In this short video, we explain the Overbalanced Wheel — a popular mechanism that looks like it can run forever using only gravity. This wheel uses sliding or corner-shaped weights that move in and out as the wheel rotates. Many people think it creates free energy, but in reality, it eventually stops due to friction and energy loss.

This model is commonly used in engineering and physics to demonstrate:

Torque imbalance

Center of mass shift

Why perpetual motion machines don’t work

Basic rotational dynamics

00:00This machine is called an overbalanced wheel.
00:03It looks like a wheel with small weights attached to it.
00:06What's the idea?
00:07The idea is very simple.
00:09When the wheel turns, the weights on.
00:12One side move outward, giving more force.
00:15On the other side, the weights move inward, giving less force.
00:19Because of this difference, the wheel looks like it can keep spinning on its own.
00:24But does it really work?
00:26Not really.
00:27It may spin for some time, but it cannot run forever.
00:31Friction and air resistance slowly stop it.
00:34So this is not a free energy or perpetual motion machine.
00:38What is it used for?
00:39To teach basic physics.
00:41To show how gravity and torque work.
00:44To explain why perpetual motion is impossible.
00:47If you enjoyed this simple explanation, please like the video and subscribe for more easy engineering concepts.
