00:00Good evening, I'm Gabrielle Lopez and this is PTV News Now, our top story for tonight.
00:07First up, the Philippine Army has thrown its weight behind the 18-day nationwide campaign
00:12to end violence against women determined not to let abuse slip through the cracks.
00:17Army Chief Lieutenant General Antonio Nartate urged all personnel to support the cause,
00:22emphasizing that the institution is pulling out all the stops to strengthen gender and development policies.
00:28With the theme United for a Va-Free Philippines, the campaign, led by the Philippine Commission on Women,
00:34adopts a whole-of-nation approach to ensure no victim is left out in the cold,
00:38citing data showing that 4.8 million Filipino women have suffered violence.
00:43The initiative aims to rally communities, empower men as allies, and inspire the youth to raise their voice against abuse.
00:50The campaign also calls on bystanders to step up, break the silence, and intervene safely,
00:56ensuring that no act of violence is swept under the rug.
01:02One of the organizers or conveyors of the Trillion Pesos March rally,
01:05whose next mass protest gathering takes place this weekend, made it crystal clear,
01:10earlier today, resignation of the duly constituted authorities or elected public officials is not an option.
01:17Kidapuan Bishop Colin Bagaforo, one of the proponents of the Trillion Pesos March rally,
01:22from the ranks of the clergy, said calling for the public officials to step down is not the group's agenda.
01:28The outstanding message of the protest rally is to hold all those who stole from government
01:32through flood control project irregularities and put them behind bars.
01:36The clergy has repeatedly insisted it is against any measure that is not within the scope of the charter
01:42in seeking resolution to the flood control mess and widespread corruption in the bureaucracy.
01:47Likewise, the Trillion Pesos protest march and rally, which kicked off on September 21,
01:54strictly advocates for peaceful resistance that absolutely eschews any acts of violence.
01:59Calling for resignation of the president is the apparent objective of the United People's Initiative Group,
02:05who seeks for him to step down to give way to the vice president,
02:08which more than half of the nation absolutely rejects.
02:11It was president-elect Donald Trump's highly touted and arguably most transformative initiative
02:19in his 2.0 presidency to shrink the government workforce and slash government spending.
02:24After barely nine months since its inception and hundreds of thousands of pink slips
02:29handed out to the government-hired workers,
02:31the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOES, has quietly disbanded and faded into relevance.
02:37But the handwriting on DOES's imminent demise was on the wall in the spring
02:41in the aftermath of Elon Musk's departure and falling out,
02:45with the president on the issue of his big, beautiful tax bill, which eventually passed muster.
02:50This despite Trump's inking of an executive order earlier in the year,
02:54extending DOES's effectivity to July 2026.
02:59Musk's decision to quit earlier left DOES without a clear-cut roadmap
03:03on its continued mission to further downside the federal government
03:07and with no able political-willed successor to fill in the void.
03:11Even more sustained unemployment and underemployment,
03:14stubborn inflation, rising cost of food and essentials,
03:18and the inability of the Trump administration to generate jobs
03:21have led to a sputtering economy and Trump's tanking trust and job approval ratings.
03:26And that brings us to the end of tonight's broadcast.
03:31We'll be back tomorrow evening.
03:34I'm Gabrielle Lopez.
03:35Thank you for letting us be a part of your evening.
