00:20Baseless. This is what the Department of the Interior and Local Government or DILG asserted amid rumors circulating about the formation of a civilian military junta.
00:30According to DILG's Secretary John Vikrimulia, this is far from happening.
00:34The government is monitoring individuals who are attempting to recruit personalities for the so-called alternative government.
00:40He said that similar destabilization efforts have repeatedly surfaced in the country's history but have never succeeded.
00:46However, security and intelligence units are still closely watching the situation.
00:52The Secretary stressed they know those involved in the exploratory discussions, most of whom are retired or semi-active political personalities.
00:58Meanwhile, the Armed Forces of the Philippines has also not monitored anyone within its ranks pushing for a military junta amid ongoing political issues.
01:08This follows the statement of Senator Ping Lakson that some retired soldiers approached him to join the junta, which did not agree with.
01:15The AFP reiterated its loyalty to the Constitution, saying they will not take part in efforts pushed by some for a military-backed reset of the government.
