00:32China is in a diplomatic dispute with Japan over the island,
00:36following comments from Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaiichi
00:39suggesting Tokyo could intervene if Taiwan were attacked.
00:44The U.S. does not recognize Taiwan as a sovereign state,
00:47yet it remains the island's principal partner and supplier of defense equipment.
00:52According to Chinese officials, Trump acknowledged the significance of the Taiwan question.
00:58Following the call, Trump, in a social media post,
01:01praised extremely strong U.S.-China relations but did not mention Taiwan.
01:07Trump also confirmed that he intends to visit China in April,
01:11which Xi is scheduled to travel to Washington in 2026.
