00:00Anne Hathaway is opening up about her gross auditioning experience in the 2000s
00:04after being asked to kiss 10 guys for a chemistry read.
00:08The actress told V Magazine,
00:10I was told,
00:10We have 10 guys coming today in your cast.
00:13Aren't you excited to make out with all of them?
00:15And I thought,
00:15Is there something wrong with me?
00:16Because I wasn't excited.
00:18She didn't specify what project the audition was for.
00:21I thought it sounded gross,
00:22and I was so young and terribly aware how easy it was to lose everything
00:25by being labeled difficult.
00:27So I just pretended I was excited and got on with it.
00:30Hathaway said,
00:31This was considered normal during the early 2000s.
00:33It was just a very different time,
00:35and now we know better.
00:36So for her new film,
00:37The Idea of You,
00:38in which Hathaway serves as a producer,
00:40she conducted her chemistry read a bit differently.
00:42We asked each of the actors coming in to choose a song that they felt their character would love,
00:46that they would put on to get my character to dance,
00:49and then we do a short little improv.
00:51The Idea of You,
00:51based on the 2017 novel of the same name,
00:54tells the story of a 40-year-old single mom
00:56who falls for a 24-year-old international pop star
00:59played by Nicholas Galitzin.
01:01During his audition,
01:02the actor picked a song by the Alabama Shakes.
01:05It was just easy.
01:05I heard Britney's voice,
01:06and I just started smiling.
01:08And he saw me smile,
01:09so he relaxed.
01:10And we just started dancing.
01:11I looked over,
01:12and Michael Showalter,
01:13our director,
01:13was beaming.
01:14Spark.
01:15The film hits Prime Video on May 2nd.
01:17What is that song?
01:19Uh,
01:19it's nothing,
01:20really.
01:21I like it.
