00:30Joe Flacco is dealing with a shoulder injury.
00:32How do you need to step up in the run game today?
00:34Well, that's all of us.
00:35That's the whole line.
00:36That's myself.
00:37That's Joe.
00:37That's the receiver.
00:38So anything that we can do to bring extra energy, execute on a higher level, that's what we've got to do today.
00:45You've had an outstanding four weeks, over 100 yards from scrimmage in each of those games.
00:49What's been the secret sauce for you personally?
00:51Just making the most of the plays that come my way, executing at a high level, and just trying to do everything I can to help this team win.
00:58Thanks.
00:59Good luck today.
00:59Thank you.
01:00Thank you.
01:01We've had the flip of the coin.
01:02The Bengals have won.
01:04They've deferred.
01:05The Patriots will get the opening kickoff.
01:08McPherson has the ball teed up.
01:10And deep back, Kyle Williams and Terrell Jennings for the pass.
01:15Going to get a look at this number nine offense.
01:18And the Bengal defense coming in number 32.
01:21Cincinnati, New England.
01:23And we are underway and grab here by Williams, who is a rookie out of Washington State with a big time hit right off the bat made by Giles Harris on a 23-yard return.
01:37So there's a lot to like about Drake May, the passer rating number two, the completion percentage number one in the NFL.
01:44Well, and the fact that he spreads the ball around so much and he likes to push the ball downfield, that is something that Josh McDaniels has put into this offense.
01:52You get the running game going, which they have Ramond-Berry Stevenson back today to mess with Henderson in that one-two combo in the backfield.
02:00Henderson begins as the starter.
02:02Stevenson's missed the last couple games.
02:05And it's a handoff to Travion Henderson, who is the rookie out of Ohio State.
02:10And he barrels his way into the defense and is out to the 27 on a gain of three.
02:15They'll be counting on these running backs.
02:17And boy, you couldn't ask for two better ones, young ones in that backfield.
02:21Well, and Henderson's been able to step up with the injury to Stevenson the last couple of weeks.
02:24But getting Ramond-Berry back is going to be a big boost for this offense because they can attack the defense in so many different ways.
02:31And they like to utilize the two running back formations as much as anybody in the league.
02:36Or Henderson, fourth consecutive game strike.
02:39And Drake May on second down and seven.
02:43Walked by Moses.
02:44Underneath they go.
02:45Grabbed here.
02:46Matt Collins, who comes up with his 31st catch of the season.
02:50Gain of seven.
02:52And he'll be about a yard shy of the first.
02:54He's out just beyond the 33.
02:57Well, and I love the way May watch.
02:58He looks out to his left.
02:59He wants to get a quick throw.
03:00He works through the progression.
03:01He gets to his fourth receiver working underneath, just maintaining calmness in the pocket, not taking off and running,
03:08but just working through that progression has been a big part of his success this season.
03:15You're exactly right.
03:16Two rookies on the left side, on the blind side for the quarterback, May.
03:21It'll be third and one.
03:23Henderson will try to punch her.
03:24And he was drilled on the play, hit by Carter.
03:27And he's going to get the first down.
03:29By maybe the length of a football, they'll move the change.
03:31Barrett Carter made the stop.
03:33And Travion Henderson gets the first down for New England.
03:41Patriot defender is down.
03:43It's Wilson.
03:48Make it Jared Wilson.
03:50The left guard is down.
03:52He's one of those rookies on the left side.
03:54As Mike Vrabel will check out his rookie guard and will step aside.
03:58The down Patriot was starting left guard, Jared Wilson, the rookie out of Georgia.
04:04He had taken the most snaps of any rookie guard in the NFL.
04:09This line has been intact for most of the season except for once.
04:12Ben Brown, who took the place of Wilson early in the season, will take his place right now
04:17with a first and ten handoff.
04:20And Henderson goes wheeling to the 41 with a gain of six.
04:25So, Brown is the new left guard starting there earlier in the season for Wilson
04:29as you watch the play and Barrett making the stop.
04:32Well, it doesn't look like it's going to be hopefully nothing too serious with Wilson.
04:36Hopefully, just misses a snap or two.
04:38But good job there pushing the running to the outside and then the cutback pick up six yards.
04:46Anderson remains the back second down four.
04:48Gets the pitch right here looking for a Hunter Henry block.
04:51And he was stoned on the play.
04:53Chris Jenkins and Geno Stone making the stop.
04:57Oren Burks comes in there.
04:59He played for the champion Eagles a year ago.
05:02And he is down slow to get up.
05:06And the clock continues to tick.
05:08And another injury timeout with a look at Burks, who was initially drafted by Green Bay, played
05:16with the Niners, like I said last year, part of the Eagles' Super Bowl championship team.
05:21Watch it again.
05:21Trey Hendrickson is out today again for the Bengals.
05:33They're all pro linemen and getting off.
05:35And that's a good sign for Burks.
05:38Hendrickson is out today.
05:40Both starting defensive ends.
05:41Hendrickson and Shamar Stewart both gone.
05:45That's going to be tough.
05:47It is.
05:47You miss that many bodies.
05:49And they've been dealing with that in terms of injuries all season long.
05:57Murphy, I thought, played well last week.
05:59He was all over the field.
06:00And maybe didn't come up with the numbers.
06:03But he was disruptive in the backfield against the Steelers last week.
06:06Henderson, the back, third down and four, made to the air.
06:09There was a block by Campbell, a wobbly throw, deflected on the play, and incomplete.
06:14Down the defense holds.
06:16And they got pressure on that one.
06:18It may have been Chris Jenkins, who came through, deflected that pass, bringing up fourth down and four.
06:24Watch number 90.
06:25Right in the middle of the screen here.
06:29He's going to push the pocket.
06:30He gets the arm of May as he's trying to follow through.
06:36And another player down for the Bengals.
06:38But, wow.
06:40This has been a rugged start to this one.
06:44Player down now is Marco Wilson, a former New England Patriot.
06:50Played by the Patriots last year.
06:53Taking a look at Wilson.
07:01Yeah, both starting defensive ends out today for the number 32 defense of the Bengals.
07:07And watch it again, 24 for Cincy.
07:14Hmm.
07:19Almost looked like he grabbed that right hamstring.
07:21It did, yeah.
07:23And they'll take a look at him.
07:28So the Patriots have their punting unit out there.
07:31On this fourth down, Bryce Behringer will be punting.
07:36And deep back for Cincinnati will be Charlie Jones with three kick returns in his career for touchdowns.
07:45Into that bright Ohio sun from the six.
07:48Hang a 4-6-9 and out of bounds.
07:50Well, if you're Al Golden, the defensive coordinator for the Bengals, you're excited with the job, getting your defense, getting the Patriots off the field.
07:57This will bring us to Joe Flacco when we come back to Cincinnati.
08:05Trent Green, the Patriots just punted.
08:07Here comes 40-year-old Joe Flacco with another start for Cincy.
08:10Well, he is dealing with that right A-C joint in his right shoulder, but it hasn't hampered his numbers.
08:18He's putting, since he's taken over his starter here in the trade, 12 touchdowns, just three interceptions.
08:23Chase Brown, the back, it's first and ten.
08:26Brown outs, a good putt by Orlando Brown.
08:29First down run as he takes it into the secondary.
08:32Hit on the play by Jones.
08:34Picks up ten on the ground for the Bengals.
08:38Well, I mentioned at the beginning, Chase Brown's averaging over six yards per carry the last five games.
08:44And he's going up against the number one ranked run defense who struggled last week against the Jets.
08:51Jets ran for 140 yards on the ground last week, but round off with a big run on first down.
08:58First down and ten.
09:00And underneath they go.
09:02Out to the 34.
09:03That's Gesicki, the former Patriot, with the grab.
09:07And brought down by Ellis.
09:09Gain of five on the play.
09:10So Joe Flacco, you know the story.
09:12He was traded on a Tuesday.
09:14He started for the Bengals on Sunday.
09:16He has gone as a starter one and four.
09:19Well, the numbers have been there and the points have been there.
09:22Averaging over 30 points per game with him at quarterback.
09:25And just not getting the results.
09:26Only that one big win against the Steelers a few weeks back in week seven.
09:30Ty's Brooks is the running back.
09:33The record setter rookie from Texas Tech.
09:35Second and five.
09:36Tries to go inside and met with the wall.
09:39And down at about the 36.
09:42Hit by a couple.
09:43Landry on top.
09:44Gain of two.
09:45It'll be third down and three.
09:48And these two will be definitely on Flacco's radar today.
09:52Well, no Jamar Chase.
09:53So I think Christian Gonzalez, whenever he's going to be matched up, it'll be on T. Higgins when they decide to go man to man.
09:59And then Robert Spillane is just, he's just a guy that's passionate about football.
10:03You talk to him.
10:04You watch him play.
10:05You see what he does and what he's about.
10:07He fits perfectly into what Mike Verbal wants in this locker room and on the defensive side.
10:12They're down three.
10:14Chase Brown is back in.
10:15Here's the bat.
10:17And Flacco to the air.
10:19With time and the throw.
10:21If it's held on to, it's a first down.
10:23They go outside.
10:24It's a Gesicki catch covered by Craig Woodson.
10:28It'll be a first down.
10:29Another one.
10:30On third and three, the Bengals get four.
10:32Well, and how critical it is to get Gesicki back off of the IR with that pec injury.
10:37Especially the fact with Jamar Chase suspended today.
10:42Another opportunity for Flacco to pick up first downs.
10:46And Gesicki's fired up by getting that one.
10:48Gesicki had the chance to have surgery ending his season.
10:52He chose to let it heal on its own.
10:53The pec injury did out there today.
10:56First down and ten.
10:57Brown the back.
10:57And Chase Brown the call.
10:59He played at Illinois.
11:00And he's thrilled on the play.
11:01And look at the avalanche of Jersey's Elijah Ponder and others right there to make the stop on a gain of one.
11:07No six yards on that one, Kevin.
11:09The guys up front were like, we're not having any of that on that run.
11:12Did a great job of plugging it up in the middle and collapsing and not allowing him to bounce to the outside.
11:18How about the quick release and the quick reads of Joe Flacco and what he's done for this offense?
11:23Well, that's important when you consider how many sacks have been going on and what the offensive line,
11:28the pressure you put on the offensive line.
11:29And Flacco understanding to get rid of the ball.
11:31Only eight sacks in the five start that he had.
11:34Second down and nine.
11:36That's T. Higgins who makes the catch.
11:39Gonzalez with the tackle beyond the 46.
11:42They pick up five on the play.
11:44Let's go to Adam Schein for the first time today.
11:48That's the other guy.
11:49Now listen, Jones has been having some turnover issues of late before he's put together a nice resume.
11:53It really is.
11:54What the Colts have been able to do, obviously, Jonathan Taylor gets a lot of the attention.
11:58But Daniel Jones has really found a new home.
12:00Let it down for here for Flacco.
12:03And right on the screws.
12:04Gesicki again.
12:05Out of bounds.
12:06Shoved by Jones.
12:07Half the first into Patriot territory.
12:09Down to the 42.
12:10And he got 12.
12:11Well, that's his third catch already here, Kevin.
12:14And so I think this is going to be a focal point.
12:16And if you think, hey, I'm just going to go specifically to T. Higgins and get away from some of the other guys, all of a sudden Gesicki coming back healthy.
12:26He's fired up, getting another first down, getting it into New England territory.
12:29And the invariable adjustments will be coming.
12:32Yes, definitely.
12:34Brown the back.
12:35First and 10.
12:37Began at the 19.
12:38After the Patriot punt.
12:41Good time.
12:42Flacco.
12:43Deep.
12:43And he got tripped up as he was looking for Jones and the coverage by Carlton Davis.
12:50And they're going for Charlie Jones, who hasn't caught a pass all year long.
12:54But with Jamar Chase out, they've had to move down and everybody moving up.
12:57Well, a concerted effort by New England here to take away T. Higgins.
13:00See the jam at the line of scrimmage and then double over the top.
13:04So Flacco goes to his one-on-one on the deep corner.
13:07And Jones just not able to get loose on that high angle.
13:09Watch it.
13:13Second down and 10.
13:15First possession for the Bengal.
13:18And Chase Brown.
13:20Lead block in there.
13:21Thrown by Reisner as he tries to dig and curls near the 35.
13:26And picked up seven on the play.
13:28Nice run.
13:29Third and three coming up.
13:33Well, they missed Jamar Chase.
13:34One of the top.
13:35He was a triple crown winner a season ago.
13:37He was.
13:38And you can see he picked up right where he left off.
13:40He leads the NFL in targets and receptions.
13:43Third in receiving yards.
13:47And the interesting thing that Flacco said it goes.
13:49I've never played with a team with a double one receiver and another receiver.
13:53There's a third and three underneath.
13:55And dropped at the 30.
13:56They were looking for Higgins.
13:58Heavily covered on the play.
13:59Spillane was in the vicinity.
14:02And watching the top receiver today, T. Higgins.
14:05They're going to bring out the field goal unit.
14:09You know, I mentioned at the top about being more aggressive and going for touchdowns instead of field goals.
14:13So, I was a little surprised to see the hesitation by the sideline to put the kicking unit out.
14:19This is going to be about a 53-yard field goal attempt.
14:21But McPherson in pregame warm-ups missed from this direction from 60.
14:28But this is a 54-yarder.
14:30His long this year is 50.
14:33Evan McPherson to put the first points on the board.
14:37Basically a winless day.
14:38And he is dead.
14:40Solid.
14:40Perfect.
14:423-0.
14:42Evan Bengals on top.
14:4454-yard.
14:46Season-long field goal.
14:49McPherson.
14:55Beautiful day.
14:56Pacor Stadium, downtown Cincinnati.
14:58You know, it is hard to find any issues with the Patriot defense.
15:01But there is one that kind of stands out.
15:03Opponents' first possession scores through opening drives.
15:07They've now allowed six touchdowns and nine field goals.
15:12And that was something that Mike talked to us about the other day.
15:15Well, you have to make adjustments.
15:16And I think that's the thing that jumps out to me is they're giving up all those points on opening drives, yet they're fifth in the NFL in points allowed defensively.
15:25So that just tells you Zach Corr, who's now taking over as defensive play caller, the adjustments they're able to make after that opening drive.
15:31Here's the young receiver.
15:32Here's the young receiver, Kyle Williams, who will bring it up.
15:34And again, he is met by Joe Giles Harris.
15:37Mel, on that kickoff return.
15:39Yeah, and Kevin, the Patriots go back on offense here.
15:41Rookie left guard Jared Wilson was in serious discomfort coming off the field after that first drive.
15:46He could barely put any weight on his right leg.
15:48They loaded him onto the cart and took him into the locker room to have his right ankle evaluated further.
15:53His return is questionable, so Ben Brown will man the left guard position for the time being.
15:57Thank you, Mel.
15:58Ben Brown is a former Bengal.
16:00And he played last year on the Raider practice squad signed by the Patriots.
16:07And here he is now playing.
16:11It's first and ten.
16:12May.
16:13Yeah.
16:14And incomplete.
16:15And sails over the head of his running back, Trevon Henderson.
16:20It's second down and ten for May.
16:23And I can't even tell you where that ball was intended to go.
16:26He is a play fake.
16:27I thought, well, there's the guy out there on a swing.
16:30Henderson's on a swing.
16:31But then you also have a drag route.
16:33And the ball was kind of lobbed right in between the middle of him.
16:36So, watch as this ball lands right between them.
16:40So.
16:43Trevon Henderson remains the back.
16:46May so far, one of three.
16:48Holland's on the move.
16:50Second down and ten.
16:53Good time.
16:55And underneath, they go to Henderson.
16:57And he was hit initially on the play by Geno Stone, a former Baltimore Raven.
17:01It's a gain of four, bringing up third and six.
17:04And that's more of what we're used to seeing from Drake May.
17:06This season.
17:07And Josh McDaniels talked to us about it this week.
17:09He said what he's doing is he's being very concise, looking through his progressions,
17:13and making a decision, making a quick decision, especially the last couple of weeks.
17:18Not taking very many sacks.
17:20Only two over the last two games.
17:23Ramondre Stevenson coming in for the first time.
17:26First snap since week eight.
17:28He's in right now.
17:29Third down and six for Drake May.
17:37And to the side, they go high for Hunter Henry.
17:41With the coverage on the play by T.J. Ivey.
17:43And that was a quick offensive possession for New England.
17:50Here comes their punting unit again for a second straight time.
17:52I want you to keep an eye right here.
17:54Geno Stone's going to come off the edge.
17:56He was lined up on this side.
17:58And after he moved Ramondre Stevenson up to guard that A-gap,
18:02Geno, after the declaration was made, saw what happened, came around to the outside,
18:07and knew that there was no one there to block him because of that declaration.
18:10And so he had a free hitter.
18:12That's why he had to get rid of the ball so quickly.
18:14Bear Ringer to Jones from the 23.
18:16Got by one.
18:18That was Woods.
18:19And then brought down on the play.
18:21Mapu gets him.
18:22Hang time of 4-2.
18:2445-yard punt.
18:26Flacco will get it with a 3-0 lead from Cincinnati on CBS.
18:33You can't always count on Sundays with the NFL on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.
18:39And Ozak Taylor was hoping he could count on his number-one tight end.
18:43Being back today, Mike Gesicki with the suspended Jamar Chase on the sideline.
18:48Well, and he's already been valuable so far today.
18:50Gesicki with three catches and 21 yards, two first downs.
18:53Taj Brooks will be wrapped up on that first and 10 handoff.
18:57Mel, Christian Ellis the stop.
18:59And, Kev, I caught up with T. Higgins on the field during warm-ups.
19:02He told me he checked in on Jamar Chase all week, made sure he kept his feet moving and
19:06got his work in.
19:07He took him out to dinner and talked him through the game plan to keep him in the loop.
19:10So when he's watching from home today, he knows exactly what's happening.
19:13And for T., he said his mindset is the same as always today.
19:15Dominate every play.
19:17He was excited to go up against Christian Gonzalez for the first time.
19:19He said he watched all of his tape this week.
19:21He's a great corner.
19:22And it should be a great battle today.
19:23And he and Flacco have really had a connection.
19:26Five touchdown receptions last four games.
19:29Second down and seven.
19:32It's a pitch out here as they come around the corner.
19:34And look at this one.
19:35Out of bounds.
19:36It's Chase Brown who stampers for eights on a second down and seven.
19:41That's a first down to the Bengal 35.
19:43Well, I like the misdirection.
19:44Quick little flip to the outside.
19:46You get a lead blocker.
19:47And Brown just using that speed to get around the corner to pick up the first down.
19:53So here's Taj Brown, or rather Chase Brown, who is out of Illinois.
19:59Began at Western Michigan.
20:01Last year, rushed for over 900 yards.
20:04Almost was at 1,000.
20:06They got Taj Brooks in there right now.
20:09First down and 10.
20:10Out of the backfield here is the spinning Noah Fant.
20:13Knocked out of bounds by Carlton Davis.
20:16They're using the tight ends.
20:17They get up to the 44.
20:19It's a gain of eight.
20:20Well, because of the effectiveness of running the football,
20:22what they've been able to do with Brown, that just little play fake.
20:26It's not something that Flacco does a lot of, but watch the fake.
20:29And they're going to bootleg out to his right to Fant,
20:33who's able to get close to another first down.
20:36What are the ramifications with his sore right shoulder?
20:39What things is he doing?
20:40So number one, it's the pain of it.
20:42Number two would be the strength and the range of motion of it.
20:45That would be something to keep an eye on is if he has a number of batted passes
20:49because he's not able to get his arm as high on the release of the ball.
20:52As you see another first down run for Chase up the middle.
20:55Yeah, he has another one.
20:56And he picks up a good game in the play of six
20:59and takes it just near midfield outside the 49 of the Bengals.
21:04But an A.C. sprain in a quarterback's shoulder,
21:07as we look at Chase Brown's numbers over the first part of the season
21:11compared to what he's done in the last four games.
21:14But with a quarterback, when you're dealing with an A.C. injury,
21:17it takes away your strength and it takes away some of that range of motion, as I said.
21:22So moving around the pocket where you're not getting your legs into it
21:25makes it a little bit more difficult to throw.
21:27Brown's numbers from scrimmage have been terrific.
21:30Over 104 straight games, as you saw, first and ten.
21:33Here they go outside.
21:35And again, here's another tied in.
21:36This is Drew Sample with his sixth catch of the season banged out of bounds.
21:41So is Flacco wearing like an extra protective something in there?
21:45He is. He'll have a donut pad on it,
21:47which cuts the circle out of the middle
21:48because that A.C. joint is that bone that sticks up your collarbone.
21:52Right.
21:52That sticks up.
21:53So you make a donut pad so that that bone has a space.
21:57And then you put some cushion around it to go underneath your shoulder pad.
22:01Hey, Teddy.
22:02What do you want to score?
22:03Second down and ten.
22:04Fifty-three.
22:05Fifty-four-yard field goal in the first possession for the Bengals.
22:08Now at midfield, second and ten.
22:11And Chase Brown, he'll take it up the middle again
22:13and into Patriot territory.
22:16He's inside the 45 and hit by a couple, including Cyrus Tonga.
22:21And it'll be third down and five.
22:25Well, the challenge with this offensive line is going to be, listen,
22:28if we want to establish the run, which they clearly want to,
22:30Chase Brown now with six carries already,
22:33it's more of an attitude thing, right?
22:36You're going up against a defense that's number one against the run.
22:40And so, you know if that's your mindset going in, okay,
22:43we've got to be physical today.
22:45And so far, they've started off strong.
22:48They're down five.
22:49They bring four.
22:50Flacco easily downfield.
22:52An incomplete looking for Gusecki.
22:54And the coverage by the safety, Craig Woodson.
22:56Woodson, by the way, has played the most snaps of any defender
22:59on the Patriot defense, which is number eight coming into today.
23:04Well, Gusecki's just going to be working from the left side over to the right.
23:07He has a step, the ball's just a little high and behind.
23:11And he tries extending and getting the one-handed catch.
23:16How about this?
23:16We're going to go for it on fourth down and five.
23:18Well, this goes to the aggressiveness of it, right?
23:20You're either going to try a 63-yard field goal
23:22or you're going to punt and try and pin them down in there.
23:24But I'm guessing they'll go with a hard count here
23:27to try and get a cheap one right away.
23:29If that doesn't work, you've got to keep your eye on him.
23:33Oh, there you go.
23:34There you go.
23:37Chase on.
23:45Offside.
23:47T-shirt number 44.
23:49We'll never know if they're really going to snap it or not.
23:52I know it.
23:53We don't know if they're really going to snap it or not.
23:55But that's what a veteran quarterback at 18 years can do, right?
23:59Exactly.
23:59You called it.
24:00You called it.
24:01And you quarterbacks practice that, don't you?
24:05I mean, even at home, like driving home after practice, you practice your cadence.
24:08You do, and even it was interesting this season, you know, talking to some quarterbacks in the bye week.
24:15Sam Darnold talked to us about during the bye week, listening to his cadence,
24:18wanting to change up the rhythm of his cadence in the hard count.
24:20It's Josie Vash on the jet sweep.
24:24Gonzalez will get him from behind.
24:26No, they got the tackle by Spillane, who was catching up.
24:29Gonzalez is coming on the wing.
24:31Gain of five on the play, and Spillane was the one to get him right there.
24:36It's that 14 that's throwing you off.
24:38Well, he's going with 14.
24:40Yes, it is.
24:41Well, there's a story in back to that, too, as most Patriots fans know.
24:45He has a very famous member of his family.
24:50His grandfather was a Heisman Trophy winner, Johnny Latner, at Notre Dame.
24:55Second down five.
24:57We'll get into that story a little bit later on as we close out this first quarter.
25:00Drive continuing for the Bengals.
25:02Second down and five.
25:04Brown the back.
25:05And that may have been deflected, and it's incomplete.
25:09I think Durden got a hand on it.
25:11Corey Durden was coming through, and with Milton Williams out,
25:16and I are bound for the next couple weeks.
25:20They're counting on others like Durden to fill the place.
25:24Well, and because of that, you have to try and get the ball over the top.
25:28They're trying to fake screen to the right,
25:30and then a quick little back screen with a lead blocker out to the front.
25:34But because of the leaping defender, you have to lay it over the top,
25:37and it's hard when you're that close to one another to be able to touch it in there.
25:42Chase Brown the back.
25:43Third down and five.
25:44Second possession for the Bengals.
25:46Crumbling pocket.
25:47Here they come.
25:48Down he goes.
25:49Flacco is whipped on the play, hit by Landry.
25:52Here's some assistance from Barmore.
25:55They pressure the pocket and knock him down.
25:57Back to the 45.
25:59They lose 10.
26:00It's fourth down.
26:02And they're going to bring the punting unit out.
26:04Well, now you have to punt.
26:06So here's the matchup we were talking about.
26:07Christian Gonzalez is going to be one-on-one on Tee Higgins when they're in man coverage.
26:13He's trying to get some separation and just nowhere for him to go with the ball.
26:17Flacco trying to find a one-on-one matchup to chase Brown out on the left side.
26:20And just no time left.
26:26Ryan Rico, one of the best punters in the NFL for the Bengals.
26:31And deep back, the ever-dangerous Marcus Jones, who fair catches the ball inside the 10.
26:38Placed well by the Bengal punter.
26:413-0 Cincinnati.
26:43Over the first place, Patriots on CBS.
26:50Some of the numbers through the first 15 minutes of our game here.
26:54Only a little over four minutes possession time for New England's offense.
26:59They've got it now after the Cincinnati punt.
27:01Well, in only nine snaps of offense in that first quarter, Al Golden's defense is playing really well here.
27:07Forcing two punts and getting off the field.
27:10Made to a 5.
27:11Travion Henderson is the back.
27:14And now on the fly.
27:15First and 10.
27:16They'll go underneath.
27:17Low.
27:17And was it grab?
27:19Yes, it was.
27:19Scooped in.
27:20Stephon Diggs makes the catch.
27:22In his six out to the 15.
27:24Well, this is low and away.
27:26And this is...
27:26Good catch.
27:27Yeah.
27:27Really good.
27:28I didn't know if he was able to get his hands underneath it.
27:30But after that look at it, it does appear that his hand gets underneath the football.
27:36Right now, Drake May is just not in any kind of rhythm.
27:40Three of six.
27:42They've harassed him quite a bit today.
27:44See if he can settle down.
27:45Ben Brown still at the left guard.
27:48Second down, four and...
27:50That is picked off on the play.
27:52Crowd by Geno Stone.
27:53Blockers ahead, including Knight.
27:56He is in and up.
28:00Pick six.
28:0233-yard return.
28:09Well, as I said, Drake May hasn't looked himself.
28:15Right in the middle of the field is Geno Stone.
28:17He just lobs it down the middle and it just floats on him.
28:23He's trying to get it to the tight end.
28:26And he just air mails it.
28:28An easy interception for Geno Stone.
28:31As you see, the pressure there maybe didn't allow him to follow through.
28:35But easy interception and quick turnaround for the defense as they get Geno Stone into the end zone.
28:42Here's McPherson trying the extra points.
28:45Stone getting his second career.
28:47Pick six.
28:47High snap.
28:48Down it goes.
28:4910-0 Cincinnati.
28:52Just into the second quarter.
28:55May with his sixth interception of the season.
28:58And Geno Stone, a veteran of five years, takes it to the house for the Bengals.
29:04Knight with a great block.
29:05Angle defense is number 32.
29:11Stone is 28th consecutive start for Cincinnati.
29:14Just the ninth interception for the defense.
29:18First one in a little over three games.
29:20And it goes to the house.
29:21Well, and that was an important part today.
29:23They haven't had any takeaways.
29:24And they haven't been putting pressure on the quarterback.
29:27So far, they've been able to get pressure on Drake May.
29:29And they've gotten a key takeaway here in the first half.
29:32Terrell Jennings, who is a backup running back.
29:35He'll take it out near the 30-yard line.
29:37You see the confluence of defenders right there.
29:39And the special teams, Jules getting in there and others.
29:43With the stop, 21-yard return.
29:47Well, Drake May so far has been disrupted.
29:50As you see the pressure there, getting the arm hit.
29:52Lucky that wasn't intercepted.
29:53And then the ball that I pointed out earlier that he threw right between two receivers.
29:58Then he sails one down the middle to Hunter Henry.
30:01And Stone with the easy interception and conversion for the touchdown.
30:05Josh McDaniels has to get Drake May into some kind of rhythm right now.
30:09He just doesn't look himself.
30:11The first start of this game.
30:12Travion Henderson is the running back.
30:15West over the fullback.
30:16Henderson the call.
30:17And he slithers up the middle.
30:19And is brought down in the secondary by Hill.
30:21Good run of eight.
30:22Second down, 238-yard line.
30:24Well, and sometimes to settle down your quarterback, it's good to get that running game going.
30:28And that time just getting physical right up the middle.
30:30A handoff right up the gut and able to pick up eight yards.
30:33Henderson, fourth consecutive start.
30:38Two straight games.
30:39He's had a couple of rushing touchdowns.
30:41One 100-yard game on the ground so far.
30:45Second down to Henderson again.
30:48Got by Hill and then slowed up by TJ Slayton on that line.
30:53Very close, Mel, to a first.
30:57Wilson, the former Patriot who was stepping up for Cam Taylor Britt today, was taken into
31:01the locker room by the athletic training staff.
31:03He has a right hamstring injury.
31:05And they've already declared him out for the rest of this game.
31:07So the depth of this Bengals secondary being tested early.
31:09Boy, it sure is, Mel.
31:11And that is something that Zach Taylor clearly is concerned with.
31:14Here is another offensive lineman who is being looked at.
31:18Jared Wilson, their left guard, went down early in the game.
31:21Out right now, Brown taking his place.
31:24And that is Morgan Moses, the 34-year-old starting right tackle who has started every game.
31:31In fact, the same five offensive linemen, aside from one game, have started all season long.
31:38But we've got another injury.
31:39We'll take an injury timeout early in the second.
31:43Morgan Moses, the starting right tackle you see right there, headed to the locker room.
31:48Marcus Bryant, who played 11 games, but has not started, is in to take his place.
31:57First down and 10.
31:59Blocked by Campbell.
32:00Wobbly pass.
32:01Incomplete.
32:01Deflected again.
32:02That ball went in a perilous way downfield.
32:08Second down and 10 for May.
32:10Well, they're just trying to plant and throw.
32:13They're trying to get it to Hollins on a quick seam.
32:15You see how he plants, comes off the fake?
32:18Ball just gets too high as Hollins is on a dig.
32:24Nobody's around him.
32:25He's just a little off right now, Kevin.
32:27You know, we've talked all week about how healthy this New England team has been.
32:31They've lost two starting offensive linemen already.
32:34Second and 10.
32:35Underneath, Henderson tries to juke and can't get past Jalen Davis, who was just called off
32:43the practice squad a couple days ago.
32:45He's a veteran of five years.
32:47It's a gain of six.
32:48Carter comes over to assist.
32:50He's a rookie.
32:51They're out to the 47-yard line.
32:53As the Bengals are on top with their first defensive touchdown of the season.
33:00I know it's early, but this is a key third down for May.
33:03This is, this is, New England's got to keep their offense on the field.
33:07Got to try and get a conversion here.
33:10Cincinnati's defense is playing really well.
33:13Ramondre Stevenson is the back.
33:16Third down and four.
33:17Two starting linemen out.
33:19And May to the air.
33:20Another Campbell block.
33:21May on the move.
33:23And he's got the first down into Bengal territory and hit on the play by Battle.
33:29Gain of five.
33:29On third and four, they move the James.
33:31Well, this is a part of his game that gets overlooked a lot.
33:34He's got over 700 yards rushing coming into this game.
33:37And this time with the Bengals only rushing four, they drop back into zone.
33:42And they just are too deep to come up and rally in time to make the tackle.
33:48Chris Jenkins came and got him from the side.
33:50The ball gets pulled.
33:51The ball did get loose.
33:52The ball did get loose.
33:52Yes, it sure did.
33:53And it's right back to him.
33:53Stevenson remains the back.
33:57And it's a first and ten.
33:59Good time.
34:03Stevenson on the wing.
34:04One-on-one with Osa and cracked over there by defensive man Geno Stone.
34:09It is a gain of five and second down and five as the Patriots are facing their biggest deficit since week three with a look at Robert Kraft, his son, Jonathan.
34:21The owners, they said, they told us before the game, our first win as owners for the Patriots was in this building back in 94.
34:28I just can't, the details that he knew, he knew week one and week two that they had lost and he knew the score.
34:35And then he said, as the owners, our first win came in this stadium.
34:38Yeah, it was actually Riverfront Stadium.
34:39Or Riverfront Stadium here in Cincinnati.
34:41Second down five and Stevenson will take it.
34:44And finds room shy of the first, two to go, down to the 40, gain of three on that run by Ramondre Stevenson.
34:55Inactive for three straight, hadn't played since week eight, toe injury, but he's back in now and gives him a wonderful one-two punch in the backfield.
35:05Well, it is.
35:06And as this season progresses, you need, obviously, we've talked about the health of New England, the fact that they've already lost two offensive linemen, starting offensive linemen in this game already.
35:14But the more healthy bodies you can get back for the stretch run is important.
35:18Ramondre Stevenson in the back, third down and two.
35:22That's Diggs on the move.
35:25May to the air, and it's caught up the middle, Hunter Henry.
35:28First down, hit by Burks and others, climbs down inside the 30.
35:33He picks up 11 on third and two.
35:35Terrific play.
35:36Carter the stop.
35:37Hunter Henry comes up with a first down catch.
35:40Well, Henry's to the outside.
35:41He's going to be going across.
35:44As you see, Diggs, he gets double-teamed.
35:49So what ends up happening is Henry gets a step on it because of that bunch full Mason.
35:53He's able to get a lead.
35:54Good throw on that one.
35:56Kept him on the run.
35:57Got the first down.
35:59Henry, the tight end.
36:00Let him in receptions a year ago.
36:02Here we go.
36:03First and ten escaping traffic.
36:04Wide open, Henry.
36:06That's a Patriot touchdown.
36:0728-yard touchdown pass.
36:13Henry's fifth touchdown reception of the season.
36:20That's the answer the Patriots needed in getting Drake May into some kind of rhythm.
36:24They run a clear out with a post on the back side.
36:30Henry's just going to run a corner route.
36:37Out to his left.
36:38Boy, blown assignment though, right?
36:40My goodness.
36:41He was wide open.
36:42Four dollars will try the extra point.
36:47And he's a rookie from Miami.
36:52It's a three-point game in Cincinnati.
36:55Pick six thrown by the New England quarterback.
36:57And moments ago, a 28-yard touchdown pass to Hunter Henry.
37:03Drake May with his 21st touchdown pass of the season.
37:11Hunter Henry was the Mayanke Award winner at Arkansas.
37:15On a second-round pick by the Chargers.
37:17Second team he's played for the Patriots.
37:19A 28-yard touchdown pass to bring the Pats to within three.
37:24And really getting Drake May into a rhythm was the biggest thing I got out of that.
37:27Remember on the third and four that he used his feet to pick up the first down to keep that drive alive.
37:33And just looked a lot more comfortable that series.
37:39So the rookie, Boragallis, will be kicking off for New England.
37:45Brooks is back there.
37:47Charlie Jones back there for Cincinnati Bengals.
37:51He's having a hard time putting that ball in the team.
37:54We've said there's no win.
37:56There's not a lot of win, right?
37:58No.
37:58Now he's going to get someone to hold it for him, which is terrific.
38:03That's Bear Winger.
38:09And they've got everybody set.
38:139-2, first place New England, 3-7 Cincinnati.
38:17And yes, you can have 12 guys on the field if you haven't held it.
38:21Now he's got to run off the field.
38:22That's immediately where he goes.
38:24And then he's going to sneak inside.
38:26It may have hit the one that it got inside the pylon.
38:29It is into the end zone.
38:31And it'll be Joe Flacco again on the kickoff by Boragallis moments ago.
38:38And it was a good one.
38:39Watch this touchdown pass once again.
38:42So it's the post that's going to clear it out.
38:43But I want you to keep your eye on these two.
38:48They come up and one jumps the flat, one goes with the post route.
38:56So then all of a sudden nobody's there.
38:58So you have one guy controlling the flat, one guy taking the deep post.
39:02And you leave a giant corner open for an easy touchdown for Hunter Henry.
39:06Well, they were just out there discussing if the ball landed at the 1.
39:09It did.
39:10And went into the end zone.
39:11That's why they're beginning at the 20.
39:13And it's a first and 10.
39:14And Chase Brown wrapped up by Chase Onn and others on that defense.
39:18And Gibbons, Mel, no gain on the play.
39:20Well, Kev, we know the Patriots are already without starting left guard Jared Wilson,
39:23who has an ankle injury.
39:24Now starting right guard Morgan Moses was taken to the locker room by the athletic training staff.
39:28And with what the Patriots told me is an illness.
39:31He's now back out here in the bench area.
39:33I will keep an eye on him.
39:34Meanwhile, safety Brennan Schooler has an ankle injury.
39:37And he is questionable.
39:38And he's a big special teamer.
39:39And Moses, the starting right tackle, has started every game for New England.
39:44Second down and 10.
39:47Flacco through the air.
39:487 of 11.
39:51He's got Tyge Brooks as his running back.
39:55And outside they go.
39:56Yosivas.
39:57Did he get it?
39:58Great catch by Yosivas.
39:59He's shooting right in front of Gonzalez.
40:01What a grab.
40:03Stretching out.
40:04Good throw.
40:05Flacco connects.
40:06It's a gain of 11.
40:07And a first down on second and 10.
40:10Well, they bring a safety blitz that time.
40:12And he's coming free.
40:13So Flacco has to get rid of the ball.
40:16He lays it to the outside.
40:17Yosivas is able to get the ball in control.
40:24Yosivas using some of those track and field All-America credentials that he earned at Princeton with his athletic catch.
40:30Player down on the far side of the field.
40:33Another one.
40:34And we've had a bevy of them in this contest right there.
40:38It looks like it's Tonga.
40:41Kyrus Tonga is down.
40:43And we will step aside.
40:47Kyrus Tonga has been a free agent steal.
40:49They got him from Arizona.
40:50One of many additions to this team, which has basically turned over.
40:54Half the team is new.
40:56Defense in particular.
40:57They get the 11-yard pass to Yosivas.
41:00It's first and 10.
41:01Chase Brown, who's grabbed by Landry.
41:03You know, without Milton Williams, who is so good with the run defense,
41:07and this is the number one run defense in the NFL,
41:10they're going to have to find others who plug the gaps.
41:12Well, Williams is a big loss.
41:14They put him on IR, which means he's got to miss the next four games.
41:17So some other guys have to step up.
41:18And right now, right now, the Bengals have been running the football very effectively,
41:23especially between the tackles.
41:27Brown already has over five yards per carry.
41:31Second down and five for the quarterback, Joe Flacco.
41:34Super Bowl MVP with Baltimore.
41:37Brooks was the back.
41:38Flacco will go underneath.
41:39Oh, it's picked up.
41:41That's a pick six.
41:42Kiss him goodbye.
41:44Marcus Jones, our second pick six in this one.
41:49Going each way.
41:51And New England has captured the lead for the first time today.
41:56Well, this is back-to-back weeks with a pick six for Joe Flacco,
42:03and this one's all on him.
42:05He looks to push the ball up the field.
42:08Watch the hesitation when he comes off the flake.
42:10He comes off the fake.
42:12He wants to get to Tee Higgins on the sideline,
42:14and he actually starts his throwing motion that way.
42:16And then when he goes to throw the outlet to the flat,
42:20he doesn't take his eyes there to see it.
42:23He just goes to hit the check down.
42:26Easy pick six.
42:29Marcus Jones, who is the AFC Defensive Player of the Month in October,
42:33comes up with a huge play.

43:14And that was a gift to the New England defense.
43:17That was definitely a gift.
43:19And, you know, it's easy to fall into the trap of,
43:24now watch his eyes.
43:24He starts throwing motion to the corner,
43:26and then he just turns to the outside to get the outlet
43:28without checking it with his eyes first.
43:32And sometimes, as the ball's coming out of your hands,
43:37you wish he just had a string on it.
43:39Because, you know, if your eyes don't go there first,
43:41then you locate it after the ball's released.
43:44He just, there's nothing you can do.
43:45You feel helpless at that point.
43:47That is just the second takeaway by this great No. 8-ranked Patriot defense
43:54in the last four games.
43:57Flacco's 16th career pick six.
44:01And the ensuing kickoff.
44:04And this will be in the end zone,
44:06and Jones will leave it there,
44:07and Mel to a knee to the 35 and a touchback.
44:10Well, guys, I caught up with Joe Burrow on the bench before kickoff.
44:13He said the toe feels great,
44:14and certainly if it were up to him, he'd be out there today.
44:16But he understood the decision.
44:17He said it was a group decision,
44:18and he admitted his body is sore from practice this week.
44:22He's been focused on rest and recovery,
44:24lots of sleep and massage,
44:25trying to get ready to go for Thursday night against Baltimore.
44:28He said that's the plan, though it's not 100% set in stone,
44:30but he's beyond excited to get back out there.
44:32Couldn't believe he had to go through another injury and surgery this year,
44:35but said you just get through it,
44:37you do everything you can to bounce back,
44:38and he's still ahead of schedule in his recovery
44:40from that September 19th turp toe surgery.
44:42It is, yeah, and he's listening to our broadcast.
44:44No, he's not.
44:45Here's Chase Brown, first and 10, up the middle he goes,
44:48and he was hit by a couple on the play,
44:50including Durden and others with the stop.
44:53They also had a nice hit in there by Jalen Hawkins,
44:56gain of six, second down, four.
44:58Well, and he has, you know, dealt with Burrow,
45:01has dealt with a bunch of injuries.
45:03Obviously, the knee early in his career,
45:05and got comeback player of the year for that one,
45:08and then the wrist.
45:09And...
45:10And then, here's Chase Brown.
