00:00It was springtime on the island of Sodor. The sun was shining and the birds were singing.
00:11All the engines loved this time of the year. Emily thought the island had never looked more beautiful.
00:18But that night, there was a big and blustery storm. High winds swept across the island. Trees were blown down. A water tower fell over and the roof blew right off Farmer McColl's barn.
00:43Emily was very pleased to be safe and warm in her cosy shed. She could hear the wind outside.
01:00But the next morning, Emily could not believe her eyes. The storm had made a terrible mess.
01:09Farmer McColl was looking at the damaged barn. The baby calves will be cold at night. I must fix the roof right away.
01:21But Farmer McColl didn't have any timber for the roof. So he telephoned the Fat Controller.
01:27The Fat Controller came to see Emily.
01:34The storm blew the roof off Farmer McColl's barn, he said.
01:39You must take some timber so it can be fixed.
01:43Yes, sir, said Emily.
01:49Emily steamed over to the timber yards.
02:02She buffered up to the timber wagons and raced off to Farmer McColl's as fast as she could.
02:09But the storm had caused lots of damage to the lines. Workmen and lorries were clearing straws and rocks from the tracks.
02:22Emily wanted to go quickly, but she couldn't go at all.
02:26Bother, said Emily crossly.
02:30Bertie and the workmen were trying to move the hay bales.
02:33But moving it was taking a long time.
02:38Hurry up, Emily puffed impatiently.
02:41You must work harder.
02:43And she blew her whistle.
02:48Bertie was working as hard as he could.
02:51At last, he pulled the hay bales off the track.
02:59But Emily didn't say thank you to Bertie.
03:01All she said was,
03:03About time.
03:04Every time she came across workmen clearing the track, she blew her whistle and wheeched steam.
03:21This made the workmen cross.
03:24But Emily thought it made them work harder.
03:27Then Emily came across a fallen water tower.
03:33It had crashed onto her line.
03:35Oh no!
03:37She cried.
03:39Elizabeth was helping the workmen push the tower off the track.
03:44The tower was very heavy.
03:46Emily decided to boss Elizabeth too.
03:49Hurry up!
03:50She wished.
03:51And she blew her whistle as loud as she could.
03:56Not if you ask like that, sniffed Elizabeth crossly.
04:01I've got an urgent delivery, said Emily.
04:05But Elizabeth didn't listen.
04:08She simply went back to work.
04:13Emily blew her whistle again.
04:16But the more she blew her whistle, the slower Elizabeth seemed to go.
04:22Emily thought she would never get to Farmer McColls.
04:30The skies were darkening and night was on its way.
04:41Thomas arrived bringing more supplies.
04:44Hello!
04:45Thomas tooted.
04:47Emily complained about Elizabeth.
04:48She won't do a thing I tell her.
04:51That's because you're a big bossy boiler, laughed Thomas.
04:56You should try asking nicely for a change.
04:59Emily didn't like being called the bossy boiler.
05:02And she didn't want to ask nicely.
05:05But it would be night time soon.
05:07And the baby calf still didn't have a roof over their heads.
05:11So Emily took a deep breath.
05:16I'm sorry I was rude, but can you help me get this timber to Farmer McColls?
05:22Please, it's to help the baby calves.
05:26Elizabeth smiled.
05:27Why certainly, she puffed.
05:30I'll get your track cleared in no time.
05:33Emily was surprised.
05:36Thomas was right.
05:38Asking nicely was just like magic.
05:40Elizabeth pushed with all her puff.
05:48The tower was heavy.
05:51But with a mighty heave, the track was clear.
05:54Thank you, cried Emily.
05:58And she steamed on as fast as she could.
06:01It was nearly bedtime.
06:06Emily knew the baby calves would be getting cold.
06:11So whenever there was something on the track,
06:14she took a deep breath and said please and thank you.
06:24At last Emily arrived at Farmer McColls.
06:27And the timber was quickly unloaded.
06:36The barn was soon repaired and the baby calves snuggled down on a nice soft hay.
06:43Thank you, Emily, said Farmer McColl.
06:49The calves will be nice and warm now.
06:52Emily was pleased.
06:53She'd arrived on time.
06:56Asking nicely was all she'd had to do.
