00:00Dailene seemingly disappeared off the face of the earth.
00:14We love Dailene so much and we want her more.
00:17Carlson was last seen leaving a bar then shopping at a grocery store.
00:21At the bar, one of the men put his arm around Dailene and Dailene brushes him off.
00:26We basically have a bar full of possible suspects.
00:32He told us that he went home by himself and that he is seen on video buying a bottle of alcohol with Dailene.
00:38He is the last person to see her. That's all we have at this moment.
00:42We wanted to know where Dailene was. That was at the root of it all. Where is she?
00:52Every suspect accused of a crime has the right to remain silent.
00:56Many agree to be interrogated anyway, but they can stop the interview at any moment, making it a race against time.
01:06Justice hangs in the balance.
01:08Missing person report comes in for Dailene Carlson.
01:28The original report was by her aunt that she went to this bar and did not come home.
01:33Dailene decided that she was going to go to a local bar called Finnegan's and she had plans to meet some friends there.
01:46Dailene's aunt and her cousin heard from her a little bit through the night.
01:49Her plan was to come home and then Dailene never showed up.
01:52My understanding is that Dailene communicated with her family very consistently and if Dailene said, hey, I'm going to be home, then she would come home.
02:04So the fact that she had not communicated with those folks at all, that was extremely alarming.
02:12Dailene Carlson was full of life and energy.
02:24She was from Sandpoint, Idaho, loved to explore, kind of a free spirit.
02:29She traveled to the United States with a magazine crew from city to city trying to get subscriptions for a variety of magazines.
02:38So she was a person that was, I think, looking for her way in the world, but definitely enjoying her life.
02:47When Dailene Carlson moved to Stockton, she moved in with her aunt and her cousin.
02:53And she decided she liked the community so much that she wanted to stay and she wanted to go to college here.
02:58Dailene had never gone missing in the past.
03:02So the fact that she seemingly just disappeared off the face of the earth, it did seem exceptionally unusual.
03:10If they know anything, it doesn't matter how little it is, that if they would please come forward, contact the police department.
03:20She's a very quiet person, but once you get to know her, she's just bubbly and she just wouldn't hurt anybody or anything.
03:28We, we love Dailene so much and we want her home.
03:30Her cousin said that Dailene had recently broken up with a boyfriend, Jacob Evangelisti.
03:53I think Jacob had, had some feelings about that.
03:57He wanted to, to remain in a relationship with Dailene and Dailene did not.
04:01Part of the same kind of social network was Jason Gilley.
04:06Dailene and Jason were just friends and Jason's home was kind of the party place.
04:12We learned that these young men were at the bar.
04:15Jason was there and Jacob was there.
04:18And given the circumstances, that certainly caught our attention.
04:23So we want to talk to the ex-boyfriend, Jacob, because he has a reason to want to maybe get back with her or maybe he's upset.
04:35Jacob was very willing to talk to us and Jacob insisted that he knew nothing about Dailene's disappearance and that he was more concerned for her than anybody was.
05:00And he seemed to be very transparent and very honest and the sense was that he was telling us the truth.
05:06Jason told us that he was at the bar and that he saw Dailene there and that the two did hang out and that they were being friendly.
05:35And as the night went on, he got a text or a call from his grandmother who relayed that Jason's son was sick and that Jason needed to come home.
05:46So according to Jason, he went to the car and he left by himself and went straight home to take care of his son who was ill.
05:53Jason told us that when he left, Dailene was still partying at the bar and he had no idea what her plans were from that point on because he went straight home and didn't see Dailene again.
06:05So there was one camera angle in the hall near the restrooms and in that particular angle, you're able to see that Dailene is kind of milling about with a group of men.
06:29And at one point, you see one of the men put his arm around Dailene and Dailene kind of brushes him off and then steps away.
06:41And when that person who tried to kind of bring Dailene in for a hug turns around, we're able to see that it's Jason Gilley.
06:48So watching the video and really dissecting it in all the different angles, what we saw was at the very end of the night, Jason left at 12 minutes after 1 a.m. and walked out of view of the camera.
07:03And then Dailene left three minutes later, also right out of view of the camera.
07:08They left not necessarily right together, but in very close proximity in time.
07:18By way of text message, we learned that Dailene's plan was to leave the bar with Jason and then go to the store and get a bottle of Jägermeister and continue the party at Jason's house.
07:45Jason said that he was not with Dailene.
07:48So, of course, the text messages caused more questions for us than we had answers to at that time.
07:55Because we had the information that they were reportedly going to go pick up a bottle of Jägermeister,
08:01we just looked at what a logical route would be from the bar to Jason's home.
08:06You know, what liquor stores were along that route.
08:09And so we visited several of those type of locations, which ultimately led us to a local grocery store that did sell alcohol at that hour.
08:17And through that visit, we were able to obtain surveillance footage of a couple of young folks buying a bottle of alcohol.
08:29And the surveillance footage was not great.
08:32But when the two went to the register, ultimately, we end up identifying Jason and Dailene.
08:44We knew that Jason was not telling us the truth simply because he told us that he went home by himself.
08:51And that he is seen on video buying a bottle of alcohol with Dailene.
08:55Okay, Jason's lying to us.
08:59Why is Jason lying to us?
09:00That's the question.
09:15Jason was not present.
09:17He actually was out of town.
09:19So we spoke with his grandmother.
09:21And we specifically asked if she told Jason that he needed to come home because Jason's son was sick.
09:28And his grandmother looked at us in a kind of a puzzled way and said,
09:33No, I don't.
09:34I never did that.
09:34I don't know what you're talking about.
09:38During the search warrant at Jason's home, there were several key pieces of evidence that were located.
09:45First and foremost, we found women's underwear in Jason's bedroom, which were obviously out of place.
09:51And we also found a certain amount of marijuana in Jason's home, enough to build a case.
09:57He possessed it for sale.
09:59It was ultra clear that Jason was not being honest and that we now had enough, at least based on the possession of marijuana,
10:08to take him into custody on that and have a very direct conversation with him.
10:11So, on August 14th, Jason was located and he was arrested and was immediately taken into custody.
10:19Sorry about the wave, man.
10:32I don't know.
10:34Unlike you, you're...
10:35We keep saying we've got so much stuff.
10:38It's crazy.
10:38Well, we appreciate your cooperation, by the way.
10:49I don't know how I said that.
10:49It really helps.
10:50I mean, you know, we really...
10:52I understand it's all procedures.
10:53Yeah.
10:54No, we appreciate it.
10:54I mean, all you're doing is helping us, so...
10:56I wasn't...
10:56I'm excited about my room upside down, but...
10:59So...
11:00We're not worried about weed or whatever.
11:01I'm just curious, to be honest with you.
11:03What is a little sack like that?
11:04What does it cost?
11:05Uh, I've been getting $10 for him.
11:0810 per?
11:09Yeah.
11:09I'm not really trying to make money off of it.
11:11Just kind of smoke for three kind of thing?
11:12Yeah, pretty much.
11:13Okay, so now going back to Saturday.
11:16Uh, Saturday.
11:17It was a long, boring day.
11:20So, I think I did some yard work.
11:22I can't quite remember.
11:24You went to the bar at what time?
11:26I would say, again, 9 or 10-ish.
11:29Okay.
11:29It's about the time I show up.
11:30I wanted Jason to lock himself into a statement.
11:35If the statement was going to be absolutely the truth,
11:37that would be great.
11:38If he chose to continue to stick to his story
11:41and tell us more lies,
11:42we were going to let him do just that.
11:43Uh, I do remember playing beer pong,
11:48drinking some beer.
11:50Uh, I seen her bailing there,
11:53and I seen her, like I said, bouncing,
11:56I told you before she was bouncing around.
11:58Uh, about, let's say, a little bit before one,
12:03my grandma texted me, said,
12:05hey, are you busy?
12:06Can you come home and take care of your son?
12:09All right, I will.
12:10Um, and then, where do you go?
12:12Stay home.
12:16The thing that we want most is a full confession.
12:20A very close second to that
12:22is a statement that's riddled with lies.
12:25And in that interview room,
12:27Jason continued to lie.
12:28We just want our home safe.
12:47I just want my family to, you know,
12:50have, have peace and my aunt get her daughter home.
12:53Everybody has their own kind of nuances
13:13as to how they speak, how they act.
13:15And I was just kind of getting a read
13:19on who Jason is
13:21and how he would generally communicate
13:23so that we could then identify
13:25behavior changes from that.
13:27And that's really what we're looking for
13:28is what that behavior change is.
13:32So what do you think about all this stuff
13:34and everything that's floating around?
13:36Honestly, I don't even know.
13:38I know it's not good.
13:40It's sad and I don't really know
13:44what I saw.
13:45What do you think happened?
13:48Thinking she went with somebody
13:50and hopefully she's just stuck somewhere
13:52and hopefully she's all right.
13:54I don't have no idea what happened.
13:57No idea.
13:59Have you tried, since you found out
14:01she went missing, have you helped out
14:02like to try to find her to do anything?
14:04I was going to print out some flyers
14:06but my printing was out of ink.
14:08Try calling her or texting her or anything?
14:10I tried calling her with the phone.
14:12Dad, go straight to the voicemail.
14:15When did you try calling her?
14:17Oh gosh, I couldn't even remember
14:18what the dad was.
14:19Well, I mean, has it been
14:20kind of repeatedly that you showed?
14:21No, I tried one time.
14:22Oh, just one?
14:23Plus everybody else,
14:24they only had her phones off.
14:25He was so nonchalant about,
14:27oh yeah, I don't know,
14:28maybe she's stuck somewhere.
14:29I hope she's okay.
14:31That doesn't make sense to me.
14:32For most adults,
14:34if something happened
14:35to one of their friends,
14:36they would do everything they could
14:37to try to help locate that person,
14:39particularly in the context of this case.
14:42Is there anything else you could think of?
14:45Anything that you think
14:46that would help us out?
14:47I don't, I'm not one to point fingers,
14:50but Jacob was just staring her down
14:52all night long,
14:53watching her every little move.
14:56What I kind of understood,
14:58and maybe I misinterpreted,
15:00this was pretty much
15:00she broke up with him.
15:02I don't know if it was mutual
15:03or if he broke up with her
15:05or she broke up with him.
15:05I just know she was all excited
15:08about being apart from Jacob,
15:09honestly, she was all excited.
15:11About being apart from him?
15:12She's like, I'm done with him,
15:14so glad it's over,
15:15I don't know why I see him.
15:15And then every time I looked
15:17toward his direction,
15:18he was staring at her.
15:19Okay.
15:19So, I don't know.
15:22I noticed that, so.
15:24He immediately went to deflecting,
15:26bringing up reasons.
15:28Oh, she was drinking,
15:29she was talking to a lot of guys,
15:31Jacob was staring at her,
15:32you know, that's an ex-boyfriend.
15:34So when people start deflecting,
15:36they're hiding something,
15:37and our goal is to know
15:39what they're hiding and why.
15:41You know, we have,
15:42here's the thing,
15:43what if,
15:44how do you think?
15:44Yeah.
15:45Yeah, same ones you guys.
15:50So nothing else you can think of,
15:52anything you want to add
15:53on the timeline?
15:55Anything you want to,
15:56you know,
15:56that you think that maybe
15:57you made a mistake
15:58when you tell us?
16:00No.
16:01Something.
16:03Okay.
16:03Nothing I can think of.
16:04Okay.
16:05We have a ton of resources
16:08that we use,
16:09investigative tools
16:10that we use,
16:12and there's some inconsistencies
16:15in your story.
16:16Okay.
16:19And we want you
16:20to clear this up for us.
16:21Really horrible times.
16:22Okay.
16:22That's okay.
16:23That's all right.
16:24And you can't expect us,
16:26we don't expect you
16:28to know every minute
16:29of what you did.
16:30That's not reasonable.
16:31It's not reasonable.
16:32Okay.
16:32But that's the good thing
16:34with surveillance,
16:35video surveillance
16:36at different locations,
16:38the cameras,
16:39there are intersections,
16:41and as such.
16:42So,
16:42you don't,
16:43we don't have to account
16:44for your time,
16:45but these things,
16:46they do take their time stamp.
16:48What we can see
16:49is literally the wheels
16:51begin to turn
16:51in his head,
16:53right?
16:53And him beginning
16:54to recount
16:55where might I have gone
16:57that they might have
16:58surveillance footage.
16:58so we need you
17:03to be completely
17:03honest with us
17:04because we know,
17:05we know a lot more
17:07of what's going on.
17:09Okay.
17:09And this is your opportunity
17:11to be completely honest
17:12with us.
17:13And we need you
17:13to be honest
17:14because we know,
17:15we know a lot
17:16of information.
17:18What you see
17:19is him kind of shift
17:20in his chair.
17:22And that's a classic
17:24tell of somebody
17:25who's beginning
17:26to feel very uncomfortable.
17:27Jason is beginning
17:29to connect the dots
17:31that we certainly know
17:33more than we revealed
17:34to him originally.
17:36And his body language
17:38said so much more
17:39than his words did.
17:55So, Jason,
17:56let's stop goofing around.
17:57let's stop playing games.
17:58Okay.
17:59Because we know
18:01that there's a whole lot
18:02more to this story
18:03and this is not
18:05the time for games.
18:05We just need you to focus.
18:07This is a big deal.
18:09Any investigator knows
18:11if somebody is talking,
18:12you're making progress.
18:15It might be very,
18:15very slow progress.
18:17And even if he's going to lie,
18:18the fact that he's talking,
18:19if he's talking,
18:20we're on the right path.
18:22You're in a good position
18:25to help yourself right now.
18:27Okay.
18:28So let's really consider
18:30some questions
18:31and let's really consider
18:32the answers that you're giving
18:33before we go further
18:35down the road, Jason.
18:36Because I don't want you
18:37to waste this opportunity
18:39that you have right now,
18:41okay,
18:41to be honest with us.
18:43because...
18:44I'm trying to think
18:44that I can.
18:47I mean,
18:47I understand,
18:48I don't know what you guys know
18:49or anything, but...
18:50Jason,
18:51we know a lot of stuff.
18:53Okay.
18:53And we need you to be honest.
18:55Please don't waste this opportunity
18:56because this is serious.
18:59Okay.
18:59So don't do that to yourself.
19:02Me leaning in
19:03and putting my hand
19:03on his forearm there
19:05is a way for me
19:06to try to connect with him
19:07because humans like
19:09that human touch.
19:10And if that need
19:12is being met
19:12in this way,
19:13then there's a higher likelihood
19:15in my experience
19:16that somebody's going
19:17to continue to talk.
19:18So let's start over.
19:20So on Saturday,
19:23okay,
19:23what time do you get to the bar?
19:25I got to the bar
19:26probably 10, 10, 15.
19:29Okay.
19:29I was there
19:30until about 1 o'clock.
19:31Okay.
19:31And what happened at 1?
19:34At 1 o'clock,
19:34I left.
19:35Because what?
19:36Because of my son.
19:37Okay.
19:38So I went home,
19:39made sure my son was all right,
19:41and that was it.
19:42Let's talk about...
19:44Let's talk about your grandma
19:45in the text first.
19:52Because when we were out there
19:53on Thursday night,
19:54I spoke to your grandma,
19:55and I spoke to her
19:55in detail about that.
19:56Right.
19:57About your son being sick
19:58and all that,
19:59and she explained
20:00what she did
20:02or didn't do.
20:03Right.
20:04And it doesn't...
20:05It's not consistent
20:06with what you're saying.
20:08So this is your opportunity
20:10to straighten it out for us.
20:12She didn't text.
20:13You're right.
20:14She didn't.
20:14You're right.
20:14I had just went home.
20:18Okay.
20:18Why did you not tell us
20:20the truth about that?
20:21What's the purpose of it?
20:25There is no purpose.
20:26Well, listen.
20:27People don't lie to the police
20:28for no reason, Jason.
20:29And we asked you multiple times,
20:31and you gave the same lie
20:32over and over.
20:33And, you know...
20:35I was texting a lot.
20:36Who else were you texting?
20:39I honestly could not remember
20:41who I was texting.
20:42His brain's going
20:43800 million directions,
20:45and he's trying to come up
20:47with a new strategy
20:48because he knows
20:49his whole statement is,
20:52I left to see my son.
20:53Well, that's no longer true.
20:55So now they're just going to keep
20:57chipping away at him
20:59and have him keep
21:00contradicting himself,
21:01and then hopefully each time
21:03he'll reveal a little bit more
21:04of the truth.
21:06So why did you decide
21:09to leave the bar?
21:11Because I wanted to go home
21:12to my son.
21:12Okay.
21:12So who did you leave the bar with?
21:14No way.
21:15I left by myself.
21:15And where did you go?
21:17I went home.
21:18From the bar directly to your house.
21:20Didn't make any stops.
21:22Stopped nowhere.
21:24Wait a minute.
21:24Wait, wait, wait.
21:25Wait, wait.
21:26Wait.
21:27Excuse me, Jason.
21:28I left the bar.
21:29Okay.
21:29Hold on.
21:30I left the bar with Deline
21:32to food for us.
21:35I bought a bottle of air
21:36for her.
21:37Dropped her back up
21:37at the bar.
21:39And then...
21:39Now, why would you...
21:43Why does it not this?
21:44Jason, I just remembered
21:45that I don't took a...
21:47But that's pretty important.
21:48Jason, you did have been
21:49very detailed on everything
21:50to us.
21:51Jason, this is...
21:53No, I understand.
21:54It's not something you forget,
21:55Jason.
21:56It was just so obviously fabricated
21:59that he just happened
22:00to remember.
22:01Oh, gosh, thank you.
22:02Yeah, I forgot.
22:03But yes, now I remember.
22:05This is not something
22:06you forget.
22:06I understand.
22:10So, let's talk about this.
22:11This is serious.
22:12It slipped my mind.
22:13I'm serious.
22:14I don't think it did, Jason.
22:16As a matter of fact,
22:17I'm quite certain it didn't.
22:18Okay?
22:19There's a whole lot more
22:20to this story,
22:21and all these questions
22:22that we sat in here
22:23and asked you,
22:23we obviously knew the answer.
22:25Right.
22:25That was not a slip of the mind.
22:28That was a lie.
22:29There's a big difference.
22:30It was a lie, correct?
22:31Yeah.
22:32Why?
22:34Scared.
22:35Of what?
22:37Because I noticed
22:37she disappeared around
22:38at the same time.
22:42So, why would you be
22:43scared about that, Jason?
22:44I don't know.
22:46Jason clearly wasn't going
22:52to volunteer
22:54any more information.
22:55So, it seemed obvious
22:56that we needed to pivot
22:58on our strategy
22:59to confront him
23:00with facts
23:02about his lies.
23:04Ultimately,
23:04we wanted to know
23:05where D'Aleen was.
23:07That was at the root
23:08of it all.
23:09Where is she?
23:11Most important
23:12is we need to get
23:13D'Aleen back to our family.
23:14Right?
23:17So, you're going
23:17to help us find her?
23:19I don't know.
23:20I'm going to do that.
23:21I'm sure you do.
23:25Jason,
23:26I'm sure you do.
23:28Okay.
23:31I'm sure you do.
23:44Why would you lie to us
23:50about having gone
23:51home by yourself?
23:53Slip my mind.
23:54Sorry.
23:55Okay.
23:55What else
23:56slipped your mind
23:56up until right now?
23:58What else do you want
23:59to change about your story?
24:00This is your chance.
24:02Jason,
24:02use this opportunity.
24:04Let's talk about
24:05your conversation
24:06with D'Aleen
24:07leading up to
24:08going to Food for Less.
24:09I had an offer.
24:14I said,
24:14do you want to come
24:14back to the house
24:15and trash on the couch?
24:17She said,
24:18okay.
24:19It's okay,
24:20cool.
24:21I'll bottle you
24:21with a bottle.
24:24I had changed my mind.
24:25I had bottled
24:26the bottle still
24:26and went home.
24:28And why did you
24:29take her?
24:30I took her back
24:30to Fence.
24:31She was with me
24:32and I dropped her
24:32back off at Fence
24:33all the way
24:34back to my house.
24:35So, you dropped
24:36her back off
24:37at the bar?
24:37Yes.
24:38For sure?
24:38Shortly after one.
24:43Maybe left
24:44a little bit
24:44before one,
24:45maybe right at one.
24:47Yeah, sure.
24:49What did she do
24:49when you dropped her
24:50off?
24:50She walked
24:51into the bar?
24:52That's weird.
24:54Jason,
24:54you know what's
24:54weird about that?
24:57You know what's
24:57really weird
24:58about all that?
24:59There's a
24:59lot of people
25:00at Fence.
25:01There's cameras
25:02everywhere.
25:05Guess what
25:05they caught at Fence?
25:07After we,
25:08because we saw
25:08you guys live
25:09together.
25:10Or come back
25:11and defend us?
25:13Jason.
25:14There's no
25:14surveillance of them.
25:16And there's
25:17surveillance
25:17everywhere.
25:18We sat and
25:18we watched
25:19hours of footage.
25:20Jason.
25:24Okay.
25:25You guys went home
25:26to your house.
25:27Jason, let's
25:31quit
25:31around, Jason.
25:32I'm about
25:33done with it.
25:34Got it?
25:35I'm about
25:35done.
25:40Jason, listen,
25:41I apologize.
25:42I apologize.
25:43I'm sorry.
25:44I'm sorry.
25:46Yelling at him
25:47and cussing at him
25:48was not a successful
25:49strategy, right?
25:51And so it
25:52seemed very clear.
25:54I needed to
25:54apologize and I
25:55needed to back it
25:56off and I needed
25:58to be more of
25:59that soft touch
26:00and more like,
26:01hey, it's okay.
26:02We're here.
26:03We want to help
26:04you.
26:04This is your time.
26:06And you're a good
26:06guy, okay?
26:08So this can,
26:10we can make this
26:11work.
26:11We can make this
26:12okay.
26:13But you got to be
26:14honest.
26:14Starting right now.
26:17Starting right now.
26:17She walked
26:21towards the bar
26:21around Harvey's
26:22for blood,
26:24for dead bodies,
26:25for...
26:26Why don't you
26:30tell us about
26:30where you and
26:31Dalene went
26:33after Food for Less,
26:34Jason?
26:34Because it wasn't
26:35to the bar.
26:36Jason?
26:39I'm really scared
26:40because I know
26:41when people are
26:41missing,
26:42they look like
26:43you guys are
26:43looking at me
26:44and the person
26:45that I'm not
26:46with usually
26:47has done something.
26:47Okay,
26:48then be honest
26:48and stop lying.
26:50I'm sorry.
26:50I'm really scared.
26:51We went back
26:52to my house.
26:54We drank a little
26:55bit.
26:56Then she called
26:57and she started
26:58to walk off
26:59to go home.
27:00She,
27:01I wasn't going
27:02to let her walk
27:02all the way home.
27:03She had been
27:04drinking a lot.
27:06So I got
27:06in my grandma's
27:07car.
27:08I didn't know
27:09how much she
27:09got in.
27:11Why is it
27:11that you
27:12lied to everybody?
27:13Because I know
27:14how people look
27:16when you're
27:16the last person.
27:17like everybody's
27:18pointing fingers
27:18at me because
27:19I didn't think
27:20she left the bar
27:20with me.
27:21Well,
27:21she did leave
27:22the bar with
27:22you,
27:22Jason.
27:23Right,
27:23but now she's
27:24missing.
27:25I don't want
27:25anything to do
27:26with her missing.
27:27Then Jason,
27:27why did you not
27:28tell us that
27:28from the get-go?
27:29Jason,
27:30because here's
27:30the problem.
27:32I'm really
27:33scared.
27:34I'm still
27:35scared.
27:35Things happen,
27:36man.
27:36It's okay.
27:37Okay?
27:38I don't know
27:38getting
27:38and they're
27:39missing.
27:39So let's
27:41make it
27:42better.
27:44Okay?
27:45Jason,
27:45let's make it
27:46better.
27:46Let's make it
27:47better right
27:47now.
27:48Okay?
27:50Let's make it
27:50better.
27:51Do the right
27:51thing,
27:51man.
27:52You're a good
27:52guy.
27:53And I know
27:54in your heart...
27:54I'm a good guy.
27:56I'm a good
27:57guy.
27:57In your heart,
27:58I know you
27:58want to do
27:59the right
27:59thing.
28:00Okay?
28:00I don't mind
28:01it.
28:02It's okay.
28:03The more
28:13that he
28:14becomes
28:14emotional
28:15and the
28:15more
28:15that he
28:16cries,
28:16it becomes
28:17apparent
28:17to me
28:18that
28:19these
28:19are not
28:19real
28:19tears.
28:24What we
28:24see is
28:25him
28:25beginning
28:26to get
28:26really,
28:27really
28:27worried
28:27about
28:28himself
28:28and
28:29not
28:29about
28:30Daling.
28:30He
28:31knows
28:31that
28:32he's
28:32in
28:32serious
28:33trouble.
28:50Jason,
28:51the more
28:51you talk
28:52about it,
28:52the better
28:52you're going
28:53to feel.
28:53The better
28:53you're going
28:53to feel?
28:54You've got
28:55to feel
28:55better.
28:58But,
28:58Jason,
28:59you've got
29:01to feel
29:02a little
29:02better
29:02about
29:03being able
29:04to get
29:04this off
29:05your chest.
29:05You're unable
29:05to tell us
29:06now.
29:06You haven't
29:07been able
29:07to tell
29:07anybody.
29:08Why?
29:09Because I'm
29:10scared.
29:11I'm mad.
29:11I'm going to get
29:12it off.
29:13But you
29:14get it off
29:14your chest.
29:15Listen,
29:16because ultimately
29:16the truth
29:17is going to
29:17come out.
29:18Ultimately.
29:19The truth
29:19will come
29:20out.
29:21Okay?
29:22And how
29:23much have
29:24you had to
29:24drink?
29:25Between the two
29:26was to drink the
29:27whole bottle.
29:28Of Jager.
29:29Of Jager.
29:29I should have
29:29thought you
29:30were going to
29:30get it out.
29:31Did you guys
29:31have sex?
29:32No.
29:33Jason.
29:33Jason.
29:35Jason.
29:38Why would
29:39you lie
29:39about that,
29:40Jason?
29:40Jason,
29:41stop lying.
29:42Let's,
29:43let it,
29:43hey,
29:44let it out
29:44now.
29:45It's okay,
29:45man.
29:46I thought
29:47I'd let it
29:47walk away.
29:48Jason,
29:49that's okay,
29:50man.
29:50Okay?
29:51But you
29:51got to
29:51stop lying.
29:53Okay?
29:53Stop lying.
29:54Is that
29:59the first
30:00time you
30:00guys had
30:00sex?
30:02Was she
30:02upset?
30:03Because we
30:03were both
30:04drunk.
30:04It should
30:04have never
30:05happened.
30:05Well,
30:05that's okay.
30:07Was she
30:08upset?
30:08Because,
30:09because,
30:09I didn't
30:09want to
30:11curse
30:11do it.
30:12I didn't
30:12want to.
30:13Why do
30:13you think
30:13she was
30:14upset?
30:15She was
30:15probably
30:15sobering
30:16up.
30:17We had
30:18sex and
30:18we came
30:19out for a
30:20little bit
30:20more and
30:20then she
30:21said she
30:21wanted to
30:22go home.
30:22And she
30:22started
30:23walking.
30:23So I
30:24got her
30:25going.
30:26Was she
30:26in the
30:27front seat
30:27or back
30:28seat?
30:29She was
30:29telling me
30:30just let
30:30her go.
30:31Just don't
30:31worry about
30:32her.
30:32Let her
30:32go.
30:34Was she
30:34yelling?
30:35I figured
30:36she was
30:36upset about
30:36the sex.
30:38What was
30:39she saying?
30:39She was
30:40like,
30:40I'm
30:40horrible.
30:41I can't
30:42believe I
30:42did this.
30:43You're
30:43a piece
30:44of garbage.
30:45To you?
30:46Yeah.
30:46Why was
30:46she
30:46thinking
30:47about you?
30:47I don't
30:48know.
30:49Like I
30:49said,
30:50what were
30:50you
30:50saying?
30:51I said,
30:52I'm
30:52just
30:52going to
30:52take you
30:53home.
30:53You'll
30:53be
30:53all right.
30:55And
30:55then she
30:55got out of
30:56the car.
30:57I didn't
30:57want to
30:57pursue the
30:58issue.
30:58So I
30:59just,
30:59I don't
30:59know,
30:59wait.
31:01That's what I
31:02mean.
31:02I'm so
31:02sure.
31:04I just
31:04made sure
31:04to do my
31:04phone.
31:05Jason
31:06said that
31:08they
31:08drove all
31:09the way
31:09to
31:10Modesto,
31:11which is
31:11about 30
31:12minutes
31:12south of
31:13us,
31:14and that
31:15Dailene
31:15got out
31:15of the
31:16car at
31:16some
31:16unknown
31:17place.
31:18And
31:19instead of
31:19alerting
31:20the
31:20authorities
31:20in that
31:21community
31:22and asking
31:23for help,
31:23he just
31:24left and
31:24went to
31:24a gas
31:25station.
31:25You were
31:26so good
31:27to try
31:27to stop
31:28her.
31:28She got
31:29out of the
31:30car and
31:30you didn't
31:30go around
31:31to help
31:32her?
31:33No,
31:33I didn't.
31:34I don't
31:35really know.
31:38That's why
31:38I didn't
31:39want to
31:39put it
31:40away.
31:41Okay.
31:41She didn't
31:42jump out
31:42of the
31:42car,
31:43Jason.
31:44Jason.
31:45Yeah,
31:45she didn't
31:46jump out,
31:47she stepped
31:47out of the
31:48car.
31:49Jason,
31:49she didn't
31:49step out
31:50of the
31:50car.
31:50She didn't
31:50just walk
31:51away,
31:51Jason,
31:52and you
31:52didn't
31:52just drive
31:53off.
31:53That
31:53doesn't
31:54make any
31:54sense,
31:55Jason.
31:55Because
31:55when you
31:56lie,
31:57it's
31:57great.
31:57Jason,
32:02something.
32:04No.
32:04Jason.
32:05Jason.
32:06Jason.
32:08Jason.
32:09No.
32:09Where are
32:10we going
32:10to find
32:10a body?
32:11Help us
32:11find her.
32:12Help us
32:13for your
32:13home.
32:13Her
32:14family
32:14deserves
32:14it.
32:14Do you
32:14have
32:15a family?
32:15She
32:15has
32:15attention.
32:16I know
32:17that.
32:17She
32:17does.
32:18I
32:18do
32:18anything
32:19to
32:19her.
32:20Come
32:20on,
32:20Jason,
32:21listen
32:21to
32:21me.
32:21You
32:22don't
32:22seem
32:22to
32:22understand
32:23the
32:23gravity
32:23of
32:23the
32:23situation.
32:24Okay?
32:26When
32:26Jen
32:27explains
32:27it,
32:28I
32:29don't
32:30want
32:30you
32:30to
32:31do
32:32that.
32:37Okay?
32:39I'm
32:39sorry,
32:40you
32:40guys.
32:42I feel
32:42like you're
32:43making me
32:43say something
32:43that's not
32:44true.
32:44No,
32:45we don't
32:45want to
32:46put anything
32:46on,
32:46but
32:47it's
32:48over.
32:50You asked
32:50for it
32:51for me,
32:51so we
32:51can't
32:52talk to
32:52you at
32:52all.
32:53So here's
32:53what's
32:53going to
32:53happen.

39:35Prosecutors say the evidence that they were able to get once Carlson's body was discovered
40:01fits in with the timeline that they already had for the sequence of events here at Gilley's house
40:06that night. What they don't have is the murder weapon. Through the course of this investigation
40:11we learned who all of Jason's family was in this area and through questioning Jason's uncle
40:19we learned that Jason had an old 22 caliber semi-automatic handgun that he gave his uncle
40:27and told his uncle to put in a safe and keep for him. I asked him when did Jason give you that gun
40:35he said you know Jason gave me that gun just after that girl disappeared.
40:42We did a forensic examination of that gun in relation to the casings that were found at the scene
40:49and through that examination the experts were able to say that that gun that was provided to us by
40:55the uncle was the murder weapon.
41:12Our evidence for the rape charge was Jason's statement that Dalene woke up after having sex
41:19and was extremely mad at Jason. So those were the grounds I used and I believe was the motive
41:25for the homicide. I believe that he was worried about being accused of rape and that was more
41:32important to him than Dalene's life.
41:36The amount of agony that we went through every day every day it was harder every day it was not
41:40easier it was harder and harder and harder and I hope that he goes down. God forgive me for saying it
41:47but I hope he does.
42:08Jason Gilley was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole
42:11which I believe was the right sentence. Following the trial the jurors explained that this video
42:19and this interrogation was critical in their decision making because they were able to see
42:24that his thought process and his lies were kind of the final nail in the coffin so to speak in his fate.
