Gam - Final Freak-Out 1979 Germany,Krautrock, Space Rock
Gam biography Founded in Berlin, Germany in 1973 - Disbanded around 1979
GAM is a powerful trio founded in 1973 by the pioneer of the echo guitar Günter SCHICKERT. The band released their self-titled album in 1976 . It reveals high quality and super freaked out rockin' improvisations in the vein of the first Ash Ra Tempel, Zweistein, The Cosmic Jokers but creepier, much more haunted and infused by resonant cyclical guitar lines. The result is close to Günter Schickert's mesmerizing druggy soundscapes you can hear on the classic Samtvogel (1974). The band released the perfectly hypnotic, droney and spaced out Eiszeit in 1978. Among the top class krautrock bands and definitely cult.
Some say that Krautrock died in the mid 1970's. But, no, there was always an underground movement that pushed on to new frontiers whilst the big names went mainstream. One such band was GAM fronted by the guitar maestro Günter Schickert (still active today on the Berlin arts scene), they took the pioneering early Ash Ra Tempel and Guru Guru type Kraut freak-out to a new level, with the new daring of the then blossoming "NDW" new-wave.
