00:03I appreciate it.
00:04Please.
00:05I appreciated the meeting with the president,
00:06and as he said, it was a productive meeting
00:08focused on a place of shared admiration and love,
00:11which is New York City,
00:12and the need to deliver affordability to New Yorkers,
00:15the 8.5 million people who call our city their home,
00:18who are struggling to afford life
00:20in the most expensive city in the United States of America.
00:22We spoke about rent.
00:24We spoke about groceries.
00:25We spoke about utilities.
00:26We spoke about the different ways
00:27in which people are being pushed out,
00:29and I appreciated the time with the president.
00:31I appreciated the conversation.
00:32I look forward to working together
00:34to deliver that affordability for New Yorkers.
00:36Thank you very much.
00:38Any questions, please?
00:40I mean, he's got views out there, but who knows?
00:43I mean, we're going to see what works,
00:46or he's going to change also.
00:47We all change.
00:48I change a lot.
00:49I change a lot.
00:50From when I first came to office,
00:52it's now quite a while ago.
00:54It's quite a while.
00:55My first term was great.
00:56We had the greatest economy
00:58in the history of our country.
00:59We're doing even better now.
01:00We're doing much better now
01:01than we did even the first term.
01:03And I can tell you,
01:04some of my views have changed.
01:05And we had discussions on some things.
01:08I'm not going to discuss what they were,
01:10but that I feel very confident
01:13that he can do a very good job.
01:14I think he's going to be,
01:16I think he is going to surprise
01:17some conservative people, actually,
01:19and some very liberal people.
01:21he won't surprise them,
01:22because they already like him.
01:24And Mr. Monthony?
01:25I want to clarify your answer
01:26to Steven Nelson.
01:28He asked about your comment
01:30calling the President a fascist.
01:32And your answer was,
01:34both President Trump and I have been clear
01:35about our positions and our views.
01:37Are you affirming that you think
01:39President Trump is a fascist?
01:41I've spoken about the-
01:42That's okay.
01:43You can just say yes.
01:44Okay.
01:45It's easier.
01:46It's easier than explaining it.
01:48I don't mind.
01:49There's a question for Mr.
01:50Thank you, Mr. President.
01:51Do you view the mayor-elect
01:52as the true leader of the Democrat Party?
01:54And do you think
01:55Leader Schumers and Leader Jeffries,
01:57you know, have to follow his lead?
01:58Well, look, I hope they have great leaders.
02:01This is a man that, right now,
02:02I think is focused on New York City.
02:04I really think he has a chance
02:06to do a great job.
02:07We're going to help him.
02:08But I really think he has a chance
02:10to do a great job.
02:11But I'll let you answer that.
02:12You consider yourself
02:13the leader of the Democrats.
02:14I think it's more appropriate for him.
02:16I consider myself
02:17the next mayor of New York City.
02:18And I keep my horizons firmly
02:20on New York City.
02:21And I appreciate the meeting
02:22with the President,
02:23which focused again
02:24on the five boroughs
02:25and whether New Yorkers
02:26could afford to live there.
02:27By the way,
02:28being the mayor of New York City
02:29is a big deal.
02:31Absolutely.
02:32I always said, you know,
02:33one of the things I would love
02:34to be someday
02:35as the mayor of New York City.
02:36Being the mayor of New York,
02:37and especially now,
02:38because I think you're really
02:40a turning point,
02:41one way or the other.
02:43It could go great,
02:45or it can go
02:46in a different direction.
02:47And I think you really have
02:48a chance to make it great.
02:50And I appreciate it.
02:51Mr. President,
02:52you say you love New York City.
02:53Mr. Mount Downey,
02:54does New York City
02:55love President Trump?
02:56New York City loves a future
02:57that is affordable.
02:58And I can tell you
02:59that there were more New Yorkers
03:00who voted for President Trump
03:01in the most recent presidential election
03:03because of that focus
03:04on cost of living.
03:05And I'm looking forward
03:06to working together
03:07to deliver on that
03:08affordability agenda.
03:09I got a lot of votes.
03:10I'll tell you,
03:11the press has eaten this thing up.
03:14You know,
03:15I've had a lot of meetings
03:16with the heads of major countries.
03:18Nobody cared.
03:19This meeting that you people have gone,
03:21you know, outside you have
03:22hundreds of people waiting.
03:23This is just a small little group.
03:25For some reason,
03:27the press has found this
03:29to be a very interesting meeting.
03:30The biggest people in the world,
03:32they come over from countries,
03:33nobody cares,
03:34but they did care about this meeting.
03:36There will be topics
03:37that we disagree on.
03:38I think we'll probably
03:39come to a conclusion
03:40and ultimately,
03:43he'll convince me
03:44or I'll convince him,
03:45you know,
03:46it's for the good of New York.
03:47Ultimately,
03:48it's for the good of New York.
03:49I don't care about affiliations
03:51or parties or anything else.
03:52I want to see
03:53if this city could be unbelievable,
03:55if he could be a spectacular success,
03:57I'd be very happy.
04:00Thank you.
