00:00Lady Gaga is finally opening up about her long-lost alter ego, Joe Calderon.
00:07Joe's debut to the world was on the September 2010 cover of Japanese Men's Vogue,
00:12and then was also featured in the UNI music video.
00:19Gaga then made a notable appearance as the alter ego, who's described as a mechanic from Sicily,
00:24at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards.
00:27There, Joe pulled off a memorable performance of Gaga's song UNI,
00:31and presented Britney Spears with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award,
00:35where the two almost recreated Spears and Madonna's Kiss at the same award show in 2003.
00:41Now, the Born This Way singer is revealing to them that the persona helped her come to terms
00:46with how she viewed men at the time.
00:49That was actually kind of a big moment for me as a woman,
00:51to put all the pent-up fear or anger I had about relationships into one character.
00:56Gaga continued,
00:58Last month, Gaga told Vanity Fair's polygraph test that Joe was no longer with us.
01:16But when asked by them what she meant, Gaga said,
01:19was the character is no longer with me, but I wish Joe all the best.
01:24The Oscar winner also spoke about her upcoming seventh studio album, Mayhem, and its themes.
01:28I was always kind of fascinated with some kind of inner torture since the beginning of my career.
01:33I think I've always felt a little bit at war with myself.
01:36Like, there was a soft side of me, but then also this really intense side and a desire to be heard.
01:42On this album, I was taking a really long, hard look at the last 20 years.
01:46And I think it's interesting that I ended up calling my album Mayhem.
01:50The album will be released March 7th.
