00:00I would like to congratulate the Italian government for this very important initiative in collaboration with the OECI.
00:10I think that we are all aware that violence against women is raising and we need to create awareness
00:18because it is not an issue which is concerning only women.
00:24It's all of us because it is an attempt to all security.
00:30It is life that has broken and before we end this interview a woman somewhere in the world will be killed only because she is a woman.
00:40So we need to change mindset, we need to educate women, boys and girls at the very early stage
00:50because most of the time the problem is a stereotype.
00:55And we all know, we know that when women are killed most of the time it's by someone she was trusted,
01:05someone who once said I love you.
01:08And so this is a problem which is really touching our intimate family, our society and our democracy.
01:19So at the European level we are taking a groundbreaking directive that has been adopted during the last mandate
01:28because femicide is most of the time the end of a process.
01:34The violence against women doesn't start with a femicide, it ends with a femicide.
01:40So we have to address economic dependencies, stereotypes, online violence, harassment and so on.
01:48So that's why we are really involved, committed and it is the first item, the first topic in our roadmap for women's rights
02:00that has been adopted last March and which will pave the way for our next strategy March 2026.
