00:28this isn't just about being tired this is about a fundamental misunderstanding of what it means to
00:34be productive to be successful and to be happy you've been sold a dream that looks a lot like a
00:40nightmare and today we're pulling back the curtain let's get one thing straight there's a massive
00:47difference between being dedicated and being addicted dedication is focused it has a purpose
00:53it has a finish line addiction it's a compulsion it's a loop you can't break you work not because
01:00you're moving the needle but because the idea of not working makes you feel anxious guilty and
01:05worthless sound familiar that's not dedication that's a trap you've swapped a substance for a
01:12schedule and you're just as hooked think about it when you finish a big project do you actually take
01:18a breath and celebrate or do you immediately feel that empty restless feeling and start looking for
01:24the next task to fill the void that's the addiction talking it's never enough the goalpost keeps moving

01:45about the money it's about our identity we tie our entire self-worth to our output if we're not
01:51producing we feel we have no value it's a deep-seated fear of being average of being forgotten of not
01:57mattering the work is just a drug we use to numb that fear your addiction to hard work is a cage you

02:37to celebrate it with you what's the point of building an empire if you're sitting on the throne alone

03:03work is eroding your actual skills you're trading depth for busyness you're so focused on doing that
03:09you've forgotten how to think the most brilliant ideas the real breakthroughs they don't happen when
03:14your nose is pressed against the grindstone they happen in the shower on a walk in moments of quiet
03:21boredom by refusing to take a break you're starving your own creativity you're becoming a human doing not a
03:28human being and the world has enough robots it needs your unique creative mind which can only function
03:35when it's given space to breathe and it's not just your mind that's suffering your body is keeping
03:41score that low-grade constant fatigue the trouble sleeping even though you're exhausted the short
03:48temper that's not normal that's your body screaming for a break that you're not giving it you're running
03:54on adrenaline and cortisol the stress hormones you're treating your body like a machine that never needs
04:00maintenance but even the most advanced machine needs to power down to be serviced to be cared for
04:06you're burning a resource that cannot be easily replaced your own health and no amount of success is
04:13worth a broken body the path to recovery isn't about working less it's about living more it's about
04:20rebuilding your identity so that it's not solely dependent on your job title or your productivity
04:24step one is to practice doing nothing and i mean literally nothing no phone no podcast no distractions
04:33sit for five minutes and just breathe your addicted mind will scream it will tell you this is a waste of
04:40time that's how you know it's working you are retraining your brain to understand that your value is
04:45constant even in a state of rest step two is to find a hobby that you are intentionally bad at
04:52something you do purely for the joy of the process with no goal of monetizing it or being the best
04:58gardening sketching learning a few chords on the guitar this is crucial it reconnects you with play
05:05with learning for the sake of learning and it reminds you that not everything in life needs to be
05:10optimized for profit step three is what i call relationship hours block out time in your calendar not as
05:18time off from work but as a sacred appointment for connection a coffee with a friend where your
05:24phone is in the car a walk with your partner where work is a forbidden topic you must defend this time
05:30with the same ferocity you defend a business meeting with your most important client because these people
05:37are your most important clients second build hard stops into your day when the work day is over it's over
05:44close the laptop turn off the work notifications create a ritual that signals to your brain that
05:50work is done it could be a walk changing your clothes reading a book for fun this creates a
05:57boundary that your addicted mind will fight at first but will eventually thank you for and finally
06:03reconnect with who you are outside of your job what did you enjoy before the grind took over was it
06:09playing guitar going for a hike just sitting and doing nothing reclaim that part of yourself that
06:16is not a waste of time that is the very thing that makes you you you were not put on this earth to just
06:23be a worker you are a creator a friend a partner a source of joy and love your addiction to hard work
06:30is a cage you built for yourself and you have the key it's time to stop glorifying the burnout it's time
06:37to start celebrating a life well lived a life of balance of creativity of real connection that is
