00:00All right, we had a very good day, sir.
00:06I think we made a tremendous amount of progress,
00:08even from the last time I spoke to you,
00:09and I apologize for keeping you waiting,
00:11but there was more work to be done.
00:13You know, we began almost three weeks ago
00:14with a foundational document
00:16that we socialized and ran by both sides,
00:19and with input from both sides.
00:20And one of the things that happens
00:21when you've been involved in this now for 10 months
00:23is you get a pretty good sense
00:25of what the priorities and the red lines
00:27and the important issues are for both sides.
00:30I arrived here today with one goal,
00:31and the goal was to take, you know,
00:33what, you know, 28 points or 26 points,
00:36depending on which version,
00:37as it continued to evolve,
00:39and try to narrow the ones that were open items.
00:41And we have achieved that today
00:42in a very substantial way.
00:44Now, obviously, like any final agreement,
00:46it'll have to be agreed upon by the presidents,
00:48and there are a couple issues
00:50that we need to continue to work on.
00:52But I think the report today is that,
00:54I think today was worthwhile.
00:56It was very, very...
00:57It is probably the most productive day
01:00we have had on this issue,
01:01maybe in the entirety of our engagement,
01:04but certainly in a very long time.
01:06But work remains,
01:07and because this continues to be a working process,
01:12you know, I don't want to declare victory or finality here.
01:15There's still some work to be done.
01:17But we are much further ahead today at this time
01:19than we were when we began this morning
01:21and where we were a week ago for certain.
01:23How do you check out a little...
01:24This is a living, breathing document.
01:26Every day with input, it changes.
01:28There are some that involved equities
01:29or the role of the EU or of NATO or so forth,
01:33and those we kind of segregated out
01:34because we just met with the national security advisors
01:37for various European countries,
01:39and those are things we'll have to discuss with them
01:41because it involves them.
01:43So we sort of really focused on the ones
01:45that were bilateral in nature for the most part.
01:47So there are a couple...
01:48None of it insurmountable.
01:49I can tell you that the items that remain open
01:51are not insurmountable.
01:52We just need more time than what we have today.
01:55I honestly believe we'll get there.
01:57The Russian party...
01:58Well, obviously, the Russians get a vote here, right?
02:01So, I mean, look,
02:03we began from the early stage of this process
02:06with our understanding of the Russian position
02:08as had been communicated to us in numerous ways.
02:11At the State Department,
02:13we received numerous written non-papers
02:16and things of this nature.
02:17Also, verbally, things they've discussed over time
02:20and so forth.
02:21So it was...
02:22No matter what we came up with today,
02:24obviously, we now have to take what we come up with
02:26if we can reach that agreement
02:27with the Ukrainian side to the Russian side.
02:29That's another part of this equation.
02:31They have to agree to this in order for this to work.
02:34The deadline is we want to get this done
02:35as soon as possible.
02:36Obviously, we'd love it to be Thursday.
02:38We'd love to be...
02:39Ultimately, the important point today
02:41is that we have made substantial progress.
02:43We've really moved forward.
02:44So I feel very optimistic
02:45that we're going to get there
02:47in a very reasonable period of time very soon.
02:49You know, whether it's Thursday,
02:50whether it's Friday,
02:51whether it's Wednesday,
02:52whether it's Monday of the following week,
02:53we want it to be soon
02:54because people are going to...
02:55Between today and the time we deal with this,
02:57more people are going to die.
02:58More destruction is going to happen.
03:00Our goal is to end this war as soon as possible,
03:02but we need a little more time.
