Transcript
00:00I'm just kidding. Where I see love, she sees great.
00:05From a Kennergetic performance from Ryan Gosling to an emotional speech from Emma Stone and an almost Oscar streaker,
00:11here's everything that went down at the 2024 Oscars.
00:15The 96th Academy Awards had Jimmy Kimmel returning as host for the fourth time at the Dobie Theater in Los Angeles
00:21and kicked off its ceremony with a montage of the year's best films.
00:25Now feel.
00:30Kimmel did not hold back in his monologue, firing shots at everything from Madam Web's less-than-stellar reviews
00:37to addressing the big nominees for the night, including Bourbonheimer and Poor Things,
00:41while also throwing a little politics into the mix.
00:44Emma played an adult woman with the brain of a child,
00:47like the lady who gave the rebuttal to the State of the Union on Thursday night.
00:52Kimmel also addressed the WGA SAG-after strike of last summer and fighting for protections against AI.
00:58Thanks to this historic agreement, actors are now able to go back to worrying about being replaced by younger, more attractive people.
01:05And I think that's great.
01:07And writers, could AI have written Transformers Rise of the Beasts?
01:12Yes, the answer is yes.
01:14He closed out his monologue by bringing out and taking a moment to thank the people working tirelessly behind the scenes,
01:20rallying behind WGA and SAG.
01:22Let's have a very well-deserved round of applause for the people who work behind the scenes,
01:26the teamsters, the truck drivers, the lighting crews, sound cameras, gaffers, grips.
01:33That's right.
01:34All the people who refused to cross the picket lines, there they are.
01:40This year, for each of the acting categories, past winners were on deck to present the coveted awards
01:45and honored each nominee while welcoming the newest winner to their elite club in their respective categories.
01:51The first award of the night went to Davine Joy Randolph,
01:53who took home the win for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Holdovers.
01:57For so long, I've always wanted to be different.
02:03And now I realize I just need to be myself.
02:07The Oscars, of course, also included performances from each of the Best Original Song nominees,
02:11including a touching performance from Billie Eilish and Phineas,
02:15singing What Was I Made For from Barbie.
02:22The Osage tribal singers and dancers who performed Wajaji,
02:26a song for my people from Killers of the Flower Moon.
02:33John Batiste performing It Never Went Away from American Symphony.
02:37Becky G performing The Fire Inside from Flamin' Hot.
02:49And the most highly anticipated performance of the night,
02:52Ryan Gosling bringing the Kennergy with his show-stopping performance of I'm Just Ken from Barbie.
02:57I want to know, it's like to love, to be the real thing.
03:03But was it Knuff to bring home the win for Best Original Song?
03:07While the Oscar for that coveted award went to Billie Eilish and Phineas for What Was I Made For?
03:12This goes out to everyone who was affected by the movie and how incredible it is.
03:17Other highlights for the evening included Kimmel convincing John Cena to streak across the Oscar stage
03:22and deliver Best Costume Design in his birthday suit.
03:25I can't open the envelope without you.
03:28Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling, who took the stage together to tribute the stunt community
03:33and address the Barbenheimer rivalry head-on.
03:36Hello, Emily.
03:36Wow. Bit of a frosty hello, didn't you?
03:40Not at all. No, I'm just happy that we can finally put this Barbenheimer rivalry behind us.
03:47That's right.
03:48And Jimmy Kimmel reading his feedback as host so far.
03:51Has there ever been a worse host than Jimmy Kimmel at the Oscars?
03:55His opening was that of a less-than-average person trying too hard to be something which he is not and never can be.
04:01Other big wins of the night included one for Robert Downey Jr. for Best Supporting Actor for Oppenheimer.
04:07You know, what we do is meaningful and the stuff that we decide to make is important.
04:12And Christopher Nolan for Best Director for Oppenheimer.
04:15Movies are just a little bit over 100 years old.
04:18I mean, imagine being there 100 years into painting or theater.
04:21We don't know where this incredible journey is going from here.
04:24And for the top awards, Emma Stone took home the win for Best Actress for Poor Things.
04:29It's about a team that came together to make something greater than the sum of its parts.
04:34And that is the best part about making movies, is all of us together.
04:40And I am so deeply honored to share this with every cast member.
04:46Killian Murphy walked away this year's Best Actor winner for Oppenheimer.
04:49We made a film about the man who created the atomic bomb.
04:53And for better or for worse, we're all living in Oppenheimer's world.
04:56So I would really like to dedicate this to the peacemakers everywhere.
04:59And finally, Oppenheimer took home the top prize for Best Picture.
05:03I could deny it, but I have been dreaming about this moment for so long.
05:08But it seemed so unlikely that it would ever actually happen.
05:12And now I'm standing here and everything's kind of gone out of my head.
