00:00Tis the season for overindulgence, but before you grab that second piece of pie,
00:04Straight Arrow News set out to find what is on the plate of the doctor whose sole focus is your gut.
00:12The biggest advice that's given to people and I think is very valid is shopping,
00:17try to shop around the periphery of the grocery store.
00:20By shopping the periphery, Dr. Kushner means sticking to fresh meat, fresh fruit,
00:25the dairy aisle, and avoiding the processed food down the middle, including the liquor aisle.
00:29Remember, that beer, that glass of wine, that glass of champagne, that's not calorie-free.
00:36So, you know, watching the intake of liquid calories I think is very important
00:42and kind of where a lot of diets come to a screeching halt.
00:45A recent survey by Oshie Health suggests there's a direct link between holiday stress and your gut health.
00:50The report shows 76% of respondents experience stomach discomfort during the holidays.
00:5534% relate that to eating too much food and drinking too much alcohol.
01:00Kushner says to have a plan in place to keep yourself accountable.
01:03When we have leftovers from Thanksgiving, we're all guilty of it going in there and, you know,
01:08taking a little, just taking this tiny slice of pumpkin pie because you're a little bit hungry.
01:13So really doing what you can to minimize grazing.
01:16But ultimately, remember, Thanksgiving is just one day.
01:20And if you do indulge a bit, remember that tomorrow is a new day.
01:23One day does not write your destiny for the holiday season, for the year, for the rest of your life.
01:29Every day we wake up anew and you're able to make new choices
01:34and decide what the best thing is for your health going forward.
