'Stranger Things' star Sadie Sink has been tasked by Glamour to answer an obscene number of questions. How many questions? Honestly, we lost count! What was the weirdest fan encounter? What was it like working with Taylor Swift? Has she ever spoiled 'Stranger Things' for her friends and family?
Transcript
00:00Yeah, I definitely spoil a lot of Stranger Things for my family.
00:03Like, if you want a spoiler, I will give it to you.
00:08Hey, Glamour, I'm Sadie Sink, and I'm here to answer an excessive amount of questions.
00:16So the categories that we have here are lifestyle, the price of fame, personality, womanhood,
00:24likes and dislikes, love and relationships, wildcard and career.
00:29I'm going to start with career.
00:32Describe your first day on set for Stranger Things.
00:35The first day, I was 14 years old.
00:37It was one of the Halloween trick-or-treating scenes.
00:41I was dressed like Michael Myers.
00:44I think I just had to, like, scare the boys or something.
00:47But I was very nervous.
00:48I had met the cast and stuff and everyone, but it was still such a nerve-wracking day
00:52because it's, like, the first lines, your first impression, your first time as this character.
00:57But I also remember, like, it was a night shoot, so it was super fun to, like, be up super late.
01:03And, yeah, it was a good first day.
01:04I mean, I was already friends with everyone because we had to do school.
01:08So I'd spent a lot of time with them already.
01:11We just got even closer and I was able to kind of relax a little bit.
01:15Likes and dislikes.
01:16What's an appetizer you'll always order if it's on the menu?
01:20Crudité and hummus.
01:22Always.
01:22Always, always, always.
01:24I love it when they have just, like, radish, I guess, or fennel.
01:29If they have fennel, you know it's a good crudité.
01:31Personality.
01:33Are you more of a dog person or a cat person?
01:35I like both.
01:36I genuinely am very split down the middle.
01:39Cats are very, like, they're very low maintenance, which I like.
01:42I have cats, yes.
01:44I have two.
01:45Two.
01:45Yeah, two boys.
01:47Let's go for the price of fame.
01:49What's an item that fans want you to autograph the most?
01:53It's always the Funko Pops.
01:55Like, so many of the Stranger Things action figure Funko Pops.
01:59And, like, sometimes phone cases a lot.
02:03Couple of arms.
02:04Like, just, like, arms.
02:06Which I have stopped doing because it's too much pressure.
02:09Describe your personal style in three words.
02:12Comfortable.
02:14Neutral.
02:15I really like suiting.
02:16So, suit?
02:17I don't know.
02:18Just suit?
02:19I've gotten to a point where I really don't care what I wear in my everyday life.
02:22When I'm alone, I, I don't know.
02:24It's whatever's clean.
02:26Did you do wild card?
02:27What's a fun fact about yourself that you want added to your Wikipedia page?
02:31Honestly, nothing.
02:32I think the less on there, the better, probably.
02:35Let's just keep it really plain.
02:37Who is someone you love, that you wish you spoke to more often?
02:42Probably my little sister.
02:44She's 15 now.
02:45She's all grown up.
02:46But she lives, like, in New Jersey.
02:47So, I don't see her as much as I would like to.
02:50We're a big musical theater family.
02:52And she loves musical theater, too.
02:53So, I feel like anytime she's over to my house, she's, like, always on the piano and we're singing.
02:58She's the best.
02:59She came to see me in John Proctor's The Villain on Broadway.
03:02I think, like, that was the coolest thing I've ever done in her eyes.
03:06And she loved it.
03:07Yeah, and she's, like, the perfect age for it.
03:09So, she just really loved the play a lot and took her whole school, her whole drama program to come and see it.
03:14So, that was great.
03:15Food likes and dislikes again.
03:17What kind of sweet treat do you like to have for your birthday?
03:20I honestly, like, I don't really like cake that much because I have a problem with icing.
03:24But I usually do have it on my birthday.
03:26My mom brought over some kind of vegan, gluten-free bunk cake for my birthday because there was no icing on it.
03:33So, it was the best.
03:34Not much of a birthday person, to be honest.
03:36How is the acting process different from being in music videos versus acting in TV slash movies?
03:42You mean all too well.
03:43Honestly, like, that kind of felt like it was, like, a movie in a way.
03:47There wasn't, like, it's not like they had, like, music playing on the set or anything.
03:50I mean, it's all too well.
03:51I knew the song.
03:52I guess the biggest difference is, like, there's not really, like, a set script.
03:58It only takes, like, a couple of days.
04:02Whereas, film and TV, you're with a character for a very, very long time.
04:06So, it's pretty well developed.
04:08You kind of get to grow with the character.
04:10And something I loved about playing Max, too, is that I got to grow up with her.
04:14Here we go.
04:15What's the best Halloween costume you've ever worn?
04:18The best one I've ever had probably would have to be when I was little and, like, my mom was in charge of it.
04:23I was Pebbles from the Flintstones.
04:25That was a good one.
04:26I was also Tinkerbell for several years.
04:28Also a great costume.
04:30As a grown-up, no, I'm kind of, I've been slacking a lot.
04:33I get dressed up all the time for either, like, shoots or for movies or whatever I'm working on.
04:41So, just another time where I have to get dressed up, I'm like, I don't really, I don't really need that.
04:49What's the hardest thing about getting famous at such a young age?
04:52You have to grow up a lot faster, but I also think I kind of, like, already had that before Stranger Things, just, like, working in theater and I was around adults a lot.
05:01But definitely, like, there is a lot of responsibility.
05:05I think also, like, pressure when you're in the public eye.
05:08I was always, like, super scared of, like, messing up.
05:11I was just always kind of anxious about that when I was younger and just feeling, like, a little bit isolated from, like, your high school or whatever.
05:18I didn't really have that.
05:20But overall, I think, like, having the boys on the show who were all kind of going through the same thing, that helped a lot.
05:26The hardest part was when, like, you would leave them because, like, you know, you shoot for a year and then there's, like, a couple years in between seasons.
05:33I'm going to miss that about the show.
05:34It's just, like, having that to come back to.
05:36Do you have a favorite dinosaur?
05:39Pterodactyl.
05:39That's the one that flies, right?
05:41Okay, yeah, that's my favorite.
05:42It flies.
05:43I don't know.
05:44It's really cool.
05:45I also remember there was this show called Dinosaur Train on PBS when I was younger and it followed a family of pterodactyls and I haven't really thought about it until this moment.
05:55But, yeah, I loved it.
05:57Would you ever consider releasing your own music?
06:00No.
06:01Definitely not.
06:03I don't know.
06:04I don't.
06:04I.
06:05No, I just wouldn't.
06:06I, like, sang for one movie and I'm, like, okay, I think I'm good.
06:10I don't need to try it.
06:11Yeah.
06:12It's just so scary.
06:13I don't know.
06:14I get so scared with it.
06:15I like singing with friends, though.
06:16That's fun.
06:17Maybe wild card.
06:17Why not?
06:18What's an object you lost as a child that you still think about today?
06:23Oh.
06:24I was really into American Girl dolls and I had this one that I think my mom accidentally threw in the trash.
06:31I'm not sure how that happened, but it did, and I think about that a lot.
06:37If you had an American Girl doll when you were younger, like, those are prized possessions, as was mine.
06:42I forgot what her name was.
06:43I think I named her Caroline or something.
06:45She wasn't a historical one.
06:47She was, like, yeah, like a, what did you, what did they call it?
06:50Like a Just Like Me doll.
06:51Did you probably have a historical one?
06:53Yes, I did.
06:54I had Emily, who was Molly's friend, but she had red hair and blue eyes, so I really liked her a lot.
07:01Do you prefer working in movies, TV, or on stage?
07:04On stage, I think.
07:05It's definitely the biggest challenge.
07:07I think it's the most rewarding.
07:09They're all rewarding, but, like, being on stage and, like, also just getting to act every night.
07:15It was amazing to have that.
07:16Even on the days where it's like, oh, I don't want to do a show.
07:19So often in film and TV, it's like you're not working every single day or it can feel like you're just waiting around a lot.
07:24But with the stage, it's like you get to act every day.
07:29And, yeah, that's something that I miss.
07:32Describe the last dream you remember.
07:34Oh, my God.
07:35I dreamed that, like, I had to wake up and go and do John Proctor again, which I'm not doing that show right now.
07:43But I've been getting a lot of dreams where I wake up thinking that I have to do it, and I'm like, oh, God, I haven't done it in a while.
07:49Like, I'm going to be a little rusty.
07:51And then I wake up and I'm very relieved that that doesn't have to happen.
07:55John Proctor-related dreams, which makes sense because, yeah, I was doing it every day.
08:00Oh, yeah, I'll be executive producing the movie adaptation of John Proctor as the villain, which I've never done before.
08:08I'm very excited.
08:09I love Kimberly Bellflower so much, and she's brilliant.
08:13And so to be able to kind of continue this collaboration with her is, yeah, I'm super excited.
08:19And it'll be such a great education, too.
08:22Is it your first producing photo?
08:24Yeah.
08:24It'll be a learning curve for sure, but I care about this material so, so much.
08:28Just to be in the room with the people that are making this happen is going to be, yeah.
08:34I'm super excited, yeah.
08:37What movie or TV show do you quote the most?
08:40Probably The Devil Wears Prada.
08:42Me and my brother quote that all the time.
08:44By all means, move at a glacial pace.
08:46You know how it thrills me.
08:47I feel like I've met Anne.
08:50I have not met Meryl.
08:52I would definitely remember if I met Meryl Streep, but I have not met her yet.
08:57But one day.
08:57Do you think pets love you as much as you love them?
09:00I'd like to think yes.
09:02If I'm just talking about my cats, I just got them.
09:04So I think it's more of a slow burn on their end, but I definitely am obsessed with them.
09:10I like the wild card ones.
09:11Who was your favorite teacher growing up?
09:13Well, I mean, we had an on-set tutor that was with us from ages 14 through 18.
09:20Our teacher Marina, she was there.
09:22She was even there for the last season, because if there's ever a kid in a scene, she's always with them.
09:26We're basically required to get three hours of schoolwork done every single day that we're working or not working during a school day.
09:33Sometimes you can get a minimum of one hour, and the other two hours you have to pull from your bank, which is a series of extra hours that you've built up over the time.
09:41So say I went in to do school on an off day, did five hours, then those two would go into my bank.
09:49And they want you to build up the bank as much as you can.
09:51So if it's a very busy day and you only have time for one hour of school, then they can pull from the bank.
09:57But yeah, it's chaotic.
09:58You never get anything done, because also sometimes you're just working in, like, 20-minute increments.
10:04That's a big ask for a kid who doesn't want to be doing school anyway.
10:09But yeah, she was definitely by far my favorite teacher and one of my only teachers.
10:12No, I had many, but, like, I was with her the most.
10:14So, yeah.
10:15Marina.
10:16Have you ever kept one of your costumes?
10:18What did you keep?
10:19I usually keep, like, something from everything.
10:21Always the shoes.
10:22Any shoes that I wear, I have to take home with me.
10:26So I have, like, all of Max's vans.
10:28And then, like, the boots I wore in John Proctor, I just kept those.
10:31I also have Max's watch.
10:33I took a lot from Stranger Things.
10:34I have her watch.
10:35I have jackets.
10:36I have hoodies.
10:37I have skateboards.
10:39I have Walkmans, cassette tapes.
10:41Yeah, I have all the Max essentials for sure.
10:44But my favorite is her skateboard, and I have it, like, hanging above one of the doors in my house, which I love.
10:49Have you ever accidentally spoiled your movies or TV shows for your friends?
10:55Never accidentally, but I definitely do.
10:58Like, if you want a spoiler, I will give it to you.
11:03But it's only if I, like, really trust the person.
11:05It usually involves me, like, joking about something that I had to do on screen.
11:10But, yeah, I definitely spoil a lot of Stranger Things for my family.
11:14I don't know.
11:15Like, you spend so much time in between seasons where it's, like, you forget that, like, oh, this is a big show, and people really care about spoilers.
11:24So it's, you always have to remind yourself to be a little bit more secretive about things.
11:28What's a beauty secret you learned from a family member?
11:39Nothing.
11:39What's your favorite girl power anthem?
11:42I don't know, probably, like, Spice Girls or something.
11:44What Olympic sport do you think you'd be best at?
11:47God, like, nothing.
11:49What was your style icon growing up?
11:51I didn't have one.
11:52I didn't care.
11:53What do you wish more people asked you about in interviews?
11:57Theater, Broadway, what that was like, I guess, when I was little.
12:01What color do you always look good in?
12:03Blue, hopefully.
12:04I don't know.
12:05How long did it take to learn your best red carpet poses?
12:09It's still a work in progress.
12:10I have no idea.
12:11No one ever taught me how to do that.
12:13Have you ever read a harmless fact about yourself that was completely false all the time?
12:17What event have you been to that had the best food?
12:21Ooh, not an event, but I went to Eleven Madison Park for the first time recently, and it was
12:25incredible.
12:26What is the item you've collected the most of?
12:29Shoes.
12:30What's a weird but harmless gift a fan has sent you?
12:33A photo of my dad?
12:35What labels and boxes have you been put in that you've had to shake off?
12:39I guess that I'm still 14 years old, but I don't, I mean, whatever.
12:43Do you know you're my, no, I don't.
12:45What is this?
12:46Myers-Briggs personality type?
12:48No, I'm an Aries.
12:49I don't know if that is what that means.
12:51When was the first moment you realized you were famous?
12:54Probably when like people like were shouting my name at the, at something.
12:58And I was like, oh, they know my name.
13:00What's a hobby you wish you had more time for?
13:03I guess any hobby in general.
13:04I don't really have any hobbies.
13:06So I wish I had more time for any hobby.
13:08What is your earliest memory from childhood?
13:10Probably my dad teaching me how to ride a bike.
13:13Oh no, right.
13:13I was riding a scooter.
13:14I was riding a scooter.
13:15It was my birthday and I made a grand entrance into the dining room and it was on my scooter
13:21and I was wearing a princess dress and that's the earliest memory I have.
13:27Wow.
13:28Glamour, that really was an excessive amount of questions.
13:31Thank you so much for joining me.
13:33That was a lot, but they were good ones.
13:36They were really good, like fun ones that you don't get to answer all the time.
13:40Goodbye.
