Maya Hawke reveals how she channeled her character Anxiety for Disney Pixar's 'Inside Out 2.' Plus, the star dishes on her feelings about approaching the last season of 'Stranger Things.'
00:00What did you think when they brought you this role and told you that you're going to be voicing anxiety?
00:04Well, I auditioned for it first, and I wept in my audition.
00:09And then I saw the picture, and I was like, oh my god, that's me, I have to play this part.
00:15And then I got the call that I heard I was going to get it, and the top of my head just exploded off like I was a teapot.
00:23It's such an honor.
00:24Like, it's such a rare thing in one's life to get to be a part of something that's this good and this popular and is actually like a good thing to put out into the world.
00:35It's like a double rainbow, you know?
00:36And so I've just really gratitude and excitement and a bit of intimidation because of the icons like Amy and Louis that are here.
00:45How did you approach voicing anxiety, knowing the storyline, and how this movie will likely resonate with people?
00:50I just, the little voice that I hear in my own head, you know, that tells me to, you know, worry if my shoes are wrong or if my dress is wrong or if I'm going to be late to the airport or if I'm going to say something stupid.
01:03Whatever that voice is that's in my own head, I just tapped into that and let it come out my mouth instead of holding it in like I usually do.
01:10And speaking of emotions, what's the overwhelming emotion for you with the final season of Stranger Things?
01:14How are you feeling about it?
01:16Nostalgia.
01:17Which, when you see the movie, you'll get that joke.
01:21And are you going to steal anything from set, try and take anything?
01:24I'll do my best.
01:26Yeah, I mean, it's a hard set to steal from.
01:28Sets are getting harder and harder to steal from because there's more and more, like, needing to hold the stuff in case of reshoots.
01:34And then by the time the reshoots don't end up happening, you're already all the way across the country and you can't go back.
01:40So, I don't know.
01:41But I'll do my best.
01:42And with this movie, in Riley's head, joy is running the control board.
01:47For you, what emotion would you say is running the control board in your head?
01:50I feel like it's joy and anxiety as a team.
01:54Like, that they've become friends in my head and they're both running it.
01:57And, like, when one takes a nap, the other one takes the wheel.
02:00I saw you at the junket at Disneyland over the weekend.
02:02Did you get to ride any rides while you were there?
02:04I did.
02:05I rode the Incredicoaster and I rode the water ride one and I rode one other one I can't remember.
02:11Oh, the dropping elevator, the Tower of Terror, but it's not that anymore.
02:15The Guardians of the Galaxy Tower of Guardians.
02:19Now that you're officially a Disney princess, as we're going to say.
02:23I was just dressing up like one.
02:24I'm not one.
02:25We're saying you are.
02:27Princess Anxiety.
02:28Pixar princess.
02:29Exactly, a Pixar princess.
02:30But for you, what's your all-time favorite Disney movie or one that you really loved as a child?
02:34Um, I loved them all as a child.
02:37Maybe, like, my favorite one as a really young kid was Cinderella.
