour.
00:20:46This is one of the challenges.
00:20:48And also, for the railway, we have over 100 tunnels and also some high land areas.
00:20:55And also, we have some soundproof equipment.
00:20:58And in the carriage, we also have some soundproof equipment.
00:21:01This will also minimize the transmission of the 5G signal.
00:21:05The 5G signal.
00:21:06We have to conquer all of those difficulties.
00:21:08So, this time, we have to figure out how to do it in the 5G studio.
00:21:13But how?
00:21:14That is the key issue, isn't it?
00:21:16Well, I would like to use one example.
00:21:19And in the carriage, we are using the mounted vehicle 5G antenna.
00:21:30So, by having that, we are able to connect the signal from outside.
00:21:35So, this is one point.
00:21:36And also, when we are passing the tunnel, for some of the communication carriers,
00:21:42they are building up a lot of the base station with the ICI cable.
00:21:49So, this will enable the 5G signal coming inside of the carriage.
00:21:55So, all of these are the issues we are conquering.
00:21:58You can see and hear my colleagues so vividly.
00:22:01Just as in the Beijing studio.
00:22:03This is amazing.
00:22:04I would love to be on this train.
00:22:06I really want to sit on this train.
00:22:08There will also be many from the world countries.
00:22:11There will also be athletes and coaches.
00:22:15Yes.
00:22:16So, there will be coaches and athletes coming from all over the world as well as journalists.
00:22:19I want to stay on this train.
00:22:21I don't want to go.
00:22:22I just want to sit on this train.
00:22:23I can see all of them, right?
00:22:25Yes.
00:22:26So, all the people coming from and to Beijing at Zhangjiaqo, they will take this Beijing Zhangjiaqo train.
00:22:33Wonderful. I want to stay on this train so that I can interview everybody.
00:22:35But, you know, it has a lot to do with whether this 5G studio will work.
00:22:44This 5G studio will work.
00:22:47Yes.
00:22:48Maybe you could tell us more about the 5G studio.
00:22:53How it works? How can we expect something different this time?
00:22:59So for the 5G HD studio, there are many features.
00:23:05First of all, we designed this studio for this high-speed railway.
00:23:12It is customized. For example, you could look at the location of the camera, the stage.
00:23:18All of these are fitting in for the train.
00:23:24And even though it is not quite spacious inside of the carriage,
00:23:27but still we have everything in place.
00:23:29For example, for the stage, lightning, and the audio, and the electricity,
00:23:34we have completed all of the construction of all of these facilities.
00:23:38So everything is in the studio. There are many functions.
00:23:41The 5G studio is set up by a China media group,
00:23:46and we want to share with all our partners around the world.
00:23:50So this studio is built by CMG,
00:23:53but we would like to share this studio with journalists from China and also from the world.
00:23:57Yes, we would like to share this studio with journalists from China and also from the world.
00:24:02How do you like that?
00:24:03Well, I'm jealous. For those who will hang around day by day here.
00:24:11Yes, indeed. So I want to thank you, Qi Yi, who is the head of the lab for 5G media application with CMG Technology Bureau.
00:24:20Really appreciate that. Really appreciate it.
00:24:23So I guess we are already having a lot of information bringing to you about how this 5G express works.
00:24:32We will later continue to discover other highlights of this train.
00:24:36And that's it for me now. And back to you, Greg, in the Beijing studio.
00:24:41Thank you very much, Tianwei. You all look very comfortable there, I must say.
00:24:45We'll catch up with you further down the line.
00:24:47Now you're watching CGTN's special program, the 5G express from Beijing to Zhang Jiakou.
00:24:53We're going to take a short break after which we'll tell you about one of the new venues for the Beijing Winter Olympics.
00:24:59Beijing, China's capital and its cultural nerve center. A modern metropolis with traditional roots.
00:25:20And now it becomes the first city in the world to host both summer and winter Olympics.
00:25:26After 14 years, the biggest sporting extravaganza returns to Beijing.
00:25:32Thousands of athletes from around the globe will compete in over 100 events at three zones.
00:25:38Cheered on by over 1.4 billion Chinese citizens and millions abroad, CGTN will bring you a ringside view of the historic event.
00:25:492022 Beijing Olympics, the games that matter on CGTN. See the difference.
00:25:56See the difference.
00:26:23Welcome back to CGTN's special program, the Winter Olympics 5G express from Beijing to Zhang Jiakou.
00:26:30Now, during the Winter Olympics, Zhang Jiakou will host a bunch of events including ski jumping, cross-country skiing, biathlon and freestyle skiing plus snowboarding.
00:26:41Now, here in front of me is one of the new state-of-the-art venues constructed specially for the games, the National Ski Jumping Center, nicknamed Snow Rui because it resembles a traditional Rui scepter, a Chinese talisman.
00:26:56Now, the venue has the largest number of projects and the highest technical difficulty of any of the new constructions for the games.
00:27:03It was built in an area where the natural shape of the land closely matches the requirements of the venue, which of course minimize damage to the environment during construction.
00:27:14Now, beginning on February 5th, it will host five ski jumping events plus the three Nordic combined events.
00:27:21Now, China's newest and arguably already biggest winter sports star is Gu Ailing.
00:27:28As a 17-year-old, she took the sport by storm, bursting onto the scene by winning two gold medals in women's slope style and halfpipe plus a bronze in the big air.
00:27:39She then followed that up by repeating the feat, winning the same two gold medals and bronze at the Freestyle Skiing World Championships.
00:27:50Now, 18 years old, the Chinese sensation has picked up right where she left off this season by winning five golds in one month, and she has a very real chance to claim all three golds at the Beijing Winter Olympics.
00:28:03Now, with less than two months to go until those aforementioned games, the last testing event was held at the Zhang Jiakou Competition Zone, when the National Biathlon Center welcomed technicians from around the world to prepare the venue.
00:28:17Ning Hong has more.
00:28:22Preparations for the Winter Olympics are almost complete.
00:28:25Over 30 technicians from eight countries are testing the ski tracks at the National Biathlon Center in Zhang Jiakou, just north of Beijing.
00:28:35This is the National Biathlon Center where we're seeing technicians and four runners are testing ski tracks and shooting range behind me.
00:28:43Eleven competitions will be held in this venue, including a biathlon competition and a cross-country skiing.
00:28:50Volunteers also preparing. There will be hundreds of volunteers working here during Winter Olympics.
00:28:57We'll stick to the spirit and vision of volunteers. I'm sure in their posts, the volunteers will exhibit the spirit of the Chinese youth.
00:29:08Paying special attention to the COVID-19 pandemic, the volunteer team is working closely to draft the detailed plans to minimize the risk of infection for athletes and audience.
00:29:20We will ensure that our volunteers will not work for over eight hours a day.
00:29:26After the testing events at the Zhang Jiakou Competition Zone are complete, the area will enter official Olympic period in January.
00:29:34Ning Hong, CGTN, Zhang Jiakou.
00:29:38Curling is the longest running competition at the Winter Olympics and it will start on February 2nd.
00:29:44That's two days before the opening ceremony and conclude on February 20th, the final day of the Games.
00:29:50The first event is mixed doubles, which consists of teams of two people, one man and one woman.
00:29:56And hosts China will open the round robin by taking on Switzerland at 8.05pm Beijing time.
00:30:03Beijing 2022 will be only the second Olympics in which mixed doubles curling has been contested.
00:30:09In Pyeongchang 2018, China came fourth place with their team of Wang Rei and Ba Deshin while Switzerland came second.
00:30:17So China can expect a difficult opening match.
00:30:21There are also the traditional men's and women's competition in which teams of four face off and all three curling events start with the same format.
00:30:30A round robin, then they move to the playoffs to decide the medalists.
00:30:34Now for more about curling here is a short introductory video that is part of our one minute, one sport series that will help get you up to speed with the basics of one of the oldest games on ice.
00:30:46I'm so glad to have a lot of ice.
00:30:51The final day, I'm a lot of ice.
00:30:52The final day is a culmination of a long history of the European Summer Festival.
00:30:58Oh yeah, it's more than a perfect amount of ice.
00:31:01But the first year, summer, we'll spend thechaun.
00:31:03The first time you have a full life and a full life together,
00:31:05There is a great opportunity for three months.
00:31:07The next year is a free draft one.
00:31:09The next year is a special difference,
00:31:11The next year, the next year is a special thing that will help get you up to a beautiful space.
00:32:14This is one of the iconic venues from the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics when it hosted swimming, diving and other events and is affectionately known as the Water Cube.
00:32:23Now, the venue was repurposed for Beijing 2022 and transformed into what you see before me now, the Ice Cube.
00:32:31What we see here are three sheets in the actual venue.
00:32:34There will be four, which means that up to four matches can be played at the same time.
00:32:39Now, in the future, after the Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics conclude, this venue will go through the same transformation each winter.
00:32:49It will become a fantastic winter sports destination open to the public.
00:32:54Now, with the preparations for the Winter Olympic Games entering its final stages, most of the test events have ended perfectly.
00:33:02One of the major highlights is the 5G plus 4K and 8K UHD.
00:33:08That's ultra-high-definition live broadcast, an application that is the first of its kind at an international event, and it changes the way people access high-quality digital media on the move.
00:33:20Multiple rounds of 5G signal tests are being conducted on the Beijing Zhangjiakou High-Speed Railway for international cloud-relay technologies.
00:33:30In the high-speed trains, which can travel to speed of up to 300 km per hour, the signals will be smoothly transmitted via the 5G cloud-relay backpack to the cloud-relay platform.
00:33:435G plus 4K and 8K UHD cloud outdoor broadcasting is one of the key projects of the Beijing Winter Olympics.
00:33:51It can realize low-threshold and low-cost professional-grade OB services.
00:33:57Cloud technology can be used on-site without OB vehicles and a large number of staff.
00:34:02This can significantly improve the scale and efficiency of outdoor broadcasts.
00:34:07The system supports 12 channels of video and audio signal access, providing a full range of services for video monitoring, guide cutting and production.
00:34:18In addition, the mixer module and the subtitle module can assist in the production of more exciting programs, enabling the simple system to provide professional services.
00:34:30With the accelerated large-scale commercialization of 5G, Ultra HD video is becoming one of the first application scenarios for 5G.
00:34:41China Media Group is leading the development and release of the relevant standards in 2021, which will significantly enhance the TV audio-visual experience.
00:34:51In order to ensure the success of the live broadcast of the event, China has also put in a lot of efforts in terms of standards.
00:34:59For example, the AVS-3 standard used in the 5G plus 4K and 8K live broadcast has been developed entirely by China and is now recognized by the international standards organizations.
00:35:12UHD technology can be applied to several derivative industries, further stimulating related consumption potential.
00:35:20Data show that China's UHD video industry is expected to reach 2.45 trillion yuan in 2021.
00:35:27I release CGTN, Beijing.
00:35:45Beijing!
00:35:46Beijing!
00:35:48The world's fastest skaters coming in with speed and balance.
00:35:52Figure skaters showcasing their elegance and position are expected to shine.

00:37:09city spots along this express road it is located in the junction between beijing and hebei province
00:37:17it is one of the largest scale reservoirs in china built in the 1950s 2.2 billion cubic meters
00:37:24wonderful place and now i'm also joined by dong jun earlier it was a wonderful place that we have
00:37:30just passed the guanting reservoir yeah we were passing it very fast but i still took some glimpse
00:37:35uh it was uh memorable uh guanting actually was a childhood name for me i learned about the reservoir
00:37:43when i was just a young kid and uh yeah but it's still far away for urban beijing residents now it

00:38:40paralympic winter games as well but think about it china already beijing particularly already hosted
00:38:47so many different kinds of olympic events many are really looking forward to the year 2022
00:38:53just that less than 30 days from now you know talking about you know what we see along the road this could

00:41:31actually enjoy their meal here because this is a dining carriage as well and also here i have a special
00:41:37guest today uh sharing his uh train ride experience with me so where are you from i am from russia my
00:41:44name is alexander i have been staying in china for four years so how do you feel about the train ride
00:41:51really interesting because every day in china i can feel something new and it's very good example of it
00:41:57because i don't feel any shake and vibration in this train i can work as a journalist and when i began
00:42:07to work on tv 20 years ago there was a very long distance between broadcasting and shooting now you
00:42:14can work and next moment you can transmit all the information to your studio really excellent so any
00:42:21expectation for the uh winter games yes i am russian and i will hope i hope that olympic games will be
00:42:30successful and um i'm sure that uh beijing and all the olympic sports really prepared for this game
00:42:39and really interesting impression i can feel that the signal is very stable you can see tunnel but the
00:42:45signal is really good and i told you before no shake you can see for example bottle of water
00:42:51water wow i didn't realize that you can do this
00:43:02so really very high quality of the screen and i'm sure it will help us to do our work as a reporter
00:43:10as good as possible okay so i want to show you thank you so much for your time and i also i want to show
00:43:16you some of the feature right here let me bring my cameraman over you can see the braille on this car
00:43:21so you know this entire train as well as all the carriages are designed for winter games as that
00:43:28means the olympic and also the paralympic for visually impaired to walk in this carriage safely and
00:43:38i also want to show you that i'm going to take my seat here um you know i'm already tuning to cgtn
00:43:44website here you can get really good connections working here i also want to show you that the table
00:43:51can be adjusted to the distance you like you can very easily type here i can file my story on time
00:43:56this is also when the 5g connection come into place let me push that back in one thing i call it the
00:44:02lifesaver for reporter is the power outlets right here and my colleague on my right hand side is actually
00:44:08working and she has the usb plug-in right here and also you can
00:44:19and i also want to share with you that uh you're going to be able to purchase the ticket online the
00:44:25website and also the app will be in english you are able to purchase it with a foreign debt credit card i
00:44:33believe debit card as well is especially for those uh for oh oh it's shaking you know i'm in transit so
00:44:40it's a bit shaky here and i also want to share with you that cgtn will be providing live shots uh for
00:44:46being able to provide live shots with reporters in different languages especially in russian spanish
00:44:51as well as other in arabic as well so um this is a media carriage you can see all right i can already
00:44:57feel the winter sport wipe a lot of fun things happening here and people are actually taking a
00:45:03rest and enjoying their lunch for now but uh that's all i have for now back to you in the studio
00:45:09thank you very much our reporter at the media carriage certainly there are a lot of stories going
00:45:14on there and and the water bottles stands still nice and i can hear and see the footages very well
00:45:23from where i am in the 5g studio arranged by cmg and talking about how people will travel from beijing
00:45:33to yanqing to john jackal how about the athletes the spectators how will they travel from one place to
00:45:38another china's high speed the railway will provide a different opportunities for our guests to understand
00:45:49how the transportation works and here is the story how long does it take to commute between two whole
00:46:02cities of beijing winter olympics we're now in beijing and within just one hour of train ride we'll get
00:46:08zhangjiakou but the inner city railway has more than just speed we're now at qinghe railway station this
00:46:21is a very important stop in beijing before the route stretches northwest all the way to zhangjiakou's
00:46:28chungle district the short-term mission for chinghe station is to serve the olympic games in the long
00:46:39term this is the starting station that connects beijing and lanzhou
00:46:43now on this car you can definitely feel the winter olympics atmosphere now during the games some
00:47:00dining cars like this one will be reserved for the press sitting over here is going to be a very
00:47:05enjoyable working experience especially with the beautiful scenes outside in preparation for the
00:47:14olympics we've conducted training on the english language and customer service etiquette
00:47:23almost all the signs on this bullet train are bilingual now this bullet train is a very important
00:47:29transportation tool during the winter olympics serving the audience and the athletes
00:47:35all right here we are at the taiziteng railway station now we are quite close to the olympic
00:47:42venues as well as ski resorts here in chongli district during the olympics we will have a service
00:47:51center with volunteers working there the beijing zhangjiakou route is just a small part of china's
00:48:00hundreds of thousands of kilometers of operating railways and it is just one of many examples of how
00:48:05the high-speed railway network is bringing unlimited opportunities to the cities along the way
00:48:11zhao yunfei cgtn beijing and zhangziakou
00:48:19zhao yunfei now is still sitting with me in the 5g express studio good to see you thank you for
00:48:24that was a nice report yeah i've been going back and forth between beijing and zhangziakou for many
00:48:29times i'm a semi-expert of train but this time something like this first time first time really yeah so what
00:48:35what is it like for you first time well something well visually everything is the same but what is
00:48:41the different is the unvisual 5g connection which is so cool definitely when you think about you know
00:48:49how things would work on this train it's really amazing it's almost like a grand transformation isn't
00:48:56it absolutely you probably don't see it uh you know in the surface but actually every small step of
00:49:02technical improvement needs so much effort as a piece of cake everything as a piece in this studio
00:49:08for cmg and cgtn in this studio as a piece of cake and experiencing that with us not only you sitting
00:49:16here but also dan williams who's in chicago our correspondent joining us through zoom dan can you
00:49:22hear me tell me more about your experiences you know covering the earlier olympics and how did you like it
00:49:29we are sitting on this moving express go ahead then yeah looks incredible i have to say very jealous
00:49:37uh uh for uh for not being there uh just looks incredible my father's in fact a uh a huge train
00:49:44enthusiast and uh although more uh his focus was on steam trains i have to say he would absolutely love
00:49:51to be riding on such a modern uh train as that 5g express and uh and certainly uh what the countdown
00:49:59really is now on isn't it ahead of uh the uh the beijing games uh beijing about to host uh become the
00:50:06first city to host uh both a summer and a winter olympics and uh really talking to some of the american
00:50:14athletes the u.s athletes that hope to be there in beijing a lot of their focus when speaking to them
00:50:18uh has been on what to expect around that opening ceremony so many people of course remember the
00:50:24events of 2008 that uh uh magnificent opening ceremony uh that took place uh back then uh what
00:50:31will be the uh the extravaganza this time around of course uh this will like the tokyo game to take
00:50:38place during a pandemic we can't forget that and uh that of course will have impacts an olympic games a big
00:50:45sporting event uh normally is also the uh collaboration uh between different countries
00:50:51the uh the extravaganza that uh comes from that from fans uh from uh spectators from uh you know
00:51:00the athletes all coming together from different countries and uh enjoying that olympic experience
00:51:05that won't be of course too much of the case this time around of course because of covid19 the pandemic
00:51:11uh continuing as was the case in tokyo uh but just so much uh to look forward to the fact that the
00:51:17games is taking place at all is really just such uh an incredible achievement just like the tokyo 2020
00:51:24games and and of course once these uh games get underway we'll then have once again this uh the
00:51:31expectation uh to be inspired by these incredible athletes that uh they get the chance to uh show all that
00:51:39they can do to inspire us uh all around the world then say hi to your to your father who is a train
00:51:52in sudi as about our journey this time but i want to add one question then to you about you know what
00:51:58would that mean for those athletes to be able to get on train like this and to have very smooth
00:52:03transportation during the games absolutely i think that you know for a lot of people there was um when
00:52:10i was there when in kuala lumpur when beijing uh were awarded the rights uh to host the games and i think
00:52:16there was a little confusion a little uh concern if you like as to how this would work how you could
00:52:22connect um these different areas that are of course quite uh so far spread out um but watching this this
00:52:31program i think that will give a lot of the athletes and uh the media and other people coming um perhaps
00:52:37uh yeah see some some nerves some concerns uh to to see just uh how uh smoothly this all this whole
00:52:45process seems to be that people can work uh people can relax uh you know kind of con contact uh home and
00:52:52other places uh and to really kind of focus on on what they're there to do of course which is uh
00:52:57uh of course try and uh win their events and uh and and and make headlines for all the right reasons
00:53:04of course uh and and to show off their athletic prowess so uh certainly uh i think kind of programs like
00:53:11this really underline uh just how uh how incredible some of those facilities uh uh look uh as they're going
00:53:18to be there for uh all the people coming okay dan williams our correspondent in chicago joining us
00:53:30through zoom we are already entering into a tunnel but we can hear you we can see you very well dan
00:53:35williams thank you so much have a great day there it is not just the 5g here it is also the ar and the vr
00:53:44technology and my report our reporter uh in fact uh yunfei has been having a lot of experiences with
00:53:51those technologies on this train so yunfei tell us more about how it works for this game so we talk
00:53:57about 5g it actually is the speed it's actually it's all about the delay so when we have 5g there's a
00:54:03small delay when people communicate what does that mean that means that even when we're not in the same
00:54:09space let's say we are doing facetime or we are doing zoom or whatever things there is no delay so
00:54:16that allows reporters to communicate with each other uh without any uh geographical concern just as what we
00:54:23did with them but we did something even more interesting yeah so we used as you said ai and our ar
00:54:30technology and uh my colleague since you and i try out some of the some things uh new technologies uh to see
00:54:38how this one is got applied on this train show us see how we met in matter
00:54:45can you hear me yes i can hear you and what about can you see me
00:54:53i can see you very clearly yeah i can see you very well how are you
00:54:58i'm good just a bit tired i know i can tell this is with olympics right
00:55:03um lots of things happening any fun stories have you covered well i've spoken to lots of athletes
00:55:11and also about the preparation for the upcoming winter games and also check out stadiums a lot of
00:55:16fun things all right i think uh we're all set shall we get started okay
00:55:23hello and welcome to cgtn today we're going to talk about how technologies are applied to olympics
00:55:36news coverage we are on this high-speed bullet train well in fact i'm all by myself because
00:55:41because we are not in the same space yunfei the weather seems to be so nice out there
00:55:46yeah i hope you can feel the train romance although you're not at all on this train
00:55:51well i guess this technology will allow us to do the interviews during winter games without any
00:55:56geographical concerns to some extent yes and you know what you can barely feel the delay
00:56:03well i guess this is where the 5g technology comes in and it will allow us to send in story pretty
00:56:09quickly i guess yeah what they did is that they built enough 5g signal towers along the beijing to
00:56:17jangjiakou railway so that they can ensure a full 5g plus 4k transmission i guess that's such a good
00:56:25news for the press because it's especially for reporters we need to send in our stories you can
00:56:30also produce and deliver live shows that is a technological breakthrough of cmg cgtn's parent
00:56:37company i'm definitely looking forward to the exceptional coverage at the upcoming winter games
00:56:42in days to come and we had earlier on the footage in the reports and now she's sitting here with us
00:56:54it's wonderful to see the duet is taking place live so how it works if this is not a show i want to
00:57:00play twice it's so fancy so how does that work from your perspective so i was sitting in a green room
00:57:07so i'm not on the train with yunfei but it's such a big deal and and quite a relief for us because we
00:57:13are running around to cover the winter games so it's good that we can have our guests be somewhere
00:57:19else and we are able to talk to them so that's quite a relief for us it's so crucial right now
00:57:24particularly because of the pandemic right when we talk to analysts when we talk to sports
00:57:28commentators from different parts of the world they're going to join us through different kind
00:57:32of social media platforms it's wonderful like that i know also both of you were covering different
00:57:38carriages running around this train this time i know this is the very virgin trip in fact for this
00:57:435g express so compared to early experiences where you can stop at different stations how is this time
00:57:50it's just like an express you know it is an express it is i mean just connecting two stations
00:57:57with tai chi ceng and beijing you can certainly tell that this is definitely a train designed for
00:58:03the winter olympics within less than one hour you can travel from qinghe railway station of beijing
00:58:10to zhangziakou's tai chi ceng railway station the two olympic sites you know it's not just about the speed
00:58:16of the train it's also about the speed of reporting it's so crucial for us we always want to get
00:58:22first hand the information yeah and in front of everyone right so that is very crucial yeah and
00:58:28that's my part i've been working along the way and especially to fire our stories uh our interviews
00:58:34with uh athletes yeah just this morning and i actually be able to test it out with so many
00:58:39journalists on board because it's the first time that we travel with so many journalists on board and
00:58:45the signal is just perfect our audience may see a very spacious area over here in our 5g studio made
00:58:52by cmg but you know just behind us behind the camera already huge crowds gathered over there watching
00:59:00our live show right now and also huge competition taking place among the journalists about who covered
00:59:06the stories first and what pictures to bring in tell us more about how you experienced it earlier
00:59:12well i have to say that we have spent so much time yeah doing drills and practices for this live show
00:59:20because this is the first ever 4k high high definition transmission on a fast train that's right
00:59:27so it needs so much efforts and so much team efforts you know for those journalists that are joining us
00:59:32later during the games you have to make sure that you know how to practice the skills of combing
00:59:37through the crowds right to get to the people that you want to just like what i did the technologies
00:59:43will surprise you but yeah you still got to have the journalistic skills especially during at the
00:59:48mini bar everybody is being so crowded yeah they want the badge they want the actually a special design
00:59:57pink curling the pot itself it's so attractive so everyone was surrounding it and also as i just showed
01:00:03you can send postcard and this is a special edition you can get on a train nowhere else i am so jealous
