00:47Tonight, authorities investigating a tandem skydive in Tennessee that went horribly wrong,
00:52leaving an instructor dead and another man stuck in a tree for hours.
00:57I saw a reserve chute deploy, and it is probably a mile and a half northwest of the field.

01:09Arborist Romulus Rude says he cut down a tree to help rescuers.
01:14They strapped like three or four ladders together, tied them together to get up.
01:21Police say the skydiver became lodged in a wooded area after he was separated at the plane from a tandem rig with an instructor.
01:28The harness got stuck on the side of the step.

01:33Then I had to shake and move the rudders around a bit, maneuver them, and then they were able to get free.
01:40Our crews entered into what was a very wooden terrain area that had lots of obstacles to overcome.
01:47Firefighters eventually used a pulley system to get him safely to the ground.
01:51Police say the 35-year-old instructor is presumed to have fallen without a parachute, a police helicopter later locating his body about a mile away.
02:01He did not survive.
02:02Authorities still investigating what caused the deadly incident.
02:05So you're on, you're my instructor, and then we get caught up, we're hanging on the side of the plane, they shake us loose, and then I realize after a little bit, you're not even there anymore.
