00:00Congratulations on this film.
00:02You've toured the world, you've performed at the Grammys, the Oscars.
00:06What is this experience like for you to be stepping onto the big screen?
00:09Man, this is an incredible experience.
00:13I never thought that I would reach this moment in my life this soon.
00:15I've been working towards getting to a place like this, but
00:18to be here right now, I feel super blessed.
00:21I heard that your audition process was a little bit kept under wraps.
00:25So can you talk about that experience?
00:27Because you didn't know a lot going into it.
00:28Yeah, I didn't know a lot, it was definitely super under wraps.
00:32I got a small scene for the audition where I was just kind of playing the guitar,
00:36and I find out he's a kid, he's a sharecropper.
00:39And so I'm like, yeah, this is something interesting that I think I could be a part of.
00:42And then once I got the full script and I read the whole thing, I was like, wow,
00:47this is crazy.
00:49Well, I know, of course, music is such a big element and a big part of this movie.
00:53What were those conversations like with Ryan Coogler in order to get music and
00:58have that be a big part of the film?
00:59Yeah, I mean, Ryan definitely, we had many talks about my character and, you know, how
01:04the music would evolve.
01:05He actually sent me like an essential blues playlist where I was kind of able to listen
01:10to like artists like Charlie Patton, Howl and Wolf, you know, and all of these guys.
01:13And they kind of helped to shape, you know, how my character would sound.
01:16What sort of music were you inspired by when you were kind of getting ready?
01:21And I also heard that you were also part of the soundtrack.
01:24Yes, yes.
01:25I was a part of the soundtrack.
01:26I got to work with Ludwig Gorenson and he was incredible, man.
01:30So I got to do a couple of songs on there, but I can't wait for y'all to hear, yeah.
01:33And also, of course, working with Michael B. Jordan.
01:37What was it like and that first day on set with him?
01:39Man, that first day on set, the energy was super high, man.
01:43He's been a real inspiration to me, you know, to be working with him right now.
01:47At this moment, I feel super grateful, man.
01:49Yeah.
01:49And of course, there's been a lot of iconic vampire movies throughout cinema.
01:54What is one that really changed the game for you?
01:57Oh, man.
01:59There's so many, but one of my favorites is Eddie Murphy's Brooklyn, Vampire in Brooklyn.
02:03Yeah, yeah.
02:04I love that one, yeah.
02:06And then this one's going to be a game changer for a lot of people now.
02:09Oh, for sure.
02:10This is one that's super different.
02:12You know, it's unlike any movie I've ever seen.
02:14There's so many different genres in one.
02:16And I really think everybody's going to be able to kind of take their own take from it.
