'The Color Purple' star Danielle Brooks tells THR what she has learned about herself throughout her journey as an actress while at the NAACP Image Awards. Plus, she talks filming 'Minecraft' in New Zealand with Jason Momoa and Jack Black.
00:00So you've had a long awards run, so why was it important to be here tonight?
00:06Because it's my folks. That's why it's important to be here. It's my people.
00:11You know, I'm here representing Color Purple myself, and I know that I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for my people.
00:20And when I say that, I mean just the hard work and dedication that so many other black actors and actresses have put into this
00:27has inspired me to be where I'm at today.
00:30So just to be here, invited to the party, to be nominated, it's great.
00:37And you are always very open about how your faith has kept you grounded in this hard industry.
00:44So what exactly have you learned about yourself through this journey of you becoming an actress?
00:49That I am capable of way more than I thought, and that God will carry me through all of it.
00:55I think more than anything, like, you know, there's moments where you're like,
00:58I don't know what to say, I don't know what to wear, I don't know how to be.
01:01And then I pray, and I say, all right, I'm going to let God do what He do.
01:06So that's what I've been doing on this journey.
01:08And there have been a lot of movies and shows and music that we've been at the forefront of.
01:13So who is your favorite leading man or leading lady?
01:16Usher.
01:18Raymond.
01:18That is the one.
01:21I'm sorry to my husband, I left my ring on accident today.
01:26No, I'm just kidding.
01:26I really did leave my ring on accident.
01:28But I'm sure.
01:30Then why is it important for him to be getting his flowers today?
01:34Oh, man.
01:35He's that entertainer of the year.
01:37He's made every woman feel amazing.
01:39He's left us music to make babies to, to dance to in the club.
01:46But he's just, he works hard.
01:48You can tell that he's dedicated to the craft.
01:51He loves what he does.
01:53And it's inspiring.
01:54So, yeah, it makes total sense.
01:56And he killed it at the Super Bowl.
01:59I'm very excited for this concert.
02:01Are you going to get out of there?
02:03Are you going to make your way to the tour?
02:05You better believe I've already been to Las Vegas, and I will be back.
