Kaitlyn Dever chats with THR at 'The Last of Us' season 2 premiere and talks about what it was like joining the cast after having a long history with the game. She also describes the instant connection she had with Pedro Pascal.

00:01Thank you so much.

00:02After originally auditioning to be Ellie, I mean, did you kind of think this chapter was over?

00:06Or how did you feel when they came to you with Abby?

00:09I mean, well, when this was originally, like, it was like 10 plus years ago, yeah, that it was going to potentially be a movie.

00:17I didn't even audition.

00:18It was only just, like, meetings I was having with Neil.

00:21And I was going to Naughty Dog, and he was showing me, like, how the game was created.

00:25And definitely giving me spoilers for Game 2 years before it came out.

00:30And I had to carry a lot of weight.

00:33It's been rough these last 10 years, I have to say.

00:37No, I always thought about it as this thing that I bonded a lot with my dad, and we played the game together.

00:45And, you know, I had those few months where I was talking to Neil about potentially playing Ellie.

00:51But then as moviemaking goes, that, you know, went away for a while.

00:55And then I was really excited to see it as a show.

00:58And it was so, Bella did such an, like, an amazing job.

01:01And the two of them, like, Bella and Pedro do something so magical in the first season that I was just, I was honestly just a fan.

01:08And so when it came back around into my life, it almost felt like, oh, this was always meant to be in my life, just in a different way.

01:14And that felt really cool.

01:17And how did Bella and Pedro kind of welcome you into this world?

01:20I mean, both of them were so sweet and welcoming.

01:25I didn't get to work much with Bella, but Pedro, I had, like, a pretty significant amount of scene work with him.

01:34And he was always, like, we were just, like, making fun of each other instantly.

01:40He was just, like, someone that you just, like, he just felt like my best friend as soon as I met him, which was always nice.

01:46And how do you kind of get in and out of this mindset with kind of all this dark material?

01:51Honestly, like, bubble baths, man.

01:53Bubble baths and gossip girl.
